I think if there was a contest for "Mister Contradiction" this guy would win it without any effort. In a few lines he managed to say that love requires accepting someone for who they are but that finding someone attractive for their personality is selfish. Like, WHAT? If I like someone for their personality it means I'm accepting them for who they are, right?
Furthermore, believing that love means loving without getting anything in return is not only inaccurate but also dangerous, and I will now explain why.
A healthy relationship requires reciprocity and mutual respect. If any of these things are missing, it's not love. It's not healthy to believe that one of the two has to do all the emotional labor and expect not to receive the same from their partner. It's also a dangerous concept because its basically saying that all those people who have left their partner because they were emotionally or physically abusive or both are selfish. According to the logic of loving without receiving anything in return, even if your partner beats you up or brings you down emotionally, you cannot leave them because otherwise you are selfish.
I'm not saying that the guy who wrote this idiotic post meant it that way, but unfortunately that's the subtext.
Plus, if we’re being honest, the concept of loving someone and getting nothing in return IS selfish, because you’re literally saying that one partner can take without giving anything back to the other partner. Taking without giving back is selfish, while wanting to be loved and respected equally is not. It’s just how healthy relationships work. Relationships are not a charity. Obviously I’m talking about emotional exchange, not financial.
Besides, it's literally the norm to start a relationship with someone you feel comfortable with. It's not selfish, it's just how human relationships work. Why would I want to start a relationship, romantic or platonic, with someone I don't feel comfortable with? Like, WHAT?
That's like saying a black woman who doesn't want to start a relationship with a white supremacist, Trump-supporting white man is selfish. Like WHAT?
Tumblr media
Oh and by the way starting a relationship with someone solely and exclusively for their money is not love but exploitation. It should go without saying, but here we are. 🙄
Romantic relationships are born out of a desire to both love and be loved, and there is nothing selfish about that. However, saying that people should love without receiving anything in return in emotional terms is extremely selfish. This guy doesn't realize that he is supporting the exact type of dynamic he claims to detest.
Also, having standards is normal. I think it's quite normal to want a partner who is emotionally available, mature, smart, etc. Physical appearance is secondary. I don't know about you, but for me a man can be as handsome as a Greek god, but if his personality sucks the only thing I'll feel for him is repulsion. Of course, nobody is perfect, but there's a difference between having flaws and being a shitty person.
This also applies to friendships. Friendships are a give and take just like romantic relationships. You can’t expect your friend to do all the emotional labor without getting the same in return.
Unconditional love, as noble a concept as it may be, cannot exist since human relationships will always be conditional to some degree and that's okay. We are humans, not gods. We are not perfect. Perfection doesn't exist and that's also okay.
Besides, what does having aesthetic preferences have to do with being disabled, disfigured, etc.? As I said before, if you truly love someone, physical appearance is secondary. I feel like this guy was unconsciously projecting his true self onto others with his post. I mean, you only have to read his post carefully to realize that it's full of contradictions. Also, if you go look at his comment history on his Reddit profile, he called another guy "gross" because he wrote a beautiful post about how much he loves his wife, so I honestly think he is an extremely frustrated person who feels the need to take his frustration out on others. He is one of those people who probably believes that if he can't be serene and happy then neither can anyone else. This guy needs to do some soul-searching and most importantly learn to act like a decent person.
Before criticizing others, this guy should look in the mirror.
Sorry for the long rant, but I needed to get this off my chest.
Thank you for reading and have a nice day. 🩷

you know how there is the shit trend "embrace masculinity, reject modernity" edits and "sigma rizz strong men phonk" edits?
it would be cool if there would be some new but with women and the so hated "modernity" giving back attack.
im always trying to find some but all I find is rhea Ripley or that lady that has muscles and behind is the song cherry cherry lady
fuck stereotypes, gender roles, patriarchy and traditionalism. fr.
I see a lot of ladies in my surroundings who feel ashamed of being women (some of those with whom I talk even told me that they feel like if femininity was something less or that it's stereotyped and men look down on them. which is disgusting there are still people* who think power is in dick and being woman is shame)
and on other hand I see a lot of men who feel ashamed to be seen as "feminine". Man, you have dick, you're cis. the fact you will cut your eyelashes and won't shower for 5 days won't make you more masculine. you make everything way worse by your behaviour. you think femininity is wrong or what the hell?
social media and society literally destroy younger generations with their so-called "ideals" and "trends that must be right and true".
Not like it wasn't happening before though. Media, TV, brands and marketing selling beauty to those who are totally okay and don't need some surgeries and shit to "fit" in society.
*also I don't mean "man loneliness epidemic".
that's their own fault that they behave as shit.
if you are a good person, you will find your other half no matter what but you can't expect them to crawl to your legs just because you say "I'm a good man!"
good existences haven't got extinct. they just don't want to fall into some trap. they want personal space and they will try to avoid people who seem like a threat to them (mostly)

I often feel like my asexuality my personal failure. I've been a perfectionist my whole life and twisted myself into shapes I never thought possible to achieve everything I had to. Sometimes it feels like a conventional relationship is just another thing I need to put my mind to. Without it, there will always be something 'not quite right' about me.

one of my writing themes is that every government has something wrong with it, even if it's trying its best to make everything perfect--
especially if it's trying its best to make everything perfect.

The way Orv will dangle the basic premise in front of you like a set of keys and have you going "Ha! So Joonghyuk is the novel's protagonist but Dokja is OUR main character." and you're so busy enjoying that layer of meta text that you don't notice their other hand winding up the Han Sooyoung hammer to whack you with.

hii i'm so fascinated with the anthro dog worldbuilding and had a question about it !!! if domesticated canines exist in the world, do undomesticated canines (wolves, foxes, coyotes, maned wolves, etc) also exist? if so, what role do they play in society? ^_^
Domestic dogs are the only anthropomorphic species, they exist in place of humans.
Wild canines exist, but they're just regular wolves, foxes, coyotes and so on. Anthro dogs view them the same way humans view apes and other primates. They recognize that wolves are superficially similar to them in some uncanny ways, but have no gualms about hunting them. To a dog living in the pre-Darwin era, a wolf isn't a distant relative, it's a wild beast that will eat their livestock.
Actual pet dogs are entirely absent.
Other domesticated animals exist as normal. Anthro dogs keep cats as pets, raise chickens and ride horses.

Okay so the thing about the OT3 that gets me is that it just Is. It's the three of them choosing each other over and over again
It's Hardison and Parker falling in love, holding on and letting each other go when they need to, growing up together and becoming who they want to be. It's supporting each other when they reach their breaking points, reminding each other to breathe, that they'll be there on the other side, every time.
It's Eliot and Parker understanding each other. It's Parker asking Eliot what he did and Eliot holding his heart out to her and asking her not to ask again because it would break him if he told her. Told them. It's Eliot reminding Parker that being "good" isn't always the best play, that sometimes you need to show your teeth and be ruthless to get everyone home safe.
It's Hardison and Eliot snarking and sniping at each other, both as banter and when something goes wrong. Because, in Eliot's past, when something goes wrong — people get killed. He is an ass and he's hard and he's often mean to Hardison, but it's not without cause and they both know that. They know what's at stake. It's Hardison teasing Eliot, but giving him a space where he can talk (or not talk) and express himself when he needs too.
It's the three of them choosing each other time and again.
For Parker and Hardison it's romantic, yes, but it also goes deeper than that. For Eliot, for all three of them, it's trust. It's having each other's back. It's knowing implicitly that the people beside you would walk through hell and back with you if they had to.
It's being known. It's home.
