12 Y.O. Samsung tablet and notes on a train.

Physiology notes on #OneNote
Had to change the android version to a pirate one and it's running easily everything except adobe pdf reader (SHAME ON YOU! AGAIN AND AGAIN!). Proving programed obsolescence is a THING, even the battery life improved.
This tablet is completely okay and was given to me because apps wasn't running on it. My pirate android proved that the tablet is still good. Big tech corporations are the ones that blocks the user from accessing technology without constantly spending money and resources on it.
God, I HATE capitalism...

My electronic device is slowing down and my power consumption is increasing
No, your devices (phone, tablet, computer) are not less efficient. They just have more work to do and as a result are slower and consume more power.
They donât provide you with any more services. Twenty years ago, you could already watch videos, make calls, look at classified ads and consult the press online. Thereâs nothing new under the sun!
And yet they are slower and consume more power. (Consumer portable power consumption trends â Research Gate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Yahia-Benmoussa/publication/279770603/figure/fig1/AS:669977531129856@1536746499004/SoC-consumer-portable-power-consumption-trends-1.png)
The Internet is a client (your device) and server (the providerâs data centre) technology. Content (images, sound, text) is hosted on the server. The web page can be built either server-side or client-side. This operation requires computing power powered by electricity. Since the invention of the Internet, most web pages have been produced by the server. However, with the sharp rise in electricity costs, providers (Facebook, e-commerce, etc.) have modified their sites so that this work is carried out by the client (your device). They are no longer the ones paying for the electricity, but the consumers. The devices are slower because they have to produce the calculations for the web page. They consume more electricity.
Suppliers like Facebook boast that they have reduced their carbon footprint by 85% and advertise themselves as virtuous and committed to sustainable computing. But all they have done is shift electricity consumption into the home.
As a result, consumers are being forced to buy more powerful devices to carry out their calculations, and will end up with higher electricity bills.
As far as the environment is concerned, there is a lot of polluting electronic waste. The construction of new devices is also polluting. Home appliances are a hundred times less efficient at using electricity for the same task than data centres (collections of servers). And itâs electricity whose origin we canât control, especially in developing countries.
To increase the profits of the suppliers, users get a slower service, which consumes more electricity and therefore needs bigger batteries and the obligation to buy new equipment to make it usable. Itâs a total regression.

need to shell out for a new laptop before the end of the year - for a lot of reasons but mainly bc support ending for win8.1 makes fixing the current beast rather pointless :/ (and. admittedly. there is a lot to fix. she's old and she has suffered.)
but my current beastie is from the last gen of laptops with a disc drive and the thought of using an external/usb disc drive is enough to make me cry tears of blood
#really though it is time to upgrade#and i hate to say it because she /runs/ fine it's all hardware issues w parts that can absolutely be replaced#but if i can't use it to run the programs i need then shelling out the money for those parts would ultimately be a waste#but also the fact that this machine that runs fine is no longer worth fixing bc some google-based bullshit just won't support win8.1 anymor#is ALSO a fucking waste & a pile of planned obsolescence bullshit! and i hate it!#but uh. even though she runs fine and she totally does. she does need. uh.#new keyboard (only 1/3 of keys work; currently use usb keyboard)#new trackpad ribbon cable (trackpad does not currently work; using external usb mouse)#new power button and connecting ribbon cable (turning it on involves opening it up and causing an intentional short-circuit every time.)#(a problem largely solved by simply never turning her completely off- except she also needs)#a new battery (current battery does not charge at all; machine needs to be constantly plugged in or it shuts down immediately)#...ok i might be the 'this is fine' dog about this#but i am still upset! that i will no longer have a disc drive inside my damn laptop.#that's the disc drive's natural habitat; that's where it should be; it's weird and offputting to have it connected via usb!#ack. why do tech companies fuck everything up.#and that's without getting into the way new devices offer less harddrive space so people will use the fucking cloud or whatever???#yeah sorry no i'm not using your goddamn data mining corporate off-site storage i want to keep my shit on my own goddamn machine#go to actual hell if you're trying to sell me a pc with less than at least 500GB of storage i swear to fuck#...in essence you could say the whole process is leaving me rather grumpy

sat through a leadership meeting today about how future members of my student art collective will get to "earn microcredentials" embedded with "digital artifacts" aka their Portfolios which will provide job recruitment ai with a "deep resume of the self" and didnt even throw up.
#but now im feeling notso good.#All this instead of scholarship money btw.#Because of ai: the job market is flooded with meaningless credentials. So we: use ai#to verify peoples credentials which now have to be earned by completing a gauntlet of creative tasks..#At the university but not for credit.#And so basically the creative process for undergrad students has just become a series of meaningless hoops to jump through in order to#check a box on a job application that says Yes I am qualified to send emails from your company's servers#h#sorry yeah lets found a student art collective that sounds grand. What do student artists need? a way to make employers value their art.#Grand. so lets just make sure that artists always feel the looming specter of obsolescence & are constantly aware that their freedom to eve#practice art is contingent on the invisible arm of the market which is itself contingent on No human will or meaning whatsoever.#why would we lend credence even for a minute to the idea that meeting the empty arbitrary criteria for âvalued workerâ is worth anything#& furthermore why would we dedicate our entire program towards funnelling people into the Checking That Box pipeline.#I think we should all fall on our swords ngl.

