(This is subjective, but you asked! Idk why I wanted to answer this ask before your other one… I guess I felt some type of way. It's a bit more ranty/bitchy so be forewarned. I’ve been in the fandom since the ENG release, so I've seen a lot of stuff that personally icks me. Dw I’ll get to your other ask!!)

STINKY (But not metaphorically)

Why? He is an athlete and a prince? All the athletes I know bathe MORE than other ppl bc they get sweaty.  Besides…we all have bad hygiene when we aren't doing well mentally? So, this HC at best is just gross, and at WORST is offensive.  Also, just a question for ppl who do STILL this: Why would you WANT him to stink??? I never understood this mindset, even if he WAS that lazy. I simply wouldn’t wanna HC that he stinks. I love myself. GFBHNJM (Idia seems to get this stinky boy treatment too WHYY??? Sorry, I choose to believe my man smells good.)

HERBIVORE. (The H-Word)

I think where people lose me fast in Leona fics is hitting me over the head with the word “herbivore.” Honestly…he doesn't use the word as much as people think?? And I don’t think he would call his S/O at all. I find it mean? Because of the Japanese context of this word, and just the literal meaning. I think of it as more akin to the word “whimp” or “weakling.” It's not…cute to me? He doesn’t even use it for the MC later in the game as much. So, unless you're a lion beastman or fellow carnivore, I’d expect prey nicknames. Kitten, mouse, bird, bunny, etc. He even likens the MC to a “kitten” in a few voicelines. Just makes more sense to me, idk. Think of the silly nicknames he has for the canon cast. That or you know…he’d just use your name.

BRUTE BOYFRIEND

He's rude, sure. But no…Leona is NOT beating anyone up for looking/flirting with you. Would he be annoyed, maybe even secretly furious? Sure. But, he's not a “brute strength" kinda guy who uses his fists. (It’s almost like it's his main battle line!) If someone truly hurt you or did something off-color, he’d probably send someone else to do the dirty work to intimidate or deal with them.  In a real fight, OFC he'd defend you, but fighting cause some guy winked at you? NO. I don’t personally believe so. He’s a grown man with high intelligence, so I think high school like beef would be a bit beneath him?? At least he'd have one of his goons go do it.

ALOOF BOYFRIEND

I think where a lot of ppl lose me is the “aloof/stoic” bf thing.  No doubt he would keep his distance at the first instance of catching feelings because he doesn't wanna be hurt. At first, he’s only batting at you to gauge how you feel for him. But if he becomes seriously interested, and then you begin dating, I just don’t believe he would care what other people think. Or try to downplay your relationship. He’d wait for you to make the first real move, sure…but YOU’D KNOW. I just think about how he acted toward Sally in the last Halloween event and how he was almost “uncharacteristically” sweet to her. I think because Leona isn't super close to anyone in NRC—beyond a few of his frosh or respect-based relationships (like he has with Vil), we don’t see this side of him often, and so it comes as a shock.  Without spoiling anything, let’s just say…he was VERY unbothered at everyone's reaction to his soft side. He was focused on Sally and being nice to her. And if we apply this to “bf status Leona,” I think he’d be too focused on YOU to worry about what other ppl think of him. I’ve been preaching for years that this part of him always existed, and that now he just chooses who sees it. He saves his softness for very specific people he deems worthy of his time. Period. You’ll have to play a bit of a game to get on his good side, but like the motto of Savanaclaw: PERSISTENTLY proving to Leona that you care for him despite his flaws, he’ll come around. And when you're together, well- (I'll save that for the other ask) Especially if you are in an established relationship. He clearly thinks the world of you. He doesn’t have many close relationships, so you think he’s wasting his time with someone he wouldn’t even bother to be nice to??? Besides, Leona later in the main story becomes quite self-aware of his inability to reach out to others, despite craving affection desperately. He knows it's his blind spot, SO he's putting effort into being a good bf to you!

To further my above point, I think people forget he is a few years older than even the other 3 years, and…was raised by an old man? I think when ppl write him with low emotional maturity...it loses me. I get it, he's a brat. And often he CHOOSES to act like a petulant prince when it suits him. But, I think deep down esp in more serious situations, we’ve seen that he's wise, calm, and level-headed. Just some nuance, please.

“USING YOU AS A PILLOW”

Napping/cuddling together is no doubt one of the nicest things you can do with a partner. And I’ve even implemented this kinda thing in my writing. HOWEVER, there is a certain flavor of this I dislike. Esp when it’s “forced” on the reader/OC. Sometimes I find this is ALL ppl write about him in those HC posts, esp ones that aren’t Leona focused. That or “Leona dragging you off to be his pillow.”  (A bit of my life is taken every time I read this sentence now…) I know there are new folks coming into the fandom who may repeat old tropes, and that's fine! But, I STILL see this from people who have been here for yearssssssss. It's just cliche to me. I do believe he's a cuddly guy, EXTREMELY SO. It's just that specific phrase that icks me. Maybe it’s the implication that he does it against your will and is aggressive about it?? Just, no thanks.

