The spinoff of After I Married the Evil God, featuring Rong Yu and his king of gods 👍 I reread Evil God specifically to read this novel and I'm glad I did!

Rong Yu, the Son of Luck of world 6666, gained awareness of the myriad of worlds and defected, dooming world 6666 to destruction. For this, and for other crimes related to bringing chaos to the worlds, Rong Yu had his powers sealed by the Lord God Yan Zhuo, and was thrown into Punishment Worlds to serve out his sentence.

Could someone tell him why the Lord God keeps appearing in these worlds, unintentionally fishing him out of trouble?

... Wasn't this meant to be a punishment?

This novel starts out slow, lulling you into a false sense of security. And then Fu Bai Qu turns around, smiles, and starts digging your soul out the same way they always do in their novels!!! I somehow almost forgot this signature move of theirs while reading this!! That is to say, the first two worlds are pretty normal quick transmigration worlds with the normal tropes (love at first sight, lover is a plug-in, devastation after the MC leaves, immediate recognition of each other in the next world, etc). And then you start to feel a sense of incongruity. You (and Rong Rong) turn around and analyze the first two worlds along with the third and come to the same conclusion: something big is afoot here.

The author's ability to take the established tropes of a genre that tend to make a lot of these novels repetitive and turn that into something that's heart wrenching and painful is great and I wish to take a page out of their book in my own writing 🫡 I also love their continued use of the same universe, it was fun seeing mentions of Qi Ye and Qi Baicha and connect the dots as to when certain things were taking place. I love that the author also continues to use time, timeloops, and time paradoxes in conjunction with destiny and fate in these novels. Very good very yummy I am very weak to all of this 👍👍👍

Rong Yu is a burning hot flame, an arrogant lotus flower literally born to lord it over all others. He holds grudges, has a bad temper, and is vindictive. He's lazy, spoiled rotten by Yan Zhao in many of the worlds after winning him over, and hides his real thoughts and emotions carefully. He's afraid of being burnt after catching fire once, and he vents his grievances out on Yan Zhao-the source of his suffering. Everything he experienced, he vows returns to him tenfold.

But secretly, he's soft hearted.

Yan Zhao isssss. Spoilers. I love the dramatic switch of perspective to his in the last arc and the culmination of everything that is bad happening all at once. The despair 👍 The love that is immediately lost 👍 Fighting against the literal laws of the universe in an attempt to see him again 👍 Very good. I also want to cry over the reveal on why he loves Rong Yu on sight in the first four worlds and why he has psychological shadows over certain things in his character settings..... Augh.

It was a slippery slope of attatched investment to yelling over these two in the last three arcs. I really enjoyed this novel, I enjoyed the individual worlds and also even more so the relationship between Rong Yu and Yan Zhao over time. I love doomed cycles and defying fate and overcoming the odds 👍👍👍 I just wish the extra (chapter 117) was translated too ...... As it is it stops abruptly and it literally made me yell while on call with my friends 🥲 Still really worth it.

How was the translation? Meh, fine. Mild typos, Pronouns got swapped more than a few times, some odd MTL sentences were left in without editing them into something more coherent. The chapter 32->33, 65->66 pagination was broken and I had to get the next chapter from NU to continue. Some set terms weren't consistent through the novel (i.e. the eons Rong Yu mentions waiting through which are an actual saying that indicates sets of billions of years, Yan Zhao's title, the Pantheon Realm etc) and none of them were consistent with Evil God's translation, but that latter part is just me being nitpicky. Overall readable and didn't take away from the story but not the best and could have used more care.

Would I recommend this novel? Yes! Especially if you've read Evil God!

Would I reread this novel? Yes, but I definitely need a few years to forget everything.

Arc names, some rambling from me, and detailed triggers under the cut:

1) The Carp Leaps Over the Dragon Gate (Chi Yu/Gu Minghuai, Modern fish yao)

Torture, Drugs (aphrodisiac), Homophobia (past), Corporal punishment (in passing)

We have unlocked merman fish fucking 👍

2) Jail Time (Ji Qingyu/Fu Qianzhi, Interstellar)

Sexual harrassment, Rape (mention, not desribed), Necrophilia (mention), Gore, Eye gore, Torture (of prisoners), Rong Yu calls the bracelet mentally retarded

Not a fan of how the author depicts prison life here, it feels really tropey and focuses a lot on rape. Thankfully its not a big part of the plot because Rong Yu isn't a pushover, but eh. We can't all be winners and it Is a trope of these novels.

3) Pallbearer (Wen Yichu (Rong Yu)/Yan Zhao 🥺, Ancient Times+Ghosts)

Buried alive, Suicide, Murdering "useless" people for money, Use of the word "autistic" to mean speechless, Gore (mild), Starvation (mention),

I do find it quite funny how Rong Yu has more "interaction" with Wen Yichu this time around. Sorry, Wen Yichu, Rong Rong is just like this..

4) Cup of Misfortune (Ji Yu/Chu Zhuo, Imprisoned Concubine)

Torture, Rape and Sexual abuse (past, the original goods, attempt), Gore, Suicide (mention), Poison

5) Savior (Xi Wang (Rong Yu)/Yan Zhao, Zombie Apocalypse)

Gore, Zombie related cannibalism, Use of the word "autistic" to mean speechless

I also find it funny that I was calling Rong Yu "Rong Rong" before Yan Zhao started doing that hahaha

6) The Gold Withstands the Test of Fire (6666)

Suicide (mention)

AHHHHH DEAD. I'm dead it was so worth it.

Another random thing is that the translator has A/I art as their icon and that annoys me..
