I find myself drawing Mudwings more and more fish-like, so they end up accidentally looking like Seawing hybrids.

Also speedran a Bigshadow artfight reference. I think she’s probably my favorite of my alternate DoD, but maybe because I just haven’t worked on the others as much.

-I struggled to come up with wing/underbelling patterns. I used to go with spiral-y patterns like her father but I don’t know if that really suits her. I ended up doing some word association and was like “what makes big shadows in the sky? Clouds”, so its supposed to look like their are clouds blocking out some of her stars.

-I’ve HC’d for a while that Moonwatcher (and by extension Bigshadow in this AU) have a slight hint of Icewing ancestry in them through Secretkeeper. Not that much, but maybe just a little to explain their pale coloration and longer horns and spines. 

-To extend off the Sandwing idea, the Nightwing “breath weapon” is more of a superheated flash bang that goes off in their mouth used to blind foes, even from a decent distance. Their mouth stays really hot after and gives their bite a bit of extra spice, but they can’t really use it as the “damage weapon” on its own. They have really thick eyelids they close when they use it to not blind themselves. 

Also since I did this for Arroyo here’s her baby/toddler pictures, from September 2021 and July 2022 (just about a month before I started posting on here).

Was originally going to shade this but I added the eye sparkle and just did not want to continue.

Anyways I’m resurrecting the “alternate DoD au” for the umpteenth time. Also just kind of wanted to make an artfight reference for Arroyo as I like their design the most.

Anyways some notes about my sandwing design

-The little “cobra hoods” as well as sails and wing doo-dads are used for letting off heat and keeping cool. Not every single sandwing has them, but it’s not a rare trait.

-The square scales along their back and legs are thick and rubbery; meant to protect from potential stings. I also HC that sandwings are partially immune to their own venom. Fatality is rare, but bad stings can still make them pretty sick.

-I’m still jungling the HC that the Sandwings breathe lightning/a mix of fire and lightning instead of just fire. It’s just kind of strange that (so far) their is no tribe in WOF that breathes lightning/has lightning powers (I feel like WOF follows follows some of the bigger fantasy world building tropes, so it’s just kind of odd not to see that one). Also allusion to D&D blue dragon or whatever.

More scrapped bases. The first four are from April of last year after I finished the joy ang traces, the Nightwing is from early December 2023. I might return to doing something similar to the first few this summer. We’ll see

Tried out the graphic novel/Mike Holmes style with Wolf. Think that there’s some stuff off about it (the golden spines on her side would probably just be little black flecks, I don’t really like working with thicker lineart and the GN typically has heavier lineart), but it was fun to bust out in less than an hour.

I also did some studies including more of my doodads and such but the purist style ended up looking the most natural

Chinese giant salamander. Scan ended up really blown out for some reason so I had to adjust a lot of stuff in procreate. Also my Posca pen has died or is broken in some way so I had to add a lot of white highlights digitally

Fullbody reference of Wolf I figured I would make for Artfight. Extra notes below

-She’s one of my oldest WOF OCs from when my cousin first introduced me to the series around early 2015. She was originally a 50/50 Ice/Nightwing, but now I am considering changing her to have less Nightwing ancestry (like, 1/4 or 1/8).

-She had 90% regular Icewing powers. She can’t resist bright lights quite as well and has slightly better nightvision (and can sort of blend into darkness? At least better than a normal mostly white icewing).

-I originally had her as the daughter of Glacier’s sister and a Nightwing spy who rescued her from Scarlet’s arena. She’s still the daughter of an Icewing noble/high ranking military member and a hybrid they ran off with (IDK the context for this yet).

-Of course she was a part of a group of “next gen” dragonets. I’m still thinking she did that we she was younger, but has fucked off back into the woods since she became an adult.

-Makes candles or something and smells like pine needles. Where’s plad and a beanie in a modern AU.

-I’ve added some aspects of another slightly more recent (2018/19) OC named Acicular. Her design in below

I wanted to re-touch me Arctic design. The first pass wasn’t awful, just a little generic. I wanted to give him the same curly fur as I gave Whiteout and make him more blue overall instead of grey
