I looove the placement of kiwami 1 right after yakuza 0, because jumping directly from the late 80s to 2005 allows us to experience time very similarly to how kiryu did. I spent hundreds of hours roaming around 1988 kamurocho, befriending the businesspeople, dancing at maharaja, fishing and gaming and drinking at earth angel, and at the beginning of yakuza kiwami, I was deposited in a city that had moved on from all of that. I feel a little pang of sadness when I run by the building where the disco used to be, and I think Kiryu probably feels the same way. The player and Kiryu grieve kamurocho together while rediscovering it at the same time, which I think also puts the player in a better position to really understand how long 10 years is, and just how much of Kiryu’s life he missed out on.

So, are Machete and Vasco both from Naples? As Italian, I can now imagine them talking with some kind of accent :)

Machete is originally from Sicily! But he hasn't been there since he was little. Vasco's family is from Florence.

Vasco's Tuscan accent is deeply rooted and clearly noticeable, but Machete is a lot harder to pin down. He strives to sound as impersonal and formal as possible, which renders his form of speech kind of stiff and flavorless. He's always been reasonably good at absorbing languages though, so I'd like to say that he can communicate in several of the major Italian dialects/languages if necessary. In work matters he readily switches to ecclesiastical Latin.

Maybe his southern origins show up more clearly whenever he's off-duty and his mask of soulless professionalism is a little looser or something.

But Dream post prison is definetly not in the headspace to do jackshit, so their arc is Dream laying down in the sun while Tommy complains about shit
