Going on twitter right after the episode gave me a migraine.

gee! i sure do love this complex female character with COMPLEX thoughts and COMPLEX feelings and COMPLEX reasons for her actions. surely the fandom wont villainize her and make her into a irredeemable monster for doing something even slightly unkind! (male character has done something a 100x worse.) looks at social media oh! well surely they wont water down her character into a single trait and/or only examine her at surface level and then proceed to misunderstand her entire personality, motives, and values! looks at social media again oh.

I love Conquest (my pookie), but this is so true and I totally agree. I genuinely don’t believe he can be changed or rehabilitated. Even if he were given the opportunity, I don’t think he’d be able to take it.

My interpretation, though it might not be totally accurate, just hear me out y’all, is that Conquest is in a “have his cake and eat it too” situation. He enjoys the violence; he’s lived in it, grown into it, for hundreds of years. But he resents how demonized he is for it, even by his own violent race. He believes he’s capable of more, but what does “more” even look like for someone like him? And if the opportunity to change really presented itself, could he actually take it?

I think, deep down, even though he hates being so alone and monstrous, this is who he is. And he could never truly be anything different.

(That being said, keep writing redemption fics babes, I eat that shit up!🤣)

I do agree, I don’t think Cecil would try to rehabilitate Conquest. But I do wanna explain why not, even though he’s rehabilitated others.

While he did it with Darkwing II, he was human. I’m sure Cecil and the GDA have the tech and resources to alter and increase the pliability of rehabilitation.

Sinclair, I don’t think was particularly rehabilitated. I think Cecil put gave him purpose, and put in structure. Sinclair is just a dog on Cecil’s leash, he obeys because he’s given resources, even with restrictions.

That is to say, Conquest is too much of a risk for Cecil and the GDA to even attempt rehabilitation. He’s too much of a wildcard, that Cecil has no connection to, so he can’t predict his behavior (unlike Darkwing II). And he’s too powerful, Mark and Eve barely won that fight, so he can’t reliably control him physically (unlike Sinclair).

It’s a cute idea to think Conquest can be rehabilitated, but from what I’ve seen of the character. There is a minuscule, inconsequential chance of it happening given the current cannon climate.

That being said, I like the idea of it as a fanfic premise. Having him work for it, dealing with ingrained and violent instincts, with trying to play nice. All on top of the GDA breathing down his neck or something.
