I have this headcanon for Elias in that he has this borderline obsessive meticulousness for everything both inside and outside the institute.
It's already made clear in canon that he's a lover of paperwork/ bureaucracy. There's just no doubt that bleeds into every other aspect of his life.
I imagine almost a Patrick Bateman level of care into his life. Skin care routine. Impeccably tidy house. A man terrified of dying would have a strict meal plan and gym routine. Elias is a man going through the motions just to get him to his end goal.
If everything superfluous in his life is well practised and maintained, it makes keeping an eye on everything and specifically Jon much easier.

Hello! If you are still doing the monster!Jon requests, would a tiefling count? If not, then Jon as a fae would be pretty cool (I'm talking like, the unseelie court kind of deal, not tinkerbell style but that's cool too. Whichever tickles your fancy).

how goes s5?
Pretty well! Actually, I'm halfway into season 5 and I have almost two entire posts ready.
However, since Eurovision was coming, I didn't want to "break" my four last TMA reaction posts in two halves. So, I waited for the Eurovision week to be over and will soon post again.
Stay tuned ;)

Bouchard.
If the Institute is in such good hands with yourself, where did it acquire that reputation of being a den of crackpots and fools? It is, frankly, enough to make even one who believes in the supernatural both discredit and fear your institution, for worry of what a lair of incompetents might do to them.
You have a silver tongue, I shall grant you that. Though, your other posting, as unprofessional as it is, will hardly give the Institute more of an air of respect. Frankly, seeing the way you speak with people here only makes its reputation worse.
If you are such a good Head, I recommend you cease to constantly make yourself look as though you are an idiot, in public. You may be, in some fashion, the Watcher's head priest, but that does not mean that you ought to disregard the eyes of the masses so, and doing so only makes you seem like a damned fool.
Yours in distaste,
A man with good reason to enquire.
I do not claim to know where in your own journey towards discovering the wider world you are, anonymous, but you seem quite naive. A sad fact of our world is that the human mind will grasp at every pretense, no matter how outlandish, before admitting the world is dark and full of terrors.
Yes, my Institute collects statements from everyone, without burden of proof, as I've found that to be the best way to get as many as possible and not miss the truly paranormal experiences. But, rest assured our research and follow-ups are nothing but rigorous and my researchers skilled and qualified (for the most part, at least. There are always exceptions where efficiency must suffer)
And none of it matters. Do you know why? Because accepting the truth is an endeavor that most will simply never get into.
Paranormal institutions are always going to be rumored dens of crackpot conspiracy theorists and fools. Because accepting they might be something more is something the general public will simply never accept.
I do wonder what your "good reason to enquire" is, however. Did any experience with my Institute give you reason to doubt us? Are you a patron of ours? Do you have a statement to give?
Are you part of the masses, or are you ready to see the truth?

It’s actually really interesting to me.
You start out with more variety. Common theme of the few things described in the podcast, and often like, a color from the podcast.
Then as more and more fanart is made, a pretty consistent character design is born? Everyone influences eachother to the point where there’s a sort of expectation for the design, and it’ll look weird if it’s significantly different. People still have their own designs it’s just there’s a few features that make the character recognizable, even though the character doesn’t actually canonically have any of those features.
Over time the norm for the character design might change a bit, especially if a popular artist does something a little different. It’s just fun to see how we’re all inspired by each other and end up sort of collectively designing a character.
fanart for podcast characters is so funny like how do you know

Just a little.

