The Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) said stereotypes in adverts ‘contribute to how people see themselves and their role in society‘. The rules, which will come into force in June 2019, will ban every ad featuring clichés traditionally associated with gender. This will include men struggling with household chores and young girls being less academic than boys.

The decision follows a review of gender stereotyping in adverts by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). They are responsible for UK Advertising Codes, written by CAP.

The review found that ‘harmful stereotypes can restrict the choices, aspirations, and opportunities of children, young people, and adults’.

These traditional depictions, in fact, might hold people back from ‘fulfilling their potential, or from aspiring to certain jobs and industries, bringing costs for individuals and the economy’.

The 32-year-old woman died from injuries caused by blunt weapons on Wednesday (12 December) night, the Star Online reports. A local police chief told the Star someone found her outside a hotel on Thursday morning.

An ambulance rushed her to hospital. However, doctors pronounced her dead at 10.47 am. A postmortem revealed she suffered 32 injuries. She died from a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain. Police have launched a murder investigation.

On Tuesdsy (11 December), he signed the PEPFAR Extension Act of 2018. The bill provides billions into funding and research for HIV prevention and treatment. Created in 2003, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief is the largest global health program targeted at one specific disease. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama previously renewed it in 2008 and 2013, respectively.

This new bill extends funding until 2023.

Trump’s previous budget proposal for 2019 suggested cutting hundreds of millions from PEPFAR. According to reports, these cuts could have led to 300,000 AIDS-related deaths and 1.75 million new infections each year.

So when New York City’s Commission on Human Rights issued guidance in December 2015 that strengthened nondiscrimination protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations, it was lauded as a move that would surely help.
