So I've worked two things out about the Adderall. The first one is that I can't control the Adderall horse, but I think I figured out why I can't control the Adderall horse.
The Adderall horse is what I'm using to explain what's happened to me. Not having medication is like walking up a steep hill, it's really fucking hard and I wasn't getting anywhere, but I was suffering a lot. Strattera was like a bike, similar enough to walking that I didn't notice a difference physically, but I was getting there much faster and more efficiently. Getting there was still difficult, but I was getting there. Adderall is a horse. The horse is much faster than the bike, and much easier, but I don't know how to ride a horse. I know where I want to go, but the Adderall horse doesn't give a fuck. I could get to that hill so fast on the Adderall horse if it wasn't going in a different direction.
But I figured out why the Adderall horse is going the wrong direction! Adderall has me so focused that I can't focus.
People with ADHD are very distractible and also stimulus seeking, so people with ADHD tend to be much better at multitasking than other people, but often struggle not to multitask unless they're hyper focused on something or just having a bad focus day. So I'm used to living my life constantly focusing on two to three things at a time and managing that successfully enough that I can usually function. Adderall does not let you do that. You focus on a task, one task. I'm trying to focus on multiple tasks because that's all I know how to do, so I keep switching tasks, hyperfocusing, and then losing large chunks of time because that's what happens when I hyperfocus. I am so capable of focusing that it's making it hard to focus, because I don't know how to focus.

My personal experience with Strattera (+fluoxetine):
I'm not pissed that there's something I really want to do like drawing or sewing but I have to do this chore first. No, I'm just excited to get there.
I don't need to mentally prepare for an hour before doing the chore.
I'm not bored out of my mind. I can work with no music, no video running in the background, I don't have distracting thoughts. No thoughts at all actually. Just PEACE.
I have ENERGY, both physically and mentally. I'm not tired, I don't drag myself through the chore. I work fast, even sort of multitasking, ideas are organized, ideas flow well, good workflow.
Short term memory is better.
I crave less sugar/junk food.
Among other things.
Things that haven't changed too much:
I still hyperfixate with activities (and in general). The past months I haven't touched my drawings or crafts, I've only been wanting/craving to sew.
I still leave things unfinished to start something else. I not only have art WiPs but also clothing WiPs. Imagine.
Now...... There are days/weeks when the medicine doesn't quite work. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what causes it, but I guess it's poor quality sleep. I'm not quite good at recognizing changes in my own behavior, this is what I've noticed so far. And since I'm taking two meds, I'm not sure what to attribute to what.

Ok I did my laundry and the dishes today, which are my usual weekend chores, so I'm meeting expectations (nice, excellent, stellar) but I also spent ten minutes compacting some of the cardboard recycling that's getting really out of hand (we haven't taken it out in weeks) while my toaster strudels cooked. Bonus chore is very cool. Maybe the strattera is working?

for anybody out there who takes strattera & also has pots, i found a study supporting my suspicion that norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can make autonomic nervous system problems worse. defintely something to keep in mind when you’re adjusting dosages & deciding if you need to take any side effect medications to offset things. and speaking from experience here, it might be a situation where the dose you’re on is fine for a while, but then it gets to a point where side effects start to give you trouble & you need to consider the things i mentioned above

Unexpected side effect of adhd medication Atamoxatine: lack of appetite. I was hungry at noon, ate 4 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of toast. Donated plasma. 5 hours after eggs and toast, had a single slice of Casey's pizza - not bc I was hungry but bc I had a headache and knew food would help after plassing (yes that's the verb that's used). 5 hours after that single slice of pizza, I might have a bowl of cereal before bed, but if I didn't eat I'd probably be fine.
Hey, maybe I'll lose weight if I don't ever eat XD
