being a trans guy going to a new doctor is so wild when it comes to some of the questions they ask. when i was a teen i went to go get tested for any STIs before my long distance boyfriend visited (i had one and I didn't even realize! get tested!) and the nurse asked me if i was sexually active. yes. then she asked if ive recently had sex with a man who's had sex with another man. and i sit there like.... yes....

Why am I the weird one for thinking kids sho uldn't need parent to give them permission to learn about there body?! Why should teachers be scared to teach kids what puberty is?! KIDS NEED TO KNOW THIS SHIT!!! "ahh but the parents should be the ones to find the right time to teach them this stuff" NO THEY FUCKING SHOULDN'T! Sorry but We need to teach them shit cause the last generations don't know shit about sex. We relied on them and look what it's gotten us. Many people don't know how periods work. Many have never seen what the signs are for what is common illnesses like yeasts inventions. Many don't understand how to have sex/masturbate other than "penis goes into vagina." Many's only education is just video of birth and they don't know how the stages of pregnancy look that's not just art. Many don't know that just getting semen near the opening of the vagina might still lead to pregnancy. MANY STILL THINK QUEER PEOPLE DON'T EXIST!!! This isn't even everything cause still is just off the top of my head and we just expect parents to give them this kinda information when so many DON'T want them to know. "What about parent's right?" What about the kid's right to education and important information like how their bodies function. Why do the parents get the right to leave kids in the dark about things that come up everyday of there lives? "Oh but kids don't need to know about sex?" Yeah they do. No they don't need to know stupidly complex kink culture or any of that shit but teaching kids what there parts are and signs of bad behavior early on can give them the language to stop predators or giving teenagers the signs of sexual abuse can help them escape those situations. Plus Sex ed isn't just about sex. Sex ed needs to be about how attraction, romance, different gender and sexualities and their histories, and signs of unhealthy relationships in all forms. "But what about religions?!" I'm sorry but if part of your religion is about keeping kids ignorant about what should be basic health information then maybe it might be time to rethink those parts. Not even speaking of some of the largest religions do but yall do realize that holding back information and education is how a lot of backwoods cults start right? And let's not get started on the fact that much of why queer people are not accepted is due to many religions demonizing and hiding our history. Wasn't JKR just spouting shit about how trans people were not in the holocaust? Man that could have been avoid if it was commonly taught knowledge in school that trans people were also victims of the holocaust with just many queer people in general.
Maybe I'm just so sick of treating sex ed as some big boogieman. We should teaching kids what should be considered important information but like "common sense" no one teaches anything cause schools are scared to teach it or parents just assume their kids just know it already has really fucked side affects.

This is a cool result: current oral PrEP requires a daily pill, but a trial of a twice-yearly injection of lenacapavir has proven so effective that the trial being conducted was ended early to give all participants the drug. Not only do twice-yearly injections avoid the problem of having to remember to take a pill every day, they also may have less stigma, which has been a problem for PrEP in the past.

In 1991, Princess Diana made a profound statement of compassion and humanity when she shook the hand of an AIDS patient without wearing gloves. During a time when fear and misinformation about the disease were rampant, many people avoided physical contact with those infected, believing that HIV/AIDS could be spread through casual touch. Princess Diana’s simple yet courageous gesture shattered this misconception, helping to break down the stigma surrounding the illness.

HIV research and monitoring has historically excluded transgender men, creating blind spots in understanding this group’s sexual well-being and happiness. Two recent studies—one out of New York and the other from Germany—suggest that transgender men who have sex with other men have a higher prevalence of HIV than the general population. The German analysis further finds that transgender men who have sex with other men face a host of inequities compared to cisgender gay and bisexual men, including reduced access to sexual healthcare and less satisfying sex lives. [...] Almost three quarters of trans MSM reported their income was insufficient for them to live comfortably, compared to about half of cis MSM. The researchers note that the income disparity could be due to the trans MSM participants being younger on average, but they also suggest discrimination could play a role. In terms of mental health, survey scores indicated both groups experienced various degrees of depression and anxiety from mild to severe. However, trans MSM were almost four times as likely to suffer from severe anxiety and depression compared to cis MSM (15% vs 5%). Furthermore, trans MSM indicated far more suicidal ideation than their cisgender counterparts (41% versus 16%). The survey results also pointed to gaps in sexual satisfaction, with more trans MSM being unhappy with their sex life than cis MSM (34% versus 22%). Trans men more often disagreed that sex was as safe as they wanted (18% versus 11%) and indicated less ability to say no to unwanted sex (23% to 12%). Trans MSM reported fewer sexual partners than cis MSM, and the study authors propose that difficulties in finding partners due to stigma may contribute to less happiness in their sex lives. On the whole, trans MSM also had poorer access to healthcare compared to cis MSM. Fewer had ever received either an HIV test (41% versus 24%) or an STI test (55% versus 45%). Drawing on other research, the authors suggest that one reason for this may be discrimination in healthcare settings, which may cause trans men to avoid seeking sexual health services. The authors go on to say that stereotypes, such as assuming trans men only have sex with cisgender women, may also interfere with providing adequate care. Finally, although trans MSM had higher rates of HIV than the general population, this was lower than amongst cis MSM (2.5% versus 10.7%). A different study conducted in New York City by Dr Asa Radix and colleagues of the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center also found that HIV prevalence is higher in transgender men. In this retrospective analysis, the authors identified a racially diverse group of 577 transgender men who sought care at the facility between 2009 and 2010. Among this group of men (mean age 32 years), less than half (n=250) had ever had an HIV test. Out of the 250 individuals who had, 2.8% (n=7) tested positive for HIV, a significantly higher rate of HIV than the current US national prevalence of 0.41%. Of the 18 trans men who had sex exclusively with cis men and tested for HIV, two (11.1%) were positive.

A fun, happy dc story for a change
Look I can be very critical of Winick's writing because I'm so ambivalent about it but damn if it isn't, on a meta level, a really satisfying spite story.
At the core of this story, there is Jim Starlin. Now Starlin's writing has many flaws, not least of all the blatant racism and sexism. And if there's one thing Jim hates, it's Robin. He wants to kill that little boy so bad, oh how he hates that bright coloured child in tights that's just holding Batman back from reaching his true potential as an absolute badass... And hey, good news! Dc, in trying to bring a second Robin after the first got a new identity, has dropped the ball, and the new boy is unpopular amongst the fans who miss the previous iteration! This is his opportunity to kill Robin, definitely!