"I CAN FIX HIM”

Okay maybe now we’re getting into the more controversial ones?? I think the idea of “tru wuv” fixing someone’s flaws is just unappealing as a concept to me and completely against what I think love is about. The “dragging him to class”, “making him dress up more,” or “forcing him to get along with his family” is not something I think he’d put up with. He’s grown, he's extremely stubborn, he knows he’s failing school. He doesn't need another person to nag him! Ruggie already does that! Plus, family relations are complicated. Idk…if someone I started dating tried to get me to talk with a family member who I felt genuinely hurt/neglected me, I’d be annoyed af??   I think he would find it all patronizing coming from a romantic partner. It's one thing if he chooses to be better himself or for his mental health to improve gradually, but forcing things on him and “nagging” him constantly about his behavior at school and at home is just what his family does so- He's flawed, VERY MUCH SO. But, I think when it comes to relationships…everyone has flaws they deal with easier in a partner than others. Like you can maybe deal better with someone being socially awkward, but can't stand your S/O having a messy room. Like if your “hard nos” are lazy people, your S/O dressing “sloppy,” or someone who can be petty and rude to others- Well, you get my point.  It's like....if you hate playing video games and wanna ship with Idia. My question is why?? I’m genuinely curious why you even like this character in the first place?? Hot take, (I guess) this is the reason I don't really ship LeoVil. It just rubs me the wrong way how it turns Leona into a “fix me” project thing. And not to mention how Vil talks to Leona canonically in a demeaning way. (I love you Vil, but you’re wrong.) Leona needs a kick in the ass for sure, all the twst boys do, but personally when a fic/ship leans too heavy on the dynamic of “I can fix/change him” it turns me off. As someone who's been in a long-term relationship… if your day-to-day lifestyles don’t align when living together…ya’ll are gonna be at each other's throats over the small stuff. That’s just how it works irl. And...I understand if everyone doesn't want to apply this logic to fictional ships.  I just personally am not fond of this dynamic. And with Leona being a beastman AND a POC, it often feels like a loaded trope to apply to him.

DISPOSABLE LION BOYFRIEND

Last one! (Maybe most controversial idk) I just think Leona is not good at being a romance rival, (assuming we're not talking about poly situation) despite him being competitive. While ofc I think it's possible for an MC or OC to have multiple crushes and things, I think Leona is someone who wouldn’t handle this well? Like, if Leona feels like he’s gotta compete for scraps of your attention, at a certain point...I'd think he’d just give up, or at least give you your space to come to him. He’s had to compete for attention his whole life, and I feel like he's too emotionally mature and ego-driven to put up with these kinds of games for too long? I DO think it's interesting to explore the dynamic of having multiple love interests!! I even do it for a lil drama! But…in gen I don’t prefer when it feels like Leona is just there to be the "the disposable love interest" considering all of his insecurities of being second. Honestly, in that case, I can see him giving an ultimatum? He's a grown man among...mostly teens, I PERSONALLY just can't see him being a love rival with a child. FGHJK

One of my favorite things about this game is how often we're reminded that Maelle is a child. Her facial expressions, body language, the way she acts like a sassy teenager but retreats into herself when she's overwhelmed. She's not 16 in the "16 year old protagonist who acts like they're a fully realized adult", she's 16 the in the way that 16 year olds are teenagers who think they know everything but still very much need to be cared for. It makes her ending all that more impactful and beautifully frames the narrative as a tragedy. She is a child, and the world has failed her. She lost her brother. Clea blames her for it. Aline chose her fantasy family over her real one--one in which she made a version of Alicia that she deliberately punishes for Verso's death. Renoir chose to chase Aline over his surviving children.

Maelle's found family in the canvas chose her. They show her that they love her. They treat her with the care and grace that should be afforded to a 16 year old child. Of course she chose them over a reality that has completely and totally abandoned her. Of course she chose what she views as safety and stability. Of course she holds onto hope that Verso will be happy one day. She is a child who is just trying to cope--on her own!--with earth shattering grief and abandonment. She was backed into this corner after reality failed her, and it will kill her.

Her ending is heartbreaking and disturbing. It is the consequence of the adults in her life who failed her. It does not romanticize her grief or the choices she made because she simply could not perceive the alternative. When I see people blame Maelle for her ending or call her "the true antagonist" I am sorry but they have utterly failed this media literacy check. She is a child.

