I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

Not to be self congratulatory but a classmate was doing a study for one of his game design classes and asked if I’d be one of his participants. I like him so I said yes and he had me do a questionnaire and then set me up in front of Street Fighter.

He had me with set parameters and told me to just fight it out so I did. I watched his eyebrows go up when I finished but he couldn’t comment until the end.

He asked if I played Street Fighter regularly and I said no. I told him I played stuff like Bloody Roar, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat and Smash Bros growing up socially, but it’s never been my genre.

He asked if I would be more interested to play Street Fighter after this test and I said no.

He started quietly laughing when I finished all the questions and I said, “What? Did I do poorly?”

“No. You finished the fastest out of anyone I’ve tested. You’re also the oldest and have the least interest in this genre of game, it’s just really funny.”

I told him my best friend growing up had consoles but I didn’t. He got to play and practice regularly so he tended to be better than me as a baseline. But. If I won he’d get so furious that he’d turn the console off and we could do what I wanted instead, so I developed an aggressive button mashing technique that has served me well.

Eddie rounds the corner with his drink and stumbles over the threshold when he sees Steve. Steve is wearing the most obscene white shirt- it's just a shirt a mere mortal might say, but Eddie knows better. It's a tight shirt, so tight that even not hard, the nubs of his nipples are pressed against it. So tight, the hair on his chest that runs down to his belly button and runs from that down- Eddie about chokes on his tongue thinking about where it goes- is faintly visible. So tight it looks like his biceps are bulging and so white he looks like a tanned golden God.

Except it wasn't a metaphorical trip. It was a literal trip. Eddie is literally falling as his eyes bless him with the most beautiful image he's going to think about in bed and the shower and- and he's still falling.

But Steve thinks fast and catches him, mostly with his own body. Except Eddie's water spills all over Steve and somehow ends up in Eddie's hair and its just a mess.

And Eddie is going to apologize, already is stammering out apology after apology, when he steps back after he gains footing and promptly goes mute.

Cause that once obscene white shirt is obscener- that may not be a word but Eddie is writing it in the dictionary with the caption "Steve wet t-shirt contest". Because Steve's shirt is now see-through. And because of the cold air and the water, Steve's nipples have started to harden. And his belly button is now visible and Eddie didn't even realize he had a thing for belly buttons but he does for Steve's. Every glorious inch of chest and stomach is visible to Eddie's wandering eyes, God his wants to kiss and bite it.

And Steve is just smirking at him and he should say something damnit anything but all he does is make a noise which Steve will later mimic and laugh about. But for now Steve is smirking and basically shirtless and looking so hot and-

Once the idea of Damian becoming a doctor was planted in my head I CANNOT let go of it like it’s all I’ve been thinking about.

All I can see is Damian all grown up into his 6 foot something height standing there in a white coat awkwardly while being fussed over by the mother of one of his patients☹️. Paediatrics would be such an amazing branch for him too like (just like his father) he’s trying to make sure no child has to grow up the way he did and he’s so sweet and gentle with the kids, constantly looking for any signs of abuse or unhappiness.

He has a whole drawer of candy with vegan, sugar free, halal and all kinds of options. Kids, parents, coworkers, the media, the nurses, legitimately EVERYONE absolutely adores him and he deserves that and so much more. We’ve got enough vigilantes in Gotham and the world let ONE of them be happy just ONCE don’t you think he’s suffered enough? Plus he’s already preconditioned to withstand and excel under the gruelling working environment of medicine. After being a literal assassin and vigilante his entire life, working triple shifts at the hospital would be a walk in the park.

I really hope dc goes with that route cause there’s something so satisfying about a child that’s been trained his whole life to hurt and kill choosing to help people instead. I KNOW Leslie Thompkins is somewhere in her clinic with a big ass smile about to give Bruce so much shit about there finally being a university graduate in the family (she has to be double annoying about it to make up for Alfred being unable to cause I know he would be so happy that Damian is going into that direction. Karma for Bruce dropping out of med school).
