A muscle ticked in his jaw. "Because I don't hate you." His voice was low, rough. "Not even close."

Her breath hitched. "Malfoy—"

They sat up, so close now the night air vanished. His hand lifted, hesitated, then brushed a curl from her cheek. His knuckles lingered against her skin.

"Tell me to stop," he whispered.

She couldn't. God help her, she couldn't. She shook her head.

He kissed her like a man starved—slow at first, searching, then deeper, desperate. Her fingers fisted in his cloak. His hand slid to her waist, pulling her flush against him.

The kiss burned through her like wildfire. His mouth was soft but insistent, moving with a hunger that sent her spinning. His hand slid up her back, over the dip of her spine, pulling her so close she felt the hard thud of his heartbeat against her chest.