ETA - not trying to defend one ending over the other. for me, personally, maelle's ending is so much more emotionally impactful and sticks with me because of how tragic it is and how it highlights, without romanticizing, that sometimes grief wins. i prefer it from a storytelling perspective.

verso's ending is ofc the more hopeful one but maelle's ending has so many more layers for me.

Some thoughts

I have SWK listed up taller than DO - in my AU, the DO starts out being 160cm tall and then grows with each artifact he collects. It's also why in some of my art you can see DO being taller than Oz, or the same height as her.

By the time the journey comes to an end, Oz's hair has grown longer. She's still undecided about cutting it or not.

I don't think the DO has a high horny level, I think he is faaaar too focused on completing his quest of obtaining all the artifacts. But he does get flustered very easily when Oz sometimes grabs his hand or clings on to him cause something scared her, or when she compliments him.

DO does very easily get jealous though, he is a wee bit possessive. He does't like seeing other people or yaoguai get close to her, it makes him want to just wrap his arms around her and not let her go while glaring thousand daggers at the other person. He was not happy when Oz jokingly asked if the Yin Tiger is married and if not he would marry her.

DO and Oz switches between big and small spoon, although I think the taller DO grows the more he prefers to be the big spoon. SWK is the big spoon no questions asked ("You're such a koala sheesh." "I do not know what this koala you speak of is.")

this is where mephistopheles comes in. mephisto is known as a shapeshifter and trickster. the shapeshifting was what i had thought of first after i realized that ren had fixed his appearance and personality to fit haruko, the mcs favorite anime character. his original hair color is black, but what got me was the weather and the altered memories of other people and the MC. thats fucking strange.

mephisto is a demonic messenger that i took interest in a while back when i created an oc based off of them. this oc, conveniently named mephisto /sarc, was a.... a lot like ren. just a lot more unashamedly freakish. she was a yandere and shapeshifted but based on her story, she didnt really need to shapeshift to suit her puppets' needs bc . he was a puppet ANYWAYS NOT IMPORTANT.

it just got my gears turning because of the weird supernatural/surreal undercurrent that happens throughout the game. its so intruiging and i wanna know who ren is working with. auaygghhhh its so fucking cool

Emotionally reserved: isn’t great with emotions especially his own, bottles up feelings/ignores them, often leans more towards being logical in decision-making situations rather than emotional

I know this is a controversial take and I'm open for discussion. But I recently played through Mouthwashing aware that there was some kind of SA. But when I finished the game I realized it mentioned nothing about Jimmy doing anything like that to Anya? All it said was that Jimmy and Anya did it and now she is pregnant. Which ofc Jimmy avoids responsibility of. For this to work, it kinda implies that Curly is more of an asshole than as presented. Because if Anya told him and he just did nothing about it that is just wrong on so many levels. And I have seen some people say that she told Swansea about it too which would imply he also did nothing. Though for this I am not sure because I didn't see it in the game as well. I have seen people say and it is even said on the wiki that Jimmy drugged Anya with a drink. Which makes no sense whatsoever. In order to get the ingredients needed to make the drink you needed the scanner. Which at the time Jimmy had no access to. On top of that, even if he did have the scanner he wouldn't be able to get any sweetener to cover the taste because Daisuke hid the only other packet. And to add to that Jimmy was surprised when Anya told him there were medical supplies in the hallway. So there was no way he could have known about that beforehand. And there was only one bottle to begin with of rubbing alcohol. Anya also acted pretty normal around him even while in private. She had no issues being around him and never made any attempts to get away from Jimmy specifically. She only started to act nervous when Jimmy started to lose it. Which is ofc valid. Her not wanting to do his evaluation doesn't mean it's because of rape. She didn't even say that exactly. To her, it was just a drag because Jimmy never took these seriously and always gave bullshit answers. And everyone seemed to get along great before Jimmy let his jealousy take over. And Jimmy on top of that seemed to be pretty normal. So in a ship where they have no other ways to get off? I wouldn't be surprised if they turned to each even if it was just stress relief. Anya ofc prob would have preferred Curly. But he is way too busy with his duties to do that and not only that there is a weird power level at play there. With him being the captain and such. Daisuke is practically a kid and if he wasn't he was just introduced to the ship and hasn't had as much time to bond as everyone else. Swansea is... well Swansea (no offense.) So what other choice do you have besides Jimmy? Who at the time seemed like an okay guy? I don't know. I think in this case it's just the fandom trying to make a character much darker than they already are. Which you don't even need to do with a game like Mouthwashing. Tbh Penguin with a dominant side lives free in my head. Especially if he maybe isnt too fond of reader during a miscommunication (or other scenarios). I am weak for an enemy to lover trope. Even so we know that our boy is mostly totally sweet and most likely to become friends with everyone in an instant.

