It's that time again, but now it's for May! So let's just jump right into it;

Requests

I will have 16 slots available for requests. Length will be the same as previous events with 1000-2000 words allocated to each

Requests can be anything (again)! Just ask that they relate to mermaids/mermay in some way, be that directly or indirectly and of course DCA-related.

As most know I am an X reader writer, but as long as my general request rules are followed, I don't mind writing for ocs, canon, etc. 

fair warning though for the above, I am not familar at all with TSAMS and if you DO have a specific au, I will do my BEST to be accurate but cannot guarentee beyond that

For those who don't know my rules, no nsfw (suggestive is fine!), and if you want something specific, be specific. Besides that, it's fair game, request what you want!

Potential Issues & Schedule

If there is overlap between request ideas, they will be combined in some manner of speaking (if possible). If needed, I will reach out to you about adjusting ideas or the likes, though I don't forsee this happening. This would occur if for example, someone wants gift shopping with Sun with their oc, and someone else wants the same thing with a reader-insert. Whoever requested second would be who I reach out to. 

Requests will be posted starting on May 1st & ending on the 31st! I will likely post every other day, with the fic I'm writing suplementing in between ^^

I will be starting writing as soon as I get the first request, as I have a busy month or so prior to May SO, requests will be open from today (April 13th) until next week April 20th, or until I get 16 unique requests.

To keep things organized, please request in the comments of this post. This also helps to potentially keep from overlap in requests, as you'll be able to see what else has already been requested. If you request in my ask box or such it'll make things a bit more difficult, so please avoid that.

HOWEVER, there is one exception to the above, which is if you wish to request anonymously, which is completely fine to do! But please only request in my ask box if you want to be anonymous. If overlap happens in that case, then y'all may just get two responses with similar vibes on the same day (essentially a bonus lol)

General update things from me

As I said in my update post I am, very busy, things have picked up in my research so I'm in crunch mode to get done asap so i can graduate

I've been writing tho! Several things I'm waiting to share until I clean them up a bit but once mermay gets started i don't forsee another dry spell for a bit at least

Been working on a bit of everything, CS and HS both sit at the back of my mind but I just haven't had the time to really sit down and write for them both given theyre more in-depth with plot and such, will be getting back to them once im able to though I promiseee

I'm down a thumb rn due to a run in with a mandolin (the cutting tool not the instrument) but I will survive! not being able to draw sucks tho >_<

Toji helps you set up your apartment, and you try not to cry every single time you look at him. You try to maintain your composure and to not burst into tears at every subtle touch that he gives you. You try your best to remain strong but you’re so fucking emotional that it takes every fiber of your being to not break down every time he speaks. You have no idea how you’re going to uphold a poker face while you have a conversation about what’s going on and what you’ll end up doing.

You sit in the corner of your room, trying your best to hide from him as he does whatever he does. You want him to leave. You hope that by hiding he’ll take the hint, but you should know better. Toji’s stubborn, that’s what he has shown you the past months. Yet you still sit in the corner of your new room, until Toji stumbles in. His gaze falls on you immediately, your hiding spot to no avail. He furrows his brows in confusion, wondering why you’re sitting there with your knees to your chest.

He walks over to you, crouching down and asking, “What are you doing here?”

“Nothing.” You answer. He grabs your hands, pulling you up from your not-so-comfortable seat on the floor. Your eyes fall on the ground, staring at your feet because staring at him will make the tears spill out. 

“We should talk.” He says, and you shake your head. His hand goes under your chin and he tilts your head up. You look into his eyes and that’s what causes your tears to spill out. You fucking hate how beautiful they are. His thumbs wipe away the tears that stream down your cheeks, “C’mon, we can talk about this. Don’t cry, baby. You have no reason to cry.”

“I have every reason to cry, Toji.” Your voice breaks. He lets go of you, and you turn your head so he doesn’t see you cry. You stand in tension for a minute before you clear your throat, “I don’t care what you want me to do. I’m keeping the baby, and we’re not getting back together.”

“Why do you want to do this to yourself?” A hint of annoyance appears in his voice and you try to ignore it but it only makes your tears worse.

“I want you out, Toji. You only see this baby as a means to get back together, and since that isn’t happening, you’re upset.” You’re clearly irritated but your emotion doesn’t translate well with the mix of tears that run down your cheeks. “I don’t want to see you again! You’re so fucking selfish.”

“Why do you want to have a baby with a man that you don’t want a relationship with? You’re a smart woman, use your fucking brain.” He completely drops the act of the loving husband, and you wish you could say that you didn’t miss it, that you prefer him being completely honest; but in reality, you don’t. You want him to at least pretend to be sweet. It gives you hope for a better future that isn’t there. “If you don’t want to see me again, get a fucking abortion.”

