Notes From My First-Ever Women’s Fest

For me, the sudden shift was how little I stood out.

There were women with body hair, everywhere. Pit hair, puss hair, nip hair, everything. Women whose nails were short, whose faces were bare, and whose stomachs rolled visibly and comfortably. Just like me! And there were so many lesbians and bisexual women. Quite possibly the majority of attendees were women-for-women.

In one moment that I’ll remember fondly, we were eating in a group of about 5 or 6 women. One of them said, “Maybe I should’ve gotten utensils, I’m just eating with my hands.” Another said “Well, that’s what fingers are for, right?” and every single person at that table synched into a gay hivemind and simultaneously went “Well…”

It was like my childhood dream of going to a lesbian summer camp had come true. I was finally somewhere where I didn’t sense that unspoken distance between myself and the heterosexual people around me

I love this website. It has profiles of over 100 female writers in translation from before 1700, with extracts from their work, relevent secondary sources, and where you can find their works in print or online.

theres a pretty major study going on rn about detransition that some of u might be interested in, it's called the dare study and it's designed to fill in the gaps from other studies on trans people that excluded detransitioners. u have to be 16 or older, live in canada or the us, and speak english. u get a chance to win $50 for participating and if they decide to follow up with you, you get $30. i just did it and the survey takes like 15 minutes. u can take it here

WHAT MUST BE DONE - A call for submissions of fiction, essays, poetry, art, and comics on women killing men.

Submissions are open from October 1st to December 31st, 2023.

The subject matter is open to interpretation. A lot of women think about this a lot, each in her own way. One intention for the anthology is a focus on women's reasons and inner worlds when they choose to kill, not on the violence itself. We are not looking for torture or violence meant to titillate - this is women doing what must be done for practicality's sake, a measured decision.

Art submissions need to be black and white. Page size is 6" x 9" with .75" margins.

Accepted submissions are not paid. However, all contributors will receive a free contributor's copy and books will be sold at cost + shipping. The purpose of these and other ugly truths projects is to work towards a current thriving and diverse body of creative works from this women's community. We work to continue the unbroken chain of feminist women's creative and intellectual legacy.

The theme of the second issue: First rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do. Soft deadline: winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. We'd love to see your writing! Essays, slice of life, fiction, poetry, musings, ramblings, reviews, forbidden questions: everything that fills lots of space in your thoughts and you don't feel like you can share anywhere else. I want to feature as many different women's voices from as many different places as possible. We have more in common than the patriarchy would like us to believe. We're in the same boat, and we have to work together. So if you have something to say, please say! Don't stay silent!
