Taikiken and The Art of Pushing Hands to Effectively Control Your Opponent in close range combat! Taikiken is a dynamic and powerful martial art that originated from the principles of Yiquan in China. It was further developed and refined in Japan by Kenichi Sawai, resulting in a system that emphasizes natural movement, mental focus, and holistic body alignment. One of the most distinctive aspects of Taikiken is its practice of pushing hands, an exercise designed to cultivate sensitivity, balance, and the ability to respond to an opponent’s energy. When practiced correctly, Taikiken pushing hands can be a highly effective way to understand and control an opponent, making it an invaluable asset for both self-defense and personal development. Historical Roots and Principles Taikiken’s fundamental principles come from Yiquan, an internal martial art created by the renowned Wang Xiangzhai. Yiquan focuses on developing internal power through standing meditation (zhan zhuang) and relaxed, natural movements. Kenichi Sawai encountered Yiquan while in China and brought these teachings back to Japan, eventually founding Taikiken. At its core, Taikiken prioritizes the cultivation of one’s intrinsic energy, also known as “ki” (in Japanese) or “qi” (in Chinese). By learning to harness and direct this internal energy, practitioners develop robust physical strength, a heightened sense of awareness, and a deep mind-body connection. Through this combination of physical and mental training, Taikiken becomes more than just a fighting system: it is a way to refine one’s overall health, vitality, and internal resilience. The Essence of Pushing Hands Pushing hands (or “tuishou”) is a training practice found in many internal martial arts. In Taikiken, pushing hands refines the practitioner’s ability to sense, follow, and redirect an opponent’s force without relying solely on muscular strength. Instead, practitioners use relaxation, proper structure, and timing to control the flow of energy and maintain balance. Sensitivity Training Central to Taikiken pushing hands is the development of tactile sensitivity. By keeping a relaxed, alert body and focused mind, practitioners learn to detect slight shifts in their opponent’s balance and energy. This heightened awareness is what allows them to anticipate and neutralize attacks. Rooting and Alignment In Taikiken, proper body alignment is essential. A strong “root” means the practitioner can ground themselves firmly, preventing an opponent from easily uprooting or throwing them off balance. At the same time, the practitioner learns to stay relaxed and to move fluidly, avoiding the rigidity that often causes tension and weaknesses in one’s defense. Yielding to Overcome The core philosophy behind Taikiken pushing hands is to never meet force with force. Instead, practitioners learn to blend with or yield to an incoming attack. By redirecting the opponent’s energy, the practitioner can guide it away from themselves and take advantage of the opponent’s momentary imbalance. Continuous Flow Pushing hands is not a static exercise. It involves continuous motion and adaptation, mirroring the fluidity of real self-defense scenarios. Practitioners keep their energy smooth and connected, ensuring that they remain adaptable to whatever the opponent may attempt. Controlling Your Opponent When effectively practiced, Taikiken pushing hands grants a distinct advantage: precise control over an opponent. This control arises out of a unique synergy between relaxed power, sensitive listening skills, and strategic redirection: Off-Balancing By detecting an opponent’s shifts in weight distribution, you can gently nudge or guide them off-balance. This technique requires minimal strength but demands refined timing and positioning. Timing and Distance Pushing hands instills an acute sense of timing and distance. In a real self-defense situation, this means you can effectively close the gap or maintain just the right distance to neutralize strikes and grapples.

Really do love how much of a hater Duke and Cass were at the start of Outsiders like Batman called in Jefferson to mentor them and they both immediately took offense to needing a babysitter. Cass got over it quickly enough once the action began but Duke was telling Black Lightning to keep up with him or get left behind and even when calmer Cass was enabling him 100% through every reckless moment and defiance of authority. They were so bad Bruce was forced to use emotional vulnerability at one point and go "Listen you are both precious to me I can't lose you." and even after that they were STILL like "Yeah fuck that let's go explore in the sewers by ourselves and then sneak off with the most dangerous woman in the world for training." The number one bat duo you cannot take your eyes off because both of them can be team players when they choose to but my god do they make you work for it to earn their trust and respect. Also they love the adrenaline rush of risky decisions just a lllliiiitle bit too much so even if they like you if you blink they still may vanish to go all Leroy Jenkins at the Big Bad, just for the fun of it.