“Just get out, Toji. I’m not forcing you to stay in my life.” You raise your voice at him, and he clicks his tongue. He takes a deep breath before he mutters,

“I have no idea why you’re so insistent on doing this.” It’s not meant to be heard loud and clear, just something that he wants to get out of his mind without getting an actual response. You’re clearly upset, the last thing he wants is to hear your answer right now. But you do hear it.

“I never want to see you again! Get the fuck out!” Your hands go to his chest and you try to push him out, but his feet are planted on the floor. Toji is huge, too big for you to move. “Get out, Toji! I don’t need anything from you.”

“C’mon, baby. Let’s talk about this.” He puts on the same act as before, his voice sweet as ever. You’re trying everything to get him to move, but he wraps his arms around you and pulls you into a hug. You begin to cry into his chest while you continue trying to move him. “I’m just confused, honey. You wouldn’t want to have a kid with someone that you don’t want to see again.”

“I do. I want my baby.” You cry, your arms giving out. You allow him to hold you, but you don’t hug him back. You refuse to hug him back. He doesn’t mind though, there’s bigger issues at hand.

“Why? Why do you want to keep this baby so bad? Don’t you hate me?” He asks, and you finally look up at him. You shake your head. There’s times where you’ve thought you hated the man that stands before you but it was just in the heat of the moment. You could never hate Toji, no matter how hard you try.

“I gave up being a mother to be with you… but now that I’ve lost you, I can have this one thing back.” It sounds ridiculous when it leaves your lips, you can always start over with someone else, but you’ve been given this opportunity now and you might as well appreciate it. You and Toji stare at one another in complete silence for a minute. He gathers his thoughts.

“You think you’ve lost me? But you left me…” He’s genuinely confused. His grip on you loosens, which gives you the opportunity to let go, but you don’t. You’ll appreciate his embrace one last time because you doubt this will ever happen again. You’re sure that after this Toji will stop his foolish attempts of winning you back. You’re sure that when he leaves the apartment, you’ll never see him again.

“I did lose you, Toji. I chose to let you go even though it hurts.” You swallow a lump that’s in your throat. You have to take a deep breath because you feel as if you’re about to sob uncontrollably and you don’t want that to happen; you want to be completely alone before you’re completely vulnerable.

“Why did you let go?” He asks the question as if you haven’t been screaming the answer from the top of your lungs. 

“You’re not the man I see myself getting old with– I thought you were but then I realized how miserable I am by your side. I don’t hate you…” You have to pause and collect yourself for a moment. “I don’t hate you, Toji but I’m not happy by your side either. I don’t think that I could ever be.”

“I–” He tries to think of how to respond but his thoughts get clouded. You keep looking up at him, and for the first time in five years you watch as tears well up in Toji’s eyes. He completely lets go and takes a deep breath. He would’ve rather you say that you hated him. He shuts his eyes for a moment, trying his best to not let the tears spill. He’s not a pathetic man. He keeps repeating in his mind how men don’t cry. He has to put up a mean front but he can’t.

You’re watching as the man that you love tries his best to not crumble down. Trying his best to not cry because of you. You bite down on your lip, holding back reassurance, but he doesn’t need any. Toji hasn’t tried to reassure you for the last five years until now. 

“We’ll keep in touch about the baby stuff. I gotta get going.” Toji ends up saying. He begins to walk away, and you want to go after him and hug him. To tell him that you’re willing to try and work this out. But you know better, even if it breaks your heart to watch him walk away.

“Megumi.” Toji says when he walks into his apartment. He finds his son in the kitchen, making himself a quick dinner; the teenager is accustomed to making his own dinner after his stepmother suddenly stopped. You’d offer to make something quick, but he’d always refuse. He was used to dinner already being made for the three of you, but things obviously changed.

Megumi doesn’t acknowledge his father as he grabs a pair of chopsticks and takes his cup of  noodles to the table to quietly eat. Toji lets out an exasperated sigh, his hand going to his neck as he stretches. He walks to the kitchen to wash his hands, and when he dries them off he informs his son, “She finally moved out.”

“I noticed.” Megumi responds. He doesn’t have much to say, and Toji doesn’t know what to say next. There’s so much to say but it’s overwhelming. Toji is slowly processing everything. Toji takes a deep breath before he lets it slip,

“She’s pregnant.” Megumi begins to cough, and he has to hit his chest a couple of times. It takes him a couple of seconds to calm down. Megumi’s eyes are wide when he looks at his father.

