summer is here, school is over and you have way too much free time on your hands. so unless you want to spend your whole days with your eyes locked on a screen, here's an in- depth guide on what to do this summer, or whenever!!

learn a new language - trust me, speaking more than one language is a skill that everyone should have, and it always comes in handy. you can watch tv shows, movies or youtube videos in your target language, read beginner books, use apps (not duolingo though.. ) and even just listen to music!! just expose yourself to the language as much as you can, even better if you know anyone you can have conversations with. you could also learn sign language!!

journal or scrapbook - writing down your feelings really helps understanding your own self more. you can try doing shadow work to really dive deep, or just write whatever you feel in that moment. it doesn't have to become a chore, and remember, write for yourself and not as if someone else was going to read!! as for scrapbooking, just print out some nice photos and decorate the pages with stickers, drawings, fun colored paper.. whatever you want, just be creative!!

make art - it doesn't have to look perfect, remember that all art is beautiful in its own way. even if you think you're not good at it, just create, it will help you feel better & you'll also get better with time!! you can draw, paint, sculpt, do pottery, etc. you don't have to follow any guidelines, just buy a random sketchbook, bring out your inner child and do whatever you feel like doing

learn how to play an instrument - this can be a bit expensive, but if you have any instrument in your house that you've never used, it might be a great time to start learning it!! you don't necessarily need to take classes, you can easily find tutorials on youtube, even though it might be harder to learn by yourself. but making music is a really fun activity & good for the soul

reading and writing - i will never recommend reading enough !! everyone should read. it helps you learn new things, understand different perspectives, expand your vocabulary, and so much more. i know books can be expensive, but you can always try to buy them at flea markets, or ask a friend/family member to lend you some. and just in case, there are always some sites where you can read books online for free, like zlibrary!! you can read before going to bed instead of staying on your phone (which is sooo bad for your sleep), at the beach while tanning or outside while getting some fresh air. and if reading books inspires you, you can try to write something!! i'm not saying you have to write a 600 page book, but you can try to write small stories, or poetry, and who knows, someday you might actually write a book! if you want to get published, there are some small literary magazines you can find on social media that publish the works of small writers, it can be a great way to start. you can also always post your works here on tumblr, substack, or any social media platform!! you could also try to write the story for a movie and start screenwriting, if you're into cinematography

research interesting topics - now that school isn't forcing you to study things that maybe you don't care about, you can study whatever you want !! remember, knowledge is power, and with the internet, you basically have the world in your hands. you can watch a youtube video, read a book, or simply research on websites (make sure they're reliable though). you can also take online courses!! i might make a post on ideas for what to research??

start a new hobby - your life can't only be made of school/work, sleep, and a screen. you need hobbies that you actually like and that make you feel good. some of these can be: baking and cooking, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, jewelry making, nail art, makeup, photography, editing, blogging/vlogging, coloring, candle making, soap making, perfume making, modeling, origami, sewing, making diy stuff, chess, puzzles, acting, singing, flower arranging, meditating, lego building, trying new hairstyles or outfits, doing animations, discovering new music, sudoku, the things i previously wrote, and probably a million other activities i can't think of right now

stay active - moving you body is good for both your physical and mental health, i'm sure we all know that. you can go on walks or runs in the nature with your headpones on, or do any sport that you like- some ideas: swimming, dancing (ballet, hip hop, modern, ecc) , tennis, martial arts (judo, karate, taekwondo, ecc), volleyball, basketball, athletics, gymnastics, football, archery, fencing, table tennis, boxing, surfing, rowing, hockey, horseback riding, softball, golf, biking, figure skating, rollerblading, skating.. you don't need to do it competitively (unless you want to), as long as you're having fun and moving your body. you can also do workouts, like yoga or pilates, at home or outdoors, or go hiking.

watch movies, tv shows, or documentaries - it can always be a good learning experience, or just something fun and relaxing that isn't mindlessly scrolling. a bonus: after you've watched something, write a very long, detailed and in-depth review in your journal. you can also post it wherever you want (like letterboxd, to fight all the one liners)

hang out - with friends, family, or even by yourself !! (i know, i know, it can be scary). you can do anything, as long as you're with the right people everything is fun, but here's some ideas: have a picnic, go to the beach, go to a water park, have a baking contest, do temporary tattoos, go to a concert, go out to eat, do a one day trip, go on a road trip, take a walk in the nature, go hiking, go to a trampoline park, go to an amusement park, visit a museum, go thrifting or shopping, have a board games night, try out a new cute cafe or bakery, do an escape room, have a karaoke night, have a movie marathon, and so much more!!

