Just a friendly PSA to stay hydrated and sane.
Good luck, friends. MCAT is terrible on even the best day. So stay strong.

Day 9 (I think? I don’t know anymore) of MCAT Take IV.
It’s been a month since my last original post. I’ve been on and off studying. I’m working with tutors now. I have a schedule. Just wanted to post that I’m still alive and staying hydrated. That’s all for now. I’ve wasted enough time today.

Love this story of PGY survival.
Growth
I have done this before
It was just past midnight and I was delivering a mom by myself. I had paged faculty several minutes ago that the baby was ready, but for some reason, neither my faculty nor my upper level residents had come. I waited. I stalled. I paged again. Still no one came. And it was time to deliver.
Seventy babies delivered this year, and I still have a second of panic at the moment of delivery. Then, what has been drilled into me kicks in, and I move automatically.
Protect. Pull down. anterior shoulder. pull up. protect. posterior shoulder. Place on mom. Clamp, cut, massage the uterus.
The baby cried, the room cheered. I smiled behind my mask.
The smile faded when I realized that something was wrong. There was too much blood. Where was it coming from? I have done this before. I felt the uterus. atony. Page faculty again. I called for pitocin as I pushed my whole hand into the vagina and placed the other on her abdomen. I squeezed the uterus, praying the blood pouring onto my shoes would stop. I have done this before. Pitocin was in. The uterus did not firm up. More pitocin, and get methergine. I asked mom, distracted by her baby, if she had hypertension. She said no, is everything ok? I replied as calmly as I was able, you’re bleeding more than I’d like but we’re going to take care of you. Give the methergine. Pray. Squeeze. Wait. The uterus began to firm and shrink. The blood slowed. I began to breathe again. I have done this before.
I stepped back, cleaned the vagina and noted bleeding only from a small tear now. I called for a needle. While I waited for the needle, faculty and my upper levels burst into the room. There had been two obstetric emergencies at the same time in different parts of the hospital and they could not leave those emergencies. I told them what happened, what I had done. They looked at me. You have done this before? Yes, I have.

16 November 2018
Days 5 & 6 of MCAT Take IV.
I’m writing this post several days of studying. I had taken a picture of Day 5 on the 13th, but for some reason, I’ve been unable to post it, and I’m tired of trying to figure it out, so y’all get a text post.
It’s been a rough couple of days. Getting back into the swing of studying really sucks. I hate studying for this stupid test. It makes me feel like an idiot, honestly. I had to take a mental health day or two, especially because I think I stressed myself out so much, I gave myself a massive headache that didn’t go away for several days, which severely affected my stress level even MORE.
And we had a massive snowstorm on the East Coast, and I ended up stranded for over half a day at my brother’s house without my stuff. Which is an excuse, I know, but I’m taking it.
Like I said, it’s rough getting back into this. Finding the motivation to do this another time isn’t easy. I got a tutor, as I mentioned in a previous post, but I’m not sure if I like the ways she works. I’m trying out another tutor in a few days, so I guess I’ll see how that goes.
But I don’t know how to go about studying this time. I started by just getting a schedule for the week from that one tutor, but she’s kind of unreliable, and I work best with schedules and planning, and she’s not giving me that, so I’m a little frazzled. I resorted to studyschedule.com, which is a great website, but not the best when you’re switching around what resources you have and what you want to be doing each day. I don’t know. I’m feeling lost again.
I just spent a few hours at my local Panera but I did nothing. I did one chem passage. That’s it. The rest of the time was spent clearing my inbox, fixing my calendar, trying to work out my own kind of schedule.
I’m stressing and I don’t know what’s happening with my life.
Anyway, that is all.
Thanks.
