Thinking about Black Widow Luo Binghe.

Hear me out -- so just like in canon, Shen Qingqiu self-destructs to save Luo Binghe, dies, and Luo Binghe steals his body to put on ice while he looks for methods to resurrect him. But unlike in canon, staving off decomposition is simply not that doable for a matter of years, even with cultivation and Luo Binghe pouring qi into the process. The qi costs are still high, so is Xin Mo, and now Binghe also needs a special artifact that can actually preserve Shen Qingqiu, but that runs on blood sacrifices.

To get the thing working, Luo Binghe feeds it a bunch of prisoners from the Water Prison. Then he starts kidnapping cultivators to drain for his own qi reserves, but that's difficult, controversial, and he can't use the same victims for the blood sacrifice afterwards. Frankly, between one thing and another it would be easier to satisfy Xin Mo with dual cultivation, and focus on finding victims for Shizun's Snow White style glass preservation coffin without having to choose between using targets for one or the other. Especially given that, if he finesses it, Luo Binghe can extend the use of his sacrifices and get more out of them with fewer deaths that way.

He's pretty sure that Shizun would want fewer deaths.

Of course, he is not a fan of the logistics of the plan itself, but he'd do worse things to one day be reunited. He consoles himself that he's building up bedroom experience for one day being with Shen Qingqiu, and that it doesn't really count because his heart's not really in it, and also if Shizun got to spend all that time in brothels then it's only fitting that Luo Binghe be his equal in this as well. It still doesn't make it pleasant for him, but it makes him able to tolerate the necessity of it.

So Luo Binghe ends up marrying a string of rich and powerful figures -- mostly the villainous single fathers and mothers and evil uncles of harem members from PIDW, rather than their daughters -- and coming up with creative ways of making all their deaths a few months into the process look like accidents. After the third one people are undeniably wary of marrying him, but there's always someone with a big enough ego to think they'll be an exception, or stupid enough to believe that it really has just been so much bad luck up to that point. It helps that the universe is predisposed to let him hit it.

When SY wakes up in the shroom body and hears about Luo Binghe's succession of marriages, he's not surprised. What he is surprised by is the bisexual graveyard of toxic dilfs and milfs that has replaced the harem.

What did he do to cause that?!

And what does Luo Binghe mean that he wants to marry his own shizun now? Is this his new method of revenge??? Binghe, you don't have to marry someone to kill them!

My haitani father Shio headcanon is just a bit too funny cuz of how well it works that it sounds like a waste of perfect canon idea and crossover for both of wakui's works.

Aside from the obvious physical features very very obvious, identical eyes, nose, blonde eyebrows, rindou's face form, ran's hair color palette and (arguably) bonten hair style, blah blah i mean just look a the pictures below, you can also bring up any fact from either manga and add it to the hc and it fits in just SO WELL, i'll give the first example, The Haitanis are very obviously rich spoiled kids like have you seen their apartment? They have a fucking dj set, only rich kids with neglective powerful parents will have no problem paying for that, just saying, and even though i love him let's be real Shio is the type to be that parent, i mean cmon he's rich like crazy rich (filthy yakuza money yum yum) he tots would give his children WAY more than enough allowance so they can leave him alone, also the way they act, i've always the Haitanis were the type of kids that think they own the school cuz their dad is rich .

Nvm if this never becomes canon or both universes don't collide, it's just so entertaining to keep connecting the dots that were likely never there, like how Rindou is a heavy drinker cuz his father drank alot with the rest of the Yotsurugis and he tried to imitate him from a young age that it became an unhealthy habit or if you want to add more drama he only drinks cuz he looks up to his father but Shio favors Ran cuz he can posssibly succeed him (canon power complex) so Rindou resorted to drinking cuz it's the only thing like his dad that he can do. Heck yeah i made it angsty!!!

