I loving that small things ask!

Could you tell me a small thing you love from Apollo?

My favorite small detail from Apollo is something that happened accidentally.

When I decided to make Chairman Meow, Magnus' daemon, I wanted him to have a name that was only for Magnus and wanted it to be the Indonesian word for "protector" (Pelindung). It felt like something child!Magnus would call Chairman Meow as Chairman Meow protected him for quite some time when he was a kid and out on the streets. It also would explain the Chairman Meow name, because having that be his name from the get-go makes no sense.

So, while Chairman Meow is the name everyone knows him by, Pelindung is for Magnus only when he's feeling vulnerable or when he's trying to stop Chairman Meow from chomping down on someone who's annoying him.

After choosing the name, I remembered what Alexander means as a name and, out of curiosity, decided to check what Apollo means as a name. (Apollo was the first daemon name I came up with.) And well...

Meaning: Destroyer.

I did not do it on purpose, but I somehow, in a certain way, named Alec's daemon after Magnus and Magnus' after Alec. I love this tiny detail, even if I laughed myself silly when I realized what I did.

That is a very good question. I stumbled across Perpollo by "accident". I saw a fic on ao3 with this pairing, got curious and I read it. Turned out I started devouring every perpollo content I could find since then.

There are many things I like about Perpollo, tbh. I will try to speak about them in topics and then explain my reasoning. (This kinda reminds me of making a PowerPoint. XD)

Highlights the Greek Pantheon

PJO is a novel centered in Greek Mythology, but funny enough, it is not often Rick actually explores this world out of the surface level or with charicatures of the Gods playing its part. Today more often than not, I see Fanfic writers actually exploring more of real greek mythology, and introducing it in the fics and highlighting what is to be a god. To be divine. They explore more this relationship, and most part of the times, they do an awesome job. Especially in the time travels ones.

They adapt so well the historical part, and a lot of the complexities within the Olympian family. The Gods have more nuance. Sometimes it shows more of the "dark side" of the Gods, sometimes they just makes them more "divine". What Rick does not do. My only problem with it is the Zeus slander on purpose when he is not better nor worse than any other God within the myths. If Poseidon and Apollo deserves to be seen with nuance, why not Zeus? The King? That is personal, of course, especially for worshipping Him. But hey. Food for tought.

Sea Family

It is basically impossible to read a long perpollo fic without Poseidon and Percy's relationship being a part of it. We seriously lack any kind of relationship between Percy and Poseidon after PJO (Even if it is canonic Percy goes to Atlantis and the Queen bakes makes him cookies when he is there. Thank you, Rick). And honestly, I love it all the time. No matter if it is more centered in conflict, or in fluff. Poseidon being protective and in conflic is always a masterpiece.

We need more interactions between those two in matters of heart. And Perpollo gives me many ideas to how make it happen.

Oh. And how could I forget. Perpollo is an excelent way to introduce more of the Sea Family, such as Rhodes, Benthesykme, Kymopoleia, Triton, and there it goes. Especially if Percy ends up as a God within the narrative.

+ Funny enough, Helios once married Poseidon's daughter Rhode. But then - for a very long short history - he married another another ocean nymph called Perse. What quites makes me laugh about the entire irony of a another child of Poseidon falling in love with another sun god. And his son is called Percy. 😅

There is so much potential for drama, and this is just one of them.

Percy's ascencion might gives Percy a closure

Honestly. This one is a controversial take. People who talks with me for a long time knows my opinion on the fact I dont like how his story is going. I feel like it is going nowhere, and has no purpose. Not on how Rick's writing it, not since HoO and much less now on the Marketing Triology.

Nothing has really changed since Luke's death when the Gods promised to change. And where Rick is leading this story? Percy is bitter. Ok. But what is he gonna do about it? Nothing?

It seems for me the message PJO is sending is: "Adjust to an unfair system is better than to fight for make it better. It is nonsensical and leads you nowhere." That is my opinion. You might have your own.

Making him a God would fix it. (No. I dont believe Percy is able to beat Zeus. Everyone who has little knowledge about Greek Mythology knows how out of mind you have to be to say that), but he could be more influent and with his domains be able to help demigods in quests and keeping them safe. + always being there, would assure the Olympus to not change their ways back to neglect. Something he cant unsure after he dies. (He cannot even do that being alive because he is a mortal, guys. Hera took him for months. And he couldnt do anything).

+ It would make more sense with how powerful he is and has become, instead of only brushing it aside with "He is a child of the Big 3" bs.

Percy & Apollo dynamic

It depends a lot on how the writers is going to develop it. But I find really funny the bickering and their contrasts whenever they are on page. Percy with his sass, and Apollo liking to provoke him, and even his ceticysm in some circunstances. Both being very much two menaces together in different ways.

