okay obviously you can dislike or like shadowvanilla. it’s YOUR opinion it’s YOUR preference. ♡day 5: robby keene ♡

ROBBY MY BELOVED, i WISH they'd kept his grunge skater-boy fashion throughout the show, we get to see it a handful of times but i want it full time !!

so the main thing about robby for me personally is his daddy issues. all other aspects of his character are important obviously but for MY PERSONAL rationale on why he's so important to me: it's his daddy issues.

i love johnny and i understand his reasoning for taking himself out of robby's life, but it's bullshit. sorry not sorry. ten-year-old robby isn't sitting there thinking "thank god i don't have my dad here right now because he would probably mentally mess me up and isn't emotionally or financially stable enough to handle a kid" no. ten-year-old robby is thinking "why tf doesn't my dad want me?"

it's very much frankenstein's creation. robby didn't asked to be made. he didn't ask to have the personality he has. johnny and shannon decided to be idiots, they made robby. then robby was stuck between two literal children who were both emotionally immature. how can you spite your own creation?

and i know there are johnny fans that say he tried reconnecting with robby throughout the first few seasons but robby kept pushing him away. HE IS ALLOWED TO. i actually think that was highly predictable that robby would push him away. when someone you've spent your whole life waiting for never reaches out to you, you give up. it becomes a defensive mechanism that you expect disappointment. so to protect yourself, you decide you're not only going to stop waiting, but that you'll never give them the satisfaction of knowing you were waiting.

robby got sick of waiting for his dad to grow tf up. he's also a little ball of anger bc of his living conditions. he loves his mom obvi and he had a roof over his head but we all watched the same show, robby was struggling to stay afloat on his own bc she was always drunk, out, and mentally really spacey. so when he goes to the dojo and sees johnny hug a kid his age (which it's implied he's never really hugged robby) yeah, he crashes out. before, he could rationalize like "oh my dad's not a very physical person. he just doesn't like showing his emotions like that." but to see him hug this random kid. that hurts so bad.

then ya know things get worse, he figures out who miguel is, he grows closer with the larussos, all this new context on all sides makes him angrier (rightfully so). he hears daniel's side, he sees sam's side, miguel can't seem to back off or act like a normal human being, so it's a lot harder for robby to see his dad's attempts as genuine. or at least attempts that would end in anything but disaster. so to protect himself he sticks by miyagi-do, but stuff goes down and now his second father-figure (in his eyes) betrays him by luring him and calling the cops on him.

he even feels ridiculous for having the smallest bit of hope that johnny would come with bobby to visit him so all in all a very angry kid that's not going to listen to any of johnny's attempts anymore.

EVEN NOW we have yet to see johnny develop much of a bond with robby, much less as close a bond as the one he shares with miguel. and when johnny said he's been focusing on robby at the sekai taikai, when? were these moments in the room with us? he interacted with him one-on-one once and that was robby just saying "sorry dad" bc the whole team was fighting. (there better be deleted scenes or something bc that's awful writing on the writers' part to callback to something that doesn't exist.)

so anyways, his daddy issues, 100%, think about it very often.

also his second-place syndrome, WHY DO THE WRITERS HATE HIM?

but this trait is exactly why his relationship with tory works so well so. and it makes me root for him more. it also makes him more relatable. like i love miguel but he's a little overpowered and he's really well-liked by pretty much the whole fandom and the characters in the show so it gets a little boring after a bit bc he's so popular.

ermmm this is embarrassing...i don't have much other justification for why i like him. this pretty much covers it. let me check the checklist:

he listens to rock/grunge/classic rock (i mean cmon he's not a poser, look at the shirts he wears) (grunge skater-boy robby come back home to me, the kids miss you)

after graduation, robby gets a little more involved in hanging around brandon and, over time, tory starts trusting robby to help her do errands (shopping, picking brandon up, etc.) (robby's basically a strong older male figure for anthony, kenny, and brandon at this point) (beating the deadbeat dad genetics)

him and hawk spend time working out or sparring together, miguel occasionally joins them but prefers to work out with sam (sometimes tory will work out with hawk and robby) (this is really the only middle ground robby and hawk have, they don't have much to talk about outside of workouts)

after living with carmen and rosa, and since they're now a permanent part of his family, he starts practicing his spanish a little more (nothing revolutionary but enough to understand what rosa says)

he actually gets along swimmingly with rosa and often talks to her or helps her do various tasks when he can. miguel finds it odd at first but realizes that's just rosa's personality.