why does every tech company, soft or hard, nowadays insists on blackboxing their users?
i know why, it's a rhetorical question.
but i know my phone has the function, the os on it allows for it's use. but i also have to do research for hours on practically unusable even with plugins search engins to find out which exact third-party app to install and which buttons to click to access my PHONE'S BASIC OUT-OF-THE-BOX functionality??
tech literacy is truly and well dead, killed by everyone, from no-name chinese app developers, to big names like apple and google.
i want my privacy options in plain view. i also want basic bare-bone tech functionality in plain view.
#and i tell people the bare minimum they have to do to make their tech usable and experiences pleasant#and they act like i am some type of a MASTER HACKER#i am sorry i grew up in the era where your experience was designed by YOU and not someone who decided that YOU ARE DUMB#and you don't have to know this shit and you'll never even be able to use it any way without jumping through so many hoops#in other news i even had to jump through hoops to install firefox on my gf's pc because she has an older machine with win7#and refuses to upgrade. but. apparently tech obsolescence works even for the Customizable Privacy Forward stuff#on the plus side - i did that and there's one more firefox user#who thinks i am some goddamn genius hacker for just installing an older version of the browser not supported on the website anymore???#when did installing a widely-available program and plug-ins for it become a Hacker activity?

Also please remember that Linux is NOT ACTUALLY A SOLUTION for most individuals. The amount of programming knowledge it requires is prohibitive. For many folks the refusal to switch to Linux isn't a case of laziness, it is an issue of *accessibility.*
I talked about the problem of Windows system requirements being too damn high before, and how the windows 10 to 11 jump is especially bad. Like the end of Windows 10 is coming october 2025, and it will be a massive problem. And this article gives us some concrete numbers for how many computers that can't update from win10 to 11.
And it's 240 million. damn. âIf these were all folded laptops, stacked one on top of another, they would make a pile 600 km taller than the moon.â the tech analysis company quoted in the article explains.
So many functioning computers that will be wasted. And it's all because people don't wanna switch to a Linux distro with sane system requirements and instead buy a new computer.
Like if you own one of these 240 million windows 10 computers, Just be an environmentally responsible non-wasteful person and switch that computer to Linux instead of just scrapping it because Microsoft says it's not good enough.
#you have no idea how many times i have tried to make the switch#only to discover that the level of user friction is 100x worse#and as a person with learning disabilities that are social as well as intellectual#overcoming that friction was so difficult#that i basically could not use my computer#the user forums were hostile#the instructions were hard to read#and i hated how easy it was to end up 6 hours deep in a âsimple fixâ to make a program work at a basic level of functionality#that had a windows equivalent that just worked out of the box#until linux becomes AS EASY or EASIER than Windows for an off the street user#to access with little to no education#it is not a solution to Microsoft's planned obsolescence bullshit

planned obsolescence is definitely a thing but you should still learn basic ways to fix/take care of electronics, like swapping out batteries or doing a factory reset. I recently sold the roomba I got from my grandma (she didn't understand it and kept it in a box) like twelve years ago - it still works because I looked up how to swap out the battery when it started to fail after six years. I spent the last few weeks wondering if I needed a new smart watch because the one I won in a student fair raffle eight years ago was getting kind of glitchy - tried a factory reset and it works perfectly. I have a nine year old laptop that is still chugging along like it always has - every few years I purge all the files and programs I'm not using regularly and I think that helps. When the little pump in our cat water fountain stopped working I figured out how to take it apart and clean it and then it worked again. The other day I found the voice recorder I used for my college journalism work - it was still in great shape despite being in a cupboard for a decade because I took the AAA batteries out before I stored it, so nothing corroded and I can listen to my awkward college interviews if I want to.
the electronic devices in your life want to work, they want to be good at their jobs, you just have to give them a little help by letting them take a nap (shutdown) from time to time and cleaning them and not bricking their batteries.
#this post is mostly aimed at the people in my old lab who always complained about how shitty the printer was#despite the fact that 90% of the printers issues were from being on 24/7#and could be solved by turning it off and on again#you just need to approach printers like they're a traumatized horse#<- neurotypical thing to say#my nonsense#I mostly fix things instead of buying new bc I don't like the change that comes with new I think