In my defense the podcast is 200 episodes long (the shortest episode is 17 minutes, but most frequently they're in the mid 20s) and therefore very time consuming to get into. However if u would like to feel included I can and WILL drop rambles about it at the drop of a hat (my two favs are a facet of the literal personification of all that should not exist, insanity, and deceit who is also partially a guy who was sacrificed to a door by his boss to stop the end of the world (the world wouldn't have ended anyways) and merged with the embodiment of everything listed above and now is very much not happy with having to exist and is having identity issues over it; the other fav is a (dead) goth who burns books and went to kill the guy who's books they all were, but thought the guy he was attacking was too pathetic to be the actual guy he was looking for so he just left halfway thru the murder (spoiler alert: it was the right guy))
Also it is SO much easier to write horror stories about an actual story as opposed to cartoon robots. Like the first fic I started writing after reaching official fic territory was about the character (Helen) who replaced first fav (Michael) as the facet of insanity/delusion/distortion/all that pulling pieces of Michael out of her throat (because when he died and dissolved into door he had to go somewhere), like indepth descriptions about how her esophagus that should not exist because she doesn't exist feels as complete limbs emerge, how it swells and at one point there was the feeling of bones sliding out of the leg further down even as the meat rises (bc it is very much a corpse with bones and meat not that attached any more). And how she has to reach her, long, irregular, sharp hands down her throat-that-should-not-be to pull pieces out. And even as it comes to an end she has to look down and see that the Michael in pieces on her floor is far FAR more human than the one she knew.
I've also half written stuff about both favs (Gerard is the name of the goth) having sweet moments together that I heavily underscore with the fact that they both are pawns to the same person, and their lives will likely end whenever that person wishes. Gerard, however, is the only one aware of this and has no intention of telling Michael about everything (though he knows he should). I <3 doomed characters
Also another short thing abt Gerard being a goth and doing his makeup in the firelight of a burning book that has supernaturally killed ppl, completely ignoring his bleeding body in favor of smudging his eyeshadow juuuuuust right. Also him putting his cigarette out one of his tattoos meant to represent an entity attempting to make him a monster thingy (which was my fav part to write)

The Michael Survives AU is so fun, I love him to bits
So he would have been working with Eric Delano originally, right? Was time moving differently for him in the Spiral and just shows up 20+ years later looking mostly the same and nearly gives Gertrude a heart attack?
Because now I'm thinking of him finding out about Eric through Gerry and just adding more fuel to that fire. God, he's so tragic, I love him.
A GRAND question because the timeline for Michael Shelley in general has always been kinda iffy given the canonical information we have from TMA. That’s why I love AU’s, we can kinda flex this stuff a bit.
I kind of like the interpretation that he’s been around the institute since when he was a kid? Like maybe he didn’t have a lot to do and he’s go into the institute’s library and he was a polite and quiet so no one would stop him. He probably meets Eric there.
Then he gets hired on later- but he’s still pretty young. Like 15 or something, but lies on his resume so he can get a job. It helps lead more into his affection towards Gertrude initially, probably seeing her as a mother figure since he started his work with her so young.
I still have no clue when and how long Michael is in the spiral for but the idea is morbidly funny that he thinks “I got out in a few months-“ and oops it’s been YEARS and everyone is old or dead. 🙃