But how? People may not have voted him dead yet, but Jim is already planning, setting up plots and trying his damndest to get him killed. And the thing about Jim- the thing that makes him a good writer, you see, the thing that separates him from those losers who fail to see Batman's true potential, is that his writing is gritty. He's not afraid to write a true dark knight facing the grimdark horrors of a town laden with crime, to shy away from the real dark, gritty topic that are mature and dark like rape. And uh, sexual violence against women. And uh, serial raping and killing women. (I'm kidding, of course, I didn't forget the native american cult leader who bathes in blood to prolongate his life. Or about the kgb agent Batman straight-up kills after he tries to kill Reagan. Or about the suicides, god I haven't forgotten about that. Don't worry.) But anyway, sexual abuse in general is a big theme for Jim. It shows how serious and dark and gritty he can be. So he has an idea: why not make Robin a child sexual abuse victim and give him AIDS? That way that's a justification to write Robin unlikeable (by making him emotional when exposed to situations of sexual abuse, unable to restrain his anger when defending a prostitute...) and at the same time it's the perfect way to kill Robin! DC has been considering giving a character AIDS, it's perfect! It will show everyone how dark and gritty Jim's writing is, he can make Robin even more unlikeable on top of how people are upset about the transition between Robins, and then he can finally kill Robin! It's perfect! Jim is a genius!!!
Now, of course, we know that plan failed: first because dc rejected Starlin's idea for Jason to die of AIDS, and second because as soon as Jason (as a character, which is what DC apparently had a problem with) died, they fired Starlin as a Batman writer and introduced a new Robin, making Starlin's vehement campaign against a fictional fifteen years old completely vain.
So that's it, right? Crisis avoided, we almost had some even worst writing that what already was, everyone sigh in relief and go home?
Enter Judd Winick stage left.
Now, remember how DC wanted to give a character AIDS? In 2003, Green Arrow #43 reveals that Mia Dearden, Oliver Queen's ward and a csa survivor of underage prostitution, is HIV positive, and in #45, she takes on the mantle of the second Speedy, becoming, according to Wikipedia, the most prominent HIV-positive superhero to star in an ongoing comic book. (And also one of my favourite comics characters, but that's unrelated.) An important thing about Winick, who wrote those issues, is that he is personally invested in education about AIDS, continuing his friend Pedro Zamora's educational work after his death of AIDS-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. (He also wrote a graphic novel about it, called Pedro and Me: Friendship, Loss and What I've Learned). So kudos! We finally got someone who has done research and actually holds respect for HIV+ people writing HIV+ characters. And Mia is so cool, man- but not only is she a really interesting character, she is, first and foremost, a survivor. That's how she characterizes herself, sees what happened to her: she did what she had to do to survive, and now she's a fucking superhero and she's here to help others and you know what she's not gonna do? Die "of AIDS."
Yeah, I haven't forgotten Starlin's terrible writing. And, if Winick's writing is any identification, it seems like he hasn't either. The idea of making the second Speedy a parallel with the second Robin isn't groundbreaking, but it's cool that it's there (and also, incidentally, a reminder that parallels are interesting and fun and backstories are not a finite resource characters can run out of or steal from eachother.) Anyway, this includes Winick altering Mia's backstory and making her a street kid to make it more similar to Jason's, as well as Mia's on-screen murder offering a nice parallel to Jason's ambiguous murder in Starlin's Diplomat Son (a parallel I can't help but regard with vindicative snark, because that's how you handle a teenager who has just caused, directly or not, a man's death out of hopelessness in a situation that felt impossible. A little snark of See? Now this is how it's done. Yeah, Starlin's Bruce isn't winning any parenting against Winick's Ollie, that's for sure.) So there it is! Our fun spite story, Winick taking on Starlin's terrible ideas, a teen vigilante and survivor taking on a hero identity to mirror a teen vigilant's loss and death, a good old fashioned schooling. Cool? Cool!
And then, in 2005, Winick buries Starlin's last remaining impact on DC by bringing back Jason Todd, in a move so audacious in the back-then landscape it would be kinda akin to bringing Ben Parker back to life in Spiderman's life as a villain (please don't tell me this happens in the comics I don't read Marvel and if someone wrote that I would honestly prefer not to know). Now, of course, the impact of Jason's death on the narrative can't and shouldn't be undone by that move, but that's not important, because that's not what Starlin wanted when killing Jason - he wanted to kill Jason/Robin, not give everyone grief-induced hallucinations where Jason/Robin had an incredibly salient place in the narrative, so he didn't get what he wanted anyway.
Personally, my view on Winick's writing of Jason is contrasted (and the fact that there are some elements of Starlin's characterization of Jason that I prefer to Winick's deeply amazes me, incredibly ironic situation. Which only serves to point that even Starlin' goal of making us hate his version of robin failed drastically, as me and my jaybin fan mutuals can attest. Sucks to suck!). But as much as some of the decisions frustrate me, do you understand how much of a power move it is to take this child, this victim who has been victim-blamed for years, and bring him back to life with a vengeance and a demand that his life mattered, that his death was a bad thing that shouldn't be tolerated? Do you know how good that story feels, especially to victims when reading it and see that indignation validated, that rebellion against the status quo and victim-blaming, how good it feels to see a "bad victim" that refuses to stay down ? And in the context of Starlin's intent to write Jason a CSA victim, Winick writing Mia, the HIV+ plot for them both- do you understand the genuine and violent glee I feel, that it's Winick that wrote Jason coming back to life and hunting down the narrative with a machine gun?
So yeah. This is the context in which I talk about acknowledging the csa subtext in Green Arrow: Seeing Red, but this post isn't about lecturing you to accept it as canon or imply that you're bad for not sharing that interpretation. It's about spite -towards Jim Starlin specifically. And it's about that interpretation, but the context in which it was written in general, is not just a victory against Starlin, that guy lost long ago, but the narrative equivalent of that Green Arrow meme about taking a funny selfie over a gravestone. In Seeing Red (specifically in the line that's discussed when questioning the csa headcanon), Jason tells Mia they are similar because of what they had to do to survive, framing the sexual trauma on Mia's part (and thus allegedly also on Jason's) again firmly on the side of survival rather than victimhood. Whether it's by becoming a villain or a hero, there's this rebellion against being an object to the violence, which is at the core of Starlin's treatment of sexual violence. This is fun. We're having fun. I'm repeating myself, but do you understand how satisfying, electrifying it is? I'm filled with unreasonable amounts of glee. You don't always need the context in which a story was written to enjoy it but in this case, doesn't this make it so much more enjoyable? (And on top of that, kudos to Winick for killing Captain Nazi, I hope it was as satisfying to write as it looked.) Anyway, Mia Dearden and Jason Todd, the characters that you are. I love them so much.

