i read the hunger games books multiple times over as a kid, and i didnt like katniss' ending at first, bc my hyperlexic ass could read the words long before i could REALLY Comprehend the concepts, but as soon as i got a firm understanding of aromanticism and trauma and and etcetc... i like it a lot now

i cannot understate how much i loved psycholonials. for just. so many reasons. i love when stories reward you for paying attention and understanding their themes. when Z explicitly referred to the sword of damocles at the end i screamed because even though it obviously made so much sense because that IS in large part what its about i couldnt shake the feeling until that moment that maybe i was just like. out of the loop and projecting the stuff *i* know about onto it.

i think the stuff it has to say about power and sensationalism and the relationship between the author, audience, and fiction is . really REALLY good and extremely potent. even if i still cant exactly put my feelings about it into words in a way that is coherent or makes me sound smart yet. i think the stuff it has to say about gender and related social systems was REALLY EXTREMELY good . it obviously wasnt the main focus but i found it genuinely compelling and it contributes to the whole EXTREMELY well. not to drag up old shit again but . holy fuck does hussie have some genuinely great and interesting things to say about gender. iykwim.

hussie remains a MASTER of her craft and reading this only justified that belief further. i know im like genetically predisposed to deeply enjoying all this but . fuck she just hit every fucking beat man!!! the character writing was fucking amazing. no notes. the music was also stellar clark powell knocks it out of the fucking park once again. the fucking flare remix scared the SHIT out of me though god that was so cool. the epilogue(i guess? i dont know what else to call it) almost had me in tears. i knew finishing the game that there was going to be . some kinda twist in trying to redo the ending but. good lord. that was extremely well done. hi zhen i love you zhen.

some words are common with US slang too because they share origins 😁 ain't that cool

there's a lot of influence from jamaican patois due to the history of british jamaicans in london for ex in words like "ting" or "mandem" or "wagwan" (hence why mle is sometimes referred to as "jafrican") and its not strange to hear "bomboclaat" or "bloodclaat" here either

in communities where there's muslims and arabs (especially in east london) you might hear arabic terms like "wallahi", "khalas" or "astagfirullah" (though people debate whether that's cultural appropriation or not)

south asians have also had an influence with words like "gora" or "ganja" though again this is largely area based and the impact of hinglish is also found a lot outside of london

some people have a mix of different dialects! i mainly alternate between mle and estuary (sometimes yorkshire don't ask it is very easy to pick up...)

you're not gonna hear every single word here all the time the usage varies throughout london. the way north and west londoners speak can be v different for example

uhhhh if you wanna learn properly just listen to some grime or sutn . listen to londoners speak!

QUICK HIGHLIGHTS: Eddie is canonically afraid of ducks, Eddie is not against Lucas being in basketball and is just worried about the kids driving each other away, Eddie jokingly flirts with male security guards

1. The jocks are SCARED of Eddie. They struggle to pick on him because they are afraid of him, and he can shut them up with ‘a look’

2. Steve picks Robin up from school to take her to her Family Video shifts so Dustin often tags along, and Stobin gossip the whole time

3. Robin is a BIG foreign films fan. She says art transcends language and Steve makes a joke that he struggles to care even when movies are in English. He took, and passed, French in high school

4. When teamed up and being serious, Steve and Robin give genuinely good advice out that is meaningful and ‘wise’. Theres a lot of fun banter with them in this second chapter, but they’re actually good at giving friendship advice to Dustin.

5. Patrick is genuinely nice, he welcomes Lucas in with open arms and a big wave- and its pissing me off having to hear all this “lucas was bad for leaving them for basketball” shit over again because he WASNT wrong and im annoyed the canon narrative tried to conclude that he was but anyway

6. Eddie makes a point of saying to not get the goths confused with the punks, and that youd learn that the hard way. He adresses his table as “ladies and gentlemen” even though there are no ladies… ‘as far as dustin can tell’

7. Unnamed freak is now apparently named Doug. Gareth is a thief, Jeff is a druid, ‘Doug’ is a barbarian. Mike is a D&D purist and thinks the expansions are pointless but lies to try and impress hellfire

8. FINALLY some outside canon acknowledgment that MIKE is the dm.

Eddie and Mike are described as having that DM gene that makes them captivating storytellers, Mike recounts a campaign to the hellfire table who listen on intently

9. Mike makes the pun “and he said ‘Beholder? I hardly Know’er!’” And the table of absolute dweebs laugh their heads off. Although Dustin is enjoying himself a lot, he thinks it would be better with Lucas

10. Eddies walkman is broken, and states he’d rather listen to Madonna that just silence when Gareth makes a joke.

Dustin offers to fix it and Eddie goes “no thats okay I got it” before repeatedly slamming it against the table.

11. Dustin and Eddie abusive dad bonding time. Dustin tells a story about how he took apart a radio piece by piece, and when Eddie comments that his dad would have ‘beat his ass’ Dustin states that his dad wanted to, but his Moms immediate reaction was to sign him up for science camp.

He states that, even though its not cool to say, he thinks his mom is awesome. A few months after the incident she divorced Dustins dad and moved them back to Hawkins, where she grew up.

12. Eddie made Dustin a metal mixtape to thank him for fixing his amp, with the note “Because man cannot live on Weird Al alone - Eddie”

13. Robin is trying to hit Steve in the head with a paper football while sarcastically scolding him for calling Eddie a ‘freak’

She then accuses him of being jealous of Eddie before hitting Steve square in the forehead with a rubber band

14. Steve and Robin immediately jump to Lucas’ defence, Steve calling “bullshit” on even the possibility of Lucas doing something wrong here.

