Prisoner of Conscience finds freedom in Buddha’s teachings
From childhood, Ma Thida dreamed of helping others―caring for the sick, sharing information despite censorship, and standing up for people’s rights. To stand against the oppression that had been stifling Myanmar’s progress for decades, she joined Aung San Suu Kyi and the many other activists in the National League for Democracy, campaigning steadfastly despite intimidation, harassment, and worse. Because of her efforts, the regime sent her to Insein Prison, where she faced serious illness and bleak conditions. She

She first found relief from her situation in the form of smuggled books, which she could only read secretly under a blanket. “So the whole night I was just sitting in a squatting position and reading,” she recalls. “It gave me so much strength, because my hunger is not just for having food to survive, but also for intellectual understanding. Without that I don’t think I can survive. That’s why the books are really like a tonic to me.”

He's not so much angry as weary. It had hurt when Sakazuki had come into his cell to gloat and grind his boot into Zoro's face, sure. But Mihawk's approach is more like the point of his fine Cuban heels kicking him directly in the balls. A calculated, precision 'fuck you'. —Ch. 19, Tiger by the Tail by Vandereer (@dandunn)

Dark Shadows episode 85, aired October 21 1966
#screencaps that make me froth at the mouth a little. tbh.#IT'S A GOOD SHOW. HAROLD.#it's an episode about grief! about regrets! the temporarily curative powers of enough cheap whiskey to drown a clydesdale! & -#above all! the stranglehold of the past and the power of it to hold us all prisoners. <3#liz looming behind carolyn like the portrait of isaac [benjamin?] is looming behind her;#in the next scene: burke looming behind sam: not a linear descent; like the collinses; but a clear threat of sam's guilty conscience.#the old paintings of long-sunk ships and empty chairs at the bar. the empty chair at the table that sam and burke gesture to as bill's -#or bill's ghost's.#the shadow behind sam like a third party after he and burke start reminiscing about bill & drunkenly singing 'Drunken Sailor'.#liz in her light housedress disappearing behind the dark front doors. carolyn's light raincoat over her dark party dress.#carolyn in front of the buoy; burke holding the glass up and literally blocking her from view.#liz looking away from the outside and vicki shaking the bars on her window.#vicki and the weird light at the beginning of the episode; vicki staring down bill's ghost at the end of it.#dark shadows#episode 85 my good friend episode 85 have you seen her? now you have.

this is part of a comic that I haven't finished yet because the last bit of it kept not looking right. but I like this bit enough to post it without context
featuring bianca with glasses and also problems now
#psii.txt#my art#my ocs#among us ocs#Bianca#Szarka#this is after bia has gotten fired and spent several months working as a prison guard and then gotten unfired#during that time she learned what permadeath is#and grew a bit too much conscience#they've still got those sadistic tendencies. but now they feel bad about it#also why the glasses is because she got her eyes replaced with normal eyes. so no more uncanny white irises and no more perfect vision

By John Parker
After the U.S. killed the U.N. Security Council resolution for a ceasefire on Dec. 8 — and today delayed another vote of the Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire — Washington continues to pour gas on the fires in Gaza.
“It’s just awful,” said one of the U.S. embassy representatives in Cairo, Egypt, about the killing going on in Gaza. With a bowed head with apparent frustration at their supposed inability to stop the killing in Gaza, the embassy representatives told our U.S. delegation of World Conscience Convoy participants nothing of value.

I‘m feeling strangely anxious, and not about maths. Rather my general anxiousness is increased by my lack of fear regarding the final maths exam. It feels so pointless and unreal. I just know already that I will not feel proud of my achievement if I pass. Then what‘s the point of succeeding, of doing anything really… I feel anxious because I am fickle and arrogant and my heart feels hollowed out. My imagination is so bright and fantastic that the world looks pale and bland, always. I want to be a reclusive wizard living in a wonky cramped castle with a magical garden and only mingle with people when they come knock at my door and ask me for help nicely (Then I would even offer my assistance for free). If that‘s not possible maybe I just kill myself
#I don‘t want to live as a human. I reject this shitty loud and polluted society. And I fucking hate the laws of nature.#Why do I need to have consciousness if I then can only watch the world like from a prison cell#So is conscience created organically? well the only way to find out is to die basically. but the likely answer is: yes#which I guess is fortunate. imagine being bodyless voiceless conscience. horror trip#being a ghost would be cool though. especially a poltergeist who can move stuff. I could disable SUV w/o facing legal consequences. rad af.#gnaw gnaw and then adios disappear through the next wall.#sometimes I could share my not so wise advice with lone wanderers#I could be alone in museums and libraries and on cemeteries in castles monasteries and dark forest paths. blueish glow and so much silence