Penguin doesn’t get you at all.

He’s tried, every day since you joined, to be nice and accommodating, he tries to include you in group card games, attempts to help you with whatever chores you’re assigned, and stays up to sit with you on night watches. The problem, though, is you, how you don’t even talk to him when he tries to speak to you or anything really. If he calls for you, you stare at him with your eyes slightly wide, which confuses him greatly. If he has something for you or Law needs you, all you do is nod in response and leave, not even thanking him.

What the hell is your problem, what could he have done to make you act so coldly towards him? He just wants to be your friend, even when Shachi tries to suggest it’s more than that is what Penguin wants, but he just rolls his eyes at his lifelong friend. There are zero ulterior motives, he’s just trying to be nice and a good crewmate, that’s all it is.

If only you would talk to him, let him prove he’s not a bad person, but he’s just so frustrated at this point that he’s given up, Penguin has started to ignore you just the same as you’ve done to him. He only speaks to you now if Law needs something from you, he doesn’t even ask you to join in cards night or to go with him and Shachi into towns anymore. If you do hang out with everyone on game nights, you’re more inclined to sit off to the side with Law and watch everyone, mostly talking to your captain.

Penguin has mostly given up, you won’t talk to him or anything. You must dislike him, that’s the only thing that makes sense, isn’t it? Yeah, that’s it. You don’t like him. He can’t make you like him, so he won’t try anymore, he won’t bother. He stops talking to you entirely, even if someone else needs you. He just gets Shachi or Ikkaku to talk to you.

It does annoy your crewmates, to see the two of you at odds and not wanting to talk to each other for…what was the reason again? Shachi isn’t sure, but he’s tired of it just like the rest of them.

It's why he brings up the idea of leading you and Penguin into one of the supply closets, separately, before locking you both in and setting someone as guard to prevent anyone from letting you out until you’ve talked about things. He’s lucky that your crewmates are willing to help, Clione easily leads you in and the makes an excuse that he needs to ask Law something. In reality he went to get Penguin with the same excuse of needing to look for something, pushing the older man into the closet and causing him to nearly knock you over, before the door is pulled closed and locked from the outside. Penguin really tried to open it, for several minutes, before he sighed and gave up. You’d already decided to sit in a corner and let him be, even while he kicks an empty bucket out of frustration.

“Stupid, all of them.” Penguin sighs and sits across from you the best he can, though it’s still close enough that your shoes are touching.

You don’t say anything, you’re confused why you and Penguin have been locked in the supply closet. You know he doesn’t like you, you’ve known from the start, believing he’s always pretending to be nice when he invites you for games and the like. You were used to that, from men and women, but you’d come to trust Ikkaku and Clione more than anyone. Shachi was working his way into your circle, but you felt like Penguin was just messing with you all the time, even when your crewmates swore he wasn’t like that and he really did want to be your friend. It’s hard for you to believe that, even harder to accept it despite your growing feelings for Penguin.

Part of you wonders what you did to develop a crush on someone who doesn’t even talk to you anymore.

“…any idea why they locked us in here?”

Penguin shrugs, ignoring the fact this is the first time he’s heard your voice in the last few months you’ve been with them.

“Probably trying to make us talk or something. Bet Shachi came up with it.” Another sigh whole he takes off his hat for a moment to brush his hair back, barely taking note of how your eyes widen a little and you look more nervous, “Just cause we’re on the same crew doesn’t me have to like each other…”

“Oh,” your shoulders drop a bit but you nod, you figured he didn’t like you after all, “Yeah…I guess so…”

Odd, he didn’t think you’d sound so disappointed. If you two are locked in here though, he might as well try some small talk. There’s nothing else to do unless you want to make a supplies list.

“Can I ask you something?” Penguin has to think of how to word it when you nod, even as you keep your eyes off him, “Why don’t you talk to me?”

It takes you a few minutes to come up with a response, Penguin thinks you’re not to answer so he doesn’t hold his breath for one. It stands to reason, you don’t talk to him normally anyway.

“My last crew, well, just a couple of them, they’d invite me to do stuff then go without me or tell me it was a joke,” you sigh a little while Penguin watches you, seeming to understand a little more, “I guess I just let that get to me when you started being so friendly, I was expecting the same things. I should—”

“I wouldn’t do that to you. I wanted to be friends with you.”

“Shachi told me that but I didn’t believe him…I’m sorry, I should’ve trusted that you weren’t like them.”

“…I probably should’ve taken things slow, sorry.”

You both stay quiet for a bit after that, not sure what else to say or talk about. It feels so awkward, you hate this kind of forced small talk. Penguin eventually stands up, holding his hand out to help you up, and not letting go after you’re on your feet, giving you a slight smile.