Heâs born tall and broad, created to labor ever deeper into the earth until the day his body gives out. Synths are easier replaced than repaired.
Heâs strong, but also sharp and driven, with a single-minded faith in his creators that makes them take notice. Heâs a rare find. Maybe instead of hauling debris, they can train him to kill.
When Zimmer tells him heâs been assigned to the courser program, he doesnât really know what it means. All he knows is that heâs special, and useful. Being valuable means security â and already, the twin fears of erasure and obsolescence bake themselves into the back of his mind. He is three days old.
-
Theyâre pleased with his diligence, but not with his well-meaning questions. Every fiber within him knows that the Institute is right; all thatâs left is to find out why. Instead, they teach him to recalibrate a laser rifle.
He loves his laser rifle.
He fires. Changes stance. Fires. The target shudders with every impact.
âInsufficient. Again.â
The corpse-gray face of his observer doesnât change. Hasnât changed for two hours. M7-97 is told that synths donât have feelings the way humans do. All they can experience is a pale imitation, like seeing the world in two dimensions. He believes this. But at the same time, he knows what he thinks of early-gen synths, and the only word for it is hatred.
He runs the drill again. Its yellow eyes bore into him. When they next meet his, they pronounce their stony judgment.
âInsufficient. Again.â
For the first time, it occurs to M7-97 that the weapon in his hands would be handy for disabling Gen-2 synths, if someone happened to give him the order.
He makes another attempt, wholly focused. There is nothing else. This task is his entire life. He is seventeen days old.
He waits. The thing speaks. âSufficient.â It stares unblinking. âAgain.â
-
The Institute is the future. The Instituteâs actions are always justified. M7-97 can explain it flawlessly, and this is unacceptable. A courser does not justify himself. A courser spares no thought for why.
When they take him to Retention & Reclamation, he assumes itâs for training. He feels no sense of injustice in this place, only the tense solemnity of a necessary evil. (If he had to feel anything at all, the Institute would have preferred smug amusement. They didnât tell him that.)
A woman in a black lab coat instructs him to remove his jumpsuit. This is not training.
His stomach turns. They called him a prime candidate. They said he showed promise. âWhat did I do wrong?â
âMost quirks in central processing can be resolved with regular maintenance. However, Dr. Zimmer has declared you unsalvageable.â
âI donât understand.â
âYou donât need to.â
Begging is aberrant, but he has nothing to lose. âPlease. I will do better.â
She glances at the clock, annoyed. âRemove your jumpsuit, M7-97.â
As they prepare him for reconditioning, he doesn't register the fear. Just suffocating failure and aimless guilt. Heâs spent his short life learning the language of violence, but in the hands of his creators he is meek and silent. He is fifty-four days old.

Also i am obsessed with your fucked up son. Kay i ask why hero is Like That. Was it a programming error? He was meant to be the "friend", right, but even before the fall he was weirdly violent.
I just want to know more about him. Whats going on in his fucked up little head
Iâm obsessed with him too. I love him and i cry so much about him hereâs why:
Since Hero was the first, he has quite a few errors in his design, both in his hardware (body) and software (brain and tablet of information).
He does not have any internal concept of empathy and doesnât fully understand the concept that other creatures think and live. This caused him to accidentally kill some of the animals introduced into the Garden because he didnât understand that he was hurting them. HOWEVER â he only became purposefully violent AFTER he faced considerable abuse from the authority figures around him (guards, scientists, Rana herself, and white eyes).
Very important distinction because his lack of empathy was not what drove him to act aggressively, and itâs important to note that a lack of empathy does not mean someone is dangerous, conniving or violent, it just simply means that they donât feel the sensation of empathy. You are free to interpret any of the abio characters as you like, but it is my personal belief Hero is not fully at fault for the violence he displays⊠Iâll explain why;
The violence Hero displayed was merely him, a person very new to the world, parroting the abusive behaviour shown towards him, and his way of trying to process emotions that he was not familiar with such as jealousy (towards the other players), fear of obsolescence and misery at the lack of autonomy and respect he is showed. Hero was in a position where he had no power over himself and was physically, emotionally and mentally dependent on authority figures that did not see him as an equal or a as a fully realized being. For example Hero is unable to will himself to eat without being commanded to by an authority figure (he is anorexic â does not feel hunger) so you can probably see how this puts him in a vulnerable position.
Basically he began to lash out at anyone he could lash out at, whether that be animals or the other players. He could not bear the thought of placing the blame on the authorities of his life because then his whole world would fall apart, so he instead shifts the blame on those in the same position as him (Alex, steve and two others, Jane and Ed, who would then become ânullâ and âentity 303â) convincing himself that they are malicious and want to replace him (when in reality they are basically robot infants).
Then, there was the influence from White Eyes. Iâve previously stated that White Eyes was a void entity but Iâve changed that after a friend suggested it to me and i got hooked on the idea. Sheâs another test subject, an unstable experiment born from trying to fuse living corporeal matter and void matter (basically sheâs an enderman human and various animals hybrid). White Eyes is constantly in pain and this has made her a very vindictive and aggressive being. All voidborn beings have psionic influence and White Eyes has this as well, however itâs not as fine tuned as a natural voidborn like an enderman. Hers is more like an influence. White Eyes rubbed off on Hero, and while she was increasingly immobilized by her dying body, Hero would follow her commands and absorb her emotions like a sponge. They had a very close bond but it was very unhealthy. This was another factor that caused him to commit violent acts.
Anyway, thatâs some abiogenesis hero lore for you.