“What?” Megumi asks, completely caught off guard.

“She’s pregnant. She doesn’t want to get back together and she’s keeping it.” Toji continues, and Megumi’s appetite is gone with this new piece of information. It’s definitely a lot to take in. He’s going to have a sibling even if his father just got separated. 

“What are you going to do?” Megumi asks when words finally come to him. Toji has that same question. He just shakes his head and shrugs.

“I can’t do anything. It’s all up to her.” Toji answers. Megumi isn’t quite sure what to say or do with all of this. Toji looks down at the wedding band that adorns his left ring finger, and he debates whether he wants to take it off or not. For the first time, it feels so heavy on his finger. 

“Did you sign my baseball stuff?” Megumi changes the topic, and Toji rubs his temple remembering how he left it at his desk back at his job.

“I’ll give it to you tomorrow. Remind me. I have bigger issues.” Toji responds. He walks to his bedroom, and shuts the door behind him before he loosens up the tie that feels way too tight around his neck. Toji takes a seat on the edge of the bed, grabbing his wallet from his back pocket. He’s met with a picture of you as he opens it. Maybe he should take that out too.

His eyes fill up with tears again, it’s the second time that day that he’s on the verge of crying and he hates this feeling. He didn’t miss it. It’s a picture from three years ago, and he wonders how he let himself fuck up so bad. He wishes he could turn back time so things wouldn’t end up how they are now. At least not as badly. Maybe if he had done things differently, he’d be able to win you back easily. Maybe you wouldn’t have left in the first place.

He wonders what he’ll do now of all times. Not to just win you back, but how to deal with becoming a father to a baby when he’s almost forty. He thought that he would only have to deal with Megumi as a baby after his wife’s death, but it seems like he has to do it all over again. He has to become a better man for you and for your baby since you insist on keeping it.

Despite what he says and does, he really does love you, he just has a difficulty showing it. He stares at his wedding band for another minute, and he decides to keep it on, he’ll take it off when he loses all hope. He still thinks he can win you back.

Greetings and salutations! My name is Liana and I am 29 years old, female and I am DESPERATE for an RP partner. I’ve been RP-ing for over fifteen years now and there are still so many plots and ideas that I haven’t played out yet. And I’m sure if you’re searching for an RP partner it’s the same case with you. So I’m just gonna go ahead and list a few fandoms I would LOVE to dive into. But before that a few things to keep in mind:

• I only do mxf where I can play either the male or the female.

• Long-Term RP partners only! And please don’t just message me and disappear.

• I can play most characters asked of me. Though you might have to give me a couple of days to get into that character’s headspace.

• Communication is KEY! We have to keep that channel open. Saying that please don’t be pushy when it comes to plots you would like done. If I’m not comfortable with it I’ll say so. And if you’re not comfortable with a plot then tell me so that we can work our way around it.

• Expect me to rant, fangirl and scream over canon pairings and OC x canon pairings. But then you are more then welcome to do the same as well! :D

• Doubling isn’t a definite must. But I don’t want to be stuck with just playing the male character. I would prefer that we each pick out a fandom the other is familiar with and we each play one canon and oc or canon and canon, whatever fits best!

• Since I am over 18 NSFW content will be in the plot line though not the main focus. Unless the plot calls for it. Please do NOT contact me if you only wish to write smut.

• I can go from romance to adventure. Angst to fluff. And everything else in between!

• Plot! Plot! Plot! I love plotting. But I don’t want to be the only one coming up with ideas. Equal contribution is the only way to keep the ball rolling.

• I won’t be available 24/7. There are days when I am really busy because of work and because I'm a single mom. But just because I don’t reply doesn’t think I’ve forgotten. I do remember! I just need to find time.

• Please please please have a good grasp on the English language. Though it’s my second language I’m quite good at it and I want a partner who is just as good. My brain automatically starts picking out mistakes in whatever text I read and I hate doing that when I’m trying to enjoy a good reply.

• I do canonxoc. But there might be one or two fandoms where I am willing to do canonxcanon.

// That’s the beautiful part: it could be anything! For this devotional, I want there to be as few restrictions and barriers to my creativity as possible. I have so many art supplies and resources I’ve been meaning to use, and I think giving myself a daily excuse to play around and have fun is good medicine. There could even be works that aren’t visual art, such as writing, music, who even knows what I’ll come up with! ★ Why Johnny Joestar? // For starters: I think keeping the subject matter consistent is a really good benchmark to have from drawing to drawing. You know WHO to expect, but the shapes, colors, references and methods in which he’s drawn may vary wildly, which should be fun to watch unfold. 