experimentations ft. the Artpop queen herself
Silly little (not so little) unrelated HC I developed later under the cut
₊˚ ‿︵‿︵‿︵୨୧ · · ♡ · · ୨୧‿︵‿︵‿︵ ˚₊
🎀- HC that EVE's most normal hobby - when not occupied with other things - is repainting dolls 🎀- Like in a blue moon you can catch her at the hobby lobby in mom jeans and a cardigan just looking for materials
★- In her down time (which is a bit rare these days) Nadia'll pick those ball-jointed Barbie/Bratz/MH dolls and give them a complete makeover ☆- While she's making them she's fervently thinking 'I will love you in a way that no one else EVER has' and she treats them all that way ★- She'll repaint them in the most unconventional ways possible but they're still gorgeous; a perfect reflection of her studio artwork on a body that isn't her own ☆- Sometimes if she's low on fabrics, instead of making a full-sized mockup of her exhibition fits she'll use her dolls to test the outfit design and make a mini version of the fit with small pieces of the final material ★- She's got this HUGE shelf on her pad that's got these fashion icon dolls displayed with their name and inspiration on a little plaque ☆- Whenever something significant happens and she doesn't want to paint, she'll hold onto the feeling, good or bad, and jot down an idea for a new doll's look ★- and she DOES truly love each of them - though she may have had to learn to love one in particular
🎀- She picked up the hobby in college (before she met Zuke) but didn't really think anything of it 🌸- It was just a means to practice different makeup looks and pencil techniques without sculpting something - and it was fun! She liked having a cute little gal at the end of the process 🎀- When she came up with the idea of using the dolls as models, she created a doll of herself but made the decision to make its skin completely white 🌸- When Nadia met Zuke, she sort of put the hobby aside to focus on her other art mediums, but she looked at the doll of herself and felt comfortable enough to repaint the right side pink (and she laughed a bit to herself looking at the final result, because it looked... Cute! Just like her other gorgeous dolls...) 🎀- After Rapturica, she didn't feel the need to create a doll based on her feelings as she didn't feel as hurt as she expected, but she did find it really, REALLY hard to look at the doll of herself, so she hid it away... 🎀- she picked up repainting again later but went in HARD - they began to look more artsy and alien, just like her other art pieces 🌸- After graduating she didn't really have time to repaint dolls and focused on creating other arts/music again, only occasionally using them to test outfits (but never the one of herself) 🎀- After the events of NSR though, she picked it up again as a form of self-care. It's something she doesn't have to create for the public eye, and she's rekindled the joy of creating a strange little gal and loving them despite their bizarre quirks. 🌸- ... I think she feels a bit more comfortable looking at the doll of herself now, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
★- She's probably still got doll repaint videos up on her channel from her college days, hehe. ☆- (She's debating whether or not to make a mini exhibition about the concept of dolls.* Likely not, as she doesn't want to taint the tranquility of the act, but she still likes the idea. It's better to not mix work art with home art, anyway.) (* (How they can reflect their caretaker, they exhibit both confidence and vulnerability, they can be broken and discarded but repaired, they're still images that can be moved in a 3d space however you desire, they rely on a person to actually be 'real' ykyk that kind of thing. the symbolism of dolls.)
The doodle I made in the 3rd picture (above the cut) is inspired by those really pretty doll repaints... I think that that look in particular is one that she tested on a doll first... pre-ugly cry, that is.
Thanks for reading my very silly idea... decorated the bullets with Bows and stars because I felt like it, haha. Have a lovely day~🌸

Fallout: Shenandoah - Deep Glowing One "If you see lights beneath the water, it's already too late."
Something Lovecraftian about whales being benevolent giants, but they've absorbed so much radiation from the water that they're basically mobile nuclear reactor cores.

Taikiken Shobu Kan, guided by Naotake Shimamura, students are introduced to core principles. Taikiken is a dynamic and highly effective martial art that traces its origins to Yi Quan, with a strong emphasis on developing a practitioner’s internal power, natural posture, and heightened sensitivity. At its core, Taikiken seeks to refine the practitioner’s body and mind through a series of fundamental exercises, eventually enabling individuals to respond instinctively and efficiently in both combat and everyday life. At Taikiken Shobu Kan, under the guidance of expert instructor Naotake Shimamura, students are introduced to the art’s core principles and given the tools to develop a deeper connection with their own body and the natural world around them. One of the most critical aspects of Taikiken training is Ritsuzen (standing meditation). This practice encourages students to remain still in a standing position for extended periods, gently focusing on cultivating a calm and aware state of mind. Over time, Ritsuzen helps unify the body’s structure and develops internal strength, or Ki, enabling students to move and react with greater efficiency. By mastering this seemingly simple posture, practitioners learn to harness relaxed but focused power that underpins every aspect of Taikiken. Beyond standing meditation, Naotake Shimamura’s classes explore Yuri, which involves gentle swaying motions, allowing the practitioner to test their balance and cultivate a strong, rooted presence. These subtle exercises train the nervous system to adapt and stay relaxed even under pressure. As students progress, they incorporate stepping drills and partner exercises, learning how to utilize whole-body movement, proper alignment, and the deep well of internal force cultivated through dedicated Taikiken practice.