He says Lucas is dealing with his own things, trying to figure himself out past popularity.

15. Eddie and Jeff are in a screaming match over who the better guitarist is: Tony Iommi or Glenn Tipton, and he’s effectively crawling across the table to yell in Jeff’s face,

Dustin immediately nopes out of that and goes to ask Robin for help, who is talking to ~Vickie~

16. Robin is the mediator in the boys friendship issues and has convinced them to try trust falling to make up again,and demonstrates it with Steve

Shes actually good at it, the boys have a bittersweet bonding moment where they realise theyre all just afraid of being left behind

17. Tension is alleviated when Steve reveals his greatest fear is the cartoon Turbo Teen

19. Eddie seems to have a secret, undiscussable fear of ducks. He says their eyes are enough to cause psychic damage and Dustin nites he looks serious.

So…Eddie has a dark past with a duck

20. More bad dad bonding. Eddie says the only good thing his dad left him was a sense of where the speed traps on highways are, and he notes that Dustin doesn’t mention his dad much.

He cheated on Dustins mom, and now Dustin has pretty much no contact with him.

21. While reassuring Dustin, Eddie admits he is afraid before every single performance. He says he isnt brave, isnt facing his fear- all he knows is that he just loves music more than he is afraid of everything else.

Which makes the master of puppets scene so much worse

22. The nerds at the science fair are also scared of how Eddie looks lmao, people move aside and almost create a path for him and Dustin while looking at Eddie sceptically-

so my thinking about the golden riches of the akbadain ruins started from me seeing river gold (bits of gold in the river from broken down rocks above? type thing) and i was like ohhhh wait wait

and then read about gold quarries in sakha (yakutia) and turns out it barely was there in the end of 19th century and to the time of the soviet union started to pick up a bit

then i thought about the city called golden - Aldan (it's not known if it's from the gold or it just sounds similar and goes from the word fish in evenki language) that was built around golden deposits. and then i thought that is too real for my setting I'll go for something less... on the nose

in-game city of Monte d'Or was built on top of ruins in a span of almost two decades, so it could be interpolated into idk.. a small wooden town of workers (that work for themselves(?)) (side note i read some articles i found on hoogle scholar and one of them described the whole situation around the golden craze and i was not a fan of it! destroying the ecosystem around the deposits by digging through earth, leaving it all in piles and moving on, chopping down trees to use it for house heat, killing any animal, ANY animal to eat, and also crime with no regulation. in my au everything is fine! nah, i mean... lets be more... family friendly .... for my sanity ough i got reminded of humanity, oh nooooo... LOL maybe i can work with it, fuck it)

OK I GOT IT!!! In one of the stories Randall have heard and studied there is a mention of sparkly river bed in the southern lands or something like that. It could be more specific than that but we'll add it laters. So, basically, he wants to find it to have his own success without his Father's help (doesnt want to be a nepobaby, we respect that in the original, we can respect it here) and brings along his buddy pal Hershel and then they get LOST!!!! gdhdjd maybe, maybe not, maybe the story has clues to it like a pirate map, they do find it eventually and idk hes taken away by the current or a storm or rain, water disaster we love those here ahah (rivers ARE SCARY be careful please), Hersh gets back devastated and then search parties are sent by the father and it from here it could be pretty much how it is in the game

fast forward and now henry and angela are both sorta rule a small growing town yayyy (that is not ALDAN)

i think it fits nicely, or at least more than i anticipated. this is fun, im having fun

i found these photos on the web and first one is described as "A rich family of yakuts who own <something>" and i was like pointing at it and going yo wait. and then i lost the image and now i found it after drawing the inspired image lolol. -I could go into a whole rant abt how this ending could possibly hint to all the cast being dead, and how this ending is a sort of recreation of Gangle's death, but I'm not sure goose would do that. It's a plausible theory after this episode, but i don't think the "They're all dead and living in a digital purgatory" theory fits the themes of the show well.

-Gangle chooses to be honest, even when faced with possible consequences.

god. homura grabbing madoka at the end of rebellion was such a powerful moment. what a good fuckin movie.

and yknow what since im here talking about it and forgot to hit post, here's my thing, right? so everyone in the anglosphere talks about pmmm like madoka's godhood is an existence of pure suffering. she must be miserable. she was *forced* to make this choice and she hates what she's become and she regrets it and thats why homura is Right Actually to tear her from heaven. and ive said it before but it just has never sat right with me. thats not how the show portrays it. thats not how madoka talks about it. thats not how sayaka and nagisa as her angels talk about it. it is always shown to be a good thing. a sacrifice, yes! but not one she *regrets*. she made her wish with her whole heart because she wanted to save not just homura but all her friends and every other magical girl who ever lived. the whole crux of the show, the question they ask the whole time, is 'what's a wish thats worth trading your soul for?' and that's madokas answer! saving everybody! and even though we view this wish through homura's eyes, and we see how much *homura* suffers because of it, you can't say she was wrong to make it! she's at peace, she no longer suffers from her lack of self-esteem, she loves homura and everyone else *so* deeply and she understands what they all went through, and shes just. shes fulfilled as a person! and this is like, completely in line with the buddhist themes of the show that we all miss because we're culturally extremely christian and have little frame of reference through which to recognize themes prominent in other religions without studying them.