Okay so post-Seeing Red reread that comes with reading through Green Arrow 2001, I have 2 new things I've noticed and thought were interesting! This is the first, and the second will be here later on:
Ollie is kinda on his empathy A-game in this one? Like he's being a good dad, a good friend/colleague, it's impressive how much he isn't flying off the handle. I feel like all-in-all post-Mia-HIV-diagnosis, or maybe even post-City Walls, I can't pin down the shift exactly, he becomes much more self-aware in regards to his own temper and emotional shortcomings, and he doesn't like try to change that, but he does start avoiding situations that he knows he won't be able to handle with grace, (which feels like a much more natural progression for him and most characters in general than suddenly getting better and healing and no longer being flawed, but that's just my preference,) and he's doing his best with that in this one. All this to say, he:
keeps the conflict with Bruce to a minimum, except for when he's calling out his parenting style and rightfully upset by the possibility that Bruce only showed up in the first place to lure out Jason, and he and Mia were planned collateral. (It's worth noting that once he critiques Bruce's parenting, Bruce's knee-jerk response is to say pretty much "I know you're being mean and irrational because you're upset, but remember when Roy got addicted to heroin?" which, even disregarding the Roy part, he's kinda chalking any questioning of his parenting style up to Ollie just being upset, when like, that's a very valid critique of the situation. And I think context is added to his critique of Bruce's parenting style by acknowledging that a. that this comes after Bruce calling Jason "dirt in the gutter" and GA responding like "whatever you say," and b. Ollie is canonically aware that somehow, Jason ended up buried in rubble in his last fight with Bruce, meaning he has at least a rudimentary understanding of the Joker showdown (although I can't imagine he knows about the whole ultimatum part.) Several times throughout this run, Ollie alludes to Bruce being a difficult parent (mainly to Dick, via gossip from Roy,) but he doesn't know Jaybin well enough to even recognize him in Heaven, so I think it's entirely possible that when he says Bruce was a bad father to Jason, he's referring not only to Bruce's general closed-off and authoritarian approach to parenting, but specifically to recent, post-resurrection treatment of Jason, (maybe including the blowing up?) which would be VERY interesting.
sends Mia away when he wants to talk one-on-one with Bruce about Jason's turn towards evil! I don't know how I didn't notice this one in my first readthrough, but after she accidentally says something rude about Jason's death and the topic of drug dealing comes up, Ollie asks Mia to talk to one of her contacts about the weapons deal that's going on (and makes a point of praising her in front of Bruce for her network of sources and good information-gathering skills,) and then immediately goes in and tries to press Bruce on how hard it must be to see Jason doing the things he's doing (where Bruce doubles-down on having no residual care towards Jason.) This doesn't mean anything in the larger plot of things, but I think it's really sweet that once she gets embarrassed saying something insensitive, Ollie kinda gives her something to do off to the side so the adults can talk about something personal she'd be out of the loop on. I wonder if part of the reasoning behind sending her away is so she wouldn't be psyched out by the failed sidekick talk and the general idea of a sidekick dying, turning evil (relative to this way he was before,) and consequentially being abandoned (at a surface level,) by his hero parent, as opposed to Bruce's cautionary tale approach to the whole Jason debacle. It happens right when Bruce starts claiming that Jason is like, morally lost. The idea that she would see herself in Jason before the gym fight and Ollie could predict that upsetting her feels like a stretch typing it out, but a very interesting one imo. Either way, it's for the best that Mia wasn't around to hear the "another piece of dirt in the gutter" remark, and Ollie seemed to plan for this.
Gives Bruce run of the case, even before Jason comes into play, just in an effort to be cooperative, and because “he’s visiting." I'm also moderately obsessed with "Try and wear something nice tomorrow!" Like yeah Brucie public appearance, I understand what it actually means, but yelling "wear that dress I like ;)" out into the night is crazyyyy.
Is just so cute with Mia, if there’s one thing Green Arrow 2001 makes Oliver it’s a girldad. That really shines in this storyline. His first reaction to Mia when she escapes/is let out of the gym is “are you hurt? Did he hurt you?” he’s hyping her up, he keeps talking about Bruce’s “wild child” taking “his girl,” he’s actually explaining things about Bruce's m.o. and disposition to her, just being a great father all in all. And not to cornplate, but he makes a little joke about hating pineapple on pizza to some goons and Mia agrees with him pretty close after the Winick issue where she says it’s her favorite to the Teen Titans (another point of contrast with Bruce in the Mia-Jason parallel this storyline centers on: Oliver takes Mia to join the titans specifically so she can have a support system, while Jason was established to interact with them only behind Bruce’s back, under the pretense that he’d be punished for working with them, and dies isolated from his peers) which reads like she’s lying just so she can keep agreeing with her dad?? Mia Dearden cutest of all time! They both eat the pizza anyways...
I'm biased, but I just think it's kinda sweet that he continuously refers to Jason as "kiddo," "this kid," "wild child," etc. Like even mid-fight. idk Ollie acknowledging his actual age just hits, king of actually understanding the parental relationship between a sidekick and the hero who adopts him while Bruce makes a point of referring to both Jason and Mia exclusively as partners, charges, etc. all comic. Like it's ROUGH his direct response to GA calling him a hell of a father is admitting he has failings as a "mentor," both emphasized in quotes and bolded. Jason's wrong in the Mia conversation specifically about their fathers being the same, not because they aren't genuinely disconnected from his and Mia's backgrounds, they are, but because Oliver is a genuinely active parent, unbeknownst to Jason. And it's a leap in logic to think Mia's in the same spot, but with his reference to go off of? It's just a really fucking tough example to work off of, that he's internalized as the standard. But in reality, Ollie's... kinda killing it?
#this shit is moe to me#i love him so much I wasn't kidding guys.#green arrow 2001#oliver queen#green arrow#seeing red#mia dearden#jason todd#dc comics#bruce wayne#I think it's fucked up that Ollie is permanently dubbed a bad dad specifically over a drug psa#(not to say he was a good dad there it was not his finest moment although leaving Roy behind in the first place is worse imo)#while Bruce gets the girldad label for showing Cass a whole new avenue of unhealthy parenting#Mia is THRIVING because Ollie quit being Mayor to be a full-time girldad#LITERALLY! he didn't run again in part so Mia wouldn't get harassed over being HIV-positive or a former SW by tabloids!#I just think he's neat#and for all his flaws one thing that guy is gonna do is try and relate to the youth#honestly his whole thing about child sidekicks is a parenting flex in and of itself#I just love green arrow 2001 in general bro#also I didn't realize that Ollie's whole thing about being guilty with Bruce in UtH was about erasing his memory in identity crisis?#which is understandable because I havent read it#but if you are also confused: that's what it is he erased his memory in order to erase Dr. Light's and feels bad about it#also dirt in the gutter is a fucking insane thing to say#i keep remembering it as trash in the gutter which also isn't good#but specifically the “unclean” connotation associated with the homelessness background both share? Bruce Wayne I have a complaint to raise#thank GOD Mia didn't have to hear that actually#city walls is one of my favorite storylines but I cannot unpack that anytime soon i have like homework and also noting profound to say

Is "safe sex" even real? Never done it so idk but you mentioned risk profiles once. I feel like demographically I've got a higher risk profile and the anxiety about that really prevents me from going and trying anything. Do you think that's overly anxious in a negative way?
"safe sex" is a really misleading and binary term. There is never any guarantee of safety in anything we do. Every choice we make comes with risks. Hell, choosing not to connect with other people sexually (if you have any desire to) does ITSELF come with its own risks and costs over time.
The chase after perfect, guranteed safety will only lead to us feeling powerless and afraid, because it is an impossibility. All that we can do is inform ourselves of the risks, mitigate the risks we are the most concerned about and that affect others, and then knowingly accept what risks we still face as the cost of leading a full, enjoyable life.
