Holmes and Watson / Tristan and Isolde
BBC Radio 4's Sherlock Holmes, The Devil's Foot (radio drama transcript) /// Granada's The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Red Circle /// Metafictional Monday: Tristan und Isolde, @teaformrholmes /// Brayton Polka, LIEBESTOD: On Love and Death in Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde", p. 246 /// The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Vincent Starrett /// BBC Radio 4's Sherlock Holmes, The Devil's Foot (radio drama transcript)
#this is so niche but I have to trust there's an audience for it#it's about characters being immortalised by the audience. it's about a love that is only realised in the minds of the viewer#there's an extra layer to how isolde never hears the resolution of this chord and so only the audience can witness their union or something#and in granada the chord remains unresolved and transitions into the show's theme as holmes stares into the camera#as if he's asking the audience if the chord is resolved - if his love is requited#but idk enough about opera to explain it and the guy who wrote that jstor article knows too much about opera to articulate it clearly#also bert coules was fucking insane for this#at least there's a canon basis for holmes & watson watching a wagner show in the red circle but bbc4 pulls it out of nowhere in devils foot#sherlock holmes#bbc4 sherlock holmes#granada holmes#granada johnlock#johnlock#acd johnlock#tristan and isolde

way back in like. march?? I took a stab at writing some kind of kabitserye type of story but it was a mess: it kept veering off into murder mystery drama territory because I was reading a lot of murder mystery novels around then and it Wasn't Good because I hadn't tried writing mysteries, let alone murder mysteries, before lmao
I did write a handful of short mystery stories since then, so next year I might take a stab at this idea again now that I'm no longer jumping head first into a genre pool I don't know how to swim in :)
#now for the part where i have to fight off the impulse to write in some b movie horror elements because ive been thinking about#reanimator a lot lately. ehghghh. thank god for the editing process. to wrangle my thoughts into a linear state of creating#anyway i read an article. interview? on the popularity of infidelity dramas in the philippines and it was poetry to me#and i also enjoy the really intense social melodrama in lino brocka's films. specifically the appearance of morality to cover up/justify#ugly behavior. or like. man i'm tired. whatever was going on in murder by tsismis. that's the thing. someday i'll get more into it#and post excerpts from the actual analysis of the film that actually explains the dynamic im talking around here#komiks tag#original tag#also there's some. vague lingering thought about ikaw lamang in here. not in a way that matters#but in a 'the first episode that i saw was not the first episode of the drama itself and it made me go. oh everyone has rotten vibes'#which is not. well. if you saw ikaw lamang then you know the characters. this is not the takeaway from the show. HOWEVER#i did invent a whole different show in my head between that and when the next episode aired. so.#fake ikaw lamang. ikaw lamang if it wasn't even remotely like ikaw lamang. on the topic of ikaw lamang here's a cringe story for you#still following along. BEFORE i had watched the show. i saw a notebook with franco on it but i didn't recognize the character#i just saw jake in a suit and went oh! cool! i will now Buy This!#anyway i still have the notebook lmao

when i see people against using the term transandrophobia its all "just men trying to steal the spotlight from women again" "trans men just keep bandwagoning on things trans women are already doing" "they dont experience things as badly as trans women do" "terfs focus more on trans women so we should be talking just about that" "theyre just using this to say that TRANS WOMEN are their opressors!! its just transmisogyny!" "a bunch of TME people and theyfabs trying to say they have it worse"
then i see people that actually talk about transandrophobia and theyre just. in their own communities discussing the problems they face, trying to get people to not completely ignore their issues, and that they deserve to be treated decently and not as evil or that theyve become worse or betraying women for transitioning into their proper gender.
i think yall who hate these discussions are just falling into queer terminology discourse and oppression olympics and infighting (and radfem juice for sure), all of which we say again and again does nothing but help people that want all of us dead. this shit is stupid as fuck
#btw im not a trans woman or trans man nor am i cis. im genderfluid#and as a bi lesbian who was making informative and positive posts for bi lesbianism at the height of the hate towards that#please ! calm the fuck down! stop infighting! this shit is ridiculous!#transandrophobia#anytime i see people post an article or something explaining against transandrophobia#its just FILLED with just dismissive and insulting shit#like damn yalls ''incredibly good reasonings'' against the term#feels one moment away from just saying ''trans men are just a bunch of whiny babies''#its gross as fuck#yall have GOT to stop treating your fellow queers as punching bags and lesser than you and never experiences Real Problems#btw if you use the term ''theyfab'' i hope you break your neck#you are a transphobe flat out if you use that. no matter what identity you are

The discussions of Elizabeth Gaskell always seem to focus on who she's not. She's not Dickens, she's not Austen, she's not Elliot, and she's definitely not one of the Brontes. At best, they'll say she has Dickens' social justice concerns and Austen's country houses, but who is she? What makes her perspective unique?
As I consider this, I keep coming back to, "She's kind."
She is so kind.
There is a compassion in her writing unlike anything I've seen from other authors. She wants to see people. Know them. Understand them. And when she does, she loves them, faults and all.
When she laughs at people, it's not the satire of Austen or the caricature of Dickens--it's a fond, loving laugh that likes these people in all their ridiculousness.
Even when she's pushing a very clear message about how people should or shouldn't act, you never get the sense that she's judging people who fail to live up to that standard--she's just trying to understand how they got to the place where they made the wrong decision.
In her world, people are kind and deserve to be treated kindly. But that doesn't mean that she ignores the darkness in life. She sees the darkness and sin and squalor and says that's why we need to be kinder to each other. Her kindness comes not from ignoring reality but by paying so much attention to reality that she comes to care deeply for everyone. And I just go crazy over it.
#books#elizabeth gaskell#brought to you by one article that was like 'gaskell's so underrated'#and proceeded to explain why she's inferior to all other classic authors#and by reading one more chapter of ruth#where everyone was so kind that i just wanted to go feral#granted that she has a huge body of work with widely varying tones so this prob doesn't apply to everything#but it's what sticks out to me as uniquely gaskell