I like to think Hatake's sees hair as a sort of sign of affection. Like, anything with hair is a sign of affection to them.
Head pats, fondness. Brushing hair, close relationship. Doing your hair, you are their closest person.
Like, they see playing or caring for your hair as a sign of affection through caring for you.
To touch your hair is like a cautious sign of fondness to see the person's reaction to the touch. If they are positive they keep doing it until they can card their fingers through your hair. If you respond negatively they would be slower and respectfully of your space and ask you if it's fine to pat your hair or hover a hand over your head before you lean into it.
Playing with one's hair means that they are putting trust in the person that they won't ruin it nor that you will damage it. A show of trust that Hatakes take to see if they have any form of malice or tension based on the person who is playing with their hair seems to care for them. If they pull or tug harshly and keep doing it then it means you don't care for their well being. But if you apologize and learn to be more gentle then it shows that you are being considerate of the person.
Styling or doing one's hair is like the ultimate show of claim a Hatake can make on a person, letting someone touch or do their hair is the second stage of trust before they do it themselves to the person they care for. Because then it shows that you are allowing them to care for you and love you in a personal way. To let a Hatake do your hair, whether that's brushing it or doing a complicated style is a show of a claim or sorts.
Of course, a Hatake will judge you by how well they care for your hair. The best hair care is usually shiny or silky, even fluffy or soft on the claimed, and a well-cared-for Hatake can be seen in the same way.
I just thought of this as Kakashi doing Sakumos hair a lot into a simple ponytail since that was the only style he learned to do correctly and Sakumo always loved it. But when the mission happened and Kakashi was coming home less, Sakumo's hair became loose and unkept which he took as a sign his pack didn't care for him nor trust him anymore.
I imagine Kakashi seeing Sakumos body with his silver hair spread all over the floor when Sakumo cut chunks of it off before killing himself. The person who found Kakashi and Sakumo saw Kakashi brushing out the tangles of the messily cut hair on his dads dead body.
Then I like to think of how Kakashi would pat his student's heads from time to time and I smile.
If we go the Hatake Tobirama and Hashirama route I like to think Hashirama always had his long soft and shiny hair due to Tobi brushing it daily. Even styles it for important events or for practices. Tobirama use to have long hair to but saw how much his brother struggled with it so he cut it short to help him with caring for it. Hashirama was devastated and felt guilty so he would work to make plant oils like rosemary lavender or coconut and almond oils to make his brothers hair shiny and smooth.
Anyways, hair care! Hair care the love language.

"You are a stubborn little thing, do you know that?"
"I do. Though, would you have me any different?"
"No, I would not."
"Why?"
"I would miss the way your soul burns with passion for what you believe in."
"How romantic. Anything else?"
"...and with how adorable it is that you think you can challenge me."
"Ah, there it is."

Black History
For many little Black girls, being featured on a Just For Me perm box or in their commercials was a dream come true. Just For Me, is known for its hair relaxer designed to straighten African American hair, formally known as "creamy crack". The irony was that to be considered a "Just For Me Girl," you had to have natural hair, as many of the models later revealed on Black Twitter that they hadn't actually used the product. This revelation was shocking, especially since so many of us have faced the consequences of using hair relaxers.
The video features LaTavia Roberson from Destiny's Child Just For Me It Girl

I can’t believe a boyfriend made a silly sex joke to lighten the mood after both partners had a moment of vulnerability. The audacity. The horror. The normalcy! Unbelievable. How dare a conversation about feelings turn to levity. How dare a couple have a light chat about trauma-related things over dinner that doesn’t turn into an incredibly deep heart to heart instead of a joke and moving on. Unbelievable. I’m never watching this show again! 👎🏻