When we inform ourselves about risk mitigation, we learn there are certain steps that we should probably take to protect ourselves and others if we are engaging in behavior that carries risk. If you're having sex with a complete stranger, it's probably smart to use a condom. If you have sex regularly you might want an HPV vaccine or to be on PreP to prevent HIV transmission. When you meet up with people you should get tested for COVID. You should get vaccinated against COVID. If you want to get suspended in rope from the ceiling don't use a hardware store $3 carabeener, get the good shit from the rock-climbing supply store. Things like that.
But even if you use a condom, you might get herpes or HPV or crabs or a yeast infection. Even if you never have sex, you might already have herpes or HPV or crabs or a yeast infection. I've had several of those things, including some of the "scarier" sounding ones, and they're really not that big a deal. They're just a thing that happens in life. Most people have them. You pop a Valtrex when you have symptoms, you shove a suppostiory up your vulva when it itches, you sleep without underwear on, you communicate with partners, you move on with your life.
Sure, I do what I can to avoid the risks I am most concerned about. I take PreP right now because not getting HIV would be preferable to me. But I could still live if I got it. I am informed about the realities of living with HIV today, which makes that fear more manageable. It is easier for me to make carefully considered and yet realistic decisions surrounding my risk profile because I can confront the realities that scare me and learn more about them.
The body is not separable form its environment. We are connected to our surroundings and the people around us, and our bodies get sick, catch viruses, grow old, get messy, and die inevitably and return to the earth. With our one life, we each have to choose what is most important to us and what potential costs we can stand. But with each year that passes, a cost to our bodies is already incurred, and there's nothing we can do to prevent aging and death from coming our way.
So what would you like to do while you are around? Would you like to have sex with condoms? Go on PreP? Get the HPV vaccine? Take random loads in a glory hole? Make out and dry hump with a cutie at a party and catch her cold sore? Cross the street in the dark after looking both ways? Go out dancing so late that your sleep is disrupted for the whole week? Get your heart broken? Have a great all-consuming love? Have children? Endure a torn labia while giving birth? Try psychedelics? Go on a swinger's cruise? Get a UTI from spermicide? Roleplay online instead of meeting in person? Fuck people with a strap-on?
The choice is yours. And no choice you make will be perfect or come without risk. No life is safe. Accepting loss is one of the necessary tasks of leading a life. But you can educate yourself, reflect on what you most want out of life and what you fear, and then take steps to demystefy your worst fears and mitigate the risks that loom largest to you and the people you care about.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have some fun.

"You Have to Live Your Life:" Responses to Common COVID Minimizing Phrases - Published Aug 6, 2024
If you're still COVIDing, you've likely heard phrases, like "it's mild now," or "you have to live your life," repeated over and over. You might be wondering, "what do I even say here? How do I respond to this?" I've listed some of the most common minimizing phrases and some potential responses to them. Feel free to adapt these and make them your own. I've included a variety of responses with different tones, depending on how much you want to be #saltingthevibes.
I want to recognize you might not always have the time or emotional energy to get into these discussions. Some people unfortunately aren't engaging in good faith, so it's important to be able to discern for yourself when you want to have these conversations. You don't always have to educate people, it can be exhausting! For those times when you want to respond but are at a loss for words in the moment, here are some ideas to get you started.
Starting off with one of my (least) favorites:
"You have to live your life!"
"I am living my life. Wearing a mask doesn't stop me from living my life, it makes it possible for me to do the things I love more safely."
"I'd love to be able to get out and do more things, but unfortunately that's not safe for me because so few people are masking."
"I would be a lot harder to live my life if COVID disabled me."
"Living my life means protecting my health, in the short and long term."
"I've adapted how I live my life based on the research about all of the long term health effects of a COVID infection."
"How long are you going to keep doing this for?"
"I'll probably always wear a mask in public spaces, when you know better you do better!"
"There's no expiration date on keeping myself safe and protecting my health."
"When we've widely implemented clean air standards and there's a sterilizing vaccine for COVID, then I might update my current precautions."
"I really wish I didn't have to do this either! But given what I know about COVID and Long COVID, this is the best choice for me."
"How long are you going to keep doing this for? It seems like you're sick all the time now, it sounds really unpleasant."
"We have to live with COVID."
"I'm glad you agree the government has done a terrible job trying to mitigate the spread!"
"To me, living with COVID means doing what we can to protect ourselves, not just giving up entirely."
"We also have to live with car accidents, that's why I wear my seatbelt to protect myself."
"What if we didn't have to? What if we collectively did more to clean the air and create safer living conditions for all of us?"
"Unfortunately you're right, that's why I'll continue to mask to keep myself and my community safer."
"It's mild now/it's just a cold/flu."
"Many illnesses seem like 'just a cold/flu' when you're first infected, but can still have long term health consequences, like mono or HIV."
"You can develop Long COVID even if your initial symptoms are mild or asymptomatic."
"I'm not as worried about the initial symptoms of the acute infection, I'm more concerned about the significant risk of Long COVID."
"You're lucky your symptoms weren't very severe initially. For me, COVID was a lot worse than a cold."
"I don't want to get sick with a cold either."
"I got it X times and I'm fine!"
"I'm sorry to hear you've had so many infections. COVID can cause silent damage throughout our bodies, it might be a good idea to go in for a check up with your doctor."
"I'm glad you're feeling fine so far, but my experience has been different."
"Your risk of Long COVID increases with each infection, so I'm doing what I can to avoid getting it."
"I hear that in your experience, a COVID infection hasn't been a big deal. Unfortunately not everyone is so lucky and many are dealing with significant Long COVID symptoms."
"You're young and healthy, you'll be fine/ only the vulnerable need to worry."
"I used to think the same thing! It turns out I have some underlying risk factors that mean an infection could be very harmful to me."
"Everyone is at risk of Long COVID, and your risk increases with each infection."
"You cannot know someone's health status by looking at them. A lot of young people are high risk as well."
"I don't appreciate you making assumptions about my health status."
"Did you know more than 75% of Americans have at least one risk factor? More than 40% have two or more, and almost 20% have three or more! Being high risk is more common than you think."
"There are actually a lot of factors that can make someone high risk, like a history of smoking, depression, asthma, ADHD, and more!"
"Kids don't get COVID/it's mild for kids."
"Unfortunately many studies show that rates of Long COVID in kids is similar to the rates in adults."
"COVID is the 8th leading cause of death in children in the US."
"Kids can be high risk for COVID, like if they have asthma, ADHD, autism, diabetes, or other common health issues."
"Kids don't deserve to be repeatedly infected with an illness that we know causes long term damage."
"I'd encourage you to read some of the stories about kids with Long COVID, it's heartbreaking for them and their families."
"Long COVID is rare."
"I'm curious where you learned that, because that doesn't fit into my understanding of Long COVID."