but you know who *does* think its bad? homura, obviously. homura is a girl twisted with grief and guilt and self-hatred. she shouldve been able to save madoka on her own! madoka shouldnt have needed to make that sacrifice and leave her behind! all she ever wanted to do was be with her, and through so many timelines, thats all madoka wanted as well! human beings always tend to interpret events through their own personal lens, and homura projects her pain onto madoka because she cant bear it otherwise. if madoka leaving hurt her this badly, then surely it has to be hurting madoka, as well? it was a sacrifice made for the greater good, and it was madoka's will, so she can't go against it, but... what if it *wasnt* madoka's will? what if she *didn't* want to make that sacrifice? it would be fine, then, right? to undo everything. to bring her back home.

and this is why the scene in the field of flowers is so important! because she tells madoka about how terrible her "dream" was, that madoka had left and gone far away and she could never see her again. and madoka, who *we* as the audience rewatching the movie for the 8th time know is a version of madoka who's had her memories sealed away, leaving her as effectively a first-timeline magical girl excited to fight with her friends but lacking confidence and self-esteem, THIS madoka tells homura that there's no *way* she could ever do that! she wouldn't have the courage to leave all her friends behind! that's not a choice she could ever make! and of *course* she would say that! she lacks the painful experiences and overwhelming karmic destiny that made her choice so easy! but homura doesnt know this! and neither does a first-time viewer! so suddenly madoka's sacrifice *couldn't* have been her true will. suddenly madoka is a prisoner of a fate she couldn't refuse, and she has to be *saved*, whether she wants to be or not. and on some level, homura understands that she doesnt want this. she looks into the face of god, full of a love for her more powerful than anything she's ever seen, and sees her own love is selfish and twisted and dirty in comparison. but she's already made her decision. of *course* she'd call herself the devil for this.

and then, of course, in the ending sequence, we can see madoka reject her regained humanity. it doesnt feel right. she should have a different form. she should be something *more*. homura realises, i believe, in that moment that she's made a terrible mistake. she's rejected the will of god in her naive ignorance. but she's already the devil, right? its so easy to decide to be the enemy of god when youre already evil, and the alternative is going back to that tortured existence without her. so one day they'll become enemies. to protect this life, she'll stand against anyone who threatens it, even madoka herself.

i believe it was mentioned before in an interview that the events of rebellion were, in fact, the best possible outcome. and i think a lot of people think that means homura did the right thing, and saved madoka from a torturous fate worse than death. but i think she merely stumbled into the best outcome, because the alternative was allowing the incubators to observe, understand, and eventually *control* madoka. its cosmically necessary for the fate of all magical girls that madoka is torn to pieces in the name of love. but it sure as hell wasn't her wish.

(AND in a place where i think would have been the ONLY good place to put nothing there/dont change it- or have it bee a secret entrance into the castle you can find on your own .. if the castle was actually like a dungeon and inaccessible for the most time ...) makes even less sense if it was built before link disappeared bc wh- .. whats its purpose anyway? the calamity is gone and instead of rebuilding castle town or soemthing nearby you put the words least sensical spypost right at the front of the castle thats a dead dirty lump of rock (yes i know zelda mentions soemthing of the miasma being active or whatever but that changes nothing abotu how little sense thing darn thing makes to me .. ) (i will stand by my idea of rebuilding the ranch ruins into a little hub and tavern instead, a spypost can be a smaller thing higher up but that as a little new town and maybe with my personal little wish of having all your horses run around a ranch, of course its got little defense, this is a ranch and the calamity was gone and its not that close to the castle, its also rather in the middle of the map and a bigger wider area would be hard to miss, plus its using an old neat reference and making something meaningful out of it, soemthing this game is allergic to im- *breathes in* fine.)

death mountain, i assumed at least, cooled down with the cataclysm (.. way too serious sounding for .. largely just some pebbles falling from the sky) and it seems like theres alot of stuff built on there and even grass growing and everything, like its been that way for a long time, yunobo being dumbified by brainwash mask and the things he does also dont feel like they happen in a day or two

the other regions on the other hand ... ignoring how mcuh of a non issue the rito problem is (the oooooh blizzard doesnt even stop them from flying ..... its not freezing them either bc none of them wear any more clothes and just do business as usual .. but then food is supposed to be a problem? .... you .. you can fly ..... ... why wasnt the boss then a monster that eats everything of the region or soemthing ... a big ol worm razing entire forest, or .. you know, make the blizzard an actual problem, winds so strong you cant fly, temperature so low you freeze immediately without special armor), are just .. dealing with it themselves? and dont seem to even seek out the help of anyone else? like it literally just happend?

but then theres entire sonau research teams and people studying it but .. all the shit started to appear with the cataclysm ... so???? though zelda at the start talks about it like its been a well known every day life fact that the acnient stupid furry first king of gods holy lands was called rauru and he was a sonau (WHICH NO ONE KNEW ANYTHIGN ABOUT THE LITERAL ONYL THING KNOWN WAS THE ARMOR SET IN BOTW THAT ALSO DOESNT MATCH ANYTHING AT ALL TOTK SONAU) and his fridge wife was sonia like its just written in every history book and still somehow accurate (might i remind you its been MORE than TEN THOUSAND YEARS sicne then and nothign was known of them in botw) while no one remembers link from a 100 years ago, nor from 6 years ago, but then remembered the champions for the 100 year botw gap and then promptly forgot about them in totk (it really feels like that) BUT THEN you got kids in school that dont fking believe the calamity happend (which was defeated just like 6 years before that)

