A lie, it had been.

They would never return home together. And Leo, always the hero and never the saved, he accepted his fate. It was his plan all along. He was never going to return home. Leo said his goodbyes and made his peace with no one waiting for him at home. Jason had Thalia and Nico and he needed to survive.

Leo cupped Jason’s cheeks delicately in injured, bandaged hands and pulled him in for a kiss. He tasted blood and salt from his own tears as Jason deepened the kiss.

But Leo was specialized in distractions—too smart for his own good to ever let things go. Once they parted, Jason was trapped and Leo offered an apologetic smile. He leaned in, bringing his lips to Jason’s ear and whispered softly as he choked back on tears. Then, for the last time, he walked away.

Jason’s voice was hoarse, his vocal chords ripped to shreds as he shouted and cried, screamed and sobbed watching as the love of his life was submerged beneath the crackling fire belonging to a pool of lava.
