"Let me see," Sumire commands him.

It looks painful.

Excruciatingly so, in fact, but Akechi won't say a word. Instead, his jaw is set tight, his eyes averted, his breaths shallow as he finally tilts his head to let Sumire closely examine the cut across his cheek.

She tries not to let the worry in her expression show as she murmurs, "I'll disinfect it, okay?" Reaches out and cups a hand under his chin gently, almost hovering, as if dealing with a wild animal. But Akechi doesn't even flinch and merely closes his eyes, even as the antiseptic stings across his wound.

It's the most vulnerable she's ever seen him. And more than that, he's allowing himself to be.

Around Sumire, of all people.

"Bandage next," she informs him quietly, gently sticking a bandage over the cut. "And — there. That should do it."

Sumire moves her hand away, and only then does Akechi open his eyes. His maroon eyes focus on hers for a moment, and he nods, just once, before hefting himself off the floor.

The mission in Mementos that day was absolutely grueling. On top of it being close to exam season, Sumire's gymnastics practices weren't letting up either — and as any one of the Phantom Thieves (especially Akira) know keenly well, Sumire would rather grit her teeth and bear it than admit she's feeling overwhelmed.

On the quiet ride back on the Monabus, Sumire slumps lower and lower in the backseat, her eyelashes fluttering in a futile attempt to stay awake — and eventually, her head gently drops onto Akira's shoulder as she dozes off.

(You might think that would be the end of it, but a few minutes later, she starts to nuzzle her cheek further into Akira's shoulder!! Getting rather comfortable, are we?!)

He takes a step to close the distance between them, and gently reaches out with both hands, using the pads of his index fingers to gently adjust her glasses frames, which had become crooked from all the exertion of moving so many heavy boxes.