"Studies show rates around 20% of adults infected will go on to develop Long COVID, and many studies show higher rates. Your risk increases with each infection."
"Even if you're right, I'm not willing to risk it."
"Have you noticed an increase in weird symptoms or health issues in your circle? Fatigue, headaches, GI issues, stroke, heart attack, blood clots and a ton of other issues can all be caused by a COVID infection."
"It's more common than you might think, there are over 200+ possible symptoms and it can look different in everyone."
"My doctor doesn't wear a mask."
"Yikes! How unfortunate your doctor isn't up to date on the science and isn't doing more to protect their patients."
"It's too bad how many doctors don't stay up to date with important health information."
"Doctors also used to smoke cigarettes in healthcare facilities and recommend them to patients. Just goes to show you doctors aren't always right."
"The medical field scorned the doctor who recommended they start washing their hands... I'm seeing a lot of parallels here."
"Unfortunately it can take many years for practices like these to become more mainstream."

a lying problem? that can't be right. i don't have a problem with lying at all.
“Oh, I don’t swear,” was out of Tim’s mouth before he consciously thought about it.
Jason snorted. “Seriously?”
No, but if Jason believes it he might as well commit. It’s just one lie, what’s the worst that could happen? “I prefer to express myself in other ways.”
“Yeah, sure. Gonna tell me ‘ain’t ain’t a word,’ too?”
“Actually ain’t is a word, according to linguistics and some dictionaries. Teachers at Gotham Academy just have no respect for the rich history of slang and English dialects—“
“Christ, would you shut up? I get it, you’re a good boy who’s never cussed in his life. Can we get this over with?”
“How has he not heard you cuss?” Steph asks later, taking a bite of her mug cake. “Did he not hear you that one time you stubbed your toe in the cave showers? I’m pretty sure Cass could hear you shout the f-word from Hong Kong. You scared the bats off. I didn't even know it was possible to scare them off at this point.”
“‘The f-word,’” he mocks. “What are we, nine?”
“Well according to you, swearing offends your delicate sensibilities.”
“It’s not like I’m lying about anything important.” He rolls his eyes. “Besides, Jason already thinks I’m a goody-two-shoes. Why not have fun with it?”
“Uh, because this could end with you getting shot? Guy’s always been on a hair trigger when it comes to you.”
“He’s not going to shoot me for telling him I don’t swear.”
“What if he finds out on a bad day?”
“I’ll dodge.”
She throws her spoon at him. “Ugh, whatever. Sorry for caring.”
He catches the spoon easily, and steals a bite out of her mug. “I’ll be fine,” he mumbles through her protests and a mouthful of chocolatey dessert. “Seriously, he’s not going to shoot me for this. Besides, how would he even find out with you backing me?”
“Oh, I’ll back you alright,” she says, yanking the spoon out of his hand as he goes in for another bite. “I want to be able to say ‘I told you so,’ when this backfires spectacularly.”
“It’s not going to backfire. It’s one lie, and it’s not like I make a habit of it.”
“Did you just say that to me? I know you didn’t just say that to me.”
“I meant swearing.”
She bops him on the nose with her spoon, and he retaliates by sticking his fingers in her mug to scoop out some cake and shove it in his mouth.
He nearly gets thrown out the window of his own apartment. Worth it.
“I’m saving myself for marriage.”
“Aren’t you an atheist?”
“I believe in STD’s.” Granted, vigilantism is a bigger risk of transmission than sex will ever be, but there are strict protocols in place when it comes to blood and other bodily fluids. Contact should be minimized, gloves should be on at all times, and if exposure can’t be avoided completely, clean the area thoroughly and return to the cave as soon as possible for risk minimization and testing. Wayne Enterprises is also one of the leading companies working on a cure for HIV and AIDs.
Between all of this Jason really shouldn’t believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth, but Jason has also always had a lot of preconceived notions on who Tim is as a person. If that leaves a huge, gaping blind spot where his lie detector should be, who is Tim to complain?
“How am I supposed to know? I’ve never embezzled anything.”
“No, I’ve never drank. I’m nineteen.”
“I haven’t tried weed either, Hood.”
“I’m not the biggest fan of wearing dresses.”
“I can’t lie to Batman.”
“I’ll have you know all my space missions were Bat-approved.”
“I actually kind of love press conferences.”
“I graduated high school with a 4.1 GPA.”
“I’m not a stalker.”
Okay, he might have a problem.
Part of Tim despaired that it was so easy. Someone raised by Batman and trained by the League of Assassins should not be this easy to lie to. Then again, Tim has lied to both Batman and Ra’s al Ghul with varying degrees of success, so maybe it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. Still, those lies had effort put into them. He was almost insulted by how easily Jason had accepted everything he’d said so far, even if certain preconceived notions were doing the heavy lifting for him.
The other, bigger part of Tim was having a blast.
When he turns around Cass is watching him, clearly repressing a smile. “Having fun?”
“So much fun,” he tells her, returning the hug she gives him enthusiastically. “Steph tell you what I was doing?”
“She thinks you’re going to get shot.”
“What do you think?”
“She’s probably right.”
“Worth it.” He stretches, letting his spine crack. “Feel like helping me out?”
She laughs in his face. “No. Call me when you need first aid.”
“He’s not actually going to shoot me.”
“You’re not nearly as confident about that as you say you are.”
“At least it would be funny.”
“I don’t think you getting shot is funny.”
“Not even about this?”
“Maybe a little funny, if you dodge,” she admits, and then tugs on his hair until he leans down enough for her to smack a kiss on his forehead. “Maybe this will teach you a lesson.”
“I can’t believe the guy you picked after me is such a goddamn square,” Jason complains. “He’s never even embezzled anything? Seriously? That’s like, vigilante 101. He doesn’t steal, he doesn’t swear, he graduated with a fucking 4.1 because if he takes that stick out of his ass for one second-“
Jason’s well and fully into his tangent now, barely even talking to Bruce anymore as he paces back and forth. Bruce frowns and opens his mouth, before shutting it as he catches Tim frantically waving his arms behind Jason. He raises an eyebrow, and Tim points to the phone in his hand. Bruce takes his out and checks it.
Go with it.
Bruce levels him with an unimpressed look.
Remember my 16th bday?
He sighs heavily. “Sorry, Lucius is having trouble with some of the latest bat tech designs,” he tells Jason, who has realized that Bruce is ignoring him and is looking twitchier every moment his complaints go unacknowledged. “As for Tim, I don’t know what to tell you, chum. He has…very strong convictions.”
It’s basic psychology, really.
Boiling frog theory. Put a frog in boiling water, and it jumps right out. But if you raise the temperature slowly enough, the frog won’t notice and will let itself boil alive. Real frogs will still jump out of the pot, because unlike Tim they have self preservation instincts, but human minds aren’t quite so quick to pick up on it.
Tim vaguely wonders who the frog in this scenario is. Jason, who seemingly hadn’t noticed when the line crossed from “dubiously plausible,” to “absolutely unbelievable for anyone who has spent more than five minutes at a time with him,” or Tim, who has slowly escalated his lies in a way that is definitely going to get him shot at some point when Jason finds out.
