No laughing matter: Police issue warning to lurking clowns following online threats

Australian police have fired back at the growing number of clowns lurking Australian streets and parks.

What was once considered a staple of children’s birthday parties, now is more suited to a terrifying horror movie scene.

The so-called "clown-purge" has hit Australian streets and it is just as disturbing as the title suggests.

The movement appears to be a copycat of recent incidents reported in the US.

It sees people dressed in terrifying clown outfits, parading the streets and whispering at people through bushes.

Since it launched earlier this week, The Australian Clown Purge Facebook page now has more than 30,000 likes, as clowns from across the country post terrifying images and videos detailing their disturbing movements.

“Sydney we are here. See you tonight,” The Clowns are coming posted on Facebook.

“There’s more than one, remember that.”

A post shared on the Australian Clown Purge Facebook on Thursday threatened that people “underestimated” clowns.

The post warned clowns would be “touring Australia”.

“Our first sights will most likely be in NSW! (sic) Then Victoria then South Australia etc!

“Just let all your friends know! Because THIS IS NOT A JOKE (sic)”

But police have hit back, declaring the threats and unlawful actions of those involved won't be tolerated.

“Victoria Police are aware of people who are parading in the public wearing clown masks,” they stated.

"Any intimidating and threatening as well as anti-social behaviours will not be tolerated and will be investigated by Police.”

Reports that the initial US clown sightings were actually promotional tools for Stephen King's upcoming movie 'It' were quickly put to rest by the famous author.

In August, several residents at an apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina, reported seeing clowns lurking in nearby woods.

A police deputy spoke to a woman who claimed her son had seen clowns in the woods, whispering and making noises, and when she went over to check, she saw several clowns flashing green laser lights in the woods before they ran off, an incident report said.

Another resident told police that she’d been walking home to her apartment hours before, at 2.30am (local time), and saw a “large-figured clown with a blinking nose, standing under a post light near the garbage dumpster area,” according to the incident report.

Several children also claimed that clowns had approached them behind one of the apartment buildings and tried to lure them into the woods “by displaying large amounts of money.”

The Victorian police have advised anyone to contact their local police station if they have any concerns.

​'Pizza-copter': Domino's new 'drone-delivery' method takes fast-food to the skies

It’s a bird... it’s a plane... it’s a pizza drone!

Pizza will soon be raining from the skies over Australia with the release of Domino’s new commercial drone delivery service.

The new system is a world first, allowing Dominos to offer the fastest fast-food on earth.

The long-awaited pizza drone is being successfully trialled in Victoria with plans to expand across the country.

The pizza chopper flies 60 metres in the air to avoid power lines and tops speeds of 30kph.

Once the destination has been reached, a cable lowers the pizza down to the ground and releases the product before the drone returns to the restaurant.

Back yard deliveries will start in Auckland in October, then expand to six more countries including Australia.

Dominos CEO Don Meij said there were exciting times ahead for his business.

“It’s really cool, it’s really interesting, you're going to get a faster delivery we think,” he told 7 News. “I mean, it’s the future and it’s already here.” The pizza chain has cornered the market by combining technology and food. It’s also trialling a self-driving delivery robot in addition to its drones.

Con Stavros, Associate Professor of Economics at RMIT University, said the investment was sure to pay off for Dominos.

“This is just another step forward for them,” he said.

“They're really becoming a tech company as much as a pizza company these days which is really exciting.” The new service will slice delivery times, bypass traffic and reach isolated customers.

The company is also working on ways to expand delivery distances and ensure the pizza arrives piping hot.

Slender Man stabbings: Teen denies trying to kill classmate to please bogeyman

A girl who attempted to stab to death her 12-year-old classmate in order to please fictional horror character Slender Man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Morgan Geyser, now 14, and her friend Anissa Weier reportedly lured their victim Payton Leutner into the woods in May 2014, after inviting her to a sleepover in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

It was there the duo allegedly stabbed Leutner 19 times before fleeing, leaving her along and bleeding in the woods.

Leutner managed to crawl to a road where she was found by a passing cyclist.

The girls told police they wanted to appease Slender Man, a bogeyman that was created online as an internet meme in 2009.

They believed the tall faceless figure with unnaturally long limbs would harm their families if they didn’t kill their friend.

Geyser appeared in court on Friday after her appeal to be sentenced in a juvenile court was denied.

Her lawyers have entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease, with Weier’s lawyers not commenting on whether their client will be doing the same.

Geyser was diagnosed with early-onset schizophrenia after the incident in 2014 and experts have testified that she continues to have relationships with imaginary characters.

Both girls are charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and if convicted, they face up to 45 years in prison.

If Geyser is found to be mentally unstable, she could be confined to a mental hospital.

‘Like a ninja’: Masked gunman opens fire on police killing three in Louisiana

Three police officers have been shot dead and several others wounded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as the US remained on edge in the wake of police shootings of black men and the killings of five Dallas officers.

The suspect killed is believed to be the only gunman and the incident has become a no active shooter situation, according to the state police superintendent.

The three wounded officers are being treated in hospital: one officer is fighting for his life in critical condition, two others were listed as in a stable condition.