he also gets along really well with carmen, she acts just like a second mother to him. between her and amanda, and his mom's reappearance in his life, it's safe to say he's getting plenty of the maternal love and attention he was missing.

robby and demetri aren't very close anymore but, before the school fight, the two were about as close as they were to sam at the time. he'd sit with demetri when there was a movie the lanky nerd was dying to see and they sometimes talked about tech (with the little knowledge robby had to swindle customers at tech town) (demetri's mainly just yapping but robby understood enough of what he was saying) (their whole dynamic was just demetri yapping and robby chiming in with "yes i understood that reference" every five minutes)

while robby tries to pretend he's content in the amount of effort his parents are now putting into his life, miguel and sam see right through it and talk to johnny and amanda to talk with shannon so they can both get more involved. he definitely finds their sudden boost of effort weird and uncomfortable at first but it makes him really happy to see them try.

robby considers following in his dad's footsteps and taking over the dojo, mentoring under johnny and chozen before taking over as an adult (idk what canon has planned for him so this is ambiguous for now whether or not he follows this idea)

kenny, tory, miguel, and sam plan a surprise birthday party for his 21st bday (more miguel and sam planning and kenny and tory distracting him) (he doesn't really like surprises but the thought behind it means a lot)

he spends some time with shawn and kenny after he graduates, just hanging out, going to the skate park, having lunch, etc. he even tries teaching kenny how to skate but kenny doesn't really catch on

he also spends some time with anthony and tries to give him advice where it's needed. there are a few times when anthony talks about how disappointed he is that he's not at kenny's level or even devon's level. (it reminds robby a lot of his own self-doubt and never feeling good enough) robby's always quick to remind him how he didn't know any karate then managed to make it in the race for the sekai taikai team within months of training, so he's really not that bad at making progress, it just takes time (especially since kenny and devon have about a year leg-up on him)

while he doesn't spend a crazy amount of time with miguel, he would consider him a close friend, just below tory and sam. plus they spend enough time together at home and during family events to have a good bond.

while he spends a lot of time with sam and tory, and anthony and kenny, and hawk and shawn, and brandon and daniel (quite the social butterfly you are mr. keene) he always always has time set aside for his new little sister. whether he spends his time with her with johnny, miguel, carmen, rosa, sam, tory, he doesn't care. he has grown to be quite protective of her and never wants to let her out of his sight (possibly a side effect of feeling unnoticed and unloved when he was growing up~) (robby keene you are ALWAYS beating the deadbeat allegations <3)

when she gets older, he takes her out to the park, lets her ride his skateboard (while holding both of her hands to make sure she doesn't fall), makes her breakfast, etc. etc. carmen and johnny obviously do the most with her as her parents but when they get a little tired or need some time alone or just straight up busy, rosa, miguel, and robby are right there to take over

(would lowkey love a spin-off in like fifteen years about her asking about miguel and robby's high school experience and both of them awkwardly trying to avoid saying anything too concerning)

in conclusion: robby deserves better and yeah he's angry but validly so, and everything he's ever done is rationalized by "okay but did you see what that person did to him?" (thinking about him retaliating to johnny. and sam. and miguel. and daniel. and hawk.) he's just a little guy. who adores his tall cool gf. and even though canon treats him as a plot device for miguel and johnny, he's such a cool character and i would love to see more of him in any future iterations.

Brings a very soothing maternal presence, it feels like you can tell her anything, and she would give you advice without judgment.

