❝chris, can you not?❞ matt asked quietly, tilting his head downwards.

you laid asleep on his chest, your lips slightly parted, one of your hands lightly gripping the fabric of his hoodie beneath you.

about halfway through the film the triplets and you were watching, nick and chris—on one side of the couch—had begun to stuff their faces with popcorn, while cracking a few jokes at scenes. a small distance away on the opposite side, you had leaned backwards against matt’s legs, which were propped up on the cushions.

as matt laid his legs down fully for the pair of you to become more comfortable, he pulled you closer to him, your head resting against his chest.

your head still tilted towards the film, you tried to stay awake, yet the slow rise and fall of his inhales lulled you to sleep rather quickly.

❝shh,❞ nick said quietly to chris, catching on, reaching for the tv remote to lower the volume.

❝my bad,❞ chris whispered, propping his legs up on the living room table, quietly eating handfuls of popcorn.

matt looked down at you, his attention no longer on the low hum of the tv or plot of the film. he absentmindedly rubbed slow circles on your back, occasionally toying with loose strands of your hair.

noting how close you were, he analyzed every detail of your face, while simultaneously keeping his breaths as small as possible. he didn’t want you to wake—you looked so at ease like this, and it made matt’s heart flutter more and more by the minute. so, he stayed as still as possible, despite the numbness he was beginning to feel in his legs.

keeping his body as still as possible, he leaned his chin down, placing a soft kiss on your head. he leaned back into the sofa—still holding you in his arms—while shutting his eyes, too.
