His back’s facing you, brown hair tussled from sleep as he prepares his morning tea. You freeze in the doorway as soon as you see the shape of his hair, gulping at the sight.

It’s early, earlier than you’re normally shaken from your sheets by Simon, which is probably why John’s hair is awry. You’ve only seen him with damp hair from working on the farm, indents from his cowboy hat, or freshly washed after a long day.

Not like this.

Of course, you know it’s just his hair, not real antlers, but your tiny heart suddenly beats faster in your chest. Your poor fragile deer likes it. Sees a strong mate with antlers.

You approach slowly, tiptoeing your way closer to him until he turns around abruptly. You jump, like you’ve been caught doing something you shouldn’t, slowly creeping in on your prey as if you weren’t the prey and John the predator.

He just gives you a sleepy smile, large paw finding the small of your back.

“Mornin’ sweet’art.”

It’s gruff, ladened with sleep, and it sends chills down your spine, makes you straighten your shoulders just a little tighter because the chills burn a warmth in your belly.

He’s close, nothing unusual for the men who’ve holed you up in their farm. They’re always invading your space and privacy, but you’re hyper aware this time, licking your lips wantonly.

You step closer, brushing your cheek hesitantly against his shoulder. It’s the first time you’ve been affection without them having to coerce it out of you.

When he doesn’t push you away, buck like a mate who doesn’t want you, you press on. Rubbing your cheek along his shoulder, up the curve of his neck, nosing deeper against the scratch of his beard, and brushing along his cheek.

He just hums, like he likes it, pulling you closer against his broad chest. And how can you resist that? You lick a small stripe against his cheek, testing the waters. He just chuckles, deep and sultry, so you move to his neck, swiping your tongue gently along his skin.

He lets you continue until there’s an eager boner pressed to your hip.

Later, when he tells his men, he thinks it’s because he’s your favorite, doesn’t even know he had bed head that made your deer gravitate towards him.