Presses gentle kisses onto your face if you were to leave to do training or something of the sort.

Very protective over you as well, even if she's not equipped with weaponry well. If she has to defend you, she definitely will.

Even if she's upset with your decisions, she would always be there and treat you no differently.

Oh boy.. Aegon is a quite difficult one to especially with all of the drinking and brothels he devotes his time too.

It definitely will not be an easy time being his lover. His issues strive from the pressure and weight of being the rightful 'king' (ermmm okay aegon) mainly steming from his mother (love u Ali tho) and grandsire.

He only really thinks you're there for a way to either gain power or his cock which (let's be fr nobody want all that) Sex is one thing, love and trust is whole other thing.

I feel like he would be pretty needy stemming from how his father neglects him.

He has his moods and his moments, I bet you could console him quite easily although.

A very tactical lover always has to be touching you in some way. He craves to be held while you're in bed together, but he will never admit that.

Helaena has her quirks nonetheless, but that doesn't stop her from being a genuine good soul. She's a sweetheart in all honestly.

Helaena is a very curious girl. If you haven't originated from King's landing, I'm sure she would love to hear about your heritages.

She just needs someone to listen to her, about her bugs and about her riddles.

I believe she would tell you all about insects, I also think she would embroiderate insect brooches for you to wear proudly onto your coats.

I also believe she would tell you what insect really reminds her of you. Explaining why, in all detail, why she sees you as such.

I believe she would go to you to reconcile her about her visions as you're the only real one to understand her dismay.

I would suggest giving kindness back and start to court the princess.

I also would like to believe she's a huge bookworm, especially about mythology or nature.

Her love languages would be gift giving and quality time. She appreciates your company even if you both have nothing to say.

Patience is very key here. She doesn't like physical touch, and when she wants it, let her initiate it first. She doesn't like sudden loud noises or touches it makes her overwhelmed.

I believe she might be a poet as well from all of her riddles. She might journal to explore her dragon dreams and her other thoughts, respectively.

Over time, I think she would be the one to initiate small touches such as hands brushing against each other, small hugs, gentle kisses upon the cheeks, forehead, and lips.

Aemond will not be easy to love. After losing his eye, he had changed. He wasn't the sweet boy of his mother it was like he did a whole 180.

He will form a bond with you, and it will be VERYY slowburn.

He spends his time training, sparing, reading, and educating and doing all of the things Aegon doesn't do. (Which is a lot thx egg ig) I don't think he would be fond of you first it's like hes a thorn in your backside.

I feel like I would relate him to Daemon in the way that love doesn't come too easy for him.

He is quite wary of people, and at the beginning, you'll never see him without his eyepatch. It takes a lot of time for him to trust you with seeing his abnormality. He finds himself disgusting, I think only time will get him to find that his eye isn't ugly.

Also, a very jealous person, quick to anger to quick to act with emotions.

However, once you catch his eye. He'll come a bit possessive yet passionate towards you.

I feel like he would be very grateful if you were to meet Vhagar for the first time as Vhagar is almost like his second home.

He isn't used to kindness that doesn't come from his mother and sister.

A very observant lover loves to study your body language as he admires your features.

Paranoid that you'll find him ugly without his eyepatch on. He will mostly hide his scar the best he can, even if it's unbearable, or he will continue wearing it while he's aching.

RHAENYRA TARGARYEN

She would be the most loving partner, Even with all of her duties as Heir/Queen, she will always make time for you and her family.

I feel as if her love would be very maternal in a way(?) Honestly, like she would check up on you and make sure you're doing well. After a long way, she would lay with you, her hands gently massaging your scalp, and she reads a book.

I believe she would want someone who would not only protect her but her children as well. Not that she needs protecting. It's just a loyalty sort of thing.

Speaking of children, I feel like she would want for her lover to not only accept the boys in open arms but to be a parent figure of sorts.

Daemon is a very complicated man in general. Gaining his trust will be one thing. His love? Another.

