Guess who just finished their annual Young Justice rewatch

I’m coming out as an AVID zetaflash shipper, and I’m feeling really robbed of them interacting in season two when Ed was all angry and broody

I actually miss Young Justice so bad, I did not go through like fifteen separate cancellations for this

Also I feel like we as a community do not appreciate the fact that Ed is canonically gay enough

Okay, my imagination has officially run away with me… so, after this post, I really had the urge to watch Hercules and now I actually have that Ed/Bart Hercules AU (that nobody asked for) forming in my head…

One where Bart is Hercules with super speed and Ed is Meg - already jaded by life and under the control of Lex as hades - who owns his soul and his powers. the league are the gods of Olympus and the Light fills the ranks of the underworld, Jay and Joan are the couple who raise Bart, the muses are made up of the OG team girlies - M’gann, Zatanna, Raquel and Artemis but Cassie is also one as well… then I think Wally is Phil… and Jaime would fit into the Pegasus role… and that’s all I got as of yet for the roles…

With whatever deal Ed originally makes to Lex - I haven’t figured out if it’s a similar saving a past love situation, like Meg, or maybe something involving his dad or even just trying to help a stranger who he thought was in need - he loses his powers and must do Luthor's bidding, which is what gets him stuck in the bind with whoever he’s meeting for the businessman, that Bart determines as an ‘I need to save this person’ situation. Lex then gives him the power back so Ed can get close to Bart and figure out his weakness. The power is then stripped away from Ed in front of Bart in order to convince him to sign away his own powers - which he does. Then, now being free, they’re finally fully back for the big Meg saves Hercules moment… this version would consist of Bart, having signed away his speed, not being fast enough to notice the big heavy object that’s about to squash him, and Ed, with his powers back, teleporting in to push Bart out of the way and ultimately taking the fatal hit which then breaks lex’s deal and gives Bart his powers back. Bart saves the league but isn’t fast enough to get back to Ed before he succumbs to his injuries… leading into the finale that I haven’t figured out yet…

and that’s all I got.

I can’t remember if I’ve ever acknowledged this before but the irony just popped into my head of Ed - who was once so adamant that he wanted a meta gene “cure” - being in a relationship* with the one person who actually did secretly cure someone of their meta powers… the thought amused me.

I love this list anon! I’ve just finished a full rewatch of the show (thanks to YJ finally being added to Netflix in the uk) so I definitely have Ed/bart on the brain at the minute and I really enjoyed giving these a listen… particularly Accidentally in Love which is actually So PERFECT for them - I’ll never hear it the same way again… step aside Shrek & Fiona, this is Ed & Bart’s song now!!

Also, this has now got me so curious as to who would be who in an Ed/Bart Hercules AU…? 🤔

you know that what if show marvel has? i am the only one who wants a what if show but with dc characters, espically one spefic to young justice. There are some many possiblities with with a what if young justice alone. what if instead of virgil being the only one who joins the team at the end of season 2 he's the only runaway who doesn't? what if tye got the beatle instead of jaime? What if bart died instead of wally? endless possibitles

I find the contemplation of what if scenarios so fascinating to think about - it's the whole reason I named this blog as I did - because I’m fully aware that none of the things I say on here will ever canonically happen but it’s still fun to think about what if they did… Like you said anon, endless possibilities! I love this idea of yours - a yj specific what if series would be so cool to see - two that always pop into my mind whenever I watch Illusions of Control are…

What if it was the cotton candy that had been poisoned and Ed was the only one left standing…?

What if Bart and Ed never made it out of that boom tube during the fight against onslaught…?

Or a cheeky third one… what if the higher ups had allowed Bart and Ed’s relationship to be canon onscreen the way we know it’s supposed to be!?! Oh, the possibilities of what could have been!! 😩 Nope, nope - we’re not going down this rabbit hole again… I do apologise if you’re not interested in Bart/Ed ramblings - they own my soul and usually find a way of being brought into the conversation… :)

ANYWAY, back to your what ifs… I am very much intrigued by the one where Tye gets the scarab instead of Jaime… that would be such an interesting scenario to explore…

Mainly because with Jaime, he was always able to be the voice of reason and ensure scarabs violent suggestions were never acted upon… however, with Tye, I don’t think that would be as definite a case… unlike Jaime, who has been surrounded by a loving, supportive family he’s whole life, Tye has had to endure living within a very toxic and abusive home environment, left feeling powerless and under constant threat because of Maurice’s dominance. That difference in experience creates a very different perspective when it comes to whether one should or should not do something in the name of defence… not to say Tye would go full on villain mode if he possessed the power of the scarab, but put him in front of Maurice with all that power and I don’t think he’d be as dismissive of scarabs suggestion of “defence” as Jaime was when he went up against the jerk.