It also probably goes without saying, but you have to REALLY like a character to be able to commit to something like this. I have a very difficult time explaining in words why I love Johnny without it sounding esoteric, but I assure you I love him a supreme amount and I find a great deal of inspiration in him. His sense of determination is so captivating and I see such a beautiful light in him, so I want to hone in on that and pull off my own great feat like him! Hopefully my art and hunger will show you what my words struggle to say.

★ Can I suggest an idea for a work?

// Yes!! Feel free to send ideas to my Tumblr inbox, the only requirement is that it must feature Johnny Joestar; though you can suggest characters he interacts with! Prompts, poses, expressions, tools, are all open to suggestion.

Keep in mind, I am under zero obligation to do any request, and some of them might be difficult if not impossible to pull off if I don’t have the specified conditions available, but who knows, you might spark something in me! If your idea is used, it will be credited.

(I’m gonna mention this preemptively: I have not started reading Jojolion yet. So I politely ask that no prompts involve anything beyond part 7, as I'm trying to avoid spoilers. I will edit this section once I have finished part 8.)

★ Why are you doing this?

// Despite the fact that I am posting these publicly, this is something purely for me. My greatest expectation with this devotional is to have a death of the audience moment with these pieces, not caring if the art I’m making is “good” or will be “well received”, simply that it comes from the Heart; that is why this practice was founded.

My own personal struggles with my art in recent years have come from an anxiety of trying to fit some kind of standard that was self imposed by my own expectations of what I thought others wanted of me, stifling my creative spark by chasing after dollar signs and being a Presentable Brand™. I forgot art was fun. I forgot who I am. This daily practice is how I remember. This is my form of prayer, hence why I’m calling this landing place a “shrine”.

Admittingly, the timing is very ripe to do this in 2025. Steel Ball Run’s manga is finally releasing in English in May, and it’s incredibly likely the Steel Ball Run anime is getting announced on JoJo Day in April. The hype for these things isn’t something for me to cash in on, more like it fuels me and inspires me. I’ve had moments in my life where it felt very hard to go on, but having something to look forward to in the future would always reframe things. I want to keep living and doing my best so I can hold that hardcover manga in my hands and be there when the anime finally drops because this story and its characters mean the world to me!

★ Why do this daily?

// I have done a few private daily drawing and meditation challenges before, and it’s a rewarding feeling to have done a little something each day that adds to your growth. I’m also a bit of a recovering perfectionist, and I fear that if I gave myself a challenge that required more time (let’s say, a Johnny once a week) it might make me lean into my perfectionistic tendencies. I’m already well aware I can sit my ass down for 20+ hours and make something nice, I don’t need to keep proving that. I’m trying to do the opposite: I want to be able to loosen up with my drawing, make peace with making mistakes, be a little bit more vulnerable and sloppy and silly with my soul’s expression. My hope is that by the end of 2025, the vessel of all the collective art will take me into a greater understanding of myself and the world.

★ Why post these publicly if it’s something just for you?

// I feel like the last few years of my life, I’ve kept myself rather obscured and tucked away parts of myself that felt too authentic and vulnerable. But it’s 2025 now, I think it’s time we unlearn shame and do as we please. I asked myself in earnest what I wanted to do in the new year, and he replied “I just wanna draw pictures of Johnny. :D”, so who am I to ignore that request? I have so much love in my heart for Johnny and my art that it'd be a shame not to share them with the world; in fact, I don't think I even could, and so I must share.

★ Do you have any alternative goals to do anything with the works produced here?

CARTOONY SKETCH PAGES COMMISSIONS [OPEN]

Hi friends! I can't find a job now so my only way to earn money is commissions :[Sharing is highly appreciated!

I have open commissions for sketch pages! Unlimited slots!

I only accept payments via PayPal. I can't use the invoice feature since I'm from Ukraine, so I'd appreciate it if you don't mind sending the money yourself. Also, I only have the "friends and family" function available. I can give you plenty of feedback about my work if you're worried!

TOS:

-There can be a maximum of 4 characters interacting in one sketch, but these can be different characters for each sketch if you want.

-Please provide a fullbody, colored image of your character (if you chose the color option). If you do not have a color image, you can provide a photo example of clothing. Please make your image clear enough to work with.

-If your character has a complex design, I may ask for an additional fee for complexity. But this only applies to color sketch pages.