He is known for preferring old valyria descendents, he has a common way of going to brothels and fucking whores. A marriage or love between him will not be an easy one.

The Rogue Prince is known to be unpredictable and harsh with his methods. I would use this to your advantage.

Your marriage/love will not be perfect as the blood of the dragon is strong. He might be yours, but he's a dragon first.

I feel like he would hold walls to withdraw from the emotions he deems as weak. Cracking these walls is a task end of itself. However, patience will be key. You might have to muster some dragonfire from yourself, I think he prefers to have someone who can manage his fire, but who can also light fire themselves.

He is a very difficult man with strange needs, I think it's best to meet with his roots. Learning High Valyrian, meeting 'The Blood Wyrm', conditioning old valyrian values. That's the best bet to really gain structure into this relationship.

He will not be tied down by marriage duty. He craves excitement and bloodshed. You will have to acknowledge that.

The best way to bond with him is to sit down into bed and let him read to you of his heritage. He's very proud of it, and nothing will stop that. I think another way to strengthen the relationship is to take flights with him and caraxes.

Sorry it’s been a long time coming. Other fics got in the way but I’m back on my Tim love (not that it ever disappeared). It’s worth heading back to see where we were but let’s catch up in our sexy detectives life shall we.

Synopsis:- You have been avoiding Tim for the last 2 weeks but you now have to go & drop evidence off to him.

You’ve not been looking forward to this moment & you’re pretty sure he’s been actively avoiding you too. There’s butterflies in your stomach, not the type that he usually gives you. Is it because of what happened? Is it that you want more? Your head for the last 2 weeks has been all over the place. You’re equally as guilty for not following up but today you have to see him. “That…ermmm… ahhh… evidence… deee dete detective” you slowly put the file on the table & nod trying not to make full eye contact & turn back to leave. But that large firm hand of his lands on top of yours. You shudder for a few seconds. You look up deeply in love with those big brown eyes.

“We need to talk” he says…

*16 days earlier*

“& then” Tim jokes as the waiter brings the menus over for desert as you both laugh at the Italian restaurant you’ve gone to for your date. He’s been caressing your hand all night. You’ve been twisting your hair & all you’ve both done is flirt. This isn’t detective Rockford sitting in front of you. This is a man who you’d like to be your boyfriend who is having the best dinner date you’ve had in years. “Then he walked into a bin, face planted the bush & hit the deck & I got it all on camera” he finishes telling the story about his holiday with his mates years ago. You’ve really got to know each other tonight. He’s genuine & sweet & you don’t often put out on the first date but the way you’ve been looking at each other & the hand caressing & the way your leg has been feeling his up & down under the table, you are wondering if the hotel 2 streets away has a spare room on this Saturday night. Everything is going so well.

The waiter comes back over.

“I’ll have the banoffee pie please” you say. Tim smiles at that.

“& I’ll have the…” he goes to say it but then he catches something out of the corner of his eye. He might have had half a bottle of red & a beer while out but in an instant the kind soft funny flirty Tim you’ve been chatting too is back to being detective Rockford. “That’s Danson!” He says & stands up.

“Tim?” You’re very concerned how he’s just switched back on to being a detective & haven’t even seen the person he’s talking about.

“Cuffs” & his hand does a come hither sign.

“What”

“Give me your hand cuffs”

“I don’t have them”

“What!” He sounds so disappointed in you. “Why don’t you have them on you all the time”

“Because this was a date, not work & where am I meant to carry them” your dress isn’t too revealing but you have nowhere to put them.

“I dunno in your bag, in your bra” he’s saying this matter of fact & you raise an eyebrows. He then asks the waiter if they have any restraints & because it’s just a kid they have no idea. He then looks at you. “I’m gonna trail Danson, call the station tell them where we are & that Danson is a few streets away”

“But Tim”

“DO IT” he says firmly & get up & walks outside. Leaving you alone in a restaurant feeling awkward. He’s stormed out in you. Your eyes sting & well up. You call the station & say to the waiter Tim will be back in a bit. Tim doesn’t come back. You have to pay the whole bill. & when you leave feeling distraught & go to call him it goes straight to voicemail. It does that on Sunday & Monday too. No apology text, no missed call, nothing. You initially try to find him when you’re back at work but after another 2 days you then start actively avoiding him.