And it is when Jason finds out. Tim needs a three page spreadsheet to keep track of all the shit he’s sold him. He might be able to keep it up, if he tells everyone he’s ever met what he’s doing, convinces them to stay on his side of it, and erases all past, present, and future footage of himself, but that’s a little too much effort for a gig that’s starting to get old.
“You got B in on it too?”
“I told him if he backed me up I wouldn’t bill him for the extensive therapy bills I’m wracking up because of him.”
“You go to therapy?”
It’s out of his mouth before he even thinks about it. “Yeah, every second Wednesday.”
Jason blinks at him, and then squeezes the bridge of his nose. “Was that a lie?”
“…maybe,” Tim says sheepishly.
“Are you fucking kidding me? What else have you been lying about?”
“It might be easier to just send you the spreadsheet.”
“The— Replacement.” Jason’s voice has gone flat, and he’s glaring at him, fury so powerful his hand is almost shaking where he’s holding Tim up by the collar.
“Yeah?” Tim asks nonchalantly, as if he’s not dangling from said collar to the point where the toes of his sneakers barely brush the floor.
“You’ve got five seconds to run before I shoot you.”
He’s ready for it, and when Jason drops him he’s already pushing away, dropping and rolling when two bullets whiz past him right on the five second mark. Both wide, because as much as he hates to admit it Jason’s gone soft.
“Go to hell, Pretender!” Jason hollers behind him.
Tim cackles, pausing just one moment to raise both middle fingers and shout, “Fuck you too!” before disappearing into the rafters.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #17
May 3-10 2024
Vice President Harris announced 5.5 billion dollars to build affordable housing and address homelessness. The grants will go to 1,200 communities across all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico. 1.3 billion will go to HUD's HOME program which builds, buys, and rehabs affordable housing for rent or ownership. 3.3 billion is headed to Community Development Block Grants which supports housing as well as homeless services, and expanding economic opportunities. Remaining funds focus on building housing for extremely low- and very low-income households, Housing for people struggling with HIV/AIDS, transitional housing for those with substance-use disorder, and money to support homeless shelters and homeless prevention programs.
At the 3rd meeting of the Los Angeles Declaration group in Guatemala Security of State Blinken announced $578 million in new US aid to Latin America. The Los Angeles Declaration is a partnership between the US and 20 other nations in the Americas to address immigration, combat human trafficking, and support economic development and improved quality of life for people in poor nations in the Americas. The bulk of the aid, over $400 million will go to humanitarian assistance to the Venezuelan people. Inside of Venezuela over 7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance due to decades of political and economic instability. Over 7 million more have been forced to flee the country and live in poverty across the Americas. The aid will help Venezuelans both inside and outside of Venezuela.
The Department of Energy lead an effort to get the G7 to agree to phase out coal by the early 2030s. The G7 is a collection of the 7 largest Industrial economies on Earth, the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Italy. To avoid catastrophic climate change the International Energy Agency believes coal needs to be phased out by 2035. However this has been a sticking point with the G7 since 1/3rd of Japan and 1/4th of Germany's energy comes from Coal. This agreement to phase out represents a major breakthrough and the US plans to press for even wider agreement on the issue at the G20 meeting in November.
President Biden announced a major investment deal in Racine, Wisconsin, site of the failed Trump Foxconn deal. In 2018 then President Trump visited Racine and declared the planned Foxconn plant "the eighth wonder of the world.". However the promised 13,000 jobs never materialized and the Taiwan based Foxconn after bulldozing 100s of homes and farms decided not to build. President Biden inked a deal with Microsoft for the land formally given to Foxconn which will bring 2,000 new jobs to Racine to help replace the 1,000 job losses during Trump's Presidency in the community.
200 tribal governments and the US territories of American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, published climate action plans. The plans were paid for by the Biden Administration as part of a 5 billion dollar Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program. The federal government is supporting all 50 states, territories, DC, and tribal governments to draft climate action plans, which will be used to apply for more than 4 billion dollars in grants to help turn plans into reality
As part of marking Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), the Biden Administration announced a number of action aimed at combating antisemitism and supporting the Jewish Community. This included $400 million in new funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. The Program has supported Synagogues and Jewish Community Centers with security improvements like bullet proof windows and trainings for staff in how to handle active shooter and hostage situations. The Department of Education issued guidance to all schools districts and federally funded colleges stressing that antisemitism is banned under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. These actions come as part of the Biden Administration's National Strategy To Counter Antisemitism, the first ever national strategy addressing the issue by any Administration.
USAID announced $220 million in additional humanitarian aid to Yemen. This new funding will bring US aid to Yemen over the last 10 years to nearly $6 billion. Currently 18 million Yemenis are estimated as needing humanitarian assistance, 9 million of them children, and the UN believes nearly 14 million face imminent risk of famine. The US remains the single largest donor nation to humanitarian relief in Yemen.
The Department of Interior announced nearly $150 million to help communities fight drought. The funds will support 42 projects across 10 western states. This is part of the President's $8.3 billion dollar investment in the nations water infrastructure over the next 5 five years.

My Thoughts on @quietasides 'Just Like You' Analysis (x) (x)
Okay, I'm going insane, I need to yap. I just read the two part analysis for the first time, and I have some background info on Simon Cowell that I wanted to tie into this since OP pointed out how many Simon references there are in JLY.
This bullet point list is about as organized as this post will be. After the cut I start quoting and talking about OP's analyses, elaborating on what I picked up on. I really tried to make this coherent.
Immediately I picked up on the overall themes/repeated concepts-
Louis comparing himself (and artists at large) to race horses, who are very notably worked until death and killed when they are no longer in peak condition.
The Weinstein case being shown in articles, including statements from his accusers, as well as various related and unrelated snippets and headlines about sexual abuse and specifically pedophilic sexual abuse.
"Everyone else here before me" repetitive themes of Louis not being the first artist to be used by the industry, with precedent of Weinstein's accusers and Pat Sephton.
Silencing and victims being too afraid to speak out, and various subtle calls for the industry to change. Subtle visual allusions to the GP having access to more info than they know because they choose not to look at what's in front of them.
Various allusions to One Direction and sometimes specifically Harry.
Thoughts on Part 1:
Okay. Louis being blurred out by the word "cash." He's a product, he's a dollar sign.
"Right to oppose despotism" I didn't know what despotism meant so I googled it. It's essential tyranny. Right to oppose a dickhead ruler who controls your life and fucks you over. So, Simon Cowell, in context.
Tumblr media
“Hairdresser with HIV pressured victim into having sex” headline comes up SO many times and I think the hairdresser with HIV part is less important, and it's meant to drive home that theme of being pressured into sex acts as an aspiring artist.
And it showing up on the same page as the name Pat (Sephton), tying in the theme of being a child or otherwise young when this pressuring typically occurs. And add what I talked about in my Simon Cowell post about his pedophilic sex parties he hosted with Max Clifford.
