Book Launch Team Hi Ink Spillers, So I really need your help... I would absolutely love it if some of you would like to join my book launch team. I am providing a free e-book version of my new children's picture book Chasing Butterflies in exchange for fair and honest Amazon reviews. It's actually really hard to get people to take the time to leave a review. So this will help me out so much as reviews encourage people to buy my book and help get it shown on Amazon so I can reach more customers and in turn sell more books. If you have an Amazon account and are willing to leave me an honest review please sign up at the below link:- https://www.subscribepage.com/zoesbooklaunchteam Thank you so much. Zoe x

The London Book Fair Apologies for my Internet silence this last week or so. I have been away in London all week as I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to attend the London Book Fair this year. What an amazing experience it has been. I have to admit I was more than a little nervous about venturing to the fair all on my own. It is based at the Olympia in London, absolutely huge and somewhat overwhelming seeing everyone and everything that is important in publishing under one roof. Thankfully I had a few friends who I knew would be at the fair, which really helped and it also meant I met a few more people and that in turn I hope has opened up a few new doors for me in terms of my work. Including a potential brand new and very exciting stockist for one of my books, which I can hopefully tell you more about soon. Not only did I get to wander around the fair and talk to a few people in the industry but I also had the opportunity to attend seminars all about the publishing industry including insights and new technologies. Not only that but also talks specifically for authors and illustrators, including ones specifically for those who self publish. One of the highlights for me was a talk by the wonderful Jacqueline Wilson who you may know as the author of Tracey Beaker. She talked all about her own top tips to becoming a successful children's author. I also saw the current children's laureate, Lauren Child, speak about her own illustration and book work which was absolutely fascinating. I felt very privileged to be able to attend these talks. I also managed to book myself a portfolio review with an art director from the children's publisher Little Tiger Press. Every now and again I think it is good to have your portfolio reviewed by fresh eyes and professionals in the industry. It helps keep things fresh and constructive criticism is always helpful no matter how much you do or do not want to hear it! I have to say all my feedback was pretty much as I expected and has definitely given me food for thought and even a potential slightly new direction. I am going to write up a more in depth post about my portfolio review very soon, although probably after I finish the new book Chasing Butterflies as I would love to hear your thoughts too. Last of all I jumped at the chance to display my books at my old University's publishing stand as an alumni and also on the Alliance of Independent Authors stand as a practicing member. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to showcase my books at such a prestigious event. So this year it was the London Book Fair. Hopefully, next year it will be the big one for me and that is the Bologne Children's Book Fair!

I have just spent a whirlwind of a weekend in Hay-on-Wye for their Hay independence celebration and bookstagram week. I met one of the local booksellers, Addyman Books, last year and I was delighted to be invited to Hay to take part in their event. I can tell you, it was so much fun and I had a ball attending all the bookstagram events, including a wonderful a talk by a Welsh children's publisher, Firefly Press. I had bookstagram breakfasts, bought some books and in amongst this also celebrated my birthday which fell on Easter Sunday this year and also happened to be Hay's official independence birthday too. I also read some stories and ran a couple of children's workshops over the weekend at The Globe, the independent arts centre in Hay. This involved lots of colouring in, activities and even a monster treasure hunt. I am pretty sure the children had fun. I certainly did! Thanks so much to everyone in Hay for organising such a wonderful event. A special thanks to Anne of Addyman books for making me feel so very welcome and making extra sure I enjoyed my visit and my birthday. I can't wait to take part agin next year and I am back to Hay in a few weeks time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy another bookish weekend for the Hay Festival.

Chasing Butterflies
"Today is the day! Today is the day Nova is going to catch a butterfly."
Nova is going on a butterfly hunt!
Meet free spirited Nova, a very determined little girl with one goal in mind; to catch a butterfly.
Watch Nova's adventure unfold and join her on the chase...
Happily, I can finally announce that my new children’s picture book ‘Chasing Butterflies’ will be published on the 1st June 2018. I am just finishing up the last few spreads in the book. It will be ready to go off to the printers at the end of April ready for its June publication.
I shall be opening a pre-order for the book very soon, within the next week or two!
Also anyone who buys a copy of Chasing Butterflies who supported my original Unbound campaign will also get an extra thank you in the post. There will be a few different options available including some original sketches of Nova up for grabs. My pre-order will also help me cover the final printing cost of the book as any extra little bit helps. I hope you love the look of it and I can't wait get it all finished and ready for you all.

A little while ago I decided to take the plunge and join Patreon. If you have never heard of Patreon, it is a membership based platform for artists. It is a way for artists to build relationships with potential patrons. Think of it exactly like being a patron of the arts.
Subscribers or patrons can join the site and support there favourite artists for as little as $1 a month. In exchange artists provide exclusive content and rewards for their patrons. Anything from sneak peeks into an artist’s work, videos and free downloads to posting out exclusive original art, prints, cards and more. Of course, if you don’t want to pledge you can still follow along for free and keep up to date with an artist’s work and news.
I love the idea of Patreon and support a few artists over there myself. It’s a great way to network and share exclusive content. Social media is making it harder and harder for creatives such as myself to share their work and extend their reach so Patreon is a great way to enhance my audience.
I have lots of goals and plans as my audience grows over on Patreon so do check it out and see what I am up to at the link below:-

Well, who would've thunk?
Stick your children's e-book up for free for a couple of days on Amazon and you make a bestseller list or two.
In fact I made the UK's No #1 bestselling free Children's e-book in the Action and Adventure category.
Also No #4 in the free Children's e-book Literature and Fiction and No #178 Free in Kindle Store.
Taking baby steps but feeling quite proud of my little book and maybe even myself!

New Book Release: One Makes a Difference
I just want to share a new book project I have been working on with you.
About a year ago I was approached by a local (Isle of Wight) author to illustrate his first book. It is a tale about a little girl who has a wondrous adventure with a mermaid and some unicorns. How could I not want to illustrate a book full of my favourite things?
The great thing about this book is it has an environmental theme running throughout, a warning that we need to make a difference now to look after our planet! I also love that it also gives a nod to women in science which is very topical at the moment.
Check out the author’s website for more info:-

Delighted to see the launch of another book in the British Values series for Gresham Books. This time for the Household Cavalry Museum. Really enjoyed having the chance to illustrate some horses and loved drawing all the guard uniforms. Some great spreads in this book too!

Dear Monster Messengers,
A call to revive the lost art of letter writing.
I will be writing a series of monster messages to friends, relatives, colleagues or anyone I think might appreciate a friendly little monster in a message. Each message is handwritten and illustrated just for its recipient.
This project is purely to brighten up someones day. Of course I would be delighted if you felt like you wanted to have a go and write one yourself. Perhaps it is to someone special or someone who needs a little monster fun in their life!
Do tag your creation with #monstermessages and feel free to share the project and this video. If you happen to receive one do let me know you got it but most of all enjoy it and treasure it!
Spread the #monstermessages!
Much monster love,
Zoe Xx