-You can provide references for poses or leave it to me. I will show you a sketch of poses in the form of mannequins for approval. At this stage, you can ask for changes to the pose. Once the work is completed, you cannot ask for drastic changes, but you can ask for small interventions (close an eye, add a small object, change the color of an object). It is free.

-Small objects (book, cup, phone) are free. The price of large objects (bicycle, table, weapon larger than a gun) is discussed additionally.

-The price for coloring a sketch is divided for each character. For example: you chose the option for three sketches with two characters on each sketch, then coloring a sketch will cost 4 USD. You can ask to paint as many sketches as you think necessary.

-Usually I make the background white, sometimes I add colored geometric figures to the background. If you need a file with a transparent background, you can ask for it.

-I usually post the finished result on my toyhouse and sometimes elsewhere, so if you want to keep your commission private, please let me know.

Ikemen Prince Envelopes

I have a problem, and apparently it is trying to make the envelopes from these games!

No one asked for this, as per usual this was born out of my want of pritning out my fave letters from the games and keeping them around. I thought for the upcoming holiday, this would be fun to have :) There are envelopes for all 13 charas!

So there are two sets of envelopes this time, with a color taken from the Ikemen Prince japanese website for the emblem along with just a black version. Two different styles as well! One being a box flap that I enjoyed a lot, and another being one as close to the game's envelope style as I could manage! In general, and honesty, these would not exist without @fairy-marshmallow. She helped me find a pattern that was super close to the in-game one!

Please keep in mind that there may be minor mistakes! More details are below the cut (as well as links to my previous ikevamp ones).

Alright! So this one will be a bit different than the other envelopes, as they're a different style. If we look closely at the in-game ones, we can see they don't have the side flaps visible, so that means they're hidden by an enlongated bottom flap. So when you print them out, you're gonna fold is like this before gluing the bottom flap down.

I recommend using cardstock for these, but that's primarily a personal preference since cardstock does not crumple as easy (but can cause issues folding if you're not careful).

You could use a wax seal on these, but it may cover the emblem a bit when you do.

The top flap is not as big as the in-game one, and, well, that's because it wouldn't fit all on one page without making the envelope itself Very Small. So I had to sacrifice some length to get this to work.

I will admit that I spent a year on and off making these, and there is a minor mistake of the bottom flap maybe being a bit too long.... it may just need to be shaved down a little. Sorry for not fixing it, but I went apeshit trying to get it long enough :') Its just by a few hairs.

Gilbert, Silvio, and Keith have envelopes with this- and I understand that this is clearly a Rhodolite themed envelope. However, they Do stay in the rose palace there so,,, we can pretend they just use what is available and stamp on their emblem when needed (or use a wax seal of it but yaknow,,,,)

If I'm able to ever get a clear image of the Rhodolite crest, as well as the Obsidian, Jade, and Benitoite(?) crest, I'd love to try to make themed envelopes for that separately, but that would depend on how much folks enjoy these and...creativity limits....I know Obsidian would use an all black envelope but that would murder our printers.

I wanted to try and make Ikevil envelopes eventually but :') apparently those are all black, or a very dark grey. So do not count on me doing so. My printer wheezes already, that would end it.

I have a fun set of Ikevamp envelopes here, as well as a version of the envelopes they hold in their 2nd bday gacha card series here. They don't include spoiler characters as these were made years ago.

What's up Tumblr? As you might have been able to tell through my recent reposts, few analysis posts I've written, and the new aesthetic, things have shifted somewhat in terms of where my interests and musings currently lie as opposed to when I first revitalized this account to start being active again. This of course means that my first request blog may be a little outdated, so I'm going to remake it. Quick disclaimer, this request will be Marvel and Kingdom Hearts centric. While you could ask about any fandoms or ships from my old post, I can't guarantee I'll be as interested as I once was. This does not mean that old roleplays with excluded fandoms will suddenly die off, it just means that I likely won't be accepting anything new from those fandoms outside of special cases.

Before we get to the muses and ships, why don't we hear a little about the mun itself? My name is Devin–though some people call me Somnus or Sage–, I'm a gay ace trans male and my pronouns are he/they/it. I'm 21, turning 22 this August, and I've been roleplaying for about ten years. I live in The States(may the gods spare me) with my time zone being EST. Sharing timezones isn't required to roleplay with me, but it does help with scheduling conflicts just a smidge. I'm more of a listener than I am a yapper when it comes to conversation, so while I may not contribute much, don't be afraid to talk if you need it!

