exactly like that! though she's not the only one...
edit: might need to add some additional dialogue to this to make it more clear, but a clarification in the interim; he knows about his own footprints. he's just surprised to see something similar already there when he knows he's only just landed. he lifts his own shoe to confirm that they're not identical (and also to reveal this to the viewer). seems his stoicism beat off the clarity in this one, sorry 😭

btw i think for tadc discussion posts where i ramble abt the show (be it analysis or meta stuff or just me thinking abt it) im just gonna start using the tag Circus Discussion... i was thinking of that tag for a while and it still feels too silly but also its the only one i can think of that isnt SUPER silly. plus its vague enough so i can use it for a wider variety of posts (cus some things i dont think anything like 'analysis' or 'meta' would actually fit, cus its not alwaays really either of those, so i think discussion is more broadly applicable). im gonna work on tagging posts w this cus i have a bit to sort thru :] (this blog has 654 posts and will have 655 when i post this)

literally just looking at various potential research labs for grad school and my brain has the audacity to give me the “fucking up the protein purification in front of everyone so badly they all think I���m an idiot” nightmare again
#haven’t had that bad boy since I left my research tech job#to be fair I’m p sure I’m the only person in the labs I’m looking at that has ever even purified a protein#like. of the labs I’m looking at the only wet labs are somewhere that doesn’t have the equipment on site#the others aren’t wet labs at all#but it is funny bc I was talking to a potential PI and she mentioned a problem that I could consider working on and my brain was like. well#this is prob best approached by enzyme activity assays#and I’m p sure this guy can’t be assayed in vivo#so. protein purification for in vitro testing?#but I HATE PURIFICATION.#and also literally if I wanted to do it I’d have to go to the other campus that has the centrifuges and liquid nitrogen!!!!!#which is fucking bizarre to me bc I worked somewhere where those things were standard#the university doesn’t even have an fplc……….#they simply don’t do that shit. which is kinda the point bc I don’t like that shit#and YET#somehow this specific problem offered to me as a potential thesis activates my sleeper agent purification brain#maybe if I were purifying my Own proteins for my Own assay to answer my Own questions……….#like. I wanna study evolution and genes!!!!!!#but if your genes keep having similar deletions in a protein under a certain condition I wanna know why????????#is it loss of function????? and if it’s not how is it changing function???????? how is it benefiting the organism?????#I was like okay well. have you tried knockouts of wild type and subbing in just this mutation#and PI was like /: we try to avoid knockouts bc expensive#and I realized how spoiled I have been bc I was in a lab where we already had and could afford knockouts and double knockouts#like oh you wanna study this gene? wanna sub in a modified version?#cool let’s order primers we have the knockouts you can put it on whatever plasmid expression system you want#that said. we did not have a plate reader or easy access to genotyping esp expression mass spec so#pros and cons. they do different stuff that they are set up for#but also apparently during Covid the prof that studies malaria literally used his own blood bc he couldn’t afford to source it#which. honestly given current events it’s good to know everyone already can buckle their belts and run a lab on two cents and fellowships#456 words#lab tag

the thing is that id love to go in the ocd tags but i fear the advice would kill me and also whenever someone says something about how 'oh x is actually not good for your ocd' i end up obsessing over whether or not i have 'good' ocd and am 'actually doing enough on my end to combat my ocd' then it spirals into 'im not doing enough to combat my ocd and because of that im bad and not good and am evil and terrible and deserve bad things to happen to me' so i can safely say i dont know if the ocd tag is quite healthy for me
#what i need is therapy again. which i keep saying ...#but i keep forgetting i need to get that done. its hard#but me n my therapist HAD been working on ocd stuff so im sad abt not having access to that right now...#esp bc i dont have my meds either for it#and ocd is very. its NOT easy to treat by yourself#most things a person does to treat their own ocd is JUST new compulsions is the irritating things#ocd is like... the intense fine line between doing literally anything and realizing so much of your life is compulsions#and not even knowing how much of it is you. or if theres anything there aside frim obsessions#then you get worried that its like. thats further evidence you have Bad type of ocd because you cant tell#where u end and obsessions begin#waves hand. its whatever#i talk abt ocd a lot but its cus it defines a lot of the Everything i do#also im hungry rn which is probably related#ocd i wish you were easier to treat#ive had this since i was a kiddddd so it gets hard to tell w these things#and (said gripping my leg tightly) i am not gonna get existential about the implications of this im nottttt#<- even saying that could technically count as a compulsion. which is the stressful part#fun fact for anyone reading qho got here from my sideblog uhhh#my fic w pomni im working on has a repeated use of a phrase whenever she gets wrapped up in a spiral#and this too is a compulsion and is written as such and is not actually good for her. 💔#sighsssss#ask to tag

From the book Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD:
Putting a coat on the back of a chair by the door is fine, but if you prefer, use coat hooks and a large catch-all basket for dropping keys, hats, gloves.
Small bookcase end-table next to the couch to store craft projects, books, and other things being worked on for easy access.
Add a storage unit near the dining room table to transition between eating and working there.
Daily toiletry items should be stored in a basket that you can move easily
Extra toiletries and medicine cabinet items go in open shelf/basket storage so they can be seen and used easily. If items no longer fit, purge the excess. Don't obscure the view!
If you disrobe in the bathroom, place a tall hamper in there.
Keep a set of cleaning supplies in each bathroom