“Let’s start over, yeah? We’ll pretend the last few months didn’t happen, and work out a friendship together.”

“I think I’d like that, Penguin.”

You two will move past this, you’ll become real friends and spend more time together, especially after Shachi lets you out of the closet and Penguin chases him down for it, threatening to lock his friend in their next. The next time Penguin invites you to play cards with everyone, you join and end up beating him during a far too long game of poker. He’s shocked but the grin on your face makes his heart feel weird, and he can’t help the smile that comes across his own face.

Man…maybe Shachi was right and there is more here…

Chapter Two - So High School

Lottie Matthews x gn!reader

AN: there is a scene in this chapter based off of a head canon you may have seen by @zengguos which I was honestly so obsessed with, I had to include it (with permission ofc). Also this chapter includes a soccer game and all my knowledge came from Google. I don’t know shit about soccer so if it seems off, that’s probably because it is.

As always, I’m not used to writing for gn!reader so there may be slip ups in pronouns somewhere as it is edited from my OC version.

The squeaks of sneakers against the gym floor and shouts between teammates could be heard as the Yellowjackets went about their practice. They were inside that day due to a heavy enough rainfall earlier in the afternoon that had left the grass too wet to play on.

You were currently sitting right at the top of the bleachers, getting some homework out of the way while you waited on Natalie. After spending a couple of weeks in high school, your routine now included usually being present at the girl’s practice unless you had some afterschool newspaper business to attend to. If you didn’t hang about, you would only have to return to the school to pick Nat up when she was finished, so you had decided it’d be easier to stay. You absolutely didn’t mind though, it was far more preferable than spending any time at home where your mother was either absent or just didn’t really acknowledge your presence.

Your home life was becoming a lonely existence.

Or it would have been had you not had Natalie to spend time with. Nat understood you in a way you feared no one else ever could. The two of you became fast friends over the Summer and had only gotten closer since school had started. On top of that, you had also grown somewhat close to Jackie and by extension, Shauna Shipman; the girl you had originally dubbed Big Doe Eyes before learning her actual name.

You were on good terms with some of the other members of the team, they were a lot more friendly than your newspaper club. The only person who really talked to you there was Jennifer, but that was mostly just business.

You pushed your glasses up the bridge of your nose, adjusting them properly before carrying on with an essay you were writing for english class. As annoying as you found them, the glasses were a requirement for reading and writing. You were just thankful you didn’t have to wear them 24/7.

“HI (Y/N!)”

You almost jumped at the sudden shrill voice from the gym floor and looked down to spot the equipment manager, Misty Quigley.

The blonde girl was waving at you enthusiastically, stopping from her duty of picking up cones just to say hello. You had come to learn that Misty had a very intense personality but seemingly good intentions. It seemed like she just wanted to fit in.

You gave her a quick wave and a genuine smile, which was apparently good enough for Misty as she continued on with her task.

Misty’s loud behaviour had gotten a few looks as well as a couple of head shakes and eye rolls from some of the Yellowjackets. You could understand why they generally kept their distance from her but you couldn’t help feel for the poor girl.

You started to pack up your things once the team were in the locker room and proceeded to wait in the hallway for Nat just outside the door.

The atmosphere from inside was lively as always, the girls always being in good spirits after practice. Music was blasting and you could hear some of them singing along, Van being the loudest of them all as usual. You smiled and shook your head slightly as you casually leant back against the wall and waited.

After a few minutes, the girls started leaving one or two at a time. Most of them said a quick hello to you on their way out, including one of your favourite members of the team, Lottie Matthews.

You weren’t close like you were with Nat and Jackie, but Lottie always made a point to greet you and ask about your day whenever you passed each other. It was the very early stages of a blossoming friendship but you both never seemed to get passed small talk, no matter how happy you were to see each other.

“Hey, (Y/N),” Lottie greeted with an affectionate smile.

You looked up at her, constantly reminded of your height difference when you were this close.

“Oh, hi Lottie,” you replied. “Good practice?”

“Uh, yeah it was… it was good.” Lottie stood a little awkwardly, one arm hanging down by her side and the other fiddling with the strap of her bag atop her shoulder.

“Cool.”

‘Small talk again. Why can we never get past the goddamn small talk? It’s getting awkward.’

“Your glasses,” Lottie suddenly said, her voice soft and quiet, sounding almost embarrassed that she’d said anything.

“What?” You asked, a little dumbfounded because why was Lottie pointing out your glasses?

“I like them.” Lottie’s smile was subtle but you still caught it.

“Oh! Shit, I forgot about them.” Now it was your turn to be embarrassed as you fumbled to remove them from your face. You weren’t in the habit of wearing them when they weren’t necessary but had forgotten to take them off after working on your essay.

