An outpost constructed on the frontier to allow the army to secure the region. Surrounding woodlands have been cleared for building materials and to prevent hidden approaches. Over time, this will likely turn into a permanent stone fortification, with villages clinging to its wall, but for now, its a relatively modest structure. Two barracks halls provide shelter for 20 soldiers, while four junior officers share a more comfortable house with the outpost's commander.

THE DECK OF MONSTERS 2
Hello hello brave travelers!
I reach out to you from the ether to announce that the project I am doing illustration for has officially launched! The Deck of Monsters 2!
It's a deck of 53 new and original monsters compatible with Monster of the Week!
Stop me if you've heard this one. An independent career focused woman gets lured to a small town that's way too into Christmas. She meets a generic, yet handsome, man who shows her the meaning of the season and they end up falling in love. She quits her job, divorces her fiancee, and lives the rest of her life in this happy Christmas town. This is propaganda and these innocent women are his marks. These monsters feast on stolen ambition before forever trapping their victims in a holiday hellscape they can never hope to escape from.
Creatures that are literally spineless, Yesmen inhabit the highest echelons of capitalist society. They have always infiltrated human power structures to push for, and enable, greater and greater atrocities that cause greater and greater human suffering. It just so happens that in the modern world they choose to be corporate vice presidents to have easier access to morally compromised mortals. They're just so easy to direct towards enacting harm on their fellow humans, after all. Nothing to read into about that. The system works.
We got a bunch more monsters in this deck that are illustrated by a team of sure shot artists and yours truly!
You can also peruse through the myriad horrors and use them for other tables tops and scenarios! The Kickstarter is live today and at it's top tier YOU can play as horrific creator and work with us to create a monster that is included into the deck!
So what are you waiting for hunters?
Let's go to the Kickstarter and Hunt!

Oh! Right just remembered something I’ve been doing to help me with getting my party to have an insensitive to explore, and to help me not have to describe what’s in every drawer in detail. I’ve been making signed books as a sort of collectable for them. Some examples:
How to spread capitalism signed by Lockheed Martin
Chemistry Cook Book signed by Walter White
That’s how mafia works signed by Al Capone
Extreme Puppy Kicking signed by Kotomine Kirei
The Hanging Tree signed by Logan Paul
Walk it off signed by Steven Hawkins

Cookies & Dream bakery
A nice bakery located close to the town square. Large windows at the front give you the view of the bright and colorful interior as soon as you enter the town square. A large sign placed by the door proudly displays the name of the bakery “Cookies & Dream” in a wavy font and bright blue letters. Underneath you see the opening hours printed neatly.
The interior of the shop is bright and bubbly with every colour of the rainbow making an appearance somewhere. There’s tables and booths neatly placed within the space where you see customers enjoying their baked goods.
Within the glass counters at the back of the shop you see a variety of baked goods, cupcakes and cakes with colorful frosting, delicious looking pastries and freshly baked bread. Chalk boards on the wall behind the counters display the drink menu and prices. Everything about this bakery screams happy and bubbly, which is why the proprietor behind the counter comes as a shock to your system as you step up to order. The sullen, grumpy dwarf behind the counter is the polar opposite of the shop’s theme and aesthetic.
Customers who pry will find out that Valdemar is not the original owner and proprietor of this shop. The bakery was started by Valdemar’s younger brother, Torri and Valdemar reluctantly promised to keep it running while Torri is away. Potential quest hooks: - Torri has been gone longer than expected and Valdemar has not heard from him. - Someone has started a rumor that Valdemar is sabotaging the bakery and business has slowed down. Valdemar is devastated and desperate to continue his brother’s legacy.

As a Dungeon Master I nearly scrolled past this before my brain kicked my own ass and reminded me that I have tried looking up 'Blue Gemstones' at LEAST a dozen times in the last six months and never found anything this helpful.

