Databricks Revolutionizes Data and AI Landscape with New Operational Database, Free Education, and No-Code Pipelines
San Francisco, CA – June 12, 2025 – Databricks, the pioneering Data and AI company, today unveiled a suite of transformative innovations at its Data + AI Summit, setting a new benchmark for how enterprises and individuals interact with data and artificial intelligence. The announcements include the launch of Lakebase, a groundbreaking operational database built for AI; a significant $100 million investment in global data and AI education coupled with the Databricks Free Edition; and the introduction of Lakeflow Designer, empowering data analysts to build production-grade pipelines without coding. These advancements underscore Databricks’ commitment to democratizing data and AI, accelerating innovation, and closing the critical talent gap in the industry.
Databricks Unveils Lakebase: A New Class of Operational Database for AI Apps and Agents
Tumblr media
What is it?
Databricks announced the launch of Lakebase, a first-of-its-kind fully-managed Postgres database built for AI. This new operational database layer seamlessly integrates into the company’s Data Intelligence Platform, allowing developers and enterprises to build data applications and AI agents faster and more easily on a single multi-cloud platform. Lakebase is powered by Neon technology and is designed to unify analytics and operations by bringing operational data to the lakehouse, continuously autoscaling compute to support demanding agent workloads.
When is the Launch Planned?
Lakebase is now available in Public Preview, marking a significant step towards its full availability.
Who Introduced?
Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks, introduced Lakebase, stating, “We’ve spent the past few years helping enterprises build AI apps and agents that can reason on their proprietary data with the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. Now, with Lakebase, we’re creating a new category in the database market: a modern Postgres database, deeply integrated with the lakehouse and today’s development stacks.”
Why Does This Matter? Motivation: The Driving Forces Behind
Operational databases (OLTP) represent a $100-billion-plus market, yet their decades-old architecture struggles with the demands of modern, rapidly changing applications. They are often difficult to manage, expensive, and prone to vendor lock-in. AI introduces a new set of requirements: every data application, agent, recommendation, and automated workflow needs fast, reliable data at the speed and scale of AI agents. This necessitates the convergence of operational and analytical systems to reduce latency and provide real-time information for decision-making. Fortune 500 companies are ready to replace outdated systems, and Lakebase offers a solution built for the demands of the AI era.
Business Strategies
The launch of Lakebase is a strategic move to create a new category in the database market, emphasizing a modern Postgres database deeply integrated with the lakehouse and today’s development stacks. This strategy aims to empower developers to build faster, scale effortlessly, and deliver the next generation of intelligent applications, directly addressing the evolving needs of the AI era.
Key benefits of Lakebase include:
Separated compute and storage: Built on Neon technology, it offers independent scaling, low latency (<10 ms), high concurrency (>10K QPS), and high availability transactional needs.
Built on open source: Leveraging widely adopted Postgres with its rich ecosystem, ideal for workflows built on agents as all frontier LLMs have been trained on vast database system information.
Built for AI: Enables launch in under a second and pay-for-what-you-use pricing. Its unique branching capability allows low-risk development by creating copy-on-write database clones for developer testing and agent-based development.
Integrated with the lakehouse: Provides automatic data sync to and from lakehouse tables, an online feature store for model serving, and integration with Databricks Apps and Unity Catalog.
Enterprise ready: Fully managed by Databricks, based on hardened compute infrastructure, encrypted data at rest, and supports high availability, point-in-time recovery, and integration with Databricks enterprise features.
Lakebase Momentum
Digital leaders are already experiencing the value, with hundreds of enterprises having participated in the Private Preview. “At Heineken, our goal is to become the best-connected brewer. To do that, we needed a way to unify all of our datasets to accelerate the path from data to value,” stated Jelle Van Etten, Head of Global Data Platform at Heineken. Anjan Kundavaram, Chief Product Officer at Fivetran, added, “Lakebase removes the operational burden of managing transactional databases. Our customers can focus on building applications instead of worrying about provisioning, tuning and scaling.” David Menninger, Executive Director, ISG Software Research, highlighted that “By offering a Postgres-compatible, lakehouse-integrated system designed specifically for AI-native and analytical workloads, Databricks is giving customers a unified, developer-friendly stack that reduces complexity and accelerates innovation.”
Partner Ecosystem
A robust partner network, including Accenture, Airbyte, Alation, Fivetran, and many others, supports Lakebase customers in data integration, business intelligence, and governance.