I spent a lot of energy writing a follow up post to the Trump portrait. I explained how the lighting was done and how that sinister effect was achieved. And I theorized why they lit it like that.

I was writing from the perspective that a seasoned professional photographer took the presidential portrait.

But roughly 50% of my post ended up being dead wrong.

It turns out Trump's photographer had never used studio lights before in his life. He was studying a beginner photography course on YouTube to prepare for the shoot. And he had no idea how to place the lights.

In other words, he didn't really know what he was doing.

I don't know why I didn't consider that possibility. Everyone in Trump's orbit is incompetent.

I want that energy back. I'm running on fumes and I was duped by a guy who shined the key light at Trump's hair instead of his face.

I guess the post will just die in the drafts now.

Don’t think for a second that Thanos isn’t 1000% an attention whore.

He loves interacting with fans over social media - posting thirst traps, pictures of the studio, what he’s eating and doing throughout the day. He absolutely eats up the attention so much so that he actually reads every single comment, DM and reactions to his posts. He’ll even give his time to entertain his fans with small conversations or comment replies… mostly the hot girls though.

He’d follow mostly his high list friends, models, other big artists or crude and outlandish content, but his following lists aren’t that high in number.

The high he gets being in the spotlight fuels his ego too much that he’s so disconnected from reality. The way normal people live.

Maybe you call call it a prophecy or fate, but one night, he had one of those “man takes a psychedelic and has empathy” moments. Of course he’s on that shit like, 24/7, but this one night it was different. He was alone. The shit he took must have been laced with something because it was good. So good that he decided to take a more private approach to social media.

Creating a burner account.

He’d post random things like his scenery on a run, his morning coffee, a picture of his vinyl collection. Simple things in his life that brought him joy. His explore page was now full of art, beginner artists posting their music, and photography. Honestly if his friends found out about the shit he liked, he’d be roasted relentlessly.

And after a few weeks, he found himself using this account that no one knew or followed more than his actual, blue check-marked profile.

Thanos found it refreshing, being half detached from what he was used to. Pictures of his friends cars, expensive outfits and luxuries that once were just a dream to him all those years ago.

One night, lounging in his bed after a long day of meetings for projects, he scrolled his explore page and found you. A beautiful face posing with a cherry blossom branch.

His heart almost leaped up his throat when he tapped on your profile. All your bio stated was your first name, where you were from and a few emojis of your interests.

You didn’t have much, like him, but you posted the same things he did. Your coffee, your food, the scenery of where you took your walks. You didn’t post your face much, but out of the 15 posts you had, 2 of them were you.

Thanos practically vibrated looking at your sweet smile and all the same interests he had. Going back and forth between the 2 pictures - god he wished you had more - he analyzed every detail of your face, engraving it inside his mind. He felt like a rabid dog, not knowing what to even do with himself… he craved more. It was an emotion unlike anything he’d experienced.

Sitting on your couch late at night, bundled up in a fuzzy blanket with a snack, your phone vibrated by your thigh.

Writing Notes: Cookbook

Whether you want to turn your own recipes into a cookbook as a family keepsake, or work with a publisher to get the most viral recipes from your blog onto paper and into bookstores, making a cookbook is often a fun but work-intensive process.