then again .... theres not a single soul on the sky islands, despite there, NOW more than ever, multiple ways to get up there, are you telling me everyones obsessed with the stupid sonau shit and then no one even tries to go up there??? arguing that it wasnt accessible until noodle zelda broke through the clouds at the end of the tutorial doesnt work bc those ruins already fell down, people must have known and no one even tried?? also they can go up there after it go opened up?? plus clearly the ruins were able to fall through also ... what even determines whether an island falls down or not? why do some fall when tHe dEmON kInG wakes up? you see it with those green sonau magic stuff but like .... who ... did that, both rauru and mineru were dead when zelda noodlefied herself and there everything was STILL on the ground? the only magical thing the constructs do is use fuse sometimes i dont think they can lift up all that shit .. clearly is wasnt rauru either bc he acts surprised about it being up here, but why does it falter when big il ganon man wakes up? mineru after the weird static non battle with ganondorf wasnt doing so hot and we have no idea how much time passed between that and the moment she goes into the purah pad (i could be annoying about that as well) either

in taburasa (tarrey town) they do all that shit with the sonau stuff, implying theres enough time that passed to make people tinker with it too so ?(though i still hate that bc its so .. shouldnt you of all people be scared of more techy bs materializing when the whole calamity is like back almost exactly like it was before? not even suspicious? no? you dont even know how it works yet everyone trying to work with it like there isnt anythign better to do??)

like with everything in this game it keeps contradicting itself, the inconsistency makes me want to rip my hair out anytime i try to make sense of it

In this discduo timeline pastebin i read, you can see tommy did care about dream for a very long time even while his friends were trying to convince him that dream was bad, he continued to praise dream and had plans to meet him irl. It wasnt until june july 2023 when tommy started believing the lies his friends and fans kept telling him and thays when he banned the words dream and discduo in his chat and said that he didnt wanna go all the way to florida. I think he genuinly thinks dream wronged him based on his body language in the podcast and how he dissocoates, like tommy now percieves all his past positive interactions with dream as a negative and jack, harry, and tommys fanbase fed into that, but he also is lying about dream with other things. And i mean he could be faking that body language to garner sympathy Im not entirely sure. Im just looking at the nuance here. He knows dream or at least he did. He used to check up on him all the time and he knew how bad dreams mental health was, but he still lies and claims dreams apathetic and thinks dream cant take accountability and thinks dream doesnt care about him when dream has always cared. I can send you that pastebin if u want, u can see the decline in where tommy starts turning against dream its aroundn the time where he and harry got closer. But before that, he saw dream as this brilliant helpful guy and referred to him as a friend, even in the past referred to him as closer than a brother. He cared for dream at some point for a long time, then ditched him and betrayed him. Also dream refers to tommy as emotional, and i can see how someone so sensitive can interpret a long dm as an attack, and apparently he did explain his issue to dream before but it never got resolved or tommys lying about that too. I dont doubt that he is doing a lot of this to get attention, but i do think some feelings could be genuine despite it logically not adding up. I can see how someone could interpret dreams dms in a stressful way. But the fact tommy even gave a shit about dream in the past to begin with makes this worse, because the way i see it, if someone close to me turned on me i would be a lot more hurt by that than if someone i was only colleagues with turned on me.

Was gonna chrck back on their past interactions to see if i can spot anything shady on tommys part if yk what i mean even if this is gonna make me sad. One of my co workers offered to do a watchparty💀

(I should preface this by saying I have not yet watched the podcast, because at the moment I’m little too triggered to even give a shit about what Tommy has to say to be honest. I don’t really see what defense or reasoning you could possibly have for calling anyone, nonetheless your past friend a “proper movie villain” while accusing him of things that aren’t true, knowing the consequences. I mean I just don’t think people have really let that fact truly sink he, Tommy publicly compared Dream to Darth Vader, Bane, The Joker, Voldemort…etc mass murderers. Just think about that for a second. That’s not okay. People are out there comparing him to Hitler and talking about brutal ways to kill him, a go fund me to kill Dream has started. I don’t think there is a damn thing Tommy can say Dream did to excuse that shit, he will get no sympathy from me. Even if Dream physically abused him, which ain’t true since they’ve never met, Dream still shouldn’t be compared to freaking Hannibal.)

Even so, as I have said in some of my past posts on the matter, I do think perhaps Tommy was hurt by something that happened with Dream in the past and in retrospect realized perhaps things weren’t as good as he thought. Which happens, sometimes we look back on things and are like - hey wait a minute that wasn’t okay and that hurt. But that doesn’t make that person a shit person.

The example I believe I previously talked about was my first kiss, but to give another example, a guy I was good friends with freshman year of college was very handsy and I didn’t really realize in the moment how I felt about it or that he was pushing boundaries he shouldn’t. At first I didn’t think much of it. I was naive and autistic and didn’t really know better, and he was too. He didn’t have sisters, hell he thought woman were always making milk lol. In other words, we were both dumb. And looking back he did a lot of things that really were not okay, but once I came to realize and set boundaries he respected them. In fact, we are still kinda friends today, we’re even roomates for a bit after I graduate back in 2023. So, suffice to say, sometimes people can do shitty things or even things that you realize later were not okay, or even things that traumatize you, but that doesn’t make that person shitty. Especially if you didn’t call it out in the moment. This is what I mean by giving Dream the benefit of the doubt, sure I could perceive my friend as manipulative and taking advantage of naivety or whatever, or I recognize that he really just doesn’t know better. Now when you tell someone to stop and then they continue (depending on what it is because ya know old habits die hard or like my adhd is gonna try my hardest but I will inevitably skews up pronouns - just like I screw up everyone’s pronouns) now you’ve entered into the malicious and intentional area.

