Elephant Song (Riju Go, 1994)
there weren’t many Japanese movies up until this point that look and feel like this. Unless i’m wrong. Not that many after either. I can only think of super 8 grad projects. Cassavetes closeness with ADR distancing on a Wenders road. Anyway, a nicely small story of a kept promise, of a mother in a child’s eye. Great central performance.