You can also add great context to his fear of Yakuza, picture this, when he was a kid he got up in the middle of night after hearing a loud noise to search for his parents and witnessed Shio (canon Yakuza) pew pew-ing some poeple and surrounded with scary men, that probably scarred him for life that he was so terrified when Kakucho got them interfering with some, OH OH something just came to mind, if he's the son of a yakuza yeah he didn't wanna clash with other yakuza families cuz it can end in a blood shed and risk his and his family's lives.

And i'm gonna add this one not very small detail and i swear i'll shut up (for now), i know it's just a stupid headcanon that is very far from becoming reality and i don't have to take it this deep but hear me out, why their last name is Haitani and not Yotsurugi like their dad, Shio is powerful and have many enemies right ? So he simply decided to protect his children and their identity by giving them another last name likely their mother's (yk like minato with naruto style plan ?) So Haitani is actually their mom's family name. I rest my case. Thank you for coming to my useless ted talk.

I am watching "My Happy Marriage" for the first time and I really want to like it but it's hard to get past the amateur level writing, and the unnecessary magical element. As a period romance it also seems to lack any adherence to the time period it chose, and it's a shame cuz I think it would be far more interesting if it solved it's drama by adhering to the societal rules surrounding marriage and laws at the time.

I'm powering through it but it feels like I'm reading a poorly researched fanfic.

the beanbean and mushroom kingdoms have an extremely close relationship that’s rather old, and as such the births of both heirs were highly celebrated by both families.

here, peasley is roughly 1 year older than peach, and the betrothal between the two was set up very early so the two do not remember their first meeting as they were infants at the time. but still, they visited peach many times before her debutante.

peach’s parents died in a horrific incident i still haven’t detailed when she was around 3-4, which did result in queen bean reaching out more often as peach grew older to offer additional guidance and support :]

but back to peasley and peach, they were thick as thieves and peasley introduced her to fencing! toadsworth wasn’t a fan at first but eventually relented (whatever endears her to peasley, plus any experience with a weapon could come in handy if the mushroom kingdom were to ever leave the peacful era). she’s quite adept in both forms, but prefers to fence in human form. it isn’t something she practices often in current day but it’s something she treasures the memories of alongside trying his bean pillow and learning about beanbean allies and his travels :]

though, as they got older, the two became more aware of their betrothal and what would follow, but things weren’t clicking so they decided to experiment a little (read: they kissed and neither of them liked it. sad!) but neither have brought up calling anything off as both are quite fine with something contractual if it came down to it (but peach would call it off if peasley asked)

at peach’s debutante, they danced together first as a show of the kingdom relationship, and when the first attack/kidnapping happens, the beanbean kingdom offered aid and refuge (little fungitown)

re: her appearance and peasley—she initially meets the beanbean family in toad form, but as she got older this became rarer as experience (and her self image) became priority. peasley makes sure to praise her toad form’s beauty when he sees it, and when mario does come into the picture is of the firm opinion alongside daisy that he does not deserve her if he doesn’t like her true form. on most days she agrees with him

as for superstar saga, he still arrives to the mushroom kingdom ahead of time and toadette volunteers to take peach’s place instead of birdo (the effect is later undone before peach arrives in the beanbean kingdom)

post superstar saga, the two meet (peach crownless) to discuss their love interests, and their betrothal is officially called off. consequent meetings with the beanbean kingdom are held in her toad form :]

I still don't buy him ever being into her but that's just me I do wonder if he's going to try and kill her again. I do think Li Rong is treating him too well for my liking she should at least treat hit similarly or worse than she treated ML I want to see wet paper towel non stop suffer.

on one hand, imo a SRQ who is heartless doesn't work for the story the writer is trying to share with us. On the other hand, it's totally ok to decide to be a full-time hater towards a minor character, just because it's fun. I support haters! 🎉 \o/ 🎉

One thing that I think is relevant when comparing LR's reactions: if PWX had killed her, the motive would have been as part of his mission to have his childhood love Qin Zhenzhen's son become the next emperor. (Remember, he came over to threaten her life over that right before she died and called his ex Zhenzhen lmao) THE AUDACITY. In contrast, LR is viewing her murder at SRQ's hands as part of the revenge plan for the Su family's execution.