*back in the now in Tims office*

Tim is pacing as he’s trying to explain why he did what he did from that evening but you’re not listening you’re just replaying that evening through your mind again & again. Hearing him echo the words DO IT forcefully each time. Tim eventually stops pacing & hold both your hands.

“Say something” he asks & you shake your head. “What else do I need to say” he states.

“Sorry” you mumble, it’s quiet but he hears it. He then takes one of his large hands & lifts your chin up.

“I didn’t hear you”

“I said say sorry” you say in a firm tone that resonates to him. You’re now lost in his eyes as your own well up.

“What? I don’t need to say…”

“Yes you bloody do Tim” you interrupt him & it’s your turn to pace about & give him a Lecture. “It’s not about that I had to pay the bill, or that we’ve both avoided each other to not have this chat. It’s the fact you talked to me like I was nothing”

“What”

“DO IT” you snap back. “Those two word have spun around my head for the last 2 weeks. How the kind wonderful man I was on a date with who made me feel seen as a person, the second he saw something work related just snapped back into being at work. Yes Danson was finally caught. But a message to say sorry let’s try that another day would have been nice.”

“But I got him”

“You’re not seeing the point Tim” your hand firmly hits the desk as you say this. “I know you find it hard to switch off from work, you told me on those coffee dates we had which you said weren’t really dates. But then for that to happen on our actual date…” you shake your head & turn to face his evidence wall. You don’t want to show weakness with your eyes filling up.

“I can’t help it I’m married to my work, I love it you know that, you admire it… you…”

“Then if you’re married to the job, then you don’t need an other half” you snap back & face him. The first tear drips down your face & you look at the evidence wall. “My advice to you Tim is to not lead people on in future, because clearly your work comes first.”

Tim is silent for a few seconds as are you as you look at the evidence wall, not really seeing it clearly as you cry. Slowly you hear his feet shuffle & he stands to the side of you. He slowly moves a piece of your hair & softly whispers into your ear.

“I’m sorry, I’m a fool” you gasp. The gasp he likes. The warmth of his breath freeing your broken soul. You slowly link your hand in his.

“I didn’t hear you” you repeat his earlier words & turn to face him. He takes a big breath & rubs across the top of your knuckles.

“I’m sorry, I’m a fool, forgive me, I always fuck things up” his eyes are genuine. This isn’t a game like most men play. He can see he’s upset you & he looks soft. “Please forgive me” he’s pleading. You look at his face. Those plump lips would do anything for you.

“Well as you asked so nicely” you cough & sniff & he goes into his white shirts pocket & dabs your face with a tissue.

“I also can’t have those beautiful eyes getting all red & puffy on me either.” You giggle.

“You think I have beautiful eyes”

“Yes windows to the soul, that’s why I avoided you, I didn’t want to crush your soul anymore”

“You’re either the king of pick up lines Tim or you’re secretly a romantic stuck in a workaholics body.” You giggle & test your hand on his shoulder. & then comes the smoulder & the pout. The one that always makes you weak. The one that makes you cry out for more. & the short little deep murmured reply.

“Guilt… as… charged” his eyes are full on making contact with you. All is forgiven.

You aren’t sure who moved their head in first, & this wasn’t where you imagined your first kiss with Tim being. His lips capture yours. Time stops as your hand grips his shoulder, the white shirt & the holster feel so good under your hand. He’s got one hand on your hip, caressing it. You can tell from this he will be such a sensitive lover. He is kissing you with all his might, igniting both your souls, yours no longer broken. His other hand gently strokes your neck before it starts to caress the side of your face. His thumb & fingers holding you in place as you start to tremble. The butterfly’s of nerves you had earlier now excited inside you. You push up in your tip toes to feel more of your body press against his. He lets out a little moan & then continues. He knows what he’s doing. He might not have had a romantic parter in years, but he is your cassinova. He’d already seduced you & now he’s just confirming this is real for the both of you.

