i rlly dont like the habit that some reviewers have of when giving a critical/negative review of a book, film, music, etc, they have to 'soften' the review or console the audience that if you enjoy it thats okay thats totally okay more power to you uwu not only is the sentiment gratingly obvious to me and does not need to be mentioned but it shows a lack of conviction and dampens the points you are trying to make; especially if the media being discussed contains sexist/racist tropes but 'more power to you if you liked this book it's okay to like it'. have some fucking faith in your opinions and your takes and commit to your beliefs!!!!

I have moved!
I have recently discovered Letterboxd, and found it to be a way more convenient way to log my movies, so I have transferred all my old reviews there, and have started writing new ones. I will probably continue posing book reviews here, but If you are interested in keeping up with me for movie related reasons here is the link: cornflakesout’s profile • Letterboxd

In October I watched “Grumpy Old Men” (1993) Comedy/Romance
The story of two grumpy old nehbors who have been fighting each other for decades and what happens when a hot new lady moves in across the street.
On my "my fellow americans (best movie ever)" dvd there was a "if you liked this movie then check out these:" section and this was in it. Grumpy Old Men is pretty similar to "My fellow americans" tone wise. They have a very similar duo of main characters and a very similar sense of humor. I liked the charecters, i thought the drama was great and the jokes were funny. I also liked the winter setting. Some of the stuff in this movie genuinely caught me off guard. It had a sense of... mortality that My Fellow Americans didn't.

In October I watched “Come live with me” (1941) Romance
So there's this lady who is going to get deported to nazi controlled Austria unless she gets hitched, so she marries a struggling writer she just met. She won't fall in love with him for real thoh... or will she?
This was alright. I didn't really buy their romance, but everything else was good. I thought the characters were ok, and the drama was entertaining. it was mostly just ok.

In October I saw “The Wild Robot” (2024) Sci-Fi/Adventure
I liked this. the visuals are gorgeous, the colors are beautiful, and the animation is amazing. The rest of it however.... eh. The characters were ok, the story was ok, the music was ok, the jokes didn't land with me, and I didn't connect with the story emotionally. there were some parts at the beginning where the tone was repeatedly broken with humor that i didn't really like. In general throh i think i was just the wrong age to really enjoy this, as I'm nether a child nor a mother. Objectively this is a pretty good movie, i just didn't really connect with it.

In October I watched “Dave” (1993) Comedy/Romance
Dave happens to look almost exactly like the current president. After being asked to impersonate him during a brief public appearance by the government, Dave's job is... extended when the president falls into a coma.
I liked this. the acting was good, the story was good, the characters were compelling, the drama was engaging. I had a weird sense of Deja Vu while i was watching this, i kept feeling like i had seen this before, or at least parts of it, but i don't think i have. odd.

In October I watched “Adventure in Washington” (1941) Drama
The story of a lower class teen boy who gets a job as a Washington Page boy due to his uncle's connections. He has reservations about the job at first but makes new friends and soon comes to appreciate it.
It took me a while to find this movie but i really liked it. I thought the drama was interesting, the characters were enjoyable and the kids were cute. There were also a fair number of patriotic speeches and a satisfying ending. It's worth checking out.

In October I watched “The Net” (1995) Thriller
I picked this up because it looked absurd and it kinda was. It has that dumb 1990's fascination with computers and vast overestimation of their power. It also has that trope of a girl who is super into computers but also super hot. Despite the absurdity of the story, it was decently exiting and i did enjoy it, but i don't have any interest in seeing it again.
good 6/10
