There is something wrong.” It was a fifty-fifty shot of outing herself as a psychic whether he knew or not already. There was a chance that Singer had mentioned it.

“And you realize it’s probably better for me to cry with someone about your death than do it alone into a bottle of wine, right? Cause you die a lot. I mean, I was dead for a minute too.”

“I’m in the market for some more friends. Ones that don’t disappear for months and up to a year at a time. And actually, you know, call me.” She has one (1) friend and would like some more. She misses Lorelai and Sigurd a lot, but the ones she knew aren’t in this universe.

Remember Verity screaming at Thor to stop hurting Loki and being so panicked about him being thrown out a window? I’m having feelings and thoughts.

“How can you complain about doorways and not showers? I had to get mine specially made.” It is not fun to have to hunch over to get clean.

   ❝ that definitely sounds like it’s going to make me cry, then. ❞ they grumbled, though really it wasn’t that they didn’t believe her. it was their own grumpy cynicism that was getting in the way. ❝ can’t we just watch one of you documentaries and then i’ll just fall asleep like i usually do? ❞ 

    loki paused, chewing on their bottom lip for a moment before propping themselves up on their elbows so they could look at her better. ❝ i’m not … sad. just cranky. i’m stressed, ver. that’s all. ❞ the god assured, before settling back into their place in her arms.

   ❝ i didn’t know you were a cat person. ❞ 

“We can do that.” And she grabbed her remote off the floor to flip to her recordings, putting on one of the documentaries about fungus. It made pretty good background noise without making her brain itch. 

Verity just tilted her head to look at them with a little raised brow, “You know I can want you to be happy without you being sad at the beginning, right?” And once they settled back down, she just started petting their hair without a second thought, her head turned to look at her tv again. It was actually pretty interesting. “I might be. Just gotta meet the right one. Who knows, maybe next time you come over I might have turned into a crazy cat lady.”

    ❝ it’s not going to make me cry, is it? ❞ the god mumbled, getting comfortable in her arms before sighing. it probably would. they were already in a foul mood and they had a weak spot for … wholesome family content like that. perhaps because they’d never really known how it felt. 

    but that was besides the point. though they did frown from the thought. eyebrows furrowed. not from anything she said, however. ❝ i don’t care what we watch, really. i’m just here for you after all. ❞

“I don’t think so.” Puppies were just cute. Though the one they were watching might do that to him. A young puppy who needed to nurse being given to a mother who only had one left of her litter. Taking in the new baby without a second thought. 

“Yeah, but I want you to be happy, you know? so I don’t mind changing it. Puppies are just...nice. I’ve been thinking about getting a cat.” It got lonely around there sometime and cats didn’t lie to you. So that made it easier.

    they sort of unceremoniously flop onto her, though they’re careful not to hurt her as they do so. slipping their arms around her as best as they can as they snuggle up to her. their head resting just so they can see the show she was talking about. their a bit quite in their grumpiness, but they appreciate her none the less. 

    there’s a long silence, before, ❝ it’s … just puppies? ❞

“Yeah, I mean, it’s like mom dogs taking care of their litters and the puppies growing up and going to their homes.” She was still a lot smaller than them, so she adjusted, looping her arms around their waist and looking to the tv again. “I watch it a lot when I’m working. Puppies are relaxing.” Her thumbs moving back and forth, “Did you wanna watch something else?”

“C’mon then.” And she grabbed their arm and tugged a little to the couch she was already laying on. Honestly, watching everyone get touchy, feely, kissy was making her get something. It felt a little like envy, but she’d get over it. She always did. “Cuddle time, Loki. Pretty sure this puppy show is coming on and we all love them.” @iorast​

Being lied to is more than just a feeling in the back of Verity’s head, it’s actual, physical discomfort. Illusions are like a step bellow lying--they don’t cause that same discomfort, but she does just see right through them. It’s why they made her cry as an infant. Made her shut down from relationships with other people. People lying to her face, depending on the severity, can genuinely make her sick.

    another day, another person who knew a loki somewhere on the timeline that they had to now explain that they didn’t know. it really was getting a bit tiring. maybe another vacation was … well, they had to make it through this interrogation first. 

    right. stepping out of a time door seemed to freak even the most composed people out, didn’t it. even if in the timeline verity was in she was very used to loki’s shenanigans. or so the paper work made it seem. ❝ verity willis, hi. can i speak with you for a moment? it’s a matter of … well, the universes. if you don’t mind. ❞

That was very...formal. And unlike the way Loki normally spoke to her. Sure, he was always some version of polite, but not formal. There was a distance to it. And the weird doorway that he made appear wasn’t doing him any favors. Not that he hadn’t done it before. More than once. She wasn’t worried about that. 

“I mind. Do you know me?” Her eyes narrowed behind her glasses and something in her chest ached a little. She missed her Loki. Her best friend. Who had gone off to god knows where.
