“I was curious as to who the office belonged to was all, no other reasoning. – Well of course I’m in a hospital, that much is obvious. Didn’t know if you were a doctor, nurse, you know what I mean.” 

“Well it belongs to me. I’m Dr Zarek Varinski, I work in the er and Im the hospital administrator. Is your curiosity sated now?”.

“Can we talk about something else, for like a second? Like how good things are going for you lately? Shine a little positive light on me for a bit.”

“Of course we can but we will come back to this.” He replied, leaning back in his chair. “What makes you think things are going great for me? I mean they are but what gives it away?”

“I’ll keep that in mind for the next time I’m wandering around the halls, more confused than any sane person should be, really why don’t you guys have a map?” she merely joked, shaking her head. “I was wondering where I’d find an obstetrician here?” Harper’s cheeks flushed a dark red, face paling more.

“I think there are some, they are just stationed at random places in the building. Im not sure any are on this floor though because a good majority of it is used for the staff so not a lot of patients end up here.” Dropping his hand as she shook her head, he looked at the list of floors that was on his desk. “4th floor. I can take you if you want.”

“Right, apologies again.” She cleared her throat, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I was looking for a specific Dr. Darren, if that rings a bell?”

“It doesnt actually. What do they specialize in?”

Aurora’s back remained to him as she respected his space, eyes studying the different pieces on the wall before finally turning back to face him, shrugging. “In case you wanted to finish getting changed, or needed some alone time, there’s nothing wrong with that, you know.” She assured him with a smile, cheeks only darkening as his lips pressed briefly against them. “Oh, I just thought I’d surprise you, it reminded me of you and I’m clearly making a bit of a fool out of myself with my little ramblings.”

“I dont need or want you to leave. In fact you can turn around. Its not like its nothing you havent seen before.” As he spoke, he turned her around to face him, lifting one of his hands to brush over her cheek. “Nonsense, it was sweet of you to think of me.”

Aurora adjusted herself just enough to give Zarek more room, being the smaller of the two. Maybe not, but it doesn’t mean it’s okay, I’m usually better about not doing so but I guess we all have those certain things that cause us to.“ She rambled, words soft as cheeks colored. "I don’t think so either, I’ll stick with turtlenecks, scarves and blankets for warmth. You say that like you’re not.” the words slipped out in response to his, brows furrowing together as he turned away. “Is everything alright?”

“I didnt think me looking down on myself would still be one of your anger triggers.” He muttered softly. He had never really gotten use to being cared for the way that Aurora cared for him. Sure, his parents had been wonderful but a part of him had always know that they had been playing a part and he had been right. A soft smile came to his lips as she continued to ramble. “Might be a wise choice.” He chuckled, at her question, he nodded his head before dropping back on his pillow. “Everything is fine.”

“I think that’s adorable. That makes sense, unless you were to hire a sitter but then that sort of defeats the whole purpose of having a dog. I’m sure there’s plenty of options, or there’s always cats. Sober up? I am very sober, silly.” Aurora giggled, fingers curving against his cheekbones. “Why wouldn’t I be? Some of my fondest of memories are of us camping.” She admitted, burying her head against his chest to hide the yawn that managed to slip out. “It’s not showing off, it’s having fun doing something you'er good at.” She insisted, kissing his neck with a small peck out of habit and the amount of liquor coursing through her. 

“I think getting a sitter would very much defeat the purpose, I’d much rather rescue a dog that no one gave a chance and show it the love that it deserves.” He mused, letting his eyes move around his small apartment as they swayed together. Very much aware of her fingers on his face. “I’m not much of a cat person my dear. And I don’t know, peoples interests change. I didnt think you would want to be stuck in a tent with me.” Lowering his hand to her hair, he ran his fingers through it soothingly as he moved the two of them around his living room. “I can have fun without showing everyone. Im much rather do things in the privacy of my own home.”

The kiss almost surreal beyond words against her lips, something she’d spent countless days and nights longing for and here of all places, she still found it almost impossible to believe how things were coming together. Unable and unwilling to break the shared kiss between them for fear that her inner most desires would return to being just that, her fingers clinging to fabric of his shirt with a desperation like she’d never felt. 

Had this had been any other moment, his kisses wouldnt have been so greedy, so needy but it had been so long since he had last felt this connection. It was like he was a drowning man and she was his only hope of survival. After what felt like hours - but was only minutes - the dark haired male broke the kiss to take a much needed breath of air, but he didnt move completely away from her as he placed light kisses along the contours of her face.

The paleness in Aurora’s cheeks colored immensely at Zarek’s teasing, dismissing his remark with a light shake of her head. “We’ll just call it making up for lost time, but I would say not, but then of course I’m mostly biased.” Pink lips curved into a soft, kind smile as he took the box, no part of her making a move to deny the help, it was no secret that the other was much more built for heavy lifting. “Thank you,” Aurora nodded, cheeks darkening. “How have you been? Enjoying the holidays?”