Slowly you open your eyes when the kiss is over & you pant. His eyes are still shut.

“Tim?”

“Shhh” that large thumb graces your lips. “My advice to you is to not ruin the moment”

“Yes sir” & you know this time you lean in. You orchestrate the next kiss. His hands fumble in your hair. His beard rubbing against you has you whimpering. You can feel more than his badge rubbing against you as your tongues dance. Neither of you asked. It’s like your bodies knew. It’s perfect, & you’re perfect for each other.

“Detective Rockford… I just” a shrieking high voice comes wondering in & you both break the kiss quickly & both turn around & shout in unison.

“Ever heard of knocking.” Before you both realise it’s Winslow.

“Bloody hell Winslow”

“Sorry, I saw nothing, I just came to see where you were as I knew you’d been building up confidence all morning to come drop this evidence off, but clearly you found the courage for more than that”

“That’s enough Winslow” Tim says in his firm voice at them.

“Say no more… I’ll just erm… well we need to be in the car in 15mins” & Winslow backs out the room apologetically. & you both snigger.

“See your voice is intimidating” you say to tim playfully.

“I promise to try to not use that voice with you again & get out of my head” Tim strokes your face.

“& I’ll promise to give you some leeway” he chuckles & smiles back at you.

“So I guess I owe you a date” he says. A naughty smirk comes across his face.

“Well you did make me pay for the last one”

“I know, my bad, you’ll never have to pay for a date again”

“Tim, I don’t need to be pampered & spoilt I just want us to have fun, I don’t really care.”

“But I do,” he says & kisses your forehead.

“Well if you insist then yes,” I can see his hours on the wall as I glance across at when he’s meant to be at work. “How’s Friday?”

“Perfect I don’t think we can go back to that Italian for a while though” he giggle.

“Friday is a date then” I hold him close & we both sigh as we hug it out.”& this time I’ll bring my handcuffs”

“Ha” Tim scoffs. “I’m sorry I shouted that at you on the last one, the workaholic in me made me say it.”

“Hmmmm” you say as you softly then kiss his lips once more & head for his offfice door as he picks up the evidence you brought into him. “My advice is don’t always think of a the work mindset Tim…” I pause before I open the door”… the handcuffs have other uses” & you leave but quickly glimpse at his bright red face. He’s blushing like a beetroot.

As you sit in the car waiting for Winslow your phone pings & you open the message.

“Naughty girl…” it says. It’s from Tim.

“I hope you keep calling me that” you reply as Winslow gets in the passenger seat with two coffee & can see the look on your face.

“Can I buy an outfit for the wedding now?” They ask & you just smile. “I’m taking that as a maybe…”

Ok guyz I get it…in r+j (1996), Gloria was ermmm... Well, not really, but I didn’t like the scene where she kissed Tybalt. Also, shoutout to Diane Venora for making Lady Capulet THE lady Capulet.

HOWEVER, I wanted her to have a better, more parental role in Tybalt’s life, because I think in her own flawed way, she loves Tybalt (also I removed the kissing scene, so any judgement I make of Gloria is of personal HCS, and other scenes I saw of Gloria because that was just ermmmm..)

I say flawed because I think it’d be a role of favoritism. Out of ALL her children (nephew, nieces, and biological), she’s like Tybalt the most because of two reasons: Tybalt’s relations, and Tybalt being so painfully similar to her.

One of the main reasons on why she favors Tybalt is due to him being the child of Gloria’s sister, Mariana. (Credit to @fluffycoffeebuns for the idea + Mariana in gen) Mariana and Gloria were THE sisters growing up. Well, in terms of their looks, personalities, and just how they interacted overall. While both used to be chaotic and flirtatious, Mariana had a more stronger personality than Gloria. Mariana would be afraid to speak her mind, whereas Gloria could notice something wrong going on, but would always thinks of whether she should help others, or save herself. And both cause her pain, in some form.