Alright. Before we move onto the fandoms, let's lay out some ground rules. First and foremost, I need potential partners to be 18 or older. Even without explicit moments, I'm just not comfortable talking with minors who I don't already know. I usually write around 3 to 5 paragraphs per response, but I can adapt to anything from one liners all the way to multi message responses depending on what I get from my partners. I only roleplay on discord and tend to use servers for the sake of organization. Dice maiden is preferred but not necessary. My schedule tends to be all over the place, but I'm usually available early mornings(8 am - 10am EST) and late nights(8-pm - 12am EST) because of work and the need to sleep. Some of the wording in the initial paragraphs and outline of the document has changed for the encompassing of purpose. While the Compendium has always functioned with writing/roleplay in mind, it's not the only thing that it's used for, and I wanted that to be more readily known.

Some changes have been made to the disclaimer, predominately clarity around irrefutable evidence. While it's common sense, I still wanted to include transphobia/racism as some of the criteria for Compendium removal. Basically: be a nice community and you won't be removed.

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

I want to put my Community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community/resource on the Compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it. The same goes for resources; if it's relevant to the game, it'll be useful to someone.

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, contact me asap!

New Dawn of Harmony is a AU series of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic that is currently in very early production. It has no official affiliation with Hasbro, but it will feature all the characters you know and love that MLPFIM has, with completely rewritten timelines, lore, and characters. It focuses on taking the already amazing story that we know and love and elevates it to a whole new, PG13 story and answers a few unanswered questions the series may have left out.

Currently we are still figuring out which medium to release this series in. It’s still be written and I am only one person working on it, but i have full intentions to explore all sorts of different media. At the moment, we are leaning towards Fully Voiced Motion Comics that will be released for you to watch AND read on an official NDOH website! This is subject to change and again, we’re still figuring it all out!

However, I love to share all the progress with everyone in my Discord server and other social media. The server is very active with tons of friends focusing on everyone’s art, AUs, videos, music, and so much more! We also host movie nights and raffles for art!

FAQ - LBSC Secret Admirer Exchange

Here are some of the things that come up every year, answered up front for your convenience!

What are the minimum requirements?

Art must be at least flat colors. Fics must be at least 1500 words. These are MINIMUM requirements and you are welcome to do more! We encourage everyone from all sides of the fandom to join us, but the pairing of Luka and Marinette MUST be the focus! Background pairings are allowed, as well as mentions of past LS.

Do I have to post to AO3?

No! AO3 is convenient for us because it allows us to reveal the majority of the works all at once, but you may post to any platform, or all the platforms, you prefer. Please just make sure you send a link to the mods so we can make sure your giftee receives it and so we can include it in our final wrap up list. Anything posted to tumblr will be reblogged to this blog, and we will do a post listing all of the submitted works at the end of the exchange.

How do I know I'll get what I want?

Well, there's obviously no guarantees, but we've done everything we can to make sure you get something you like, and every year our discord discussions are full of people worrying about whether their giftee will like their gift, so we know our participants are committed. Some people get really detailed with their prompt, and some are very general. When you sign up, you'll provide several prompts for inspiration, and you'll be able to note what you DON'T want to see, what salt level you're comfortable with, and what level of explicitness you are willing to read (none, fade to black, full NSFW, etc). You'll also be able to note whether you would prefer art or writing as your gift, and whether you would prefer to do writing or art for the gift you are giving.

Do I have to use all the prompts? Can I combine prompts?

You may use as many prompts as you want in one or more works, but you are only required to use one. Many people find it fun to combine and you can even do more than one work if you are especially inspired. We never complain about extra.

Can I do more than the minimum?

Of course you can do more if you're inspired! We're delighted when the event spawns multichap stories - but see the caveat below.

Does the complete work have to be posted on the deadline day?

We only require a first chapter meeting the minimum requirements to be posted by the deadline. However, please keep in mind that life happens, and try to address the prompts in your first chapter, so that if you are unable to finish or need a lot more time, your giftee still gets something that they can be happy with.

Can I do platonic Lukanette?

You may request platonic Lukanette in your prompts, but you must be prepared to write or draw romantic Lukanette to meet the request of your giftee.

What if I have a question about my prompts?

You'll also be given contact info for a mod who can act as a go-between to pass along any questions you have. We also have a Q&A channel in the discord and we encourage people to ask questions there and get answers from a lot of people - hopefully including your giftee! It's a great way to get a sense of your person's likes and dislikes, and it makes for a lot of fun discussion.

And the biggest question...

What if I sign up and then can't deliver? What if I can't make the deadline?