“Making up for lost time?” He repeated then nodded with a smile. “I like that, and it makes a lot of sense.” Lifting his shoulder in a slight shrug as she thanked him, he moved over to take her jacket from her. His nerves suddenly running at full speed. “Can I get you anything to drink? Eat maybe? My holiday was quiet. I stayed here for the most part, though i did spend a few hours dressed as Santa in the Children’s ward.”

“You do give up too easily and you make yourself miserable, then things turn out wonderfully at the end,” she rose her eyebrows, “this doesn’t happen to have anything to do with Aurora, does it? Because I’m pretty sure I’ve ever seen you smile..at least, this much.”

Zarek made a pyramid with his fingers and placed them under his chin. His smile only growing at her spot on observation  " Perhaps it has everything to do with Aurora."

“A little bit but it’s quite alright.” He put his fork down and leaned back in his chair slightly. “Not to mention wonderful doctors such as the ones you work with. If a baby is what you want then go for it.”

“I’m sorry, I should’ve knocked I just was hoping to surprise you and part of me was hoping you wouldn’t be back yet, and I can leave and come back again.” Aurora’s cheeks flushed a dark red, covering her eyes coyly. “I just was wondering through town, had the day off and when I walked into the little bakery, they had a cupcake that I figured you might like and I..” she shrugged, words trailing off as she finally looked up, eyes fixated on his face.

As Zarek realized it was Aurora that had entered the room, he relaxed letting his hands drop instead of finishing buttoning his shirt. She had seen him shirtless before and he wasn't shy when it came to her. "It's alright. Why would you want to leave and come back again?" He asked curiously, moving over to her and placing a gentle impulsive kiss on her cheek. "And you what?"

Aurora swallowed at the closeness, color brushing over her cheeks as she nodded, shaking her head. “It’s okay, I shouldn’t have snapped, I just don’t like hearing you downplay yourself.” She told him honestly, making no move to pull her hand back. “It happens to the best of us, I suppose. That’s always a plus, especially this time of year, it’s a shame I don’t have the ability to grow one out.” She teased, a soft smile appearing.

Zarek sighed and stretched his legs back out. With the way the rain was sounding against the tent, he wasn't getting out of there any time soon. "I don't blame you for snapping. I'd actually be surprised if you didn't snap." He teased with a playful wink. "No offense but I don't think you could pull it off. You're to gorgeous for that." His cheeks darkened as the words slipped from his mouth and he looked away from her.

Aurora’s gaze wavered slightly in her drunken state, struggling to keep her attention settled on one particular thing. “Wait, are you being serious right now? Do you actually want a puppy?” the girl couldn’t hide the smile if she wanted to, grinning from ear to ear as she kept her hands pressed to either side of his face. “You know, you can always ask me, unless camping with me is no longer something that interests you..” she suggested, trailing off as she spoke. But a small yep followed by a loud series of giggles followed in sync once Aurora felt her feet lift from the ground, “You’re perhaps the most humble person I know, you’re allowed to show off once in a while.”

"Of course I'm being serious. Though I don't want a super high maintenance puppy since I work a lot. So maybe a slightly older dog. We should go to the shelter when you sober up." He suggested. A smile of his own slipped onto his lips as she cupped his cheeks. "I didn't think you'd still be interested in camping with me." He muttered with a shrug, dark eyes meeting hers. "I don't see the point of showing off."

Aurora’s cheeks continued to darken, the giggles making her anxious as was everyone else whose eyes seem to fall on them. “That’s nice to hear. I always worry about everyone, this shouldn’t surprise you.” She mumbled. Aurora’s heart skipped a beat, but as his gaze met hers, it suddenly felt as though no time between them had passed at all. Memories flooded her mind from years ago as he leaned in, eyes falling shut and suddenly it was just the two of them frozen in time.

If he was doing anything other than kissing the only woman he had - and would ever - love, he would be worried about the alarming rate that his heart was racing at. But he knew that it stemmed from her touch. The world faded away has his hands dropped from her face to rest on her waist before pulling her closer to him.

Aurora had taken time off during the holidays to spend time with her sister, and friends she’d made since arriving to town, as well as Zarek, or so she’d hoped. So when she received the text, she happily replied and collected her things, including a small something that she managed to put together for him during her Christmas shopping. With a box larger than her upper half, she set it down on the porch as she waited for Zarek to answer, cheeks turning an instantaneous shade of pink. “Hi, you look nice.” she pointed out honestly, lifting the wrapped box back up and stepping inside.

Zareks eyebrows lifted in amusement at the size of the box Aurora held compared to her stature. "Did you go a little overboard?" He teased, reaching out to take the box from her. Taking it over to sit on the floor beside her presents, he turned back around to take in her appearance. An easy smile appearing on his lips. "You look breathtaking."

“There is no explanation, other than the fact that I was curious.– This is your office you said? What do you do to earn such a nice space?”"

"Curious of what?" He asked, crossing the room to sit back at his desk. "You're in a hospital. What else would I be other than a doctor of some sorts."
