Spoken like a true geologist!

(yes, we really do lick rocks to help ID them sometimes! Usually salt, but we can lick sediments to help identify grain size: sand and silt will feel gritty, finer grains won't. We also lick things to see if they're porous because they'll stick to your tongue. Some minerals are porous, and so is bone. I licked a number of charred animal bone fragments at an archaeology dig ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

Okay but like, reverse freckles. Freckles made of light. I have been thinking about this for ages from a fantasy/magical pov, but I've fallen back down my star trek hole. Imagine Spock with light freckles. Imagine if some Vulcans naturally have tiny pinpricks of bioluminscence on their faces, barely noticeable in bright light, but more and more obvious the darker it gets. Kirk goes crazy for them, but Spock never acknowledges it in front of McCoy to make him think he's imagining the little lights on his face

one of my favorite things about sci-fi worldbuilding is that i can write stuff like "tactical kraken dropped from orbit" and make it make sense