Hey, stuff happens! We'll have pinch hitters available to take over if you have to drop out so no one gets left in the lurch. We only ask that you keep in touch. If at all possible, let us know by February 5 if you need to drop out. If you think you'll be late, let us know. Dropping out will not stop you from being able to participate in future events. However, if you don't communicate with us you may be asked not to participate in the future. We send out check-in emails, we will follow up with you on whatever date you told us you thought you would finish, and we just need you to write back and let us know whatever the status is. We know it can be embarrassing to have to admit you're having trouble, but we truly understand. We're not going to shame you. When people don't let us know what's going on, it puts us in a difficult position trying to figure out whether we need to activate a pinch hitter, and leaves the poor giftee hanging for that much longer. There's no shame in admitting you can't finish - we completely understand that things happen! We just need to be able to plan around it.

Most people already know about Discord. It is typically used as a messaging and video call app. But I like to use it for my prayer journal.

I made a private server with nobody in it and made a separate channel for each deity’s prayer journal. It works very nicely and I can access it on any device that can use Discord.

There is also a witchcraft Discord bot called Cabot, which includes tarot, 8-ball, coin flips, moon phases, and other features. It is entirely free :)

Freeform

Freeform is an app built in to iOS devices. It’s an infinite canvas app where you can insert text, drawings, pictures, and stickers.

I personally use it for my digital altars!

Labyrinthos

Labyrinthos is an app that helps you learn tarot! It includes reversals as well. There are a few different decks available within the app.

You can also pull a daily tarot card (or a three card spread).

Moon Calendar

Moon Calendar is an app that helps you keep track of the phases of the moon. It also tells you about the magical correspondences of the moon phases, and which sign the moon is in.

Moonly

Moonly is an Eastern astrology app. It tells you about the moon phases and what sign the moon is in. It also tells you about conjunctions and if today is favorable for a haircut. It will also give you an Eastern astrology birth chart if you enter your birth date and time.

I use Pinterest for inspiration for my craft, but also to find photos for my digital altars. There is a large witchcraft and pagan community on Pinterest. I think it’s worth checking out.

Planetaro is an app that calculates the planetary hours for you! Incredibly useful. It has a widget you can put on your homescreen as well!

Smiling Mind is a guided meditation app. It has all kinds of meditations for all areas of life. Not necessarily a witchcraft or paganism app, but I know meditation is popular in both circles, so this may be helpful to someone.

Star Walk 2 is an astronomy AR app. You point it at the sky and see what constellations or planets you’re looking at! Very useful.

Devlog #16: Answers and Questions

Hello everyone! Welcome to this month’s devlog!

If you just stumbled upon this, I am Adrienne, also known as insertdisc5! I’m the developer, writer, artist, main programmer, etc of the game. The game being In Stars and Time, a timeloop RPG, which is also the next and final game in the START AGAIN series, following START AGAIN: a prologue (available here!).  You can find out more about In Stars and Time here!!! 

LET’S GET TO IT. This month is Q&A: Cohost edition!

“A Q&A again?” Heheh well I don’t have anything to talk about this month ✨ We’re working hard on finalizing the localization! And on porting to consoles! And on secret stuff! You know, the usual!!! Was this ever a fear for you in making START AGAIN, or In Stars and Time? Did you take any special precaution to keep these games within a scope you could handle, and did you learn tricks from START AGAIN that carried over to ISAT when in came to keeping things manageable? Thank you!! ✨

I had no idea that was a piece of advice given, but yep, that makes a lot of sense! Since I didn’t know, I went in blissfully aware, teehee.

I will say that I am familiar with working on big projects from working on comics, and with seeing big webcomic artists always mention to never start with your magnum opus… And I could tell ISAT had the potential to be way bigger than I imagined, which is why I decided to start with creating the prologue to get used to RPGMaker as well as making games. Kind of a pilot of sorts!

Again, thanks to comics, I know to keep my scope pretty small, because even if you keep it small it WILL balloon into something way bigger than you thought. Just for the prologue, I imagined it’d be a 20mn game, and it’s easily a 2-3h one! Keep your scope small!!!

As for tricks, when I catch myself thinking “wow what if I added this cool thing”, I try to always keep in mind those two things: 1. How long will it take to implement (including bug testing), and 2. Does it add something important to the game. I know we always want to add a fishing game, or a fun minigame, but do you Need It. Does it add something substantial to the story, to the Themes. Or are you just adding it because you like fishing games. Which is a valid reason, but also, maybe just make a fishing game instead. You are not the Yakuza series!!!! You are a small indie gamedev!!!! Think about you in 4 months who has to fix all the fishing game bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s so weird!!! The game has been done for so long!!! I’m very glad I asked some friends to playtest the game, so I could at least get some feedback before the game is out… In some ways it feels like the game will be done twice: once back when I finished making the game, and once when the game actually comes out. It’s just a very strange experience. Sometimes people tell me they’re excited to find out more about this story beat, or about this character, and a part of me is like… Wait, haven't you played the game? Oh, yeah, it’s not actually out. Guess you’ll find out later.