“In sentencing the judge said he had taken into account psychiatric issues...” I wonder if this is about the trend of pedophiles and rapists in the industry accusing or painting their victims as mentally ill, or crazy, to destroy their credibility. We see this all the time with artists being slandered because they were going to speak out about something. There's that theme of silencing and fear again.
The crossword being brushed over with transparent white paint makes me think it's conveying that the puzzle pieces and hints of what goes on in the industry are all there, just thinly hidden behind plausible deniability and distractions so few people ever figure it out GP-side. It's right in front of you, it's barely hidden.
The race horse tables. It's all about numbers in the industry. For horses it's times, for artists it's sales. Money. And that appearing with the lyric "same shit/stress." Again Louis saying this is nothing new, and he isn't the first.
The court thing reoccuring- contracts, being sued, lawsuits, all the settlements that abusers have with victims to avoid charges, this is all very common in the industry. Also "bounty pursuit" is very much how these moguls and industry folks see artists- a bounty, a pursuit towards money. Louis could be the Daring Guest, a speck in the wider industry who's daring enough to subtly speak about it.
The whole bit about the owners and the codes being old, this is a cycle, this is STANDARD, artists aren't just seen as objects by some shitty managers, the system is designed to treat them as walking dollar signs. This and the "gun reform" mention make me think Louis is calling for the standards in the industry to be changed, to be more humane.
"It's like we take, then backwards—form of distraction—enormous reaction—so we—instead of talking" Take, then backwards. They get a win, they get punished. Form of distraction is about the media and tabloids, how they control the narrative and distract the GP when they need to, enormous reaction is what the form of distraction wants to prevent. Instead of talking about the music industry's systemic abuse, distract with glitz and glamour.
Followed by another direct mention of sexual assault and victims being afraid to speak out.
The silhouette over Louis' shoulder is a clear metaphor for management, as an entity, contracts, whatever and whoever is keeping eyes on him.
Followed by another mention of sexual harassment with Cara Delevigne's story.
The three strongest themes are artists being dollar signs/objects akin to race horses, Simon Cowell, and sexual assault/pedophilic sexual assault. I think it's clear what this is getting at, maybe not specifically but broadly with what I've uncovered about Simon and what I know broadly about the music industry. Combine those entwined themes with the subtle calls for the industry to change, but fear holding victims back. It's starting to tell a story.
Half of the story with the 1D fonts on Story, comes after all of that set up for the main themes Louis is trying to convey. Simon of course owned One Direction since they were teenagers. Louis is saying we only know half of the story about Simon Cowell and One Direction, how we can find the bits and pieces of how this industry works, of Simon's pedophilic sex parties, but we don't know the other half of how 1D was affected specifically. But with Louis' repetition of him not being the first, and the Weinstein case being prevalent as an example of the past, I think the message he's trying to convey is clear.
Five pound notes for five members of 1D, again that money cash cow comparison, how we only know the glorious story of world famous boyband One Direction, but not the other half.
Followed by the hairdresser with HIV pressures victim into sex article again. I think this is poignant.
The bits about "his downfall not being by chance" is about the fact that most big exposures of pedophiles and rapists in the industry are planned. The Diddy case, for example. A kingpin who gets thrown under the bus is thrown under the bus for a reason, because this industry has ways of protecting the kingpins it values. Diddy was caught on purpose, Weinstein was exposed on purpose. If Simon's crimes ever get exposed on a major scale, it will be by design. The info about Simon is out there (at least as off 2024-25) but he won't have his downfall until the people above him want him to.
"...Even life under—radar in the UK can—better than life at home where economic opportunities can be extremely poor..." And of course alluding to the fact that Louis and the boys (and most aspiring artists) were promised the world in exchange for just a little bit of their human rights and sanity. Being under radar- constantly monitered or filmed- is better than being poor, right?
"Weinstein’s disgrace and defenestration are not happening now wholly by chance. They are part of a changing world." That call for change again, the outright statement of Weinstein's downfall being planned. Louis is telling us how the industry functions as a precedent for the side of the story with Simon that he can't outright tell.
A hallway where it's dark and things are hidden behind closed doors? The metaphorical sense of things being hidden behind closed doors, but also the related metaphor of "behind the curtains" in industry speak, and also also the fact that there's been multiple instances in my recent research of illegal sexual "favours" taking place in LITERAL dark rooms behind literal closed doors, usually in strip clubs or members-only clubs (Groucho club, anyone?)
...And Louis being placed in that hidden hallway. Being whited out with that transparent paint that shows what's going on if you were to pay close attention, that transparent paint of distraction that the GP accepts, so that nobody pays attention to what's right in front of them.
"Look" and "Do" being important makes me think he's saying to look at what's happening, and then do something about it. Observe the information, then take action. It's another subtle call for change.
Alongside Pat Sephton's obituary. According to OP's post, a 14 year old who performed naked on a stage. This being an older example, again hammering in that Louis isn't the first. "Like everyone else here before me" and then he proceeds to show Weinstein, Weinstein's accusers, and Pat Sephton's names.
And references to Simon Cowell again after that. Really clearly outlining the message, I think.
The bit about a powerful and dangerous weapon, which I think is less about Louis and more about the industry and it's ability to "bomb" someone's credability in an instant- a very powerful ability to possess- if they speak out. Or even the bomb that is controlling when a kingpin gets exposed, also a very powerful weapon to possess.
Followed by the hairdressing pressured victim into sex headline, again.
Thoughts on Part 2:
Starting off strong with the word "watch" telling us to open our eyes.
“open secret—for years that—is a sexual—epic scale but—the horrific—the public.” With THIS basically saying "look at the sex abuse in the industry it's literally an open secret."
“...He was surrounded by yes-men and despite stories of his appalling behavior being rife in the industry, senior figures queued up to laud the producer...” This being followed by the bullhorn is showing us that these kingpins are protected up until they're not. They're lauded and praised and beloved- until the industry needs a scapegoat, or they've stepped out of line. Bullhorn! Weinstein in the news. Bullhorn! Diddy in the news. This is the cycle.
Followed by Cara Delevigne's accusation of sexual harassment. Perhaps highlighting how victims only feel safe to come out with their stories after their abuser is already disgraced by the GP? How the industry controls when victims speak out with this planned downfall pattern?
(It's an open secret -> industry protects abusers until -> bullhorn! planned exposure -> victims feel safe speaking out)
And followed by the bit about fear of speaking out again.
"late because—in the same—2013 he said—make good" This stuck out to me because Jeff Azoff started scouting Harry in 2013. The Azoffs are known for being big kingpin names and they have some sex abuse stories attached to them, but they haven't been bullhorned yet. Shelli Azoff sexually abused her maid for a year, Irving Azoff supposedly funded a sex trafficking plot. The rabbit hole with that family goes DEEP, I need to make a post about it.
"if only you knew" "stared at me like I was a piece of meat." These being right alongside each other on screen feels very intentional. He's saying "if only you knew how I was treated. That other half of the story you don't have."