Bringing it back to Dream, Tommy was upset and told him to stop texting his mother, so Dream apologized to both and stopped. It becomes harassment and malicious if Dream continued over and over to do it, but he didn’t. This is why Dream is frustrated because he doesn’t know what behavior is upsetting people, and in his heart that’s not what he wants to do, but if people don’t tell him how is he meant to improve. At the end of the day, he doesn’t want to offend anyone or hurt someone, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done so though as these things happen, nobody is perfect.

So I think maybe Tommy was hurt, maybe it was in retrospect looking back, maybe it was friends pointing things out and were like - hey that’s fucked up that happened. Maybe some of that hurt is genuine. And maybe you could make the case that that hurt has spurred him to take revenge and ruin Dream in whatever way it takes. So the jokes and lies are just part of his lashing out because he feels wronged.

However, there is also a case to be made that given Tommy’s history as pointed out by Dream with Logan Paul, maybe it was all an act. Maybe he was using Dream from the start and Dream being the naive, good hearted, autistic guy made an easy target. Maybe he only pretended to be good friends, sure Dream doesn’t have anything to gain from being Tommy’s friend but that doesn’t go both ways. Tommy has a lot to gain from being Dream’s friend, but as the tides turned he had a lot to lose by being Dream’s friend and it was easier to switch sides not that there was no incentive, as Dream pointed out as the USMP fell through so did Tommy switch sides. Once he couldn’t gain clout for being on Dream’s side but being against Dream, he switches. Because a lot of his audience has always been against Dream, struggling to tell the difference between character and person and as is human nature, instinctively hating an autistic person. That has been the case for ages, Tommy could have given into his audience for ages but even during the allegations height he still did that dsmp finale and posted that picture on Twitter (which he got a lot of hate for)…

All I’m saying, is even the people who have wronged me, even the person who pushed me to almost kill myself, I wouldn’t wish death or harassment upon them. I wouldn’t do the shit Tommy has pulled, because there was a time when we were friends. There were times when they were good to me. And maybe that makes me an exception to the rule, that people would be so cruel to the people they once called friends, but I couldn’t and that’s what makes me question Tommy’s sincerity and capacity for empathy…

Though perhaps both can be true.

was gonna add this in the tags of a post but it got really long and i was like ok lemme just make a separate post to be pretentious on. but i think the urge to separate character action from cc action in mcyt fanwork is the kneejerk reaction to "what if this is rpf"... its a taboo to talk about rpf or write rpf (in general but especially in mcyt fan space) so we in fandom tend to be very stringent about, like, fuck, i dunno. the platonic ideal of OOC vs IC. im not going to make broad claims about the historic relationship of mcyt fanwork to rpf because well its really late at night and thats the sort of conjecture reserved for annoying my friends in dms. but it seems apparent to me that the birth of even the terms c! and cc! were due to wanting to distinguish ethical fanwork from non-ethical fanwork.

theres a few layers and axises to consider the ethicality of fanwork (of which i will consider fanfic in this post because i am foremost a fanfic writer). a good example to start, when we discard the c! vs cc! labels, and start to look objectively at work, is the level at which a fanwork becomes unethical. we look at the surroundings of the fic --

are they in minecraft? does the work make reference to them doing minecraft things? how is, say, movement or inventory or block shape and placement described how realistic is the minecraft world when compared to our real world? does it seem like a general fantasy setting?

is it acceptable to put the subjects into a fantasy setting? a high sci fi setting? a superhero au? what about an au which elaborates on existing political structures alluded to in canon?

what about a modern au, no powers? does, for example, the description of mumbo having a mustache or tango having hair suffice as distinction enough? what about modern aus where they live in real life cities? what about historic aus? is 1800s london more acceptable than 2020s london?

what about names? generally it is agreed that grian should not be called charles in a fic for it to be considered referring to the character, and not the CC. is that distinction meaningful when we are interacting with the simulacra of grian? what about jimmy? is it enough of a distinction to call him jimmy solidarity? what about calling philza phil? is that acceptable?

what should be considered canon to that setting? does "off camera" count as in character? (this is where i think the lines start to blur a bit for people) what if characteristics that are exclusive to the "real person" are given to the subject of fiction (ie. scar's wheelchair or other aids) (this is the point where i'm lamenting the lack of ability to add footnotes to a tumblr post)

what is the breaking point for all of these ethical considerations? this is something that must be present when considering fanwork from the model of c/cc divide. if one were to question the necessity of the existence of that divide, what changes (negative or positive) does that bring to the community? in art, fic, meta, crit, etc.? do we value the artist's opinion, their intent, over the art itself? i said i wasnt gonna bring up barthes in a tumblr post but the invention of the author as supreme truth maker can only hurt the growth of art. i think that's double edged here. the artist both has the autonomy to decide what is ethical to create but the audience also has the freedom to decide what is ethical in.... fandom. i just had to stop myself writing society, and write fandom. but yeah. food for thought. i dont really have a good way to end this uh heres a picture of my cats

AHHHH sorry ive been so busy! Just got to see my mom for the first time in half a year and christmas had me running around like a chicken without a head 😭😭 heres the Savanaclaw boys Genshin edition!

Leona just might be the laziest yet the most cunning member of the Children of Echoes! Hardly a time the other members of the tribe dont see him lounging about on the surface, soaking in the sun! Yet he somehow always stays on point with his work and skills.

I thought Geo suited him perfectly and was the closest reference to his unique magic as a vision! And Polearm because its similar to the main choice of weapon in the Sunset Savannah ! I dont imagine hes related to the chief or anything but perhaps his family is a long line of warriors who have held ancient names of especially famous fighters but Leona perhaps didnt get one? So hes ostracized from his family despite his hard work and dedication growing up. I like to think he actually gives Kachina tips on her training, part of him is jealous that she has an ancient name yet is so meek but he sees how people treat her regardless and grows a soft spot for her!

