Love it or hate it, AOL was a major internet player in the 90s, even outside the US. I remember using their 50-hour plan for 99 French francs/month in the late 90s. In 2015, AOL still had more than 2 millions dial-up internet subscribers.

So here we are, on September 30th, the iconic sound of the early internet will be silenced forever.