my first impression of tolkien’s writing so far is that while it’s got flowery prose that takes unneeded complicated turns to get to the point, it’s remarkably easy to parse through. i think i may have expected something far different from the literal years of hearing how it’s not the easiest read out there, and it may change dramatically later on, but his balance of too much and just enough is kept incredibly well. despite the fact the narration reads like it’s intended for the very denizens of his fictional world, or even exactly because of it, the writing grabs your attention like a nameless storyteller you came across on your journeys now recounting the world’s secrets in the form of a fable. and is probably fantasy jesus in disguise idk
#lotr#is it all the practice i have writing zenos#makes tolkien sound likea wordpress article#*kisses two fingers and points them towards the ground* big thanks big z#because he’s in hell#i’m sorry for explaining the joke

✶— merlin · [falco columbarius]:
a small species of falcon
✶— gawain · [celtic]
name with celtic origin, meaning battle hawk, white falcon, little falcon or white hawk
✶— falcon
in medieval times, falcons symbolized power, status, nobility, love, daring and mystery. in late medieval courtly literature, falcons were associated with daring, mysterious and catastrophic love.
✶—tulip [tulipa]
"I declare my love for you"
✶— honeysuckle [lonicera]
devotion, affection
✶— cornflower [centaurea cyanus]
"hope in love"
✶— ivy [hedera]
fidelity, attachment
[I don't know exactly what I wanted with this. I did this mostly for myself, just because I couldn't stop thinking about this little parallel between merlin's and gwaine's names. I made gwaine's falcon with white and lighter colours because I wanted to represent the other meaning of his name, white falcon, but I made sure to let the top of his head gray/blueish because that's what a male merlin falcon looks like. also, gwaine's not albino, at least it wasn't my intention, but it's okay if you want to interpret it that way. I noticed I used colours that would make him look like he's albino only when I finished this lol but all I wanted to do was differentiate the two falcons and make that reference to gawain's name meaning.
anyway this took me a good amount of 19 hours and it crashed my app and phone. I lost my original canva but thankfully I had saved the art in my phone in time. it was a fun experience, I've never drawn feathers like this, so it was a bit challenging but I like the results :]
#i am so insecure about this one#but it took me so much time and it made me so stressed because the apl kept crashing that i just said fuck it and here it is#anyone that understands birds better than i do‚ if i made any mistakes with anatomy or colour i dont wanna know#i based merlin's colours on a banch of different articles I read about the difference between males and females merlin falcons#and i know males have gay and blue heads and back#that's why gwaine has his head (and back‚ even though you can't see it) also gray and blue#like i explained‚ i made him white because of his name and to differentiate them#if this colour does not occur naturally‚ lets say hes a fantasy falcon then. i dont mind#anyway#merwaine#merlin#gwaine#mergwaine#birds#falcon#merlin falcon#bbc merlin#digital art#fanart#artists on tumblr#my art

Woah, hold on, how did I miss this?
The document explicitly permits gay men to enter the priesthood under the normal chastity requirements!
Article time stamped January 13, 2025.
#tower of babble#christianity#catholic#lgbt#side b#article from January 13 2025#I heard about the document but I didn’t realize the Vatican officially approved it!#my vocation talk the other day reminded me that one of the reasons I didn’t#seriously consider religious life when I was younger was because I knew gay priests were Not Allowed#so a gay nun probably wouldn’t be allowed either#but hey look! that 2005 statement by the Vatican isn’t contradicted by this but it is more compassionately explained and implemented!

Hello friends, just here to tell you I might not be able to post daily because of what's happening in my country, I'm just very preoccupied with that and I'm always on protests and I barely manage to use social media for anything else now. I'll continue posting as frequently as I can, but just for now it might be irregular. ✌🏼
#if you are interested in whats happening in Georgia I can share some general news articles which explain what's going on#🏷️

Instead of resembling the carefully researched ships of something like Master and Commander, the Revenge's deck is a wide, uncluttered stage that rarely moves unless it's caught in a storm. In a relationship-driven sitcom, there's no need to literally rock the boat. Storms exist purely for emotional punctuation, with weather and scenery acting as a kind of mood ring. So when Blackbeard hits rock bottom, his ship becomes a dark, roiling embodiment of inner torment. These emotive scenes are when OFMD's use of the Volume really stands out, suggesting a different philosophy from that of the shows and movies that use it as a catch-all replacement for location filming. In OFMD, it's one of many visual tools that bolsters the larger-than-life tone. For instance, during Lucius and Pete's reunion this season, the LED backdrops display a luminously sentimental peach-pink sunset. And on several occasions the show makes judicious use of a CGI moon, carefully placed above Stede and Blackbeard's heads during romantic moments. How big is the moon in Our Flag Means Death? As big and as close as it needs to be. A real moon just wouldn't work as well.
After complaining incessantly about The Volume (ie. LED backdrops) making Star Wars shows look ugly and fake, I've come to realize that it's best used in contexts where "looking fake" is a feature, not a bug.
#our flag means death#ofmd#if you're not familiar with The Volume it's explained in the article#studios are thrilled to find an “efficient” replacement for building real sets and filming on location with natural lighting#but surprise surprise it invariably looks like shit