EDIT: My god. I just checked on my private devlog for when I completed the Alpha of ISAT. It was in August of last year (I lay down on the floor and look at the ceiling) (I still had to finish all the illustrations so really the game was Done Donezo in October but still…)

SO MANY THINGS. Here are some of them: support when it comes to porting/marketing/social media/localization, feedback on the game and how to make it better, community guidance, testing support, QA/internal testing… The game couldn’t be the way it is without them.

For more small details, I have a weekly meeting with my producer, Dora! We talk about the game and how everything is going. A couple months back, I also was checking in with the internal QA team fairly often to fix any remaining bugs. They also helped me find ISAT’s additional programmer, Isabella, and she is a godsend because coding is hard. They also take care of communicating with press, finding more opportunities to showcase the game in conventions, talking with the localization/porting teams… I am probably forgetting a thousand little things they did to help out!!! THEY’RE SO GOOD OK

Absolutely! I just went with the obvious. Rock is physical damage, defense focused, Scissors is swords, attack focused, and Paper is magic, mind focused. It was fun to develop a spell system around those! I’m excited for people to find out more about Craft…

I’m so glad you streamed it with friends… I hope you had a good fun time…

And for sure! Isabeau and Mirabelle were pretty set from the get go (himbo and shy wallflower), but Odile started as more of a gentle teacher type, even if I very quickly went the snarky old lady route. Siffrin and Bonnie were harder to pin down– I wasn’t sure how to portray Siffrin’s despair in the prologue, and started showing them more overtly depressed, but I thought it’d be Very Yummy to have them show a happy facade to their friends. And then, for ISAT, I had to figure out what a non-depressed Siffrin would be like, for the first couple acts of the game before the despair sets in. As for Bonnie, I had a lot of trouble figuring out what they’d be like, what kind of kid they were, what their relationship with everyone else would be like, and then I thought about what their past would be like and then their characterization was set in stone. Sometimes you need to figure out One Thing to unlock a character’s brain. I’m very excited for everyone to find out more about each character in ISAT!

It could be stuff you liked so much it inspired, something you found frustrating because you felt an itch to do it differently, or something that made you realise humans make things and you could be one of them.

I found a lot of indie games inspiring, but I think Umineko might’ve been the one that made me go… Oh, anyone can just make a massive video game narrative. And you can make it very simple, with kinda goofy sprites, and still manage to make an incredibly touching story!

As for frustrating games that lit a fire under me, I think I’d say in general, I found issue with the classic trope of the “main character helps people and doesn’t get anything back”. What often happens in some games is that you help NPCs with their problems, sometimes helping them with very intense, complicated problems! For a very long time! And, in exchange, you get… A cool item? A nice new skill? And that’s it?

I know this might be complicated to implement on a narrative perspective, but I remember playing Persona 5, and your character just went through a very harrowing experience (like, oh, being INTERROGATED AND TORTURED BY THE POLICE) and you help your friends during social links, and they go “thanks for your help! Bye~” like WHAT ABOUT ME. WHAT ABOUT MY PROBLEMS. CAN YOU GIVE ME A HUG

So on a certain level, I wanted a game where instead of the characters around you having problems, the main character also has problems. And is subconsciously screaming “CAN YOU PLEASE NOTICE I HAVE PROBLEMS AND GIVE ME A HUG.” And hopefully, the characters notice. Winks

Hm. I do want to say I wrote most of the prologue/ISAT during the pandemic, and I felt very lonely and not supported. But then guess what. I told my friends about how I felt. And most of them told me they had no idea, and vowed to support me more. And now I’m closer to them. So the moral of this answer is, yeah, it’d be nice if people noticed, but also, you need to tell people when you’re feeling bad. LOOKS AT SIFFRIN

It’s interesting, the songs I listened to for the prologue are generally more heavy and frenetic, while the ones for ISAT are more hopeful… I made sure to listen to more lively songs for ISAT, since that’s the feeling I wanted to give off…

That’s all the questions I have! In other, non related ISAT news, I have started a new project and having a lot of fun. It’s a visual novel this time. I’m hoping to get some screenshots ready in the next few months, but also I’m taking it easy on this one. If it takes years with many breaks in between to get it done, it’s fine. What matters to me right now is the process!
