I still don't know! They are sophonts, but they are the hardest to figure out. Their intelligence is very different from the other sophonts, as they are the least social. But I have yet to find the balance I'm happy with.

How does slomen clothes work if that makes sense?? Like how do slomen clothes normally look?

Hi! Sorry for the very late reply, but frankly, my inbox is so super full I wasn't sure how to reply back then.

It greatly depends. Some cultures only wear decorative clothing or jewelry, especially those that don't rely on a very complicated social wear system that large 'nations' can cause.

In the warmer regions of the continent, clothes are much more about categorizing people and expressing one's connections and/or hiding some parts of the body. Bigger families have their own cultural quirks that show in their attire, but they will follow the rules of the culture around them. Like not going outside alone, undressed.

Family clothing, which is basically any self-expression and rank showcase, is also more decorative on average. A fixture of Ciwa is many types of hanging threats and fabrics arranged into a pattern. It can be seen in outfits all over the place, with variations on the trend and of course many other trends on top.

The clothing in Ciwa is still generally 2 pieces (not counting underwear and pieces made of multiple parts)- chest area, bottom area, connecting at the middle arm, which is often used to hold the bottom piece instead of a belt. In addition to that, there are many types of trinkets to wrap around or attach to feathers and hats, some only available to specific genders and classes of people. Like some matriarchs in Ciwa wearing leather balloon hats.

Clothing for non-familiar groups like religion, some occupations, and in ways 'noble' class goes by their own rules.

Monks don't get to use crazy patterns and colors as they must still be recognizable as priests (set colors and patterns). The different houses of monks will have differences, but their identity must be maintained, and some rules cannot be broken, not in front of a higher up. For instance, they are forbidden from wearing any hats pointing upwards as it's considered feminine. Just like with families, you can mostly tell different houses apart by their style. Different hat preferences and slight differences in their color palette from using other dye sources and such.

Not gonna get deep into noble wear. Let's just say. Rules are not so consistent among classes. A lonely, random person walking alone outside with no or very little clothing will be seen as a weirdo, an outcast, while a noble with only jewelry in public is completely acceptable. You could look at it like this - if a sloman is naked at home, there's nothing at all strange about it, as it doesn't show any bad parts anyway (they are in the mouth). So if someone with grand power walks around a street their family "owns", that's normal. If someone with no connections and no ownership walks around with little property, they just show they don't have anyone, that they might have failed in some way.

This is again a little different when with a group. Little to no slomen walk around completely alone. Depending on class (again), someone undressed walking among a group may also be a lower-end servant or someone seeking shelter in a group before they can move on.

Or again, they can be someone well off, but the group creates a sense of familiarity/home. This is more seen in smaller settlements where people are closer to each other. Villages and small towns where you don't expect to run into high-class peeps.

My more solid drawings of clothing are a bit outdated, so I still have to lock in to make a good show of cultural wear. But hope this helps.

would you be able to tell a little about the people who the missionary killed to get their extra demons? I'm particularly curious about the naïve

(This post is about this character, the "faceless" land uniima.)

I will be a little vague here

The 'city of demons' is more of a collection of smaller cultures connected by trade and religious ideas. And this "city" has three main sections, with a fourth being in the process of development at the time the faceless started their journey. So there were 4 ruler-like figures.

These are the "Titans" that have the ultimate decision-making power in the region. All except the last being architects (a name for a land uniima who has matured into a third stage after adulthood) with the last having their post-adulthood architect puberty going on but still being smaller than the rest.

The maturing one, "the foreseen Djeete" would now experience emotional imbalance and eventually a strong desire for personal independence away from adult land uniima. But that's not how one rules in the city of demons. Djeete would start ruling in their 50s but would need a much stronger hand to gain the respect the menacing, large Titans would have without issue. Because of this, their caretakers and parents would help them push towards the change into an architect, but mostly, it was genes.

Djeete, not being the brightest, just most aggressive, would not realize being tolerant to their kin makes their rule easier than it is for the architect Titans, who would often make rules based on little imput from their citizens as they would need much more alone time for emotional stability.

Overall, much of the common folk would be ruled more by the religion in their everyday life, while their reproductive right, their property, and their rank would be held by the people who spent most of their time absent but seeing it as their own right to their legacy. Of course, except for the younger naive one who would terrorize their section on purpose to show greater power.

