one thing that is often lost on modern audiences watching the Back to the Future series is that, in 1985, the DeLorean was well known for being a shitty car. The only reason the DMC DeLorean is remembered fondly today is because of BTTF; had the movie never happened, it would’ve been one of those fancy cars lost to time and remembered only by car nerds (trust me, there’s examples of this). Potentially the primary reason for choosing the DeLorean to be the time machine is because of how notoriously bad it was. We even see Marty question Doc’s choice to use a DeLorean, and at the climax of the first movie we see the car fail to start when Marty is lined up to drive towards the wire. The DeLorean was known for being overly heavy, clunky, prone to breaking down, and annoying to maintain.

Basically, what I’m saying is, if Back to the Future was made today, they’d use a Cybertruck.

The most prevalent, the most overused, the most insulting pronoun dominating the cultural atmosphere is me/mine. To identify only with what benefits oneself. To see you as the center above all others.

The thing is… Even those with perceived importance, power and statue are but insignificant blips in time, the same recycled matter from billions of years. All will die, all will be returned to that hence we came from, and given the passing of millennia, all will be forgotten.

We must ask ourselves. In this blink of an eye of our meaningless existence who do we want to be, what do we want to do, and what will the legacy of our moment in history be?

Will we trash and poison the rock we inhabit, leaving a mess for others to cope with in their blip of existence? Will we make the lives of fellow insignificant beings difficult and add to their pain? Will we establish totalitarian regimes to rule over future generations, increasing suffering for them?

Or will we help out our fellow traveler in this journey of mediocrity? We are not beautiful or unique snowflakes, we are the cumulation of those who came before us and those who came before them. None of which would be possible without cooperation, collaboration, compassion, and kindness.

The human race is not particularly agile, not overtly strong, not fast on their feet, or endowed with great physical attributes. We survived together! We survived through complex thought, critical thinking, and unexplainable series of emotions. Emotions that persuade us to look out for one another, to protect each other, to feel satisfaction for others joy regardless if it impacts us.

Over the past several hundred years this collective empathy has been tarnished. The phrase goes, a few bad apples spoils the batch. Handfuls of bad apples, consumed by greed, overwhelmed with self importance, guided by an insatiable desire to consume, dominate and indulge, others be damned has permeated. The needs of the many relinquished for the lust of the few.

This has broken the social contract we once had. This has bred an environment of self preservation above all. It has incubated the rot which decays our world today.

We are better together. We are stronger unified. We are powerful only in our solidarity.

Again. Ask yourself. Not what benefits you, what you need, but what you can do to ease the burden of all, to add to the collective good of this world, a world we all share, a world we won’t reside in long, a world that will go on.

Not content with buying the presidency, billionaire Elon Musk has now set his sights on the Wisconsin state Supreme Court. A group tied to him is spending more than $1 million ahead of an April election to determine the fate of abortion rights, voting rights, and even what party controls the legislature in the state. The group Building America’s Future, a PAC Musk has donated to, is spending $1.6 million on ads in the race to boost conservative nominee Brad Schimel, a former state attorney general who has groveled at Musk and President Donald Trump's feet. "Very important to vote Republican for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prevent voting fraud!" Musk wrote in a post on X, supporting Schimel’s candidacy. Schimel faces off against Susan Crawford, a circuit court judge for Dane County, in the April 1 contest, which will determine whether liberals maintain the 4-3 majority they won in 2023. If Schimel wins, conservatives will retake the state’s highest court and help Republicans impart their right-wing agenda on the decidedly purple state. Schimel’s victory would put the future of abortion rights in Wisconsin in doubt. He has supported a law passed in 1849 that says, “Any person, other than the mother, who intentionally destroys the life of an unborn child is guilty of a Class H felony.” The law is currently blocked from enforcement after a lower state court ruled that it pertains only to feticide, not to consensual medical abortions. But if Schimel wins and the court flips back to conservative control, the state Supreme Court could hear an appeal of the case that allows the ban to go into effect.

Elon Musk, not content with buying the 2024 elections to get Donald Trump elected into office, is trying to turn the Wisconsin Supreme Court red by spending almost $3M worth.