Oh no. Oh fuck. I am relistening to some of the earlier Protocol episodes, and I have a horrible, terrible, no good very bad suspicion about Gerry.
I could, I want to emphasize, be completely wrong! I could be wildly, hilariously, off the mark. But--hear me out. This is going to take some explaining about what I think is going on in the bigger picture worldbuilding stuff; hopefully it'll be coherent, but fair warning, it may get a bit long.
First: there have been a lot of cases that have boiled down to trying to keep only the "good"/desirable/etc aspects of things or events or people, and discard the "bad"/unwanted, right? We saw this happening very explicitly in episode 23 with Alesis Newman, and way back in episode 2 with Daria the painter, but a number of episodes have presented variations on a similar theme.
Two variations in particular that I've been thinking a lot about are the violinist in episode 4 and the gambler in episode 9. The violinist can play his violin beautifully, but he wants to be rid of the price in flesh and blood that it demands. Similarly, the gambler wants the rewards of rolling high on his magic dice, but wants to be rid of the misfortunes that come with rolling low. Crucially, both episodes make clear that in this type of balance--something unwanted for something wanted--you can't just make the unwanted piece vanish. It has to go somewhere, it has to happen. But you can make it happen to someone else, somewhere else. And when that's how the game works, one of the major questions for players who want to get ahead then becomes: "how do I make the bad stuff stay happening somewhere else, and keep reaping the benefits of the good stuff that balances it out?"
Here's where this gets wildly speculative and from here on I freely acknowledge that I may be talking out my ass:
I think the Magnus Institute was investigating that question. I suspect a great many alchemists before the Institute, probably going back to the times of Albertus Magnus, were investigating it as well. I think the Great Work they were attempting -- the "universal transmutation" alluded to in episode 21 as the Magnus Institute's aim -- was the exact opposite of Jonah Magnus's own "Great Work" in TMA. In other words, I think they were probably trying to make the world an eternal paradise, rather than an eternal hell.
But if you're getting rid of all the "bad" stuff, all the suffering and misfortune, it's got to go somewhere.
I think they were sending it through to other worlds.
I'm not going to get into all the reasons I think that right now, because that's a whole essay in itself, but basically--the Leitners in TMA? The artifacts? All the little bits and pieces of evil given physical form, that never had a clear origin point in the world where they caused so much suffering for so long? We've all been worried about them winding up here, post-Archives... but I think this is where they came from in the first place. I think they were sent away in the hopes that an increase in "bad" in other worlds would lead to an increase in "good" in this one. Remember all those books Albrecht von Closen found in the tomb in the Black Forest in TMA, that Jonah Magnus later stole and let loose on the world? Remember that Albrecht found a mysterious coin along with them dated 1279? Albertus Magnus died in 1280; I strongly suspect he sent those books from the world of Protocol to that of Archives shortly before his death, much as the world of Archives sent the tapes away centuries later. But I think Protocol's world kept sending things away, kept trying to export "bad" and import "good". Remember all those happy, laughing volunteers bringing strange and sinister items to the charity shop on Hill Top Road in episode 7? "All for a good cause."
Okay so. Now. With that bit of hypothetical framework for Protocol's worldbuilding in place, let's next go back to Alesis Newman of episode 23. Her expressed wish is to create a new her. "Someone better. Someone the pain can't touch." Someone who can be everything Alesis wishes she could have been. Someone "free of all (her) mistakes."
But increasingly it sounds like what she actually wants isn't to create someone new. It is to create someone who is only a part of her current self. Someone who, she says in one of her last few posts, will "just be the good parts of me."
And if that's the case, if what she's really trying to do is make someone who holds only the "good" parts of her, someone who can be happy and strong and perfect and loved by everyone forever... what happens to the bad parts of Alesis Newman, as she currently exists? What about the parts of her that feel pain and fear, the parts of her that make mistakes, the parts of her that she rejects?
One might assume, from the experience she narrates, that those pieces of her are simply being destroyed. But that doesn't line up with the suggestion we've seen from earlier episodes that there has to be some kind of balance maintained in these bargains. What she actually says is happening to her--and what the forum members have apparently told her will happen, through this process--is that she and this "new her" are "becoming one... and then two."
I don't think the "bad" parts of Alesis Newman are dying. I think they're also going to become a "new her"--they're just going to go somewhere else, somewhere the new, happy, strong, perfect version of Alesis Newman never has to see them.
Still with me?
Okay.
Now let's talk about Gerry. Let's talk about the smiling, laughing, irrepressibly happy Gerry Keay we meet early in Protocol. Gerry who seems to have everything that the Gerry Keay of Archives was denied.
Gerry who underwent tests at the Magnus Institute as a child, and who, per the static over his and "Gee Gee's" words, holds a few more secrets about what went on there than he let on to Sam and Celia.
Back when I first heard Gerry's appearance in episode 8, it sure felt like a narrative gut punch: This is who he could have been in Archives, if not for the presence of the Fears. This is what Jon and Martin's final decision threatens to destroy--for this safe, happy version of Gerry, and for everyone else in his world.
I'm now suspecting it might be significantly worse than that. I think the Magnus Institute might have done to Gerry Keay something similar to what Alesis Newman later did to herself: made him New. Kept only the good parts--ensured a happy, comfortable, good life for him. In which case, all the bad stuff--all the parts of Gerry Keay that would ever have to suffer from bad luck, to feel pain and fear and misery...
...well. They'd have had to go... somewhere else, wouldn't they.
Which would suggest I had the causality the wrong way around the first time I heard Gerry's appearance in Protocol: maybe it's not "Gerry has a happy life in this world because he didn't have to suffer everything that the Gerry Keay of Archives did."
Maybe it's "Gerry in Archives had to suffer everything he did because Gerry in Protocol was made to always be happy."