“They, um… they look good,” Lottie mumbled as she avoided eye contact with you.

“Oh… thanks… no one’s actually said that to me before.” You rubbed the back of your neck self-consciously. Lottie was about to speak again but was cut off when Nat burst through the locker room door.

The two of you jumped at the sudden and loud interruption.

“(L/N)! Hey, can we stop somewhere on the way home? Gotta pick something up,” Nat explained as she threw her arm around you.

“That depends,” you asked, knowing exactly what Nat was going to be picking up. “Are you gonna share?”

“Oh please, I always share with you,” Nat replied without even thinking about it. “Hi Lottie, bye Lottie.”

And with that, she steered you down the hallway towards the exit without giving poor Lottie a chance to say goodbye, leaving her standing alone, a little taken aback at the abrupt ending to an almost conversation.

Lottie sighed to herself before making her own way out of the school building to head home, left with her own wonderings as to why she was having such a hard time getting to know you.

Music was blaring from the trailer as the two of you were hanging out that evening. Your mother was currently in work, which meant the home was free for you and Nat to hang out in without having to worry about bothering anyone.

The pot on the stove was starting to boil and you stirred it continuously, the mac ‘n cheese inside almost ready. Meanwhile, Nat was sitting cross-legged on the living room floor, expertly rolling a couple of joints for future use.

“Hey, what time’s your mom due back?” Nat asked as she finished making her second joint with the weed that she’d bought on your way home after school.

“Oh, not until around 3am. She’s working the bar tonight, so it’ll be a late one as usual,” you replied while you dished out your meal.

“Don’t you get lonely being home alone all the time?” Nat tried to sound casual, you could tell, but there was an obvious undertone of care.

You came and sat on the floor across from Nat, placing your bowls of pasta on the coffee table next to you.

“Of course,” you replied simply. “But it’s also lonely when she’s home as well. We never talk anymore.”

“Bummer. So she’s not getting any better at all?”

“Not really,” You said before taking a bite of your food. “I’m getting used to it though. No big deal.”

Nat could tell you were deflecting, trying to act casual so as not to get too deep into a conversation about your mother. So she changed the subject.

“Hang on, didn’t you say you were lactose intolerant?” She asked, eyeing up the mac ‘n cheese.

“Well yeah, but there’s no way this is real cheese!”

Watching the Yellowjackets first game of the season was intense to say the least. You and Jennifer were in attendance, of course, in order to document it. You had no idea it would be so thrilling, you’d never been much of a lover of sports before. You figured it must be because you actually knew these girls, so you were personally invested.

Natalie, who you’d found out was a winger, was incredible. As was Tai, their other winger. You hadn’t really got a chance to meet and talk to Tai properly just yet but you could tell how talented she was.

Shauna also stood out to you, often taking the ball from the opposing team and passing it expertly to one of the wingers. She was clearly the fastest on the team, at least from what you could tell as you watched her through the lens of your camera, getting some great shots of the defensive midfielder.

On the Yellowjackets goal side, where Van was, you noticed Lottie on the defence as the ball was coming her way by the other player’s striker. You watched on with baited breath as the other team was about to make a kick towards the goal but was swiftly intercepted by Lottie, who had an obvious height and strength advantage. The opposing team member was aggressively shoved aside as Lottie tackled the ball away and passed it to Shauna. It wasn’t enough of a push to cause injury but it certainly was enough for the referee to pull out his yellow card.

You let out a breath you hadn’t realised you’d been holding as the game continued.

“You owe me $5,” you heard from behind you.

“Ah shit, not again,” you turned to see who the voices belonged to and saw both Gen and Melissa sitting on the bench, the latter of which looked miserable at having apparently lost a bet.

“Are you guys betting against your own team members?” You asked with a lighthearted chuckle as you backed up towards them, eyes still on the field.

“Oh yeah,” Gen replied with glee. “We do it every game, see who gets carded first.”

“We very rarely ever get red carded in games but almost always get a yellow card. The usual culprits are either Lottie, Mari, and sometimes Tai,” Melissa explained. “Although Mari’s is usually for verbal aggression. She loves running her mouth.”

“Last year, she called bullshit on the referee and told him she’d visited the nursing home to fuck his dad!” Gen said as she tried not to laugh at her own story.

“Holy shit, are you fucking kidding me?!” You couldn’t help but cackle at that.

“Nah, that’s just typical Mari honestly,” said Melissa.

“So how come Lottie and Tai get carded so much?”

“Well that was a prime example of Lottie’s behaviour,” Gen explained. “They’re both aggressive but Lottie’s is more strategic. If she sees an opposing player with a good chance of making a goal, she’ll just take them out. But she doesn’t do it every game, juuust enough that she doesn’t get banned from playing, so it’s likely you won’t see her do it again for a good while. It’s a somewhat drastic measure.”