This got me thinking about some great times my D&D players or an NPC (played by me) really leaned into an injury as a chance to roleplay.
Taking a rough hit and being woozy and having difficulty summoning words to speak and warn others
Taking a hard trip (was a hit to the legs) and asking to limp (move at half speed) for the battle, and describing future actions with that limp
Rolling a "1" during a punch and acting as if their fingers on that hand hurt badly (broken!) and roleplaying they favored the other hand and kicks
Yes, these may not be RAW mechanics, but when a player elects to take what happens into their character narrative and help paint a vivid picture rather than just "I miss" or "I attack with my sword" or "Dang, that's 24 damage to my character" then I personally believe this makes for better storytelling and a more engaging game.
What are some examples you've seen of players (including yourself) coming up with mechanics or describing and running with injuries on the fly based on the outcome of rolls or events? How have you had fun describing injuries?
Yay, unsolicited advice time! Or, not really advice, more like miscellaneous tips and tricks, because if there's one thing eight years of martial arts has equipped me to write, it's fight scenes.
.
Fun things to add to a fight scene (hand to hand edition)
It's not uncommon for two people to kick at the same time and smack their shins together, or for one person to block a kick with their shin. This is called a shin lock and it HURTS like a BITCH. You can be limping for the rest of the fight if you do it hard enough.
If your character is mean and short, they can block kicks with the tip of their elbow, which hurts the other guy a lot more and them a lot less
Headbutts are a quick way to give yourself a concussion
If a character has had many concussions, they will be easier to knock out. This is called glass jaw.
Bad places to get hit that aren't the groin: solar plexus, liver, back of the head, side of the thigh (a lot of leg kicks aim for this because if it connects, your opponent will be limping)
Give your character a fighting style. It helps establish their personality and physicality. Are they a grappler? Do they prefer kicks or fighting up close? How well trained are they?
Your scalp bleeds a lot and this can get in your eyes, blinding you
If you get hit in the nose, your eyes water
Adrenaline's a hell of a drug. Most of the time, you're not going to know how badly you've been hurt until after the fact
Even with good technique, it's really easy to break toes and fingers
Blocking hurts, dodging doesn't
.
Just thought these might be useful! If you want a more comprehensive guide or a weapons edition, feel free to ask. If you want, write how your characters fight in the comments!
Have a bitchin day <3

At the top of this rocky hill is the mouth of a deep, deep shaft that descends into the bowels of the earth. The inhabitants of a nearby village have established cautious, tentative trade with those who live beneath - water, wood, and other surface commodities that are rarities underground in exchange for ores and gems. A crane has been constructed to transport freight, but the crew makes money on the side by providing adventurers a means to go below - safety not guaranteed. +++ This map is sized for a 30x30 grid. Accessible base, accessible base! A great opportunity to have it be a portal to a very calm woods in the middle of nowhere. There's a bunch of potential here. For example:
Not all is actually well, because there's a hidden mystery here, and signs that staying too long, or straying too far, ends up attracting strange, dangerous beings or even stranger friendly people, but they never seem to appear in the first long rest in a day/week.
Should the party choose, they can investigate further and further information about the place and its history. If they don't, that's fine too
Eventually, the campaign reaches a point.
A point where they might stumble across it in person, or where they know enough about the place, or enough about the campaign, to have everything click together.
That their strange, humble abode for these many months/years, is/was the territory of the BBEG and their people, and is the site of their final battle...
I really like the campsite in bg3 and I want to figure out a way to use it in d&d.
Maybe it's just because I've been on an irl camping kick, but I think its adorable (everyone has their own little tents and decorations) and it also solves the issue of characters that are part of the campaign but not actively in the party.
Obviously some mechanics that make sense in a video game don't translate to tabletop and vice versa, but it would be great if a player misses a session and you could just say they went back to the camp for something.
Yeah, it's still a little handwave-y but it feels more natural than some other options, and the concept of having a base camp isn't a new thing. Plus you can have some more passive down-time activity stuff happening at camp. Maybe the party comes back to camp and there's a message waiting for them. Etc
I also don't track encumbrance or hit dice, just to reduce some complexity with the rules and keep things fun for new players without having a million things to keep track of. But Camp is an easy explanation for storage (without having to immediately give a lvl 1 party a bag of holding) and I like the idea that if you long rest at camp you get all your hit points/hit dice back because there's someone there managing the supplies and cooking etc vs if you're sleeping in the field you don't.
I think the concept could also scale up with the party gaining a house or stronghold etc. Cause I feel like sometimes that happens but the party ends up not actually going to their house etc because they're going other places. But the concept of teleportation/extra dimensional spaces already exists in d&d, so why not apply it to living space? I also like the idea of having some more levels between sleeping on the ground and getting attacked by dire wolves nightly and perfectly portable and defensible mordankeinens magnificent mansion.