That image ripping away to uncover “I wish I had—have been braver—I will be when I—that sexual abuse—in Hollywood” is continuing the story. "If only you knew I was stared at like a piece of meat, I wish I had been braver, I will be [braver] when (something comes out about Simon?), that sexual abuse in hollywood." Look I know I'm probably insinuating a lot here but this is what the video is conveying, to me at least.
The dog barking poem, I feel is an analogy for the constant expectations and constant surveillance in that industry. Always being barked at to do this, do that, perform better, sell more. Day and night. "it never stops."
By Louis' photo the bit about “brothers who grew up—the abuse they suffered” and 1D being as close as brothers, I think it's another 1D reference with them being teens when they formed and growing up as essentially brothers in this industry. With the Simon is a rich twat bit, and then court being mentioned again. Being threatened via contracts or with threats of lawsuits is very common in this industry, and Syco contracts and known to be INSANE (see: Katie Waissel)
2 speakers but one is off and one is on. I think this is another "half of the story" bit. Followed by the photo of Louis edited onto the article about Weinstein's victims, and followed by the phrase "I was a kid, and I was petrified." Louis mixing himself into the precedent is an even more clear show of Simon being another Weinstein, and Louis being another victim who was too young to know what they were getting into.
The part where the Weinstein article highlights the line about "him sexually abusing women over decades" which then switches onto the race horse article and a circled letter H. I think this is meant to portray the power dynamic in the industry, and maybe an allusion to Harry? The Weinstein and sexually abusing over decades bit, then it shows the H and race horse bit. So far, these kinds of stories being laid out have alluded to Louis, but the H? Is that alluding to Harry as well? 1D on the whole has been alluded to multiple times, so it's plausible.
“unsatisfactory” experiences for owners... want to see “fair, transparent and responsible practices in place to remove significant actual and perceived barriers to new owners” joining the sport" Another call for change, to stop treating the "race horses" (artists) so inhumanely.
Then Louis sets off a bomb and walks away, the same Louis cutout who's pointed to different bits in the articles. The call for change followed by Louis bombshelling the truth, essentially saying he's shown us the missing half of the story through this video, and he's been calling us to LOOK and DO about it. He's telling us to pick up what he's put down.
I don't think OP picked up on this in their post but the guitar doodle encases the phrase "brain-dead bigot" and then of course the jetski -> Simon Cowell reference. Louis called Simon a brain-dead bigot. Thought that was very important to add.
So Simon Cowell, followed by "come and see" and "no further warnings needed." Louis again saying "Look at this, it's visible, I've given all the warnings and precedent with Weinstein and whatnot, so now take that knowledge and look at Simon. Look at my story I'm telling."
"I thought I was safe" "I asked him if he knew I could sing." Louis hammering in that point that this is all precedent that explains his untold story. His face is on the screen during this bit. History is literally repeating itself so clearly he can use past stories to explain his own.
End Notes:
This was driving me crazy, sorry it's such a long post, but I hope I got my point across with what I was seeing. OPs analysis is amazing and I'm just expanding on it with my own thoughts and connections/themes I picked up on, mostly aided by my background knowledge on the music industry and Simon Cowell. I'm not saying I'm definitely correct, but I'm curious to hear people's thoughts.
The Simon Cowell post I mentioned is under my "The Music Industry is FUCKED UP" tag, it gets into alllll of the evidence I have for Simon Cowell being a pedophile and running underage sex parties during some of the years 1D was active & before.
The stuff about Groucho club I'm planning a post on, but basically: pedophilic sex trafficking. Again.
And the Katie Waissel mention on Syco contracts is about her reading her original Syco contract on her twitter a while ago, which I also plan to make a post about.

I didn’t set my alarm last night; I got fired yesterday. Some would prefer that I say I was “let go” because it would sound nicer. There is nothing nice about what is happening. And “reduction in force” sounds like it was thoughtful and organized with a higher, better goal at the end. That’s a sanitized fantasy version of what it was: I was fired along with ~2400 colleagues that didn’t just reduce the workforce, it rewrote the country’s intention and ability to address public health issues, basic and emergencies.
It is a small consolation that losing my job had nothing to do with my job performance nor the importance of my work. I am (was…) great at my job and the important contribution of public health is indisputable. Well, indisputable to those who don’t think health should be a privilege. But let’s avoid the obvious elephant in the room, for now at least.
I got into public health in my mid-20’s, when I started my PhD in Health Education and Health Promotion. I wanted to make a difference. I’m a sucker for a Pollyanna dream such as dedicating your professional life to trying to make the world a better place for everyone and it will matter. I’d choose it again. I have been so proud of the work that I’ve done. And I have worked alongside absolutely incredible people from all over the world. Each of us trying to make the world a little healthier, life a little better for everyone.
It’s always been easy for me to see the connection between global health and domestic health. Simplistically put, even if you don’t care about your neighbors (which I do), it’s obvious that the health and stability in their home is related to the possibility of health and stability in yours.
Most of what I’ve worked on over the years has been reproductive health and HIV. I also worked on Zika, COVID, and Mpox outbreaks when CDC stood up emergency responses. We worked tirelessly during emergency responses because we never gave up, but we were exhausted. We worked all the time, often with a shortage of information, trying to do whatever we could to make things better for as many people as we could. We would identify and count cases, analyze patterns of transmission and impact of exposure, all to inform recommendations for prevention, care and treatment that were evidence-based. We never stopped trying.
The first time I was in an HIV ward in the late 90’s, I passed out. I literally fainted from the absolute pain and suffering that was all around me. At times I have chastised myself for that response, knowing that mine was psychological pain at witnessing others in the state of desperate suffering. There was no treatment. Other times I am grateful that I am hardwired to care about others so deeply. It is what has driven me. The work that we did over the years on HIV prevention, care and treatment changed the impact of HIV. A clinic in that state is rare to find these days. Or, was rare. The ending of our contribution to global public health will undoubtedly reverse the gains that we made over the years. People will die from things we could have prevented.
I have been doing a lot of hot yoga as my primary coping strategy this year. I love it because I can sweat a lot and no one cares. I leave each class drenched. Yesterday, I silently sobbed throughout the class, tears splashing down on my towel with audible force, mucus running down my face. I couldn’t stop. I cried for all of the people who will be hurt as a result of what is happening, the people who will not get their medications and support, access to care and treatment. I cried for the immigrants who are being treated inhumanely, without due process. I cried for the disruption to the local economy to have so much job loss, for the households that will struggle to support themselves. And of course, I cried for the loss of my career, for which I have dedicated 30 years of my life and of which I am so proud and eternally grateful. I’d choose it again.
I did not set my alarm this morning, but I hear the alarm bells ringing loudly and I am amplifying them. Do you hear them? Are you awake yet?

More employees working for the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention received notices on April 1 informing them that they were being laid off from the agency.
Many of those employees have organized a group called “Fired But Fighting.” Thank you to Health Beat for providing some of the reporting used in this story.