My tracking collar! This was a late Christmas present from my mate I received a few weeks ago.
I'm ecstatic to finally have my own tracking collar, I have envisioned myself in one pretty much since I discovered my coyote type some number of years ago. Most of the art I draw depicting my coyote-self features me wearing a tracking collar. To have it finally be a real item that I can see and feel the weight of around my neck is very euphoric. rrrf!

Charles Milton Porter: Continuing input of audio data into the The Thinker's database. Subject: Pearl Porter.
Pearl Porter: I want to tell the recorder how we met, Milton.
Charles: Okay, sure.
Pearl: I was working in my family's diner. School was starting for the fall, and one morning in walks this college boy, clean cut… first thing I noticed was his eyes. He sat down and ordered bacon, eggs and coffee. He was shy, but we talked a little off and on. He came in every single morning for breakfast and ordered the same thing. I told my mama, that boy must really love your cooking! She said, he isn't coming in for the food, honey, he's coming in for you. A year later, we were married.

It's annoying that MDL has now two pages for cut and uncut version of a drama.
It does kinda make sense but is also unnecessary. It messes my lists up 🙈 especially when they make the second page when a drama is over and all the pics and comments, voting etc are on the cut version page already.

Important! Your pet's RFID chip number might have been disconnected this week.
Is your pet chipped? They should be. Do you know who made the chip?
Pet RFID chips are so small that there's really only room on them for a serial number. When your lost pet is brought to a shelter or a vet's office, they can scan the chip, read that number, and then type it into a program that draws from a series of linked databases to find your name and phone number. That's how they find you, and tell you that Silly Lilly von Wigglesbottom has gone wandering, and she's safe and sound, and would you come get her, please?
Texas-based Save This Life, which provided chips to vets and shelters all across the US, has all at once and abruptly gone dark; their database is just gone. Their customers were not given warning and so did not know to change their registration to another company. A lot of animals have basically become anonymous now.
If you don't know what company you've been using, call your vet's office and ask what pet chip number they have on file. If the chip number starts with 991 or 900164, it's probably a Save This Life chip.
If it turns out yours is one of the affected cases, the chip itself will still be fine! There's no need to add another, or anything like that. You'll just need to transfer the number to another company, and your vet should be able to recommend the one that they like the best.

Trump got absolutely dumpstered in court in the last few days.
His and Elon's program to pay people to retire early has been halted by a temporary restraining order issued by District Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. of the US District Court, District of Massachusetts in American Federation of Government Employees et al v. Charles Ezell (acting Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management). This temporary order only lasts until they have a hearing on Monday to determine whether this program is constitutional.
13 state attorneys general sued to prevent Elon from accessing personal data about government employees and citizen clients of their agencies, leading to Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in the case Alliance for Retired Americans v. Scott Bessent (Trump's Secretary of the Treasury) ordering the Department of Justice to ensure no unauthorized persons, including Elon and his team, have access to the Labor Department's database of information on tax filings, employment, and the like.
Two separate judges have ruled that Trump's executive order trying to eliminate birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge John Coughenour of the western Washington district, a REAGAN appointee (!), said, "It has become ever more apparent that to our president the rule of law is but an impediment to his policy goals. The rule of law is, according to him, something to navigate around or simply ignore, whether that be for political or personal gain." The other judge, US District Judge Deborah Boardman of Maryland, ruled that the executive order cannot be implemented until she has had a chance to rule on the merits of the case.
US District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth in DC paused Trump’s restrictions on transgender women being incarcerated in women’s prisons and federal prisons providing gender-affirming medical treatment, after inmates (!) sued to block the policy.
US District Judge Loren L. Alikhan of DC broadly blocked the Trump administration’s memo halting almost all federal assistance.
That's six rulings scrapping five of Trump's major policy operations in the past four days (Feb 3rd through the 6th, 2025).
That's news worth celebrating!

