@fuck-em-up-your-grace so I skimmed the rest of the manga and here's what I found—

Once in the Dark World chapter.

Several times in the Pyramids chapters (or directly around it) with Green—since he's, you know, using the Moon Pearl.

And then when Shadow dies.

There were multiple nighttime scene-setting panels where a moon wouldn't be out of place at all, like the town at the very beginning, and multiple shots of the castle or the tower of winds. And yet, they only appear here...

Another Point in Favor of Vidow

By this point, many of us in the Four Swords manga fandom are aware of the relationship that is (or maybe isn't) implied between Vio and Shadow. I agree that it is up for some debate, but also my opinion is that the relationship is as clear as it can get, operating within the bounds of its context—that is, early-2000s Japan, kids' manga, the bias against gay couples.

This is just another pin on the conspiracy board of red lines!

The moon is present in three main places during the Vio/Shadow arc—very first (and most damning) when the two meet one-on-one, once in a panel showing the Fire Temple that the two are hanging out in, and once behind the two as they ride on the dragon to cause chaos. (Many thanks to @hauntinghyrule for helping me find those!)

There is a common belief in Japan that the author Natsume Souseki once told a student that their translation was wrong. They'd translated "I love you" (romantic) as "kimi o aisu," and he thought it was far too blunt. He was a product of the Meiji era, and preferred the idea that the Japanese language should be more poetic and subtle. He then proposed the idea that instead of "ware kimi wo aisu," one should say "tsuki ga kirei desu ne" instead, which translates to English more as "the moon is beautiful, isn't it?" (You can read more about that, and why the guy might not have actually said it, here!)

You can see where I'm going with this.

Whether or not Souseki actually said it, the phrase is widely understood to be a sideways way of saying "I love you." The moon has a lot of meanings in Japanese culture and language, and I won't say that this is the interpretation, or if our lovely authors meant this at all, but they might have. They seem fond of hinting at it. ("We feel blessed that the characters' feelings came across so clearly.")

If we can read into the presence of the moon as presence of romantic possibility, what happens then? Well. A lot.

When Shadow first approaches Vio, he's seen hanging out on top of a pine tree with the moon bright and full behind him.

This isn't the actual manga panel, I don't have that right now, but this art was based on that specific scene, and you may recognize it. There are a few other panels this scene that Vidow shippers like to call out—Vio's apparent blush when Shadow casually moves his sword away (a power move regardless of intent that made me fall in love with him), or the way Shadow hangs on Vio when persuading him to turn to the dark side. If we can read the moon's presence as a hint towards romance, then it's pretty clear what's being implied here—there's an element of seduction.

The second place we see the moon is just after Vio and Shadow's heart-to-heart on the balcony, one of the only canon interactions between them during this period without a lot of plot happening. Here's the panel I mean:

Like hauntinghyrule pointed out, if the moon is visible here, it was likely present during that conversation. That feels like reaching, but I think it's pretty significant that we can see the moon in this panel, too. It's here for that bonding moment. It's part of establishing the tone and setting. If the moon is inherently romantic, then so is this scene.

And then the third panel that the moon is seen in is this one, Vio and Shadow flying on a dragon to bring chaos and fire:

If the moon means romance, then this is a date. They've had their moment, they're in love, all is going well.

It might not mean that much. I could be veering into atla-levels of overanalyzation, for sure! However, this feels like something that could definitely be intentional. "月が綺麗ですね" is understood to sort-of kind-of mean "I love you," turning the moon into a symbol of implied love.

And...it's very thematic, even if it isn't intended. Come on. The moon, hinting toward unspoken romance in some of the scenes where Vio and Shadow's dynamic is at its most stable? Dramatic. Amazing.

...You could read even more into it, and say that Vio is Shadow's moon—reflected light of the Hero or the Princess, guiding him to see the good, a desirable light in the darkness that Shadow insists he has to stay in. There's something lovely about that interpretation, too. :)

I got so emotional during this pile. So you, your spouse, or people at your wedding are going to be really emotional; this is such a happy and loving moment. When I was shuffling for this group the cards came out so smooth, smoother than any other pile. There might be someone saying “FINALLY.”

Because this wedding has been long awaited. Your wedding is a merge of two families, both families could have offered their support with wedding preparations or might have been so happy to witness your guys union. Your marriage, your love was rooted for, shipped even, maybe cried over.

I am envisioning a beautiful Catholic Church or chapel, cottage core greenery, lace, a white dress with a very long train, classy bun with pearls. This wedding is not a chill event. This is a wedding people have fought and prepared for. People have been praying, manifesting, crying in group chats about this love and preparing until midnight for. There may have been delays, but now it’s go-time. Everyone is buzzing with excitement.

Your spouse is absolutely floored by your beauty and appearance. The Sun shows they are glowing—maybe crying, laughing, and stunned by you. They had to surrender to loves timing and maybe there were doubts along the way but this wedding is reaffirmation of everything. They are not rushing this moment. OKAY. This wedding is giving luxury & glam. This is the type of wedding that is going to be extravagant and beautiful. I’m envisioning destination wedding, diamonds, fireworks, candle lights and soft ocean breeze. It’s romantic and cinematic quality. It could be a instagram worthy wedding so I wouldn’t be surprised by the guests hoarding the bathroom taking mirror selfies. This could be a coastal or international destination— someplace where the wind is cool and warm and the sunset like liquid gold as you hold hands with your spouse while walking the beach.