My thoughts/ideas on a TMA musical
(If anyone wants to help me with this it would be apprechiated 😭😭)
(Under the cut because it's kinda long)
Act I: Introduction, Prentiss & Shenanigans A
Act II: Shenanigans B; Unknowing & Shenanigans C
Act III: Door and Eyepocalypse
TMA important plot points
Act I
Jon hates Martin
Bicon Tim!! 💖💜💙
Prentiss
Michael (Sasha & Helen)
Not!Sasha
Rip Gertrude
Paranoia
Homophobic vase
Table
Leitner
Wanted :(
Georgie & Admiral
Jude
Mike & Daisy
Elias is evil???? 😱😱😱
Act II
Kidnapping
Helen
Jon & Tim trauma 😃👍🏽
Unknowing
Rip Daisy
Zzzzz
Melanie 🔪
Non-Human
Bone 🦴
Oh hey Daisy! :D
🔪👁 Melanie uhoh
Lukas & lonely
Jmart (Cows)
Akt III
Eyepocalypse
Kicking the asses of various Avatars
Martin 😶‍🌫️😭
Rip Daisy 2 electrical boogaloo
Salesa
Tower
Annabelle (But musical plot)
Rip boys 😭🥲😔🫡
Stuff
Peter only shows up at the end when he has to, other than that he is either not there or poorly hidden. He doesnt want people to see him.
Annabelles plan is for a musical instead
Jon feeds on the applause after a number
Not!Sasha always loudly declares to the audience that she is Sasha and that the other actor is…. Taking a break. :)
Jon and Tim sing about their childhood trauma (Daisy: I killed a man when I was eleven. Jon and Tim: 😟 [End song])
Unknowing is Nikolas villain song
Worm song
Statements are short songs Jon/Statement givers burst out into
Elias interruping Jon‘s song abt how he is finally happy (😭) and forcing him to sing a duet with him in mag 160
Annabelles evil song sounds like she's a grade 2 teacher and explaining why pandas are bears or whatever. Yeah that but she keeps starting out easy and then gets too complicated quickly so she has to start again
Distortion pops out of random doors that led to entirely different places just before and after
Helen slams the door into Michaels face when she enters and he dies(™️)
The 'crawls and chokes and blinds and falls' part is a rap
Helen falls through the trap door floor when she dies (maybe?)
Toothrotting Jmart fluff. I can do what I wnat tbis is my musical
Sad ending
One or more person sees the audience (Elias; Anabelle; Jon (as the pupil); Not!Sasha; Helen; More?)
While Jon is in a coma, calm music plays. There is screaming in the background and Melanie running around with knifes, first being chased by something and then chasing something. Both she and the thing leave through Helens door, who waves to the audience and then closes the door in a cool way
Mag 100 is a short comedic intermission you only understand 1/5 of
Every time Jon enters the stage after leaving, he is in slightly worse condition
I open the door immediately before the 2. pause bc big applause (When he says it the doors open for the break?)
Paranoid Jon song: I see you
End of S4 song: I see you (Reprise) [I know who you are / I'll find you out] vs [I know who you are / I'll find you and I'll get you out]
All the fears have a specific instrument assigned to them
Before the first pause, Elias is alone on stage for a moment, turns to the audience and bows. With the applause, a eye appears on/over him by projector
Spotlight as a symbolisation of the eye, something that might be seen as a blessing but becomes a curse if unwanted. It turns on during statements etc and in the tunnels, it's a flashlight instead because they are illuminating themselfes. You walk and the light that shows where you are follows. Running from the spotlight.
Beginning, to audience: You are an eye. Watching over the people if the world for ages yet, there are a few people that stand out to you. Here's one that will become important to you soon. (Cue curtain open to reveal Jon at his desk going 'one, two, one, two, test, test'.)
Ending, to audience: You are an eye. You have watched this world for a long time, but now, it's time to go… somewhere else. (Before bows)
S4 Lonely song called 'no one but you' where Perter is like 'you have no one but you' and Martin agrees and sings along but when Peter is gone he thinks of Jon and sings it in a way that 'you' is Jon like "I have no one but you".
The people who get smited (smitten?) see the audience and are horrified
When people get smitten, a bright spotlight focuses on them and a soft green one on Jon
Akt I
Beginning, first statement (Maybe it's only kind of a rhyme, not a full-on song yet)
More statements & Introduction to the Archival assistants (Martin is introduced first so that he's absent for the rest of the song) (I'm so smart) (Here we can probably also establish that Jon hates him and that Tim is bi?) (Also Melanie shows up for the first time)
-> What about combining those first two points and making like. An archiving song 🤔
Martin storms in with the worms in a jar (That in one scene, cut to a person going "youre saying that… [plot]?")
Sasha meets Michael and Jon first Helen, then Michael as well (A kind of spiral song)
Attack von Prentiss (Worm song)
Sasha gets killed & replaced (Maybe do something meta with the actors here, or just someone that looks completely different shows up wearing a 'the real sasha james' shirt?)