Pei Wenxuan turned the fish over and looked at her with a smile, seemingly quite happy. Li Rong found that he had a fearless, unabashed look of enjoying a good play and couldn’t help but be a little fazed.

She believed everything Pei Wenxuan said.

Su Rongqing was someone that she saved with her own hands.

That year, Prince Su rebelled, and Su Rongqing’s elder brother spoke up for Prince Su. Later on, he was falsely accused of colluding with Prince Su, implicating the Su clan with treason.

He put the entire Su clan in prison without going through the Joint Trial of Three Divisions first and put the men to death and the women into exile. i was just curious about the five man band and their roles in their intro posts - seeing ash’s role as “the big guy” honestly made me laugh but i’m assuming it’s some sort of fighter-type role? or someone to stand up for others, idk 😭

their roles are so cool and i was just wondering about what they meant even though they might be self-explanatory (maybe theres a deeper meaning in it or smthn.. ill never know)

Hey!! Thanks for sending this, you've got no idea how much it means to me!

So this made me realise that I never actually explained the roles of the five man band so I completely get the confusion!

I made a lot of the original character posts before I did any more research into the tropes and stuff associated with members of five man bands (five men bands?) in a literary/media context, but now that I know a bit more about the concept of the band, the term "big guy" is a bit simplistic where something like the "powerhouse" is a bit more accurate.

Also, if you want to hear all this explained with a lot less rambling, the Overly Sarcastic Productions videos on the five man band (and all of the Trope Talks, really) were the inspiration for the characters in the first place, they're so good!

I might just take this as an excuse to ramble about the Band and how they fit into the context of a traditional five man band, since I think it's really cool, hope you don't mind!

So, the concept of a five man band is essentially the average DnD party - there are five roles, and each one has a certain set of strengths and weaknesses that overall balance out and mean that the team can collectively handle challenges that one member on their own wouldn't be able to.

The five roles are the leader, the lancer, the big guy (after doing a bit more research, they can also be called the powerhouse, which is a bit more accurate for Ash), the smart guy, and the heart.

The leader is pretty self-explanatory - Riley is the face of the team, he's the most dedicated to the cause, and he's the most like a typical paragon-esque superhero of the Band (he gets a bit more depressed and cynical after Carmen's death, but he still broadly fits as the leader)

The lancer is essentially the leader's character foil - Niamh is Riley's second in command, and she's the opposite of him. Where he's optimistic, she's disillusioned, and where he thinks (for the most part) that the Band are doing the right thing, she's a bit more cynical of it all. She isn't heartless (though she is aromantic), but she just isn't as willing to accept the world at face value, mostly as a result of being hurt by it in the past.

Basically, the concept of the powerhouse (the big guy) is they're the one in the five man band that can hit hard and tank damage, and Ash's pyrokinesis is the best power in the Band for going on the offensive (it's easier to just throw fire at someone than to shapeshift into a different creature and hit them, if that makes sense) - and since Ash is also immune to fire damage, she can take more hits than the rest of the Band, so she was designated the powerhouse (I'm going to change the older posts to say that - it's more accurate)

The smart guy is another self-explanatory one - Kai is the one that builds the team's tech and he'll make plans that the others will follow. In a lot of media, the smart guy and the power house have a close relationship (in the words of OSP, the big guy hits stuff and the smarty guy points them at stuff to hit), and I loved it so much that I made Kai and Ash best friends, since they balance each other out and feed into each other at the same time (I'm so normal about them)

And then there's the heart - apparently this character is traditionally called the chick - since they're usually the only girl in the team - but I use OSP language, and Red uses the heart rather than the chick, so I tend to go with that (especially since The Band is about evenly split gender-wise). The heart is the emotional centre of the team, and the one that tends to keep them together. The Band is a bit of an exception, since Phoenix is an outsider, but the way that they bring the other four back together following Carmen's death is pretty much the same principle of being the emotional centre, so I think it works pretty well.