If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.
Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!
Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.
Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.
Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’
Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.
List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.
Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.
I'll be adding more to this list, if anyone else wants to add anything feel free!

I am building so many hcs for Moon in my mind I love her so much enough so to think abt ancient politics girlie better consider herself lucky (I say, as if fictional politics becoming to long dead societies isn't my favorite shit to explore)
#rat rambles#rain posting#anyways I like the idea that moon was first built during a time when the original nation that lived in the area had been split into two#she was built near one of the borders in a location that many of the organizations that had been carrying out iterator constructions at the#time had been eyeing for a while but avoiding because of the high tensions between the two nations and how itd be hard to not use resources#from across the border from either side to keep her operational#eventually though one of them was given the thumbs up and started construction leading to a lot of conflict#for a long time it was mostly just diplomatic arguments through messages and meetings but eventually as moon neared completion the topic#of which nation she should be considered to belong to became a major point of contension and there was a minor war over it#eventually the nation that had initially backed her construction gave up due to some natural distaters#so by the time moon was activated she was considered an iterator of the other nation and as such she had quite a bit of adapting to do as#while she had both of the primary languages of the nations in her database pretty much all of her database and internal functions were#written by and with the laguage of the initial nation that backed her construction#eventually this stopped mattering as the two nations ended up merging and the newly founded government remerged the two languages#I say remerged as they were initially different branches of the primary laguage of the initial nation that had falled apart#although moon found it nice to be able to use many of the words she wasnt allowed to use before it was annoying to have to once again#adjust to speaking a different language primarily#although she definitely did find it funny watching the others struggle to use the new language organically as she had a head start in#understanding how a lot of the 'new' stuff was actually used in practical conversation as opposed to straight translation#many iterators that were around during the two nation era will still usually exclusively think in their local language and occasionally#speak in it fully in more casual settings if they get that luxury#now ofc language evolves over time so all iterators have had to adjust how they speak but generally speaking they still are most#comfortable with their original language as its what they were built to speak

It's Time To Investigate SevenArt.ai
sevenart.ai is a website that uses ai to generate images.
Except, that's not all it can do.
It can also overlay ai filters onto images to create the illusion that the algorithm created these images.
And its primary image source is Tumblr.
It scrapes through the site for recent images that are at least 10 days old and has some notes attached to it, as well as copying the tags to make the unsuspecting user think that the post was from a genuine user.
No image is safe. Art, photography, screenshots, you name it.
Initially I thought that these are bots that just repost images from their site as well as bastardizations of pictures across tumblr, until a user by the name of @nataliedecorsair discovered that these "bots" can also block users and restrict replies.
Not only that, but these bots do not procreate and multiply like most bots do. Or at least, they have.
The following are the list of bots that have been found on this very site. Brace yourself. It's gonna be a long one:

The oldest ones have been created in March, started scraping in June/July, and later additions to the family have been created in July.
So, I have come to the conclusion that these accounts might be run by a combination of bot and human. Cyborg, if you will.
But it still doesn't answer my main question:
Who is running the whole operation?
The site itself gave us zero answers to work with.
Tumblr media
No copyright, no link to the engine where the site is being used on, except for the sign in thingy (which I did.)
Tumblr media
I gave the site a fake email and a shitty password.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turns out it doesn't function like most sites that ask for an email and password.
Didn't check the burner email, the password isn't fully dotted and available for the whole world to see, and, and this is the important thing...
My browser didn't detect that this was an email and password thingy.
Tumblr media
And there was no log off feature.
This could mean two things.
Either we have a site that doesn't have a functioning email and password database, or that we have a bunch of gullible people throwing their email and password in for people to potentially steal.
I can't confirm or deny these facts, because, again, the site has little to work with.
The code? Generic as all hell.
Tumblr media
Tried searching for more information about this site, like the server it's on, or who owned the site, or something. ANYTHING.
Multiple sites pulled me in different directions. One site said it originates in Iceland. Others say its in California or Canada.
Luckily, the server it used was the same. Its powered by Cloudflare.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with any of this information.
If you have any further information about this site, let me know.
Until there is a clear answer, we need to keep doing what we are doing.
Spread the word and report about these cretins.
If they want attention, then they are gonna get the worst attention.