How to Make a Cookbook

The process of making a cookbook will depend on your publishing route, but in general you’ll need to work through the following steps:

Concept: The first step of making a cookbook is to figure out what kind of cookbook this will be. Your cookbook can focus on a single ingredient, meal, region, or culture. It can be an educational tome for beginners, or a slapdash collection of family favorites for your relatives. If you’re looking to get your cookbook published, a book proposal is a necessary step towards getting a book deal, and can also help you pin down your concept.

Compile recipes: If you’ve been dreaming of writing a cookbook, chances are you probably already know some recipes that have to be included. Make a list of those important recipes and use that as a jumping-off point to brainstorm how your cookbook will be organized and what other recipes need to be developed. If you’re compiling a community cookbook, reach out to your community members and assemble their recipes.

Outline: Based on your guiding concept and key recipes, make a rough table of contents. Possibly the most common way to divide a cookbook is into meals (appetizers, breakfast, lunch, dinner) but cookbooks can also be divided by season, raw ingredients (vegetables, fish, beef), cooking techniques, or some other narrative structure.

Recipe development: Flesh out your structure by developing beyond your core recipes, if needed, and fine-tuning those recipes which need a bit more work.

But if having a print book is important to you, there are many options. You can print and staple together a short cookbook, zine-style. Many copy shops will also offer options for wire-bound cookbooks, and there are resources online that will print bookstore-quality softcover or hard-cover books for a fee.

Community cookbooks: A special subset of self-published cookbook made up of recipes from multiple individuals, usually to raise money for a cause or organization. Working with a group has the advantage of a large pool of recipes and testers, and is a great way to share your recipes with a larger audience while also supporting a cause you believe in.

Through a publishing house: If you think your cookbook has a wider audience, you may want to seek out a mainstream publishing house. Get a literary agent who can to publishers who can connect you with publishers who are interested in your cookbook. Large publishing houses don’t usually accept pitches from individuals, but you can reach out to small, local publishers without an agent as intermediary. To publish a cookbook through a publishing house, you’ll typically need a book proposal outlining your concept, audience, and budget.

Things to Consider Before Making a Cookbook

Before embarking on your cookbook project, it’s a good idea to get organized, and to figure out what kind of cookbook you want to make.

Photography: More so than other texts, cookbooks often include visual accompaniment. Beautiful pages of full-color photos are expensive, which is one reason publishers like to work with bloggers who can style and photograph their own food. Not all cookbooks need photos, however. Some of the most iconic cookbooks rely on illustrations, or words alone. Figure out what role, if any, visuals will play in your book.

Audience: Are you turning recipe cards into a keepsake family cookbook, or selling this cookbook nationwide? Your intended audience will greatly influence how you write and publish your cookbook, whether it’s vegans, college students, or owners of pressure cookers. You’ll need to consider your audience’s cooking skill level, desires, and where they buy their food.

Budget: Once you have a vision for what you want your cookbook to be, budget your time and resources. Do you need help to make this book? The answer is probably yes. Assemble a team of people who understand your vision and know what kind of commitment will be involved.

Recently, I submitted a piece to be exhibited in a local art nonprofit’s gallery for the month of February. Now I am feeling all sorts of things about having my lace in an exhibition for the first time. It's making this silly little hobby I picked up on a whim from the internet feel so much more 'real'.

While I've dedicated a lot of time to learning needle lace over the last few years, I still often feel like a beginner in over my head. There is just so much to learn with lace-making, and I have just scratched the tip of the iceberg. I am always looking for the next way to improve and the next technique to learn. This leads me to not recognize and appreciate what I have already learned and am capable of.

Having to get out, remount, frame, and submit a piece I finished 2 years ago forced me to stop and reflect on my work. I had gotten so wrapped up in what was next that I never took the time to give the finished piece the care and praise it deserved. It looked so professional when I got it into its frame. I had a big ‘wow! I actually made that, with my own two hands!!’ moment with giddy giggles when I hung it on my wall. I felt proud of the work in a way I hadn't before and was keen to take it to the exhibition.

When I went to the exhibition’s opening night, I was so wrapped up in admiring the other works that I almost walked right past my own. I think that was exactly what I needed. There and then, I could see my lace from a perspective of just appreciation- the same kind I was giving to all the other pieces.