+ I believe Apollo with his more extroverted nature would well balance Percy introspection. Percy is always someone who has many things on his shoulders. He carried the weight of the sky on it and we can say he never let it go. Always taking responsabities it wasnt his to carry. Always sacrificing himself. Apollo can be the one to take it off from him for a while. And make Percy appreciate life more.

+ Percy making sure Apollo keeps his promises? Showing Apollo what is really a mortal life? Keeping him humble? Ensuring they will never let the other forget about what it is like to be human? Both being domestic with very mundane things? The sun falling in love with the sea? The archer who fell in love with a swordsman? The bard with the knight?

There are many tropes here and I love each one of them. (I have a soft spot for college student Percy with Apollo patiently tutoring him with whenever he has a difficult time task)

Apollo & Sally (+Blofis Family)

We talked about Apollo with Poseidon, but Apollo and Sally is really great in the fics. I find so cute Apollo deeply respecting Sally despite her being only a mortal. I just love it. And it makes complete sense, and a parallel between both Apollo and Percy is that both are momma's boys. (Actually, whenever Leto is introduced in a Perpollo fic Ik it is gonna be good)

+ I find the idea of Apollo blessing Estelle in arts and musics such a soft headcanon. I can just picture him teaching her to play different instruments and giving her different gifts.

With Paul is different. I picture Apollo being a bit indifferent with him at first, untill they start talking and debating about school reforming, teaching methods, etc. That is when they start getting along.

Apollo Cabin

I am not a fan of "Camper Mom Percy". There are fics I like, but in the overall, it is not really my thing. But we cant talk about Perpollo without mentioning Apollo's kids. And the chaos it spreads when the news is out is such a great and enjoyable thing. All the perpollo fics I read which highlights Will and sometimes Kayla, were incredibly funny.

And there is something really sweet about Percy falling in love with Apollo for him trying to be a better father.

Artemis & Apollo

The twins. When Artemis is brought to the narrative, I know for a fact I will like the story. Their dynamic is one of my favorites in greek mythology and I love when fanfic writers brings this to PJO. Even if it is a little thing? It is great to see Artemis there.

Gives Apollo a Happy Couple Moment

Despite the popular belief, Apollo had lovers that werent turned into plants. But! Always love to see him happy. Let him live a happy life with Percy. Be it mortal while it lasts or immortal.

What I wish to see?

More of Lester and Percy. It has so much potential. Honestly. Like. In any way you can imagine. It is a disaster comedic duo. And we deserve to see it.

I actually love lester's name so much

it's the way apollo(n)'s main cognates seem to be Destroyer (apollymi) and Assembly/City center/Walled fence (apella)

and Lester means "fortified place", "city" or even "camp"

it preserves and remains faithful to one of his meanings

and I can see how zeus arrived to this meaning and where his gross miscalculation was, he wants to defang apollo so he erases the Destroyer, it's meant to "humble" him

but like,, that's exactly who apollo wants to be. someone who builds and preserves, the core of civilization. he destroys too but that's not his preference and zeus cannot see it because he's too tunnel visioned on violence

so like it's like a microcosm of the whole situation, zeus is so scared of apollo's potential for violence that he goes too hard on the other direction and ends up reminding him of his actual core self (bad if you want to opress him!!! self actualization is power in a god's world!!!! you're missing the forest for the trees!!!!!!)

so like, of course apollo accepts the name and reclaims it as his own and makes it a fucking epithet when he starts self actualizing, that's literally what he does every time when in forced proximity to an opposing force, he conquers its concept and takes its name

I'm sorry to bother with my ask, but you are the most trustworthy mituna/ alpha trolls writer and I need to hear your thoughts.

How do you think mituna Pre-game life has been based on his classpect? Heirs usually have a certain privilege over the aspect they inherit, they dont have to work hard like a page to get it, however they either dont know what to do with it or the aspect get to take control of the heir. Do you think Tuna got to live a more comfortable life for beforus standards? How would the doom manifest in him? John became wind, equius became irrelevant, pehaps mituna great act of heroism was doom taking control of him instead of him learning how to take control of doom.

We actually can infer quite a bit about this. He was Cassandra. The logical conclusion is to keep adapting the Cassandra myth, and to assume his Doom is being Cassandra.

Mituna was an incredibly powerful psionic and basically an oracle. In the game, he knew whenever something bad was going to happen, and tried desperately to tell people. They never listened. I wouldn’t say his story follows 1:1 with that of Cassandra’s, where his Doom Vision was granted to him by an Apollo figure… But it’s pretty damn close, and I’d have to assume part of why they never listened was because he still got Apollo’s subsequent curse - to see the future, but never be believed. Considering this is a destruction of others’s belief, and the curse came as a punishment for Cassandra telling Apollo she doesn’t want to date or have sex with him… We already know who the Alpha Trolls’s Apollo figure is. It’s Cronus, Bard of Hope. Destroyer of Beliefs, and Known Sex Criminal. Due to the severity of the abuse he inflicts upon Mituna on screen - the violent bigotry and insults, the blatant disregard for his clear, desperate, repeated exclamations of his lack of consent, the molestation - we must also assume he fulfills the role of Ajax the Lesser as well.