“Time and time again, history shows us that caveat-laden arguments about what is or isn’t a concentration camp only occur in countries with sound political systems. When people are splitting hairs over the specific methodology and intent behind mass detention and human rights abuses, that’s when you know you’re looking at a vibrant, civilized society. It’s as true today as it was a hundred years ago. Civilizations are healthier when citizens are raising trivial objections to the use of the term ‘concentration camp’ on the grounds that their neighbor’s rendition to an oversight-free mass prison still technically exists within a legal framework, at least on paper.” Boyd went on to state that blindly insisting that anyone who wound up in a concentration camp must have done something wrong to get there has historically always been a sign of a healthy conscience.

(Okay, I am scheduling this for when the video is out, so by now everyone should have access to it)
About Caramel:
Every time they try to shout my real name just to get a rise from me Acting like I'm never stressed out by the hearsay I guess that's what I get for trying to hide in the limelight Guess that's what I get for having twenty-twenty hindsight Everybody wants eyes on 'em, I just wanna hear you sing that top line And if you don't think I mean it, then I understand But I'm still glad you came, so let me see those hands
I don't ever want to hear anyone say anything again about how "it's not that serious" everytime someone goes out of their way to invade their privacy and put their whole identity on display in Sleep Token spaces.
About how people who go to the shows and sing and dance and have fun "are ruining it for everyone", because they want to just stand there and listen (why would you go then ????).
I don't care if we're being called over-protective for making sure new fans know not to spread their names and faces. "But he never said it explicitly-" IS THIS CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU?
For everyone who's ever shouted their names on rituals, who brought merch and banners from their side projects, for everyone who thinks they're above "the gimmick", who said their identities are not that big of a deal (especially Vessel). Who insists on bringing up their names on ST exclusive spaces. Who insists on harassing the people around them, who have spread rumours about who or what could the songs be about. Who follow them around in the hopes of being noticed, and make it uncomfortable for everyone involved.
I hope they sleep with a guilty conscience and take a good look at themselves.
This guy has given so much out of himself to us, and all he asked in return was to respect him as a human being. Genuinely I don't think how much more direct he could get with it. And there's STILL people deliberately missing the point.
I try not to talk about how it's harder now
(...)
The sweetest dreams are bitter, but there's no one left to tell
(...)
Too young to get bitter over it all Too old to retaliate like before Too blessed to be caught ungrateful, I know So I'll keep dancing along to the rhythm This stage is a prison, a beautiful nightmare A war of attrition, I'll take what I'm given The deepest incisions, I thought I got better But maybe I didn't
For someone who has lived and breathed music all his live, who *we know* dreamed of being where he is now, who has gone through so much and still came out the other side - that sure is a fucked up mentality to have. Imagine having your life dream turned over on you in such a cruel way.
And the fact that despite it all, he still chooses to dance along WITH us? For us? To endure all that pressure and stress, the injustice and bitterness so many of us listeners have brought him, for the ones who know better and understand? The fact that he still invites us to stick with hin through it all?? MY GOODNESS.
I'm so sorry this is how he's been feeling about it all, and I'm SO devastated to know a significant chunk of it has been caused by us - the very same people he sings for.
(and of course this is extended to the rest of the band, but this is very much HIM talking to us. Not as Vessel.)
Sometimes we forget that as much as this is music and a hobby and something that is part of our day, this is his job. This is his life.
If this doesn't make some people behave, then I genuinely don't know what will. I'm genuinely scared to see what else is coming. I just hope going forward we can shift this narrative together and do better. Remember,
Nothing lasts forever.
#if this is reading super clunky - i'm writing this late at night and. idk. it's hard to articulate it all#i have no tags to add. just. yeah. fuck man this is even worse than i thought#sleep token#even in arcadia#caramel