Also totally hangs out with Xilonen, its the law now, they have to be besties. I wrote somewhere (where ever those notes are please return to me 😭😭) that if Mualani thinks hes being too rough and mean eith Kachina that she'll dump water on him- good luck Leona!

Ruggie i made a member of the Scions of the Canopy! It feels pretty fitting in my opinion? Theyre all about thrills and action over there, Id imagine Ruggies slick nature and jack of all trades talent would be perfect for them!

Hes pretty easy going but that doesnt mean he wont try to swindle a traveller or two for some money or food while they travel to the city- ah but leave it to Kinich! He'll make sure to set him straight whether he likes it or not. Those two grew up together after all! Now i wasnt sure why, but Pyro sword felt perfect for him! Does he have an ancient name? I havent decided yet, if he does itd make for an interesting dynamic between him and Leona? 🤔 If he didnt then theyd both be two pouty babies about it XD

Lastly, Jack! Who if you mightve noticed ISNT from Natlan! Instead I chose to reference his childhood home (didnt do that for everyone ofc- but its fine-) and I made him from Snezchnaya instead!

Oh and yes, he is a fatui member! He resides under Capitanos command though which is how he finds himself in Natlan for the mean time! The Captain's Blood Hound is what they call him amongst the troops. Fiercely loyal and strong to boot! No matter what Capitano chooses to do with his mission, if he sticks to the Tsaritsa or trades sides for his homeland, Jack will follow him without a moments hesitation. Definitely a soldier the others look up to! Some say theyve seen him spar almost on the same level as a certain Harbinger near the same age as him! Or that he is long time friends with the late La Signora's right hand, Vil (*wink wink* just a small sneak there for you guys to look forward to-)

Safe to say he quickly becomes a legend among the regular fatui soldiers. Same as Ruggie, I went with a vibe and his vibe said Cryo Claymore! Claymore for such an obvious reason- cryo itself tends to be in relation to family and loyalty (if you squint-) so it clicked in my brain, it could add to possible backstory you might hear whenever i get to his final copy!

nuts reading in jp 9 - introduction scenes of legato, rem.

disclaimer: im about to finish a bottle of soju.

so im probably not the best or most articulate when it comes to interpreting characters. but here goes. things that caught my eye etc etc.

legato

for legato, the jp version seems to use words that really hones in on how vindictive/creepy he is. also he speaks like an evil demon lord's henchman in some JRPG game.

OH and DH's en version appropriately takes all of that and does a pretty good job overall imo. he just speaks like that in tone.

except for 1 specific phrase.

this phrase that carries a degree of his projection from his character. or even some implications about knives's train of thought. in the left most bubble here, he actually says

あの方の10分の1でも地獄を味わうがいい (may you) Taste even a tenth of the hell you've put him through.

him in this case being knives. he refers to him with a very respectful, elevating He by using "あの方 ano kata". we know that knives ate the angel gun blast which must have been owie, but also that vash's defiance causes knives a lot of irritation.

this then paints knives as this sociopath if we believe that he told legato about their history, bc hes telling it and slamming vash's opinions/feelings/autonomy into the trash. (and also overriding his sisters autonomy later in trimax)

alternatively, this also paints legato as this guy who might be projecting his own hell onto knives in hindsight and also kinda tossing his god-king's feelings into the trash.

they're both terrible for each other in their current state. smh if they played Plate Up they'd game over on the very first day.

rem's isolation

in OH and DH's en version, rem talks about the life on the ship with vash.

he asks here why are the people asleep and that the ship is too quiet. and then:

she uses "We" and refers to her job being shared with others. which is correct in the overall world building side of things.

however, the jp version sounds a lot lonelier (as if it wasnt enough). left most bubble again:

さしずめ私はその"種"の管理人という所ね You could call me the caretaker of these seeds.

she uses the singular 私 I. not 私たち we.

so she is saying that shes very much alone. incredibly, dreadfully alone.

there's an added layer of her using the singular I in this scene. that she doesnt consider vash and knives to be sharing her job. there's no "We" when it comes to that, she's shouldering the important job and not sharing the burden with... well, kids.

while responsible of her, that there is in fact a degree of distance between vash and rem, whether vash realizes it or not.

theres this super compounded mass of depression and isolation in this scene, it feels like.

i think this aspect of her was taken to heart by vash and inherited. when he later stands in another cold sleep chamber surrounded by people, he doesnt share this burden of watching with any of them

not with milly, meryl or wolfwood. even though they are right there.

You're absolutely not alone!! And you can call me Doe, Im the anon from the last ask. Gender identity is weirdddd to try and figure out. Ive gone w the label genderqueer for the most part, but still thought of myself as a cis girl because deep down since I didnt have dysphoria about being referred to as a girl, I didnt feel like I was *really* trans.

The only time Ive ever felt something that couldve been gender euphoria was when I cut my hair in a pixie cut, and people began mistaking me for a boy. It wasnt the fact that they thought I was a boy that made me happy, rather the confusion when they were unsure on if to call me a boy or a girl. That made me real happy. I shrugged it off, obviously, because if I didn't want to be seen as a boy, then that didnt mean anything, but Ive been told gender euphoria for non binary people, as in anyone that is not a binary trans woman or trans man, can be different from the gender euphoria usually discussed by binary trans people.