Ngl… I’m a little bit obsessed with this idea now - thank you so much for sharing anon!

Hello fellow followers, and anyone else who might see this, I hope you’re well… I know I’ve been pretty absent on this blog recently but I wanted to ask a favour… I’ve been doing a lot of doodling lately - both original and for a particular fandom I’m currently focused on (my insta: @/burtonsdoodles - if you’re curious) - and I’m working on getting my Etsy store - longlivcuriosity - back up and running with these doodle based products - which I am much more enthusiastic about creating than what I was previously putting on there… I’ve decided to start a brand new tumblr blog to accompany it and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in giving it a follow? Or spreading the word…

As of right now it’s not got much on it but I intend to post products, artworks, process vids, polls if I’m too indecisive to pick the best direction to go with a piece… honestly, it’s gonna be a see what happens kind of deal since I haven’t really figured everything out yet and I’m terrible at planning ahead… so who knows what this blog will become but if anyone does decide to give it a follow I would be SO appreciative… and since I’m posting this on my yj blog, I’ll add that there might be some yj doodles that will be going on the Etsy at some point further down the line — after I’ve dealt with the current stuff…

Wait and see… anything is possible when it comes to CURIOSOTY…

I would really like to see Bart interact more with the Reach, especially a person who is just a simple civilian. I realized that the members of the Reach people we see in the show always have specific roles or authority and were implied in the plan of conquering earth. [1/3] Sorry I had to cut this question in parts because I have a word limitation on the ask box on tumblr. I realised this part is already pretty self-contained, so sorry again for my wall of text.

That’s a really interesting concept which I’ve never actually thought about at all - but you’re right, surely there must be reach out there that are, or at least, are capable of being good - the same as any other character/sentient being… attitudes and opinions are heavily influenced by environment so if you took a reach who isn’t yet die-hard for the reach cause and taught them the ways of earth while showing them kindness and respect - would that open their mind to appreciating the life of others instead of immediately deeming them as lesser because that’s what they were taught to believe? That would be so fascinating to see explored - especially with this species we know is capable of enslaving humanity and causing the apocalypse of Bart’s timeline whilst also having been the focal antagonist of s2. With that, we’d have to evolve our own associations that the reach as a collective are straight-up villainous, as no one is everyone. Then it would be so compelling to watch how the heroes would adjust/interact with this reach individual and who would be for or against this situation. 

It would be so intriguing to see how Bart would deal with this - I can see him being the one most adamantly against it and while others may eventually warm to things after seeing the reach change for the positive - I can see Bart remaining firm in his beliefs… it would take A LOT to alter that in any way. Unlike anyone else Bart knows precisely what the reach are capable of - he has lived through it, and lost everything because of it - he has enough trauma stocked up related to the reach for him to understandably never be able to dissociate THE REACH from pain, suffering and evil… 

Bart and the Reach is something we have to see again in some way or another… right now I feel like they're the only way we will ever explicitly see Bart's darkness break through his typical chipperness/enthusiasm… I wanna see more of the bart who looked like he was having an internal freak out at the prospect of the reach having returned in s3… I just think it would be really cool to see explored.

Anyway… thank you for your message anon* - I had never considered how interesting a bart and the reach reunion could be but now I'm obsessed and wanna see it happen… also, I'm suddenly very curious and would actually love to learn more about the reach now… like could there, in fact, be good ones out there or are they genuinely just an evil race - surely not, but these are the questions…

Hello, I saw your earlier post with a bunch of yj prompts and I really liked them, I've also had some really bad writers block and was wondering if I could get some zetaflash prompts or some flash fam prompts?

Sure thing…

A boom tube opens up but this time Ed and Bart can’t get out of it and are sent into the unknown…

Bart has to miss out on the heroes epic Halloween party because he’d promised to take the twins trick or treating - ed decides to tag along…

Bart gets hit with a truth telling drug/spell which compels him to say exactly what’s hidden inside his head…

Ed breaks his leg on a mission - Bart takes care of him while he’s stuck on bed rest…

A flash fam surprise birthday party for Bart… though keeping the secret turns out to be a lot trickier than expected…

Ed and Bart do some one on one training together…

A full flash fam family vacation can be described as one thing and one thing only… CHAOS, PURE, UTTERLY CHAOS…

Ed loses a bet/dare which means he has to dye his hair any colour of Bart’s choosing…

Okay, I’ll leave it at that for now… my mind would only really come up with zetaflash stuff, but I hope these are okay and are able to inspire something for you - I’d love to see if so. However, if you find you’re still not vibing with them, do let me know and I’ll see what else I can think up.