I didn’t hang around to see if others admired it, because that wasn’t what it was about for me. I needed to share it offline to make myself realize that my little hobby is also art. That it can be both simultaneously.

The strangest part is, this isn’t the first time I’ve exhibited this piece, or artwork in general. Shortly after I finished this lace, I entered it in the local county fair. I grew up loving the community entries and participated when I could, but hadn’t for a number of years. The ladies who checked the piece in were very excited, which of course made me happy, but none of the process of entering it made me stop and think about my work in the way this exhibition had.

I also used to enter art shows and competitions frequently with my photography and digital art. I’ve had pieces hung in DC at Capitol Hill. I’ve placed in international, national, and local competitions. I’ve won best of show, I’ve not placed at all, and everything in between. I thought I knew what to expect putting this lace on display, but it changed those expectations and transformed my outlook on making.

It’s easy for me to write my own skills off. I think to myself “Of course, I know how to do what I already do, how else would I do it??”. I don’t stop to contemplate how I gained that skill and the time and work that went into using it.

Putting this little hobby on exhibition was my wake-up call to give my artistic endeavors credit and love. This doesn’t mean I will let myself become stagnant in my learning or making. However, I need to slow down, stop, recognize, and appreciate what I've already accomplished (even if the project isn't finished yet).

Creating Your Own Semester 🌿

(A 3-Month Journey Through Your Passions—Multiple Subjects, One Semester)

Not in school anymore but still love learning? Maybe you've gotten tired of just doomscrolling all day and feeling your hobbies completely fade into obscurity. This post is for you. Basically, we're going to be building your own little 'semester' build entirely around YOU and your interests.

You might be exploring philosophy, learning how to code, studying art history - all of these things are valid and manageable with the outline below.

Step 1: Picking Your Subjects

Just like a traditional semester at a university, you want to take courses that interest you. I'd suggest a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 in order to get the full experience. Try to do at least one in-depth course, something that's basically a class you would take if you could make it out of thin air. These are just ideas and examples of the kinds of courses you can try coming up with!

Making a 'name' for your course can make it even more fun.

Step 2: Build Your Syllabus & Goals

Having solid expectations for yourself is a plus for something like this. You want to truly make a syllabus for each 'class' you are taking.

Look up syllabus examples. Figure out what you like and dislike about each one you look at. Here is a good example of creating one for beginners.

The best way to build the syllabus is by first establishing goals. For example, "At the end of my coding course, I want to be able to make a short video game", "At the end of my literature course, I want to have read at least 3 classic novels and written short stories inspired by the writing styles I've read." Reword this for your syllabus to be something like 'By the end of this course, the student will be able to analyse key themes in classic literature such as identity, morality, and freedom; etc etc etc' <- this should be a list.

Establish your 'course materials'. You'll want to do some research to identify primary textbooks or resources to use. Maybe a coding lesson website like freeCodeCamp, or maybe a good book on classic literature that will walk you through what you need to know. It should be easy to understand and written in a scholarly way. You will also want to include any software, or additional material you need. Essays, podcasts, videos, documentaries, etc.

Create a weekly breakdown - as you would see in a regular syllabus. You'll want 12 weeks, thinking logically on what you can and want to accomplish. You should make sure that your final 2 weeks focus on a large final project. You will iron this all out as you go.

You want Month 1 to focus on Foundation (history, intro texts, key figures), Month 2 on Exploration (case studies, projects, media deep-dives), and Month 3 on Creation or Synthesis (personal project, essay, zine, video game, story, whatever suits).

Optional: a grading structure for yourself.

Step 3: Crafting Your Weekly Lesson Plan

A true semester means balancing multiple subject in one week and having to use your time wisely. You want to have a good sense of time management and figure out just how much time you're willing to commit.

Each week should have - 1) Primary material: One main thing to read/watch/listen to. 2) Supplemental: Optional but flavorful extras. 3) Reflection: A short journal prompt or creative task. 4) Expression: Make something

Choose which days each week are for which class. Coding on Mondays and Wednesdays with Philosophy and Photography on Tuesdays and Thursdays? Set up a calendar if needed.