I dunno if this helps in any way, I myself dont really know what gives me gender euphoria, but as Ive become more accepting of my identity as trans, as in simply not a cis girl, people perceiving me as one started to bother me. Nothing girl related really bothers me or makes me uncomfortable, but the idea that others assume I am a cis girl feels uncomfortable now. Not bc Im not a girl, atleast partially I am, but it's just being perceived as one I think.

But it doesn't bother me that much I think, I dont know if Im downplaying it but it's certainly not a big sign of dysphoria as others are. And in regards to my body, most of the time I feel neutral about it, w occasionally not wanting to have a body at all/being perceived in any way so that doesnt give me clues.

hmmm i always have a bit of trouble remembering how i used to feel about things when im not really.. in the moment? so that’s why i made this blog to start keeping track. so it is all there for me to reference. so it’s tough to know if being perceived as a girl upsets me…

i think i often don’t notice it? sometimes i get a vague feeling but im not sure if its positive or negative or just… neutral.

idk how being perceived as a boy would make me feel. i haven’t been for a long time. it used to make me feel really good about myself for a couple years. eventually it started to feel weird, so i stopped presenting that way.

the body thing is so real… i feel like im. the weird inverse of that. i do feel fairly neutral-positive, never really outright negative, about my body, but i sometimes feel like i don’t really have a connection with it because it is separate from my mind, which is where i live basically. idk i think that’s probably fairly normal. i don’t walk around just not feeling real or being unsure if i exist… its more of a… huh, that’s me. i’m a person, walking around. etc. it’s like i feel my body exists but it’s kinda detached or airy a little bit. weird!! idk. i don’t think that’s a gender thing though.

im gonna put my thoughts under the cut so theres no spoilers if you havent seen it already (BUT GO WATCH THEM NOW PLEASE !!!) + its gonna be LONG so BEAR WITH ME

ok, so i have MANY thoughts so sorry if none of this is coherent 😭 (this is not in chronological order of when the questions were asked, just me spewing out my totally normal thoughts about this interview so apologies for that)

starting off:

THE BABY IS SHERMIE?!?!?!? IM SO SO GLAD WE FINALLY HAVE CONFIRMATION WE CAN FINALLY LEAVE THIS TO REST !! I WAS RIGHT THOUGH SO HA !!! ACTUALLY SCREAMING !! TIMELINE BE DAMNED (also another thanks to hana, your timeline video is genuinely awesome. i never shut up about it. ever. any time i talk to my friends abt gf and i need to refer to the timeline i go: "IN HANA'S VIDEO-") anyways, i do understand it was a last minute decision on the writer's part of "oh. dipper and mabel need a grandfather, its not ford, and its sure as FUCK not gonna be stan sooo... third brother?" and i do understand alex being like, "oh, this is about ford and stan only having eachother" so i think making shermie younger was a GOOD THING? like, stan and ford had 18 years of just them so shermie wasnt in the picture, so stan and ford technically grew up on their own so ig it works? also, when stan got kicked out, he never got to see shermie grow up, probably only saw him at events when he had to pretend to be ford (post-1983) and as for ford himself, he was too busy in college and gravity falls to really visit the family so... it works! (despite everything)

that aside, lets talk about THE CRUMBS??? like i have some quotes here because i have a LOT to say:

ford distracting himself with things instead of facing his problems. probably something he had to do a lot, especially with his time in the multiverse. but it really hurts because i can imagine in the 60s, they never had any great coping mechanisms? so i can assume ford was just conditioned to distract himself from stuff so he never learned how to deal with things. and i KNOW in the journal hes like "i meditate!" and im sure that does help somewhat, but it doesnt address the issue itself soooo... sorry ford, but you cant just breathe your way out of everything

and alex saying mcgucket is thinking like, "oh i gotta be a better partner" is HEART SHATTERING like the whole talk about fiddleford being "the building guy" who is kind of just there to make machines and please ford. its honestly so heartbreaking because fiddleford loves ford so much he'd leave his wife and child to go to absolute nowhere, oregon and the fact ford is too arrogant to see fiddlefords admiration and overall love for him its just IUIUAHHAS

and i do wanna say, i KNOW bill played a big part in this, by stroking fords ego and buttering him up with his kind words because he knew exactly what ford wanted to hear and that really affected how ford and fidds' relationship was like but THATS A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER TIME. all i know is that ford isnt entirely to blame, but he still is a massive arrogant asshole and he wasnt the best person to fidds at times (love him tho <3)

but im actually so happy because this interview sheds SO much light onto FORD bcs we BARELY got to know him, and hearing it from MR HIRSCH HIMSELF is just so good because we KNOW its a reliable source because its coming from ALEX YK??? like he wrote ford so he probably knows "oh yeah, that man is guilt-ridden as FUCK" and im so glad we get some crumbs of this guy i cant get enough of him !!! ok hey guys i just finished watching tadc ep 5 and like ohh my god so im like just gonna yap abt it cuz why not

ok one thing i really did like at the beginning of the episode when they get back from the adventure and there like soaked i really like how you could really like *see* the water like it felt kinda hyper realistic??? i thought that was kinda cool

no and then jax like running on all fours and like freaking chomping gangle as a rhino like hello??? also the way when jax shot the rhino it just fell T^T like just the way it feel was so like mobile game add coded.

and then we have the presidential adventure where like why???? why are we turning pomni into a president?? pomni for president 2029 canon. no OKOKOK this is just me kinda stating the obvious but like i really do feel like jax is just trying to befriend pomni bc his "old friend" is gone which is probably the dude whos door was crossed out in the intermission. like its kinda more and more prevalent as the episode goes on like hes less of an asshole to pomni. and then like ragatha being warry of like like she thinks jax is kinda demonitizing her?? or like using pomni maybe, and then the part where jax says that HE feels like ragathas being nice to just use people. and it sounds like hes talking from experience. it sounds like there BOTH talking from experience whenever they call eachother out jax and ragatha argument when??