I think Gloria’s always at a crossroad for things, and that she means the greater good for such. However, I also thinks that due to the passing of both Mariana and her husband, and the heavily implied abuse of Fulgenicio, that her love was/is flawed. And I know I said favoritism before, but I also mean neglect. Now don’t get me wrong, I know believe that Gloria DID love her child, HOWEVER, she became distant, and probably avoided Juliet like the plague. Why? It’s simple.

She was the child Gloria never wanted.

When Gloria “raised” Juliet, well, I’ll admit that it was probably half assed, if it was assed at all. We know that Nurse really was the one who raised Juliet, not Gloria. So, what makes it seem that Juliet was the child Gloria never wanted? Well, and this is going off my headcanons, but let’s say Gloria was married off. I think when Gloria was younger, she was exploring herself, including her sexuality. She always thought women were pretty, and probably even had more interest in women than men. But, when her family needed to marry someone who was powerful, she pushed down her urges, her feelings, and all her self-regard for her family. In fact, she probably was suffering internally through all this, but put up a front that she was “happy” or enjoyed it to the point where she faked being happy, and having a child at a young age. She sacrificed her childhood for her family, for Juliet. Sound familiar? I’m talking about Tybalt. That’s right. Tybalt Capulet.

You know how our dear Prince of Cats was probably taught to fight at a young age, sacrificed his childhood to focus on his career, and also lost both his parents at a young age? Well, Gloria felt similar to this, which is why I personally think that she cares more about Tybalt than the rest of her family. That may not be her child, but the two are so similar with their backstories (and also the pressure from Fulgenicio), that Gloria sorta took him under her wing.

I love Gloria, and I love developing her. Also the reason I removed that scene was because I think giving her a backstory and using other elements from the movie could make her stand alone enough to where that wouldn’t have to be her most defining thing, if that makes sense.

phantom pain -> the night we met

Lotus Pharmacy isn’t an extremely busy place, and once the system time begins nearing late evening, it's usually fairly empty. Yuhua doesn't mind, though; all in all, he gets enough customers to be able to run his business, and the lack of them at this particular time makes it easier for him to prepare for closing up and start cleaning, even if often there isn't much to clean regardless. He appreciates the quiet, too. But “usually” doesn't mean “always”, and today seems to be yet another exception to the general rule because the door to the pharmacy opens, and someone comes in.

Ah.

Yuhua looks away from the shelf he's currently cleaning, his eyes landing on the customer. They enter nearly without a sound, if not for the quiet creak of the door there's a chance he wouldn't have noticed them. He takes a moment to look at them, and… there are a few things he notices instantly. 

The bandages on their hands, disappearing under the sleeves. The bruise under their right eye, the redness of their tearful eyes - and though the newcomer might not see it, for a moment, Yuhua’s expression changes to that of understanding.

When they make eye contact, he puts on a soft, reassuring smile. Whatever they're afraid of, they aren't going to find it here. 

“Good evening,” he says, approaching the counter. His voice is calm, almost gentle when he speaks, but he still seems to have startled them a little. “How can I help you?”

“I…” they begin, and their voice is quiet and a bit shaky, like they're still trying to hold back the tears. They take in a deep breath, and one of their hands goes to the edge of their sleeve, tugging at it lightly, and it looks like they're not doing it knowingly. “Sorry. I… I need something for bruises.” As they talk, their voice seems to gradually become quieter, and they try to avoid eye contact, looking down. “An ointment?”

“Of course.” He nods and turns away from the counter and reaches towards one of the shelves. 

It… hurts to listen to this and watch it; as a follower of the Abundance, his primary goal is to help people - yet, right now, though there is clearly something terrible going on, he can't do anything. 

When he turns back around, though, the smile is back on his face.

“Anything else?”

They're looking around the pharmacy and they flinch when he speaks; when they look at him, he sees fear in their eyes, almost as if they were expecting him to snap at them.

