I think I generally tend to prefer HDG stories that veer more into the dubcon nature rather than the noncon.

Something about the floret-to-be being tricked and manipulated into a pet long before they are forced directly into it just speaks to me more.

A good example is Dog of War (as always), I loved the dynamic between Princess and Camila through every stage of their journey.

Another one I think works as a good example is Beast at Bay. It's definitely more non-con than DoW, but still works well with that manipulation and trickery over direct brute force (at certain points).

Mainsprings also kinda has a similar premise. Imogen technically started out as a case of non-con, but the stockholm syndrome worked wonders for the story.

I'm challenging myself with this show and seeing how good my color skills really are, so I'm doing my normal thing of watching it double-speed on mute, but now, the captions are off also. It's just colors and vibes here. Y'all done told be EVERYTHING, so I know the entire plot now.

Kentana are you gonna die? You and Waymond are stressing me the fuck out!

Now that I know they are both enigmas, I can't see them the same. Are they using their superpowers on each other right now? Are they reading each other's minds? Are they trying to figure out how to get Kentana back, so they can make this poly?

Kentana, how many times are you going to have this man spit in your face before you realize that he ain't shit? Go to your room, turn on Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever" and really hear it. "Never told anyone anything bad cause that shit's embarrassing. You were my everything, and all that you did was make me fucking sad."

My nerves are wrecked. There was too much black this episode. Someone is going to die, and as much as I want it to be Big Red, I just don't feel good that Kentana is still on his bullshit, and Waymond keeps jumping in front of guns. Peter needs both of his boyfriends to live.

Also, Barbara, I already know you are immediately going to hug Charles next week, instead of having a moment to be pissed all the way off at him like you should be, so I'm going to start meditating on that right now. I've been mad at Charles the entire season, so I'll hold this grudge for both of us in the finale.

ok anyway the other dimension of this scene i wanted to talk about is arthur's repetition of "please" to yellow.

bc like. they're being less actively hostile to each other than they were at first but they still don't really like each other atm. arthur's been very very explicit that yellow is Not John, that he is Worse Than Him. and yellow doesn't understand what all this is about and doesn't want to, they just know that he woke up crying for some reason and is now reciting this story apropos of nothing. they're confused and annoyed, same as they have been when talking abt arthur's past with john. and arthur's actively shut down the notion of sharing any vulnerability with yellow (refusing to talk abt bella, "not making that mistake again.")

but now, arthur basically begs them to let him tell this story. it's beyond an allowance of vulnerability. he's turned entirely inward, seemingly not giving any thought to the very dangerous weapon he's handing yellow by telling them abt this deep-rooted guilt. he needs to get this out, and he needs them to be a witness. he needs their judgement. like a confession.

thanks!! i still recall that this ship came mostly by accident to me, and honestly it was a damn fortunate accident at that because they work AMAZINGLY together. i really do like picking ships by virtue of personality and how well those personalities would mesh together, and don't like ships where that isn't directly considered, which, to be fair, i did at first think the two would probably dislike or hate each other! but i ended up thinking about it more and how the two might actually interact, and, honestly? the way they come off to me has always been that, if they can just get over that initial hump, they're WONDERFUL for each other.

i just like the way they parallel each other. both clinging to what they were told they are for their entire lives, something given to them by family and whom they had little choice in, but which they threw themselves into with a passion simply because they had nothing else they thought they could be. both with nasty, tangled histories, upholding systems which exist to eat the world and themselves simply serving as the last victims of it, neither able to fully question their role in it due to how much has been invested, how much would be lost if they had to put it aside. both with ringing alarm bells of psychological distress of all of this, that they cannot hear because they were never taught they were alarm bells, seeking out something that's close enough to what they were told they're supposed to be but without the teeth, without the fear, without the alarm bells. both rejected by their own systems by virtue of some flaw that isn't really a flaw, a fault that has marked them as unable to live up to their own myths. both only really able to come to any terms about all of this when they have other people, people who aren't a part of that system, people who they can depend on and trust, to start pointing it out and offering alternatives.

it's good! i like when two characters' journeys are really one journey, one path together, when they're in the same boat and just haven't realized it yet. i like it when they realize it, when they can finally start talking about it, finding solidarity in, yeah, actually, this IS bullshit, and why would someone do that to them. i like it when they're a conversation with each other, a mirror through which the other can be dismantled and picked apart and seen for what it is, when both act to lay the other out plain, when only the both of them can see the other for who they truly are.

and i like when it gives characters that are all high octane and presence and tension, just some downtime together. i like it when they can finally take off all that they drape themselves in, and just sit there together, vulnerable and exposed. i like how much they talk and have to say to each other, but i like how much they don't talk to each other as well, how much they can just exist in the silence together because the words aren't necessary. i like it when two characters being vulnerable with each other first feels like strangulation, and then, release.