sorry for the side tangent lol ok the ANIME SEGMENT WAS ACTUALLY SO LIKE FREAKING SILLY LIKE I LOVE HOW THE EYES WERE DRAWN??? AND THEN THE "not as embarassing when gangle took an anime figure" LIKE THE FIGURE THING COMING UP AGAIN GANGLE NO??? what the jar incident T^T

the star gazing part i think was one of my favorites like that has to be a reference to the outtro. and jax saying "do you think gangle can be happy?" THAT WAS SO OUT OF POCKET??? and then pomni after that saying "i thought you didnt care" and jax was ABOUT to defend himself like he was ABOUT to say "no i do but..." or smth like that but then he just??? gives up???

another side tangent lol i feel like jax and ragatha are like polar opposites. ragatha for what ever reason never likes being negative so shes always positive. jax is doesnt like being nice for whatever reason so hes an ass, "whatever reason" probably being a defense mechanism for both jax and ragatha. i feel like they could really balance eachother out if they werent constantly arguing.

also the part where jax claims that gangle likes when hes mean to her like call back to that one clip of michael kovach and marrisa lenti talking as jax and gangle on stream and jax goes like "you like it when im mean to you" and gangle says "thats besides the point". i feel like if jax wasnt an asshole he and gangle would be really good friends. like he helped find a for her genuinely what happened to him that made him be mean because i dont think jax *now* would help someone this their name. no ok when ragatha mentioned him not having a friend anymore i like actually screamed and shed a few tears like excuse me? the way jax just like looked so angry??? like??? and ragatha trying to frantically apologize WHAT HAPPENED??? on a lighter note tho jax saying his ears and tail are like peak masculinity and then him chasing his non existent tail. i do beilive him when he said he had a tail so maybe it just like ran away or smth idk. and the moon and Caine interacting like like girl give the moon some attention for once :P

ok whats next the intermission. the intermission was beautiful. i loved it. 10/10 would watch again

ok and when they were at a bar and zooble mentioned like being a tatoo artist and a bartender?? idc what jax says zooble genuinely seems like a cool person i love them <3 and i like how like a few of them had a youtube channel like i love that. i would 100% subscribe. and then theres the part where jax said "remember when ragatha got high at mcdonals and told gangle to kill herself" i was TAKEN ABACK HELLO? i screamed again this episode made me scream alot ik jax is an asshole but who says this???? and then ragatha just venting abt her mother and being awkward and trying to change the subject like

ok ragatha genuinely is a nice character but she has this kind of awkwardness and idk like the way not just jax calls her out but gangle did so like once kinda gives off that maybe there is smth sinister, especially whenever jax calls her out he seems genuine. again with them kinda being polar opposites. ragathas nice but you can tell theres smth sinister behind it and jax is a jerk but you can tell theres like a reason for it and he secretly does care abt everyone. this isnt me antagonizing ragatha/defending jax i think we should hold jax accountable bc even if its a weird coping mechinism thats not justified and even if its set up to look like ragathas fake i feel like we dont know enought information to point fingers at her. ANOTHER SIDE TANGENT AUGH ok this is the last one i PROMISE

i enjoyed eveyones backstories i thought it was nice to see everyone just kinda talk abt themselves. sorry im not going into detail ive been typing for like half an hour and im getting tired anyways onto the baseball part

i liked the evil guys i thought they were all very like vivid. ragaths and pomnis especially rags was very exaggerated and pomnis evil versoin idk she was just kinda chill ig. AND THEN EVIL JAX WITH THE ANIME VOICE "hey guys i hope we all have a fun game no matter who ends up winning!" it just reminded me of 2020 alt tiktok with the hand signs and all i can *hear* micheal using the hand signs while recording evil jax i can HEAR IT IN HIS VOICE. ok and then jax in a maid dress i like how even kinger wanted to see him in a dress like they dont interact alot a kinger wants to see it lol. and then pomni not wanting to see it, again with them kinda becoming friends like shes still mad at jax for *everything* but she doesnt hate him as much as the others cuz they do end up bonding here and there. and then the way jax was like absolutly engraged with the dress and zooble going "ive never seen you this angry" like sure it could just be the dress but i genuinely think theres like a little smth behind why jax hates the dress so much maybe. also like jax genuine emotion but like differently then before. before when he was acting more genuine it was just him jokingly glorifying himself of like just reacting somewhere in the middle like not a jerk but not nice just in the middle. we dont really see him expression a genuine negative emotion, or like an emotion he could be judged for if he displayed it. sure hes negative towards everyone but you can tell hes just messing with them, even if it has gotten to the point where its just harmful and straight annoying to everyone. and then evil pomnis and jax interacting i think thats kinda nice like wow i like their friendship even if it lasted for like 10 minutes max. and then the small arugment between jax and ragatha and ragatha apologies for bring up his old friend and the way his pupils *dilate* like his eyes go big likes he blanking like what was that abt??? and then just him biting evil jax. jax is a biter he likes biting stuff. that is my new headcanon which is kinda partially canon. he likes biting things. i feel like he would own one of those necklaces that just have like a plastic shard shaped thing thats specifically made for biting i think he would benefit from that.

and then the last things i need to say when jax is like walking away with pomni like his posture?? why is he like crouching what is the reason for this??? and then the random manikin what was this what is this abt what does this mean i need answered