You listened as the girl continued.

“Tai, on the other hand, just seems to lose herself sometimes. Like she’s so focused on the game, she completely disregards opposing players which can lead to a foul. She doesn’t get carded as often as the other two though.”

The timer was counting down, the game’s end imminent as they entered their last few seconds. Despite the Yellowjackets playing impeccably, the other team had also done incredibly well, the score currently tied at 1-1. Neither team had done a great job at getting past the other’s defensive positions.

You were subconsciously chewing on your bottom lip as you watched the ball in the other team’s possession.

Until Nat intercepted it, passed it to Shauna, who then immediately kicked it to Jackie, seemingly knowing exactly where she was on the field without so much as a second glance. Every single one of the girls were so in sync with each other, it was almost mesmerising to you.

Jackie took a chance as soon as she had the ball and aimed a kick at the opposing goal. The entire crowd and field went silent as they watched the ball fly over numerous heads, straight through the arms of the goalie, and into the back of the net.

The roars from the crowd were instantaneous. The Yellowjackets had won their first game of the year at 2-1.

Nat was right, they were legendary.

The change in atmosphere on the field was immediate, half the girls storming off with their heads hung low in defeat, and the other half all crowding around each other as they jumped up and down whilst chanting.

“Buzz, buzz, buzz!”

You couldn’t help but laugh in excitement as you ran closer to the team to take some celebratory shots of them.

You were so caught up in your camera, you almost didn’t notice one of the girls jogging over to you.

“Oh my god, (Y/N)! We won!” It was all you heard as you found yourself being scooped into someone’s arms for a bone-crushing hug, your own arms trapped by your sides. You realised it was Lottie before the girl released you from her grip but kept her hands on your upper arms, almost as if she was trying to keep you in place.

This was the first time the two of you had actually physically touched, you realised.

You were both grinning at each other for a few seconds before Lottie let her arms drop and you finally spoke up.

“Hey Little Miss Yellow Card, I can’t believe I saw you do that!”

“Worth it,” was all Lottie replied with a small shrug, trying and failing to hide how proud she was behind an almost bashful smirk.

“Yeah well, if you hadn’t have done that, they would’ve scored an extra goal and you wouldn’t have won so… good job.”

Lottie found herself being caught off guard by the genuine praise coming from you.

“So, uh… you’re coming over to Jackie’s later to celebrate with us, right?” She mustered up the courage to ask. “It’s only gonna be small compared to the usual parties she has. Team members and approved friends only.”

“Oh?” You asked half-jokingly. “I’m an approved friend, am I?”

Lottie let out a small chuckle before answering.

“Please, the entire team loves you. It’d be weird if you weren’t there.”

“Then I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” you confirmed with a grin.

“I guess I’ll see you later then,” Lottie said, satisfied with your answer. She returned to the rest of the team, who were starting to disperse off the field and back into the school building, the joy absolutely radiating from each and every one of them.

Later that afternoon, you found yourself in the school’s darkroom, illuminated by the dull red light as you developed the film from that day’s soccer game.

As predicted, you’d managed to get some excellent shots of Shauna whilst she’d been sprinting down the field, a great shot of Nat tackling another player for the ball, and one of Jackie as she was kicking the ball for the winning goal.

Considering you had never photographed a sports game before, you were fairly proud of what you had accomplished. Any of these shots would look great in the next issue of The Buzz Bulletin.

Your favourites though, were of the ones you’d captured after the game, where the girls were all huddled together celebrating.

One photo in particular really caught your eye. Amongst the crowd of girls, Lottie could be seen looking over towards you (and in doing so, looking right at the camera) with nothing short of a breath taking smile on her face. You figured you must have taken it right before Lottie had come running over to you.

With the ecstatic look on the soccer player’s face, you had manage to capture just how truly beautiful Lottie was and you felt your heart skip a beat as you gazed at the photo.

Perhaps you would keep this one for your personal portfolio.

Marbit figure skating au stuff because I cannot stop thinking about this. Will I write this into a fanfic? Probably. Anyways this turned out super long please if anyone wants to yap about this my dms and asks are open.

-Marcia first getting into figure skating because of her mom.

-like her mom is a really artistic person in general and it was something her parents both did for fun and taught her how to skate.

-It was something she could have control over and not worry about how to fit in and if she was doing things right. It allowed her to express herself in ways she had never thought about before.

-Two-bit truly got Into hockey because soda wanted to try it out but didn't want to do it alone.

-but the more they practiced together the more in love he fell into with it.

-hockey helped keep him from spiraling down a dark road, gave him an outlet to let out on instead of drinking himself Into the ground.