Give yourself homework with due dates, but don't overwhelm yourself.

Step 4: The Final Project

You want to have something to show for all of this. Learning to learn is amazing and great, but actually putting the things you've learned into practice should be the true goal.

Some examples off the top of my head: essays, powerpoints (present to your friends, partner, siblings, stuffed animals), an art portfolio, a website, a video game, a gallery exhibition (you could do one irl and invite your friends, or make a virtual one), short story or poetry collection, personal essay or memoir, literary analysis, philosophical essay, documentary, research paper or thesis, artwork, etc etc.

Write out how long you think the project will take and factor that into your lesson plans and syllabus. Build the course around this, even.

Step 5: Putting it All Together

So now you want to... do the course. You've mapped everything out, you've developed a schedule and ideas. Now you just have to do it.

Get a notebook specifically for each 'class'. This can be digital or physical.

It will take you a couple of weeks to actually get this all planned out unless you have an audhd hyperfixation episode and vomit it all out in 2 days. Be patient.

Love yourself and slow things down if needed. You can change your course or syllabus at any time. Find something fun you want to add to the reading? Something you picked before not vibing anymore? Fix it.

hi hi hi anon!! first of all thank you so much for asking this question and second of all: I binge youtube, and go to car shows. And play videogames.

A little bit of (disclaimer?) info is that I was never really allowed to do anything in my life, and that included driving and working on anything mechanical. We're still in that phase of getting out this box and branching out, so in a sense, we're both beginners on this together :)

Youtube - So there's a lot of youtube channels out there that talk about cars (and of course other automotives) my picks are the really silly funny ones. I personally watch MartiniWorks, spearheaded by Alex Martini. This channel is mainly focused on history and drama and of course useless fun facts about cars I wish I can afford. He has builds like the junkyard Ferrari and racetrack S2000 that keeps blowing up in retaliation against the government - Hmm, not into the history aspect of things? Want something more hands-on? Still want it to be silly so it doesn't bore you to death? Look no further than Garbage Time ! This channel is focused on mainly restoring weird little creatures and the video lengths are not too terribly long to make you wish you were in math class instead. Things to expect: trying to run the engine with chocolate / WD40, replacing the coolant with Pepsi, and restoring weird goobers you've never seen in your life. - What if you have a car and want to work on it? Getting serious about it? Then I must introduce you to every car guy's holy grail, CHRISFIX. This channel is all about the specifics and step-by-steps on how to destroy modify your car. Or maybe you just like the guy. Or like knowing how people work on cars. Either way, ChrisFix is a wonderful channel if you're interested in actually working on cars! - "But I like experimental vehicles and racing and cool expensive builds!" We have a classic for you, then! TopGear showcases the latest and greatest of cars, from the Tuthill GT ONE road legal Le Mans race car to the Bentley Blower, if you're one to simply appreciate great pieces of work, or you're a history nerd with a knack for enjoying sarcastic commentary, you're looking at the right channel.

Car shows / meets - My first experience with cars was a car show I went to by myself. The show included supercars, built JDMs, local cars, bikes... pretty much everything you'd expect out of a car show. I even have a tumblr sideblog where I post my photography. My tip when going to shows is don't be afraid to ask around! Car guys are simple people. You can come up to them and say that you're just starting out and would like a little explanation on what's going on with the car in front of you, they'll be more than happy to entertain you! You'll even make friends along the way :) There's different things to expect when going to a show vs a meet, I recommend going to shows rather than meets because meets are more closed and most likely held just amongst people who own said cool cars.