The family might have had opinions on the relationship or some drama, but it ends in awe of your wedding. You could have a huge diamond ring or unique ring. Perhaps the style of the wedding and venue is extra. I’m seeing a lot of diamonds and lace embroidery with pearls on the dress. There could be a lot of people at the wedding—you or the groom or both could have big families or could invite a lot of people. This wedding is quite cinematic—it’s like the K-drama finale or Bollywood wedding extravaganza—there could be a bit of drama behind the scenes regarding you guys or the wedding itself. It’s like tension and passion wrapped in bow. You guys are the type of couple who has worked hard on their relationship or on the future/legacy you want to build together. It’s giving power couple that have fought through some chaos, generational patterns, have rebuilt themselves for this union. For you guys, the wedding is a new chapter that is leaving the past behind. This isn’t some love story, it was earned by both.

Your spouse could have been through some rough patches in their life or even in the relationship or could have had internal battles. They could have wanted to rush healing, but they learned that real love is takes time and is built upon not burned through.

Before I started this reading I had the belief that this was a super traditional pile, but there’s something interesting going on here. I was sensing traditional, but now there’s something more. It giving Hollywood classic, who eloped you know? Right off the bat, I thinking this is wedding happened in someone’s garden or someone’s house. If not that, it’s a small intimate place, like local church or chapel. The wedding reminds me of a ceremony under string lights and ivy green fences behind a family house. Or even a courthouse with matching rings and then a road trip at sunset, lol.

When it came time to shuffle for this group, the cards took forever to come out and when they did it was direct and intentional messages coming through. You guys communicate in a very mature and straightforward way, every word exchanged is intentional and honest. You guys are the type of couple that don’t say much, but your silences shared are charged—it’s telepathic. You guys are able to give each other one look across the room and the other just understands.

The wedding itself is very intentional not performative. You guys are inwardly focused nothing and no one causes you guys stress. You guys are not trying to impress anyone, it’s about the vows, the soul agreement, and your love.

Whether your FS is male or female, I'm getting the impression that they have some similarities to Chapelle Roan, or simply just listen to her. I’ve already written everything I need for this reading, I’m just going back and polishing it, so I would like to take the time now to say that there are three consistent themes within this reading that appeared within this reading for me.

If your FS identities as male, I sense a mix of patience and a bit of impatience from you lmao, you’re sick and tired of waiting both for me to get to describing your FS and also you’re sick of waiting for him to show up, but I’m getting there’s this back-and-forth inside you of what you want your FS to look like vs what they’ll most likely look like. (I know what my next PAC is gonna be about now lol.) Look, my love, your FS might not match the exact picture in your mind. 

And that’s okay. I’m literally getting the image of a slightly sun-kissed, blonde-haired, bright-eyed, “golden retriever” type of boyfriend who could be a book lover and surfer who hangs out at the beach often and is a fond of marine life and what not, the “perfect” guy with a chiseled jaw and bright gorgeous brown eyes that make you melt under the sun. Thiiiis is not him lmao, but this does not mean this is “not” him. What do I mean by this.

Much like I told you, or the other side of Pile one if you skipped the first half. Your FS has some qualities about them that are different from what you expected. I get the sense that you’re afraid he’s not going to be your type and that you’re not going to be attracted and perhaps you try hard to let go of this and tell yourself that you’re okay with “any” type no matter how he looks like, but sugar, 1. I’m getting some of you are looking for more of a “Golden Retriever” type boyfriend but you’re likely to end up with more of a “Black Cat” kind of personality. They might actually be Black, like African American (I’m getting some of you are African yourselves, perhaps you’re from West Africa, you might be the same ethnicity but don’t worry this man will NOOOOOT look like your father lmao) or if they’re a woman, they may have more “Cat-Like” eyes and be a little quieter and have sharper more model like features than what you expected, think Nara Smith but with more of a bolder, Alt style/personality. But for others, they look like how you imaged but 1 key treat is just the opposite. Wow.. I don’t know how to describe your FS to you, I suddenly got this overwhelming sense of peace over me. I was just listening to United In Grief by Kendrick Lamar and now my phone’s Playing Blue Dream which honestly tells me so much about them. I feel like this person is just, honestly, a dream, I want to say they’re so pretty, but honestly calling them a beauty would be almost an understatement. They could be very spiritual, I’m struggling to pick up if they’re male or female, they may be non-binary and Identify as they/them or they may just be somewhat genderfluid. If they’re a woman, they have some “masculine” features to them, perhaps thicker eyebrows and wider shoulders, but honestly these features of their just make them appear even more mystical and more elegant. They can have very clear skin. If they’re male they might have some more “feminine” features about them, like soft beautiful lashes or a little beauty mark under the eye like that of a 1920’s actress. This person makes me think of incense, perhaps they meditate often or light some nice incense around the house, they really have this lovely earthy-spiritual vibe about them. If they’re black they may be light skin with soft curls, though for some of you it’s a tighter curl pattern, for others of you this person is simply foreign she could be south african if a woman and kind of resemble someone like Tyla, if male their ethnicity could genuinely be anything, though I’m getting they’re likely very mixed, they really give me Jhene Aiko vibes which makes sense given how she’s Black, Japanese, Dominican and something else I believe???