Quite a few people would grow tired of the regime, but not enough would find it unusual, unnatural, or wrong. Most had never experienced cultures outside the city, since the traveler messenger culture had never taken hold here, and outsiders tend to keep their distance from the Titans' property.

But things change.

I have a question about Bio man, How does he feel about Neal and his status as a professor? This question has been in my mind for weeks now because I would assume that he gets a bit jealous at times? maybe? I think that because Bio man wants to be this epic science guy but he's just seen as "the guy who picks at carcasses", while Neal is PROFESSOR NEAL and actually teaches HIGH CLASS FAMILY PEOPLES and all. So idk if I were Bio man I would be real jealous at times but idk thats why I'm asking, does he or do I look silly rn

Bio man is, in ways, definitely jealous. To him, the world is unfair, difficult to navigate, and he thinks he has what it takes to be held higher. But he doesn't. Not because he's incompetent, but because he isn't lucky.

Neal swims in luck. And his presence is useful. He's a spectacle in ability and other aspects. He's a great people pleaser, always keeping unwanted emotions out of work and gatherings. Knowing all the rules and following them strictly.

Not all people in Neal's position are as socially capable, ready for every signal, but they adapt. They make themselves useful, sing the praises, and don't step into what they can't manage. Not something bio man is capable of.

And it's not one-sided. If Neal weren't so lucky, he would not be there. But now he's stuck in a position that is far from what he would dream of as a child. But he's good at the one thing; what choice does he have? Leave and become a humble working group man in a regular sloman household, doing regular sloman work and eating sloman food?

I should actually go more into Ciwan culture, so I don't always sound so vague.

Forgot to say it earlier, but the design of The Ignorant is inspired by the work of @quinnred, and the design of The Vile is inspired by the art style of @equietum. (follow both if you somehow haven't yet!!)

I wanted to have fun with ideas and styles in some way, since these creatures are born of separate people's art in the universe as well. The names here aren't related to the human artists in any way, only to the story. They are the nicknames to connect them to the original land uniima owners and what the faceless thought of them.

They are inspired in very different ways, and I did intend to have at least 3 people of inspiration, but my vision for the creatures got too narrow to fit anyone specific. So the Naive is much more of a mix of things. But it's okay, that also makes sense in-universe!

I could talk about this for hours. But I must spare you.

They are from the "city of demons" as strangers would call it. It's a culture that believes in the existence of demons/personal deities. This is theirs.

This religion says each person must have a guardian to follow them on their journey and this guardian must be treated well for the soul of the "author" to be well.

They are inherently tied to the soul and believed to reflect all it's basal qualities and desires that shape the way they look and act.

A person will gain a base for their demon from their parent or other family that is knowledgeable of the process and has the artistic ability to depict them. It's very important that a citizen of the culture is skilled in a visual art so that they can 'communicate' with their soul. Design and show their demon and whatnot. It's a common way to choose partners here as well.

But then, unlike in base Ueema religion, the soul/attachment/demon isn't a blessing when gained. It's a responsibility for life. And if one is to gain a different demon, they are sent to spiral into insanity. Being harassed by the demons who don't belong. How do you get more than one? Well, by death. A murderer must deal with the spiteful demons of their victims.

There are a few other ways to multiply the number, but those are very specific and not relevant to the Faceless character.

I'm sure I will talk more about this culture and other characters some other time, so I won't drag it out.

for no particular reason *hiding ArtFight shaped object behind my back*, what is the color of vegetation on uniima’s planet? How deep have you delved into botany in general?

Hiii!! Oh the suspicious object behind your back.

So the uniima continent where both uniima of the species reside (all my sophonts share the same planet, they got no space travel or such and it's not a normal planet indeed) has weird plants. It's what makes my progress on the biosphere so slow.

There is a higher variety of plants and plant-like organisms but most abundant and those reaching biggest sizes are green-violet.

Areas touching sunlight directly are green where underbush and deeper forest tend to be purple. They are very light maximalist.

(This is not the same as other continents two. Other sophonts live around different plant types and colors. Yes, some are less oxygen efficient but the overall levels are very high so that's not really an issue.)

The simplest way to do it (before I lift my ass and do a full vision) is to draw the leaflets as green and the stem as purple. With big trees this is little complicated because I suspect the violet part of a big ol tree is around the trunk, not the hard part itself.

So yea. Sorry about that.

Btw sky Uniima are very arboreal and mostly keeping to the giant equator forests. More grounded communities get to see land Uniima a lot more since those guys just spread all over the ground.
