Hi! I saw your comment about “new radfems” not reading radfem theory and I was wondering if you could list some resources or tell me where to find some? I’ve only recently started to read radfem blogs and I really want to get into it more, and not just read posts about it. Thank you so much, I appreciate your blog!
Hey! I'm really glad you want to do your research, it is heartwarming to know the newbies out there actually want to study the theory.
I think The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir is probably one of the most important and complete books in the path to understanding Radical Feminism. It is also super long and daunting, so while I do think it should be a read-in-progress for all of us, I think it's important to have more "beginner friendly" books, in order to avoid burn out. [link to pdf]
I've been into radical feminism since 2017 now, and I'm not a great reader, so for those of us who find it hard to focus for too long, I think Andrea Dworkin is also a good place to start. Her books are filled with rage – and important analysis. I find her language easier to keep up with, more approachable if you will. Woman Hating was my first [pdf]. You can find all of her other works [here] as well.
The book that made me want to really read more and get educated is honestly A Politically Incorrect Feminist: Creating a Movement with Bitches, Lunatics, Dykes, Prodigies, Warriors, and Wonder Women, by Phyllis Chesler. It's an autobiography, and gives some great insight on what it was like to be involved directly in the Second Wave, and also why sisterhood is powerful and needed, but also not easy to achieve. It gave me hope, and helped me to see radical feminism in a new refreshed light. You can get the audiobook for free as an [Audible trial].
[Radfem.org] has some other books handy as well
And [here] is a post with some other feminist books.
My current to-read list, as offered by a dear friend who's been involved with radical feminism for the past 10+ years, is as follows:
> The Second Sex - Simone de Beauvoir (a current read-in-progress for me)
> Lesbian Nation - Jill Johnston [borrow]
> For Lesbians Only: A Separatist Anthology - Sarah Lucia Hoagland, Julia Penelope [borrow]
> Sappho was a Right-on Woman: A Liberated View of Lesbianism [borrow]
> The Lesbian Revolution: Lesbian Feminism in the UK 1970-1990 - Sheila Jeffreys
> The Wanderground - Sally Miller Gearhart [borrow]
> Woman Hating - Andrea Dworkin
> Intercourse - Andrea Dworkin [pdf]
> SCUM Manifesto - Valerie Solanas [pdf]
> Lesbian origins - Susan Cavin [borrow]
> Sisterhood is Powerful - Robin Morgan [pdf]
> Like There's No Tomorrow - Carolyn Cage [pdf]
> The Lesbian Heresy: A Feminist Perspective on the Lesbian Sexual Revolution - Sheila Jeffrey [pdf]
> Gyn/Ecology - Mary Daly [pdf]
Okay so now I flooded you with reading material... What next? How do you even get started, how do you tackle this?
I think first of all it's really important to find community. There are discord servers out there for radical feminists and gender critical women, communities which are open to you, and were made for women just like you. Surround yourself with women, build yourself up with them. Don't just say your politics are woman centric, but actually make your life woman centric. And read up. Study. Trade notes, ask questions, question... Everything. Be critical. Not just of your past beliefs, but of this new information. Where is it coming from? Who wrote it? What do they gain from it? Who loses if they win?
Be aware that radical feminism is a political movement. It can be heavy. Unfortunately, we deal with the knowledge that the world is ugly, especially ugly towards women. Part of radical feminism is addressing borrow such as human trafficking, pedophilia, incest, and the likes. Have positive things to balance this out, take breaks, take your time. Work against overwhelming yourself. You can do this.
Apply the same kindness you'd offer other women to yourself, and treat yourself with respect. Reach out! To me, to others. We're here for you. We have space for you. We'll make time, we'll try our best. I just spent an hour finding these links for you. Not because you owe me anything, or vice versa. But because I care that you have a good experience of it. We are stronger together.
Anyway, take care. Good luck!

QUESTION: tumblr communities and decentralizing for lesbians
hello everyone!
with the announcement of tumblr communities and my recent discovery of an old lesbian e-classifieds ad site, i started thinking about ways to expand the outreach of this tumblr and ways to offer more in the way of lesbian connection.
also, since we've reached 250+ followers: my sincerest and deepest thanks to everyone who's sent asks. without your participation, this blog is purposeless.
please reblog for more exposure, or send to your lesbian friends. feel free to also add any additional commentary/suggestions in the replies.

Note
a few years ago i attended a lesbian pride party i found on meetup.com, which ultimately led to me living on women's land and meeting hundreds of lesbians!
how does one find radical women to interact with in real life. it really feels like any feminist or gay/bi women’s group is usually very very tra oriented. not asking you to doxx yourself but have you had any luck finding offline radfems?
No luck whatsoever. I tend to find socialising with new people difficult and unpleasant, so I am not often motivated to do it. I am just here talking to myself.

