I think a major point that the live action completely misses and honestly a lot of people haven’t brought up. Is that in the original Nani WANTS Lilo around. Yes because Liko needs her and no one else understands Lilo like she does. But also because Nani needs Lilo just as much as Lilo needs her. Lilo was just as much all Nani had left same as Lilo. And to just not acknowledge that. To pretend like Nani stayed with Liko just out of some grander sense of responsibility and it’s “what she’s supposed to do” is to throw away their sisterhood.

The whole live action is Lilo talking about how smart and kind and amazing Nani is and how she has all these dreams and how she was really good at all these things until Lilo. Not once does it seem like Nani is even interested in Lilo or her hobbies outside of her responsibly to look after her as her older sister. She doesn’t care that Lilo’s been kicked out of hula class even tho Lilo in the OG loves hula, she immediately wants to take stitch back to the pound and then goes on a whole tirade about how you can’t let Lilo “trick” you into doing all these things, she doesn’t care when Lilo tries to show her the Elvis CD trick, She not there surfing with Lilo cause it’s an enjoyable pastime and something she loves and wants to share with her sister she’s there because it’s her new job.

Through out the movie Nani is part of the people that make Lilo feel ostracized which is completely antithetical to the original movie where Nani is fighting so hard to make the world a place Lilo feels accepted in.

So no the movie didn’t need to be a one to one remake of the original but it shouldn’t be a completely different movie either because then what’s the fucking point!!!

In this version I’m not even convinced that Nani actually LIKES Lilo.

And honestly the film doesn’t try and convince you that she should. Lilo is indistinguishable from any other movie child that is either a bundle of destructive chaos or just a mini adult both played for jokes.

honestly Kingdom Hearts presents itself in such a colourful way and distracts with all the Disney worlds, that it can be easy to forget that the lore of the setting is that there was once a conflict so devastating and bloody (fought mainly by child soldiers) that it shattered the world of light into pieces and the various worlds as they are formed in the aftermath, separate lights drifting, never to touch again

the present of the setting is a post-post-apocalyptic universe and the only remnants of the world before is the graveyard of fallen weapons at the epicenter of the conflict and the city founded by the sole survivor, built on the ruins of his original home

I want to make an aside about Jigen in the Zenigata and the Two Lupins movie, and in the Koike movies in general, because honestly he cracks me up. Dude’s just going along with the plot with no real idea of what’s going on and an absolutely glorious lack of fucks to give about it.

Lupin’s not at the Nowhere Upon Far train station ? Guess he’ll just board a moving train to come rescue him from the KGB. Zenigata is also on the train roof somehow ? Cool, fistfight time. Oh we gotta jump off a moving train into an absolutely frozen river a hundred meters below ? No second thoughts, just a quick prayer to every fucking god he knows and then YEET into the water we go. Have to go to Elsewhere Upon Wherever by car ? Lay down on the back seat and nap while Lupin drives halfway across Russia, only wake up when they arrive. Lupin’s stuck in a cabin with his evil double and Zenigata, and there was a huge explosion ? Heh. Sounds like a Lupin problem, Jigen will just keep napping. He does not give a single solitary flying fuck, he’s just here for the free sightseeing and fucking Lupin on the couch every other night.

On that note, I do want to point out the way Koike speedran the JigLup relationship because it’s just so funny to me (and also makes me deeply emotional). Back in Jigen’s Gravestone it was all "We’re just business partners, we’re not friends, if you get involved in my business I’ll actually shoot you", right up until they have to sell Jigen’s fake death to Yael and Lupin delivers the performance of the century, and Jigen’s probably thinking "dude take a chill pill, you’re overselling it, you wouldn’t react like that if I actually died- right ? RIGHT ????? LUPIN ??????" and from then on it was ride or die XD In Goemon’s Bloodspray Jigen is basically glued to Lupin’s hip and following along just to see what kind of nonsense is going to happen next, you don’t really get the sense that he gives any shits about Goemon aside from pitying him (do they actually know each other at that point ? they don’t really interact much) he’s just here for the entertainment. And by Fujiko’s Lie it’s painfully obvious that he and Lupin are fucking often and thouroughly. I mean look at this shit. These are not colleagues these are people who were inside each other just an hour ago.

Anyway. Love Koike!Jigen. He’s fucking incredible.

Rogue/Remy Evo ficlet excerpt from a thing I'm working on (read: scrambling, trying to finish for next week). I'm no longer sure if it will fit in the story it's intended for. But it was fun to write, so. Evo but this takes place AFTER high school.

“So you gotta girlfriend or what,” Rogue asked, when Remy turned down an offer for coffee and donuts and ‘honestly, just a lot of sex’ from Tabitha. “Because most guys think Tabby is a knockout.” 

She was reading, sort of, but it'd been a long time between page flips. Instead she was making tiny triangles with the page corners and avoiding eye contact in a way that felt really deliberate. 

He had a straw in his mouth and he chewed it hard. “Non,” and then because she eyed him suspiciously, like she could hear the omission, he added, “I did until recently.  A girl from back home, one of those off-on, grew up together so long didn't realize we was growing apart tragedies.”

“Oh,” Rogue frowned. “Uh, sorry, I guess.”

He waved off her concern, unwilling to delve further into that bit of history. Leave the past in the past and so on. Passons à autre chose. Hakuna matata. “Besides Tabitha’s not exactly my type.”

Rogue snorted. “Tall, blonde and crazy hot ain't your type?” 

He shrugged. 

“She cute, but I’m lookin’ for a spitfire. Someone who’ll keep me in line. Southern, but Deep South. Dark aesthetic, closet nerd. Pale as milk so’s I can drink her up.” He pulled the straw from his mouth and crammed it back into his drink – soda in a bottle – and took an innocent sip. “You know anyone like that?”

When he glanced up, Rogue’s cheeks were pink and her nose was back in the book. “No,” she returned, flatly. “And–”

He raised a brow. 

“I hate you.”