1d8 Places to Rest in the City
The upstairs of the Coronet, a seedy and rundown public house in the industrial district. The pub is under new management, and has been undergoing extensive renovations in the hope of cleaning up its image. Despite the owner’s best efforts, pickpockets and thugs loiter outside. And most nights, a smuggler by the name of Smiley Sam can be found in the barroom, ready to trade in secrets, coin, or illicit goods.
The roof of the Third Regional Bank, an imposing edifice with an atrial dome and a cluster of gold statues above its grand doors. From this height, you can see the sprawl of the whole city, its flickering lights and flares of magic. The night watchman might need paying off, and it’s none too comfortable in rain or snow. But the gargoyles have formed a sketch comedy group, so there’s built-in entertainment.
The Magnolia Pink, a fabulous hotel with genuine silver floors. The suites are worth the expense, from the liveried servants who attend the guests’ every need to the plush, indulgent beds and decadent room service options. But rumor has it that for every night you pass in the Magnolia Pink’s embrace, the less likely you are to come out again — at least until you can no longer scrounge up the cash to afford just one more night.
Under the Bodhi Bridge. This brickwork overpass provides excellent shelter from the elements, particularly because some enterprising vagabond has knocked in part of the supporting wall and created an accessible niche roughly 15x15 ft. in size. In time, other vagrants have left their marks: symbols in thieves’ cant, broken bottles, worn-out boots, and a pile of logs inoculated with a variety of mushrooms.
Inchibald Quingle’s Lodging House, a crooked three-story structure with drafty rooms, narrow hallways, and two hearty meals a day. The elderly Mr. Quingle has handed the reins to his son, Inchie Jr., whose passion for cookery has earned the Quingle Lodging House its place on the map. Inchie’s other passion—taxidermy—does put some guests off their supper, however.
The Asylum of the Ragged Saints, a humble almshouse dedicated to housing the poor, the pensioners, and the downtrodden. Available only to those in need, the Asylum’s rooms are clean and orderly, but offer little privacy and even less comfort. Its patron, Lady Parsimony Cross, is a crotchety and bookish young woman who inherited responsibility for the Asylum from a more kindly and warm relative. She is greatly concerned with the idea that the Asylum is being used by those who do not truly need its services, and has begun imposing increasingly high standards of poverty and desperation to its residents.
An abandoned underground transport station, dating from a time immemorial. A rusting metal wagon rests on a sunken track, its doors jammed into the open position. Moth-eaten seats line an aisle within. The track extends into the darkness of an enclosed tunnel, which emits an eerie buzzing noise. If the wagon doesn’t hold any appeal, you can always remain on the buckling stone platform and examine its illegible signage and explore the chambers lined in cracked, mossy tile which branch from the main cavernous space.
The basement of the Ershae family home. The Ershaes are friendly people, part of a social network which offers safe housing to travelers. As members of this group, they host strangers willingly and are welcomed by other strangers in the network when they travel themselves. The sole condition of your stay is this: you must join the network and list your address among the available places to stay. If you agree, you may sleep in this place as long as you need without charge, though you are responsible for your own meals. The Ershaes’ basement is wood-paneled, with a shaggy orange carpet and a vividly green sofa bed.