from The Radical Notion:
The Nitty-Gritty The collective have been in deep conversation over the last year about the future of THE RADICAL NOTION. Many questions about the form, scope, and purpose of this magazine and our collective remain open, but we have made one firm decision.
Issue 12, due in winter of 2024, will be our final print issue (do read on!).
All subscriptions will be closed so Issue 12 will be everyone’s last issue and final subscription charge.
The Clearance Sale
Our shop will close in January 2025. If you plan to complete your set of 12 TRN print issues, do it soon. While supplies last:
Bundles, themed or pick-n-mix, £30.
Single back issues are £10.
The Body Cannot Be Cancelled, poetry collection, now £5.
Add a copy of The Body Cannot Be Cancelled to any order for £3.
If you have been waiting to complete your set or get this breathtaking poetry collection, now is the time.
The Details
The costs of printing and shipping the magazine have risen to make publishing a large format, full-color, and sadly very niche magazine unsustainable. More, many in the group have experienced huge life changes in the last year, with several taking on new professional roles that require much more of their time. We must adapt.
And, we see the rightward, capital-colonialist, hostile energies intensifying across the globe and threatening women's social and economic gains, safety, and lives. This too requires feminist adaptation.  In 2025, a new collective will be developing strategies for getting TRN's content into more and more women's hands everywhere, and imagining ways to deepen solidarity across feminist organizations around the world. The counter-revolution is well connected and globalized, and the women's movement will need to meet this familiar but deepening challenge. We hope to assist in that connection and growth. We'll see, it's all in the dreaming and gathering arm of the spiral right now.
We are taking submissions for Issue 12 from July 31 to October 1. Please visit us at theradicalnotion.org/submissions for details.
The Future
We feel that these 12 issues lay rich ground from which a different kind of project can emerge. We plan to step back in 2025 and consider how we can continue to provide our readers and new audiences a more nimble experience and community while keeping the same quality of feminist deep-dives into issues and frameworks, the same dedication to the principles of a radical materialist feminism, and the camaraderie of sharing women’s resistance, creativity, mourning, and joy.
If we find a sustainable way forward and a crew of women who can continue to give this project the energy and focus it deserves, we will return to publishing on the web sometime in the fall or winter of 2025.
Meanwhile, when we have news on our progress and about how to reconnect with us, we will share that here. Our social media will remain, if more quietly. If you are on Threads or BlueSky, please come find us there @radicalnotionmag. We plan to build those accounts up over the year.
For the time and attention of your reading, the support with subscriptions and sharing our work you have given so far, and for the power and radiance of your articles, art, essays, poems, and stories the women of THE RADICAL NOTION will always feel deep gratitude and honor.
We are with you in feminist solidarity and rebellion.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your care, enthusiasm, support and contributions to this project. We hope you have felt as grounded and well-met in this work as we have by you. Thank you, sisters & readers.

From Lisa Vogel, Michfest
Greetings Sisters!
I am so happy to announce that We Can Live Like This…a Memoir of a Culture will be released August 5, 2024 through my newly-minted publishing project - BillieBooks.  I have arrived here due to the amazing and heartfelt support I received from our community for this project. You have lifted me up in every way. Each step of this process has been shaped by our community – from book and cover design, photographs, and editing, to encouragement, GoFundMe love, and web design.  And of course, I would not have this book to write but for the 40 years of powerful, gorgeous, challenging, outrageous, creative and committed life that we shared together in the Michigan woods.
Tumblr media
The book will be released in paperback, hardback, e-book and audiobook formats, which I narrated.  I will be heading out this summer and fall to do readings in our community and I look forward to seeing you!  I am excited to have pre-release books with me.

October 11 & 12, 3:00-5:00pm: Provincetown, MA  Women’s Week kick off, with ELVIRA KURT;  RSVP [email protected]
October 20, 2:00pm: Book Release Celebration, Freight & Salvage, Berkeley, CA
Bay Area mini Michigan love-fest with treasured friends and comrades Barbara Higbie with Mia Pixley and Michaelle Goerlitz, Bitch & Animal, Elvira Kurt, Judith Casselberry, Julie Wolf, Krissy Keefer, Marcelle Davies Lashley, Skip The Needle and Staceyann Chin.
Ticket go on sale at the Freight website July 5 at 3pm PDT.  Out of Bay Area friends – we do expect this to be live-streamed, so please join us wherever you are!
Visit my new website LisaAVogel.com for more up-to-date information on readings and happenings.  I want to encourage us, whenever possible, to support independent women-owned bookstores when purchasing books.  All of these stores provide online portals to order books in different formats just like the big behemoths. I’ve included their links on my website.  We’ve lost so much of our women’s cultural legacy, and what exists now is so important to support.  Let’s always buy from our sisters when we can!
With all my love, and my continuing belief that yes - We Can Live Like This.
Lisa

I created a discord server
It is for radfems and rad leaning feminists who are 16+
It is female only (verification details below)
It is primarily for feminists in the lower peninsula of Michigan USA. However, upper peninsula, lower Canada, and neighboring state feminists are welcome as well. There are channels for meetups, festivals, and woman’s lands
It has feminist channels, hobbies and media channels, age locked channels, voice channels, and a bunch of emojis I found on here
Open to all sexualities
Channels where you can suggest additional channels and roles
Bigotry will not be tolerated
Channels for lgb, disability, mental health, detransition, and more
Verification will be a selfie with a piece of paper with your discord username and a short voice call. This will be done purely between you and me and nobody else will have access
Message me off anon for the link
@nansheonearth can you boost this for Michigan radfems please?

im in Ketchikan AK for the next few months!
I know I say this all the time but seriously if you’re a radfem you need to gather with other radical women. It’s vital for you and them. Maybe you can only make it to one gathering, a festival, maybe start a meetup. Maybe it’ll only be 3 of you there, but it’s something and it really changes everything.
You’re not alone and you don’t have to be. Connect. Gather.