I know you said that your brain is not vibing with written content but I had an idea for an AU that has been stuck in my head : What if Bart travels back in time not to prevent the Reach apocalypse but was instead sent by the Reach for their own account (maybe to kill some hero). In this AU, he was trained from the Reach since childhood for this mission and was brainwashed to think that even if he tried to do something to stop them when he would be in the past, the Reach would win anyway.

Ooh I like it - that’s a really cool idea Anon… maybe someone of high value to them was taken out by the heroes or even the light and they want to change that to ensure a greater victory - or they want access to something like the warworld and there’s only one moment in time they’ve ever been close enough to achieve that… alternatively you could have a scenario where the reach learn of someone else’s plot to prevent the blue beetle from ever being put on mode - and so to ensure that never happens, they decide to send one of their best agents back to watch over and protect the young Jaime Reyes from this as yet unknown threat… once in the past, Bart must play into the hero image of yesteryear in order to infiltrate his way onto the team and remain close to Jaime - ensuring his fate is met and the timeline stays on course. I have the image of Bart being raised on old superhero media as a means of teaching him the character - the same way russian sleeper agents are often shown learning American way through American movies.

There’s something really fun about the concept of a more villainous Bart who’s actually loyal to the reach… also it’s interesting to think of Bart in his timeline being used like Jaime was whenever the media was around - as a symbol of the reach - used to manipulate opinions in their favour whilst emphasising the power they have at their fingertips… step out of line and Bart could take you out before you even had time to blink.

The last thing I’ll add because I think this is the perfect place to pose the question - where did Bart get a perfectly fitted super suit that has clear design influences of the reach when he’s supposed to be a slave of the apocalypse? I have had this thought swimming around my head since I read this great post which breaks down the fascinating reach themed details of the yj impulse suit. The post suggests the idea that Bart stole the suit, though, personally I sway more towards the idea it was genuinely made for him by the reach - like, it’s what he had to wear when they put him through meta testing situations… But thinking in terms of this au concept it would totally fit the idea of him being this agent of the Reach - carefully crafted into this recognisable image of a masked superhero - only now he’s a symbol of their power and influence over the people. Then, when he’s without his mask, he becomes a stranger, unknown and unnoticed, which allows for him to easily blend in with the humans - bringing the added threat that the Reach are always listening… they can never be escaped.

Anyway… this is a really great au idea, Anon - thanks for sharing!

I found this one after playing around with the filters on AO3 and I must say it was a pretty good find… exploring a darker side of Bart, it delves into the torment trapped inside his mind and the consequences that come with that. It also portrays a really compelling bond between Bart and Dick which I don’t think I’ve seen much of before but I liked it.

(We now return back to fics found through my usual method of searching - which is through the Eduardo tag… what can I say, he’s my fave…)

Here we’ve got bros bonding at the skatepark with Tye, Ed, Jaime and Bart set post s2 - there are some really fun moments between the duos - Bart’s entrance is particularly enjoyable. There are also some really heartfelt moments and discussions as Ed continues to contemplate what place he holds in his father’s world.

I can’t believe I haven’t recommended this one sooner - it's brilliant - it’s not too long but it’s full to the brim with wonderfulness. Bart meets up with Ed prior to his s4 mission and cuteness transpires! Oh it’s simply perfect! 🥰

Both this and the next recommendation are by the same writer who wrote my absolute all-time favourite fic ever - Into the Nothing - and these are just as good… this first one follows Eduardo sr. from the point of discovering junior is missing and delves into the elders mind set during that troubling period… there are not enough fics out there that focus on Ed’s dads perspective— I’m just saying.

Lastly, we have a runaways fic exploring the time between their joining Lex in The Runaways and The Hunt… and that’s about all I can say for now as I’ve actually only just started it - but I will say, so far so good. As with all the fics from this writer, there is such an incredible amount of depth given to every character they write for and considering these are the characters we don’t get to see as much canon development for - it’s everything I could ask for.