Following this train of thought is the idea that people would actually readily listen to Mituna’s advice on Beforus. If he told someone to cut shit out, they’d listen to him. He likely didn’t have all that much mysticism surrounding him, considering he entered his SGRUB session at 13 years of age - it likely would’ve manifested in the same way Jade’s friends listen to her because she tends to be right about everything, inexplicably. They think it’s weird he can do that, but just shrug their shoulders, puzzle about it, or think he’s cooler for it.

Although he was an able-bodied male and carries an extremely useful ability, he was still a Goldblood, so his life was not privileged. He was pretty high on the Culling block, with him actually likely being specifically sought after due to his unique ability. Perhaps he evaded this through means of reclusion.

Getting culled might, theoretically, adopt you into the potential for wealth of a Highblood, but your autonomy is still getting stripped away from you quite violently. You are a trophy. You show wealth and status. You’re a novelty toy. You’re shown off like a cool knickknack, as if you’re not a person with a life and feelings. Everything is decided for you - what you wear, where you can go, what symptoms you’re allowed to have and express, what you eat, etc. - your control of your own life harshly limited to the whims of the Highblood. You are a foster child in middle class white suburbia, and your life is hell.

So, his life before the game was theoretically not as bad as it was in and after the game. He had yet to meet his combination of Apollo and Ajax the Lesser. He had yet to sacrifice himself for people who he called friends, yet who discarded him the second he stopped being what they wanted. He had yet to get locked with these people for eternity, still never listened to. But it still sucked. He’s an Heir of Doom, and a Lowblood on Beforus. It all still sucked.

But all jokes aside

Can you imagine Eumelus coming back home and seeing Apollo visiting his parents?

He sees Apollo being loving and kind to Admetus, he sees Apollo being gentle and friendly with Alcestis. He saw that his entire childhood, he saw the god of music, knowledge, light and poetry.

But now, after the war, Eumelus can't help but only see the god of plagues, the destroyer of men. He can't forget the horrible smell of disease and rotting human flesh, he can't forget what happend in Troy.

Obviously, it's not only one sided. Eumelus was fighting in this war, he helped destroy the city, he does have blood on his hands. And that could make him even more terrified of Apollo. Because he helped destroy the city that was under Apollo's protection.

What if one of the man he killed had Apollo's favour like Hector did? What if the only thing standing between him and Apollo's rage are his parents? What if Apollo is waiting for them to pass away to punish Eumelus? He can be patient, he's a god after all, he have all the time in the world. What if Pherae (their polis) will lose Apollo's favour with Admetus' death? What if Apollo will send a plague upon them as soon as Eumelus takes his father's throne? He can't stop thinking about all of this every time he sees Apollo.

I also like to think that Apollo did protect Eumelus despite being on the other side of the war. After all, Eumelus didn't die during the plage. He didn't die in the last battle despite being on the front line, inside of the Trojan horse. He made it home while most of the Greeks didn't.

He had and still have Apollo's favour, he just can't see it through his fear.

Finally remembered to do a Flash Fiction Friday prompt this year, inspired by @flashfictionfridayofficial's prompt "Blinding Gaze."

Apollo was the sun, both metaphorically and literally.

He was beautiful when he approached mortals, with golden curls and a warm grin. He seemed to bring a pleasant summer day's warmth with his hands, his lips, his very presence. According to her mother, Zeus had been similar, his power felt even with his guise of a swan.

Nobody had warned Helen that his prophets were similar.

She did not see the woman through the crowd of cheering people, throwing flowers and well wishes as Paris guided her through Troy. It was a beautiful city, her mind commented, perfect for her true love. She looked up at the thought, smiling at Paris. His...everything was perfect.

Just perfect. Just wonderful. Worthy of adoration. Nothing like...like...like...

Who was she trying to think of?

It didn't matter-

A hand grabbed her wrist, yanking her away from Paris. Helen cried out as her veil was yanked off, the hand returning to bury in her hair and yanking her to look up.

For a very long eternity, she was blinded by the sun.

Then the sun was yanked away, leaving Helen blinking. She looked down to see a small, almost skeletal, woman, yanked back by guards. "Destroyer-" she hissed. "Murderer, the blood is already on your hands!" she shrieked.

Helen stepped back, feeling her back press against a warm chest. "Ugh," a reedy, high voice complained. "My sister, Cassandra. Don't worry, Helen-" He turned her and Helen felt vomit rise up as Melenaus, her husband, her spark, did not meet her. "She'll leave us alone."

With the sun in her eyes and Aphrodite's spell shattering, she could do only one thing.

She screamed.