-anyways two and mar use the same rink to practice in, both preferring to practice at night.

-one day the rink accidentally booked both of them atthe same time. Two being too stubborn to just let her have it and mar refusing to give up any practice time they both just end up arguing with each other about who gets it.

-this goes on for awhile them always fighting for the rink. One day Two comes in with Soda to practice and sees Marcia already there running her routine with Cherry yelling out corrections.

-Two hadn't actually ever seen her practice before but seeing her be so connected to the music blasting through the speakers and the emotions clear on her face he couldn't help the grin that worked its way onto his face.

-Soda clocks this immediately and is like "dude ur so down right bad stop"

-Ofc he denied it but Mar comes over and says he could have the rink. He stops her before she leaves and comes up with a compromise. She gets it every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday while he gets it every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and they’ll alternate Sunday.

-She smiles and puts out her hand to shake on it. Two-bit right there thinks she's by far the prettiest girl he's ever seen. He's all fumbling over himself as they shake on it and she leaves

-soda shaking his head knowing that either this will be a super bad thing or a good thing for two-bit

-Cherry also clocks this but she's too focused on the other boy she recognized. Soda and her both exchanged a look seeing their friends fumbling over eachother before Cherry drags Marcia out of the rink.

-W/the new schedule both don't run into each other as much which both of them are lowkey sad about.

-they meet again after they both switched up who day it was for Sunday. They both almost immediately try to let the other have it before deciding they can take turns.

-Two-bit watches her work on her performance first and is just basically sitting there in awe.

-Two notices Marcia getting frustrated as she keeps failing this one jump and Two goes onto the ice and offers to help her land it.

-she takes it after a few more tries. Him gently placing his hands on her hips before lifting her and showing her how much more momentum she actually needed.

-with the newly advice she tries it and to her surprise it actually works. She just has this big ass grin on her face as she turns to two celebrating and he's just watching her with a grin plastered on his own face.

-she skates over and hugs him, thanking him for the help before pulling away and saying he could have the rink.

-bro is so down right bad for her.

-him going home that night and is like kicking his feet n shit as he's talking to soda about her.

-Cherry is also hearing everything from Marcia who is just as equally down right bad for this man.

-Cherry is also keeping it very to herself but her and Soda are talking the entire time two n marcia are working through their own thing.

-anyways Cherry drags Marcia to one of Two-Bits and sodas games. It's the first time Marcia has seen Two in action with his team. It's actually so bad.

-he spots her towards the end of the game and he has the biggest smile on his face the second they meet eyes. He winks at her before going back into the game.

-also two is a figher, that mf is CONSTANTLY beefing w/someone on the rink

-that game he and this other guy immediately start brawling and that scares the shit outta Marcia. She's never really liked fighting.

-past relationships that didn't end to well really pushed that fact, so not expecting it. It threw her off.

-two seeing the absolute horror on Marcia's face afterwards did not make him feel good. Typically he feels amazing after fight, well not amazing but it gives him adrenaline but seeing the utter fear resting in her eyes it did nothing but drain the life otta him.

-after the game he immediately heads over to her, apologizing the second she even registers it was him talking. He's all over the place but he just wanted to set things right and make sure she was alright

-that was a lot more than what some of the past guys she's dated has ever done for her so it definitely won her over. She tells him that it was already and just said she wasn't expecting it considering she actually didn't know much about hockey.

-he offers to teach her some things about hockey only if she teaches him about figure skating.

-the next day they both go to the rink and stick to their promise.

-instead of actually practicing that week they just go back n forth teaching eachother tricks and the basics

-anyways they finally get together after one of their little skate sessions. Two-bit has been planning on asking her out for awhile and he's a whole mess.

-it had actually been Darry who convinced him to ask her out. Two-bits constant chatter about Marcia Darry was finally like "dude just ask her out if it'll get you to shut up🫶"

-pretty much everyone else agreed. (Their annoyance was outta love)

-Two is like sweating as he stops her before she leaves for the night and is like visibly freaking out. Eventually he spita out a "anyways would you idk like to go out. Like to dinner? With uh me?"

-she has that smile two-bit always loves to see. She presses a quick kiss onto his cheek before agreeing and leaving without another word.

-and two-bit? Yeah absolutely dead. He stands there for a solid 5 minutes before steve Steve who was giving him a ride comes in asking what was holding him up.

-Two-bit just gently holding his cheek with a huge grin says it all.

-marcia that night is kicking her feet and screaming to Cherry about it.

-after a few dates Marcia is the one to officially ask him to be her boyfriend and he almost immediately says yes.

-they don't really tell anyone they are together but the gang can tell

-Ace totally sees Marcia at some point and does the whole "if you hurt him" speech before leaving her w/that.