“It's nice in here, isn't it?” he asks instead. Not without relief, he notices their shoulders relaxing a little, and they even manage a faint, nervous smile. It lasts only for a moment, but… it's something.

“...Yes” they admit. 

“Do you need anything else?” he asks again, and they shake their head slightly.

“No, I– I think that will be all.”

Their smile is long gone when they pay and grab the ointment from the counter; they seem almost reluctant to do so, but they still do it and then leave the pharmacy, with barely audible “thank you” and then “goodbye.”

He sighs quietly as he watches the door close. If they ever decide to come back here, they will obviously be welcome - regardless of whether they will be here to buy something, or… to hide.

And they won't be the first one to seek shelter in his pharmacy.

i only watched it once and im not doing it again so i may be misremembering some things here or there but... man. youd think that a show with the aesthetic it has would be exciting or new in any way but its unavoidably bland. the characters and the plot arent that engaging, yes, but i think my biggest gripe is that its one of those narratives that thinks being self aware and pessimistic is quirky and enjoyable. and like... i guess it is, given how widespread this damn pilot is, but for me its very grating. the whole "straight man character gets inexplicably sucked into a new universe where everything is silly and they dont know how to handle it" CAN be good!!! i think a lot about how what weve seen from this show compares to centaurworld (yes yes i know indie team vs netflix show i understand) which has a very similar concept. the exhausted female lead gets ripped from her world into a new, far more colorful one, with wacky characters that they initially have trouble getting along with, as they fight to get back to their own world. the biggest difference here, though, is that the centaurs are fun when we meet them!! they have a love for the place they live in!! and of course they have problems with it, of course its flawed, but thats something that gets expanded upon later on after the audience and the main character are already firmly invested in those characters. but when clown girl (my brain keeps calling her pawmi. thats a pokemon) gets to the circus, everyones fucking miserable. everyone hates it there, they all wanna leave too, and the whole time you have gods most wretched twink following along and making "ermmm... well that just happened" tier jokes. i cannot get invested in these characters, i cant get invested in the world, youve given me no reason to be invested. youve shown me that both the lead and the people inside the digital circus are miserable assholes (with like 1 or 2 exceptions) and that the setting is a temporary difficulty that has to be escaped from. but like, in just the first episode of centaurworld, the setting is already alive and vibrant and fascinating, and more importantly i think: horse's quest of finding the shamans is established. the shaman quest implies a long journey with concrete steps and exploration of both the setting and the characters. but tadc... does not have anything of the sort. it just plops the lead down into this lifeless place, has her go on a fetchquest that ultimately doesnt matter at all, has a character weve had no time to get acquainted with or attached to nearly die for some reason, briefly come across some sliver of random hope before getting it equally as randomly taken away, and thats it. its an exercise in futility, which could be an interesting thing to explore if this were a different genre. but it seemingly wants to be some kind of situational comedy or something, so the nihilism of it all is just very grating and trite. it feels like, for all its vibrant colors and character designs and wacky backgrounds, it should revel in its own whimsy, but it just doesnt. it feels like at every turn, the inherent silly nature of the digital circus is made fun of in a very marvel movie ass self referential way. the most prominent characters, save for the tooth guy maybe, are all unimpressed and jaded with their world. but, to compare it to centaurworld again, horse was the only character to be like that up until some of the last episodes. all of the centaurs took pride in their whimsy, didnt feel the need to be little shits about it, didnt have to joke about it to make themselves seem relatable.. thats how you get characters and audiences invested, not through some lame detached post irony bullshit.

i dunno. its a pilot, i think it has potential, but i will never like it unless it learns to be unabashedly whimsical. because without that sense of wonder and optimism it just feels really hollow and more like a project for the creator to show off their ocs than anything.

also i hate that stupid fucking rabbit i hate the "guy who sucks but the fandom loves him because hes sassy and tortured and (most importantly) skinny" archetype. die rabbit die
