Remembering Julie Vega

26 years ago, after the nation grieves to the death of one of the most phenomenal drama superstars, Julie Vega.

Vega was transferred to the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City at about 5:00 p.m on May 6, 1985 where she died suddenly and peacefully around 90 minutes later at the hospital'sintensive care unit, just 15 days shy of her 17th birthday. Her cause of death was officially listed as cardiac arrest secondary to bronchopneumonia. Her untimely death left Anna Liza with an incomplete storyline and the Filipino people in total shock. After lying in state at Mount Carmel Church in Quezon City, her body was laid to rest right next to her brother's grave at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City in a funeral attended by millions of grieving fans and colleagues from Philippine showbiz. 

At the time of her death, Vega left behind a large body of unfinished work aside from Anna Liza. She was supposed to promote her debut album First Love, do a second album for Emerald containing all Filipino language songs, perform with Imelda Papin in singing engagements both in the Philippines and abroad, start hosting two television shows (her own, Julie and Friends on Maharlika Broadcasting System, and as alternate host of Student Canteen on GMA), and star as one of the mainstays of the then upcoming teen-oriented talent show That's Entertainmenton GMA. She was also supposed to attend the University of the Philippines for her college education.

AJ Perez, a year ago...

Isang hatinggabi ng April 17, 2011 ang naging wakas ng isang buhay. Ang pagwawakas ng maningning ngunit maikling buhay ni Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez, kilala sa pangalang AJ Perez. Sa edad na 18 ay namaalam ng maaga ang batang aktor sanhi ng "broken ribs pierced to the heart and lungs". Muli nating sariwain ang kanyang mga alala.

Sa murang edad pa lamang na 12 anyos ay sinubukan na ni AJ ang pag-aartista. Nadiskubre ng isang talent scout, at naging bahagi siya ng mga commercials. Noong September 2005, naging bahagi siya ng isang survey para sa Candy magazine.

Ngunit sa kabila ng lahat ng kasikatang nagaganap, nananatili pa rin ang kanyang "professionalism" sa trabaho sa kabila ng pagiging bagito sa industriya. Marami pa sana siyang gagawin ngunit binago ito ng isang malagim na trahedya....

Si AJ ang kaisa-isang namatay sa nangyaring aksidente noong April 17. Labis na ikinadalamhati ito ng sambayanan.

Subalit ito'y naging umpisa upang mabigyang halaga ang kanyang kontribusyon sa industriya.

Ilan na diyan ang pagpapalabas ng huli niyang episode sa MMK, kung saan na-nomina siya bilang best actor para sa ENPRESS.

At nagkaroon pa ng Star sa Philippine Walk of Fame.

Tama nga ang kasibang "Death is not the end. It's just a beginning", ang kamatayan ay hindi katapusan ng lahat, bagkus ito'y umpisa ng isang bagong simula. Kaya't mananatili siya sa puso ninuman.

“My Dreams came True… and still dreaming” (an original write-up by Ymman Jake Biaco)

For my 14 years of existence in this world, I just want to say that my dreams finally came true. After having some things which became a challenge to me, some of these I accomplished. But despite of all these successes that I got, it’s only a starting point to be better in the field that I have.

This coming school year, I will enter the junior years, just two years ahead before I graduated in high school. At first, I consider high school as the worst stage of my life, but definitely, it’s just only an impression. They are some things that we do in school; of course, it’s natural to a student like me. I was so very busy throughout my first two years in school, as I was enrolled at the so-called Special Program in the Arts section; we are trained up like students on a specialty school for artists in different fields, including performing (dance, music, and theater), and non-performing arts (media arts, visual arts, and creative writing).

My dreams are finally fulfilled, but I want to dream big, like a person who wants to see a brighter future. At present, I’m still dreaming to become a matinee idol, or a TV personality who would star, write, produce, and direct a television series. Dreaming high is free, but we have to accomplish the race of fate, a race that would have me into triumphs and failures. I do not believe in luck and misfortune. I will accept what the Lord is given to me because faith is confidence.

In God We Trust. May God be Praised.

These are the graduates who I admire the most.

Julie Vega

Darling was a March 1985 graduate. She always prioritized her studies even over her progressive career. Indeed, she was and still is a great role model for all youth. Had she lived, she wanted to take up Dentistry but just like any college-student-to-be, she told Kuya Germs that she might change her mind in the long run. :)

AJ Perez

AJ was a 2011 graduate. Despite all of the things in showbiz that he accomplish, AJ still a good student. On an interview, AJ goes to the school first, and then, to his taping, VTRs, and also to other things regarding showbiz. Definitely, like Julie, AJ was and still a great role model to everybody. AJ was suppose to take up marketing to help running their business.

Truly, they are our own inspiration, despite the fact that they are gone, they are still my role models, because despite of their hectic schedules, they didn't stop their studies.