Videogames - Videogames remain a great way to learn and be accustomed to cars, and there's a lot of titles out there like NFS, Burnout, Gran Turismo, etc... so which one is for you? - Most mainstream racing games like NFS and Forza Horizon focuses on the gaming aspect of things. If you're looking for something uncomplicated and fun, those games are the way to go. - Lets get a little bit technical. Wanna learn how to build an engine, but you don't want to ruin your own? Car Mechanic Simulator. I'll admit this isnt the most detailed, theres so many things going on with a car and so many different platforms and complications, but from a learning standpoint? Really great if you're just getting into it or want to learn names of different parts effectively! - Ohh. Maybe you're that type of person. Experimental tuning and racing person. Assetto Corsa / Competizione, iRacing, Gran Turismo is for you, buddy. There is a steep learning curve that will force you to learn about different specs and how they affect the car holistically, and if you're into that, then I don't see why not.

Prompt: Roleplay

Ben Solo did not consider himself to be a patron of the arts. He had managed to fail art class his freshman year of highschool, flunked the beginners music class his sophomore year, and hated the introductory photography class so much he switched classes in the first week. This theater class is his last hope to get the art credit that he needed to graduate highschool. 

So far in the semester, the class hadn’t been too bad. There was memorization and acting exercises, but all in all the class was pretty fun. Ben was excited to finish off his highschool career. 

One thing he did not expect was his massive crush on the British exchange student, Armitage Hux.

In the beginning, Ben thought Armitage was there for the same reason he was, just to get the stupid art credit. But, he soon realized that Armie actually liked acting. He put his heart into every small performance that he did, every monologue and improv game.

“You really like acting, don’t you?” Ben asked as he looked over the short script. It was for their final in the class, to put on a short 10 minute play. Armie and him were in a group with one other senior, one that has decided that they don’t need to practice, so it was just the two of them in Ben’s house. His parents were out of town, which is why he suggested they practice there.

“I find this class to be more agreeable than other art classes.” Armie answered, writing something down in his notebook.

“But you put a lot more effort into this class than anybody else.”

“I put this much effort into everything I do.”

“Yeah, but you smile when you do work for this class and seem to actually enjoy it.”

Armitage gave him an unimpressed look, then a gentle shove. Ben laughed and shoved back. That turned to a playful wrestling match, the two boys laughing as they fought each other. In the end, Armie came out on top, literally pinning Ben to the ground and sat on his waist. Ben panted and found himself staring at Armies lips. For the longest time, Ben dreamed about those soft looking lips on his. 

“Uh? Ben?” The words broke Ben out of his trance and he sheepishly pushed Armie off of him.

They went back to studying their lines innocently. Ben wanted to do well because he wanted Armie to be proud of him. 

“Do you want to practice together now?” Armitage asked after a few minutes.

“Kinda hard to do without Rose.”

“Well, we still need to make sure our performances and timing is great. I’ll read Rose’s parts.”

“Alright. Start from the beginning?”

“Of course.”

Armie cleared his throat and began to read off his lines. The play they chose was a comedy called The Wedding Story. Ben was the groom, Rose was the Bride, and Armie played the Storyteller. 

“ The bride at the tender age of 24-” Ben laughs, as directed. “WHAT? WHAT’S SO FUNNY?”

“She’s not even close to 24!” Ben said, putting emphasis in a way that would make their teacher proud.

“Now just wait a minute here, Buster Brown, whose story is this?”

“OURS!” The two yelled.

Then they broke down laughing. It was meant to be an absurd comedy, but probably not the best for the actors to burst out laughing.

Ben slowly quieted down, while Armitage kept laughing for a little longer. He was smiling so beautifully, and Ben couldn’t stop himself from closing the gap. Their mouths collided and the other boy was shocked still. It took a moment for Ben’s brain to catch up, and when it did, he panicked and pulled away quickly.

“I’m so sorry!” He buried his head in his hands, cheeks red with his embarrassment. 

Armie was silent. Ben mentally prepared himself to fail this final because of his own stupidity. But, then the other boy reached out and pried his hands away from his face. Ben looked into his pretty blue eyes and was prepared to face the worst rejection in his life. However, it never came because Armitage gave him a peck on the lips. He pulled away with a smile.

“Will you do me the honor of going on a date with me?” He asked.

Ben nodded enthusiastically before tackling Armie to the ground with a laugh.