Martin finds Gertrude's corpse, notices the alarm is over and Jane is defeated. Does kind of a weak 'oh… I- I guess it's over' and stumbles away
They meet back up in bandages, not!Sasha is like "YES IT'S ME! SASHA!!!"
Jon's talking to the tape recorder like 'Idk I feel like somethings's wrong' and stalks on the archival assistants who are just like. Drinking tea. Talking. Doing work (or not). Meanwhile Sasha is in the background doing the most obvious and sus shit which he always just barely misses
Jon concludes that someone wants to kill him and sings abt it (I see you)
The song has an interruption with the others coming in for the intervention (And he only gets more paranoid after)
1 or 2 more statements are being read out during the song (or just the title/s said?)
He realizes that it's not Sasha by listening to a tape. In it, on the other side of the stage, Sasha and Tim are talking.  Not!Sasha tries to use her body to stop the audience from seeing this, but fails bc thats not really possible (walks around back and forth waving her arms so she doesn't acually block it for someone the whole time y'know?)
He says a final time "I see you" and the song ends
Jon destroy the table, Not!Sasha and Michael show up
Leitner uses the book to conjure up magical spirits (stage crew) and move the set so u cant see Not!Sasha anymore, which makes her mad but oh well
He starts to explain but mid-song Jon 'goes outside' and Elias comes in, finishes the song in an EVIL (😨) way and turns to the audience, puts a finger to his lips and leaves
Jon comes back and is like 'o shit' and runs away off-stage
Daisy and Basira come by to interrogate everyone (Show here Jon is wanted by police)
He stays at Georgies, who is cool, and pets the admiral
Jon sings a statement abt how Jude is dangerous and decides to pay her a visit. What could go wrong?? He leaves.
Melanie gets hired (Mention that she got shot by a ghost)
Jon's back from Jude and he has a burnt hand but is also on his way to Mike Crew- Surely he cant fuck this one up!
He visits Mike, fucks it up
Daisy kills Mike (rip) and wants to kill Jon but Basira is like wtf and stops her murder song before she can (Something like Get away with this?)
They all confront Elias an he is actually…. E V I L ?!???!!?? 😱😨🤯
Akt II
(First MAG 100?)
For the kidnapping, probably start with him kidnapped and then Michael shows up and is like "Wow Archivist u fucked up I cant believe EVIL SKIN STEALING DOLLS KIDNAPPED YOU AND WANT TO [plot]"
Helen shows up and slams Michaels door in his face and is like 'cmon lets go'
We need to stop the unknowing guys
Tim confronts Jon (Do not ask me what this means all I know is that here we establish they have beef)
Jon & Tim trauma song
They somehow find dynamite. Maybe one more short statement here as well?
They go to the wax museum and there is talking
Nikola villain song (aka unknowing) that ends with Tim being smug and also exploding. During the song there is a brief segment to what each of the characters is going through
The Martin also has to be somewhere here 🔥📃
Jon is in a coma and the Melanie/Weird stuff chase scene
Oliver comes by and he wakes up
They still dont like him
Oh so Martin is working for Mr. Evil man and also Tim and Daisy are dead?!
Statements
(Idk what happens here? Stuff ig???)
Melanie operation (Gone wrong‼️)
Jon realizes he's not really human anymore, which he kind of knew but still he comes to the conclusion that it sucks and therefore so does he (bestie please)
The coffin is delivered
He goes straight into Helens hallways and comes back out with a rib. While he's gone, Martin passes by briefly and we see how lonely he is.
Jon goes into the coffin and finds Daisy which is a song for sure
They come back out and Basira and Daisy are like 🫂
The Dark??
Jon finds out how to leave
Lets gouge our eyes out scene
Melanie gets her eyes' ass and goes away to kiss Georgie (Shes just like "guess ill go get rid of my eyes & kiss my girlfriend byyyeee")
Statement that is interrupted/just after it the hunters come and Jon is like "oh no the hunters from my trip to america" basira/daisy: "when were you in amerika???" Jon: "That time I came home and you said I smelled like guns. Anyways panik."
Daisy goes wolf mode very dramatically after Jon runs off stage to find martin
Elias and Peter (who we finally really ses) reveal the evil plan to Martin who is like "how about no" and then tries to stab Peter (or something like that idk) but there is fog and he is gone
Jon storms in like "MAHTIN!"
The lonely scene with the song
They are in a nice house and it's cool and fluffy
Martin leaves for milk and cows
Jon sings abt how he's finally happy and Elias gets his smug bastard ass in there and forces him to dance along and sing a duet and to fucking rap oh my god this is a crime (After all this time)
It ends with "I- OPEN- THE- DOOR!" as all the door out of the room open
Akt III
Jon goes into a song about the safehouse but Tim and Sasha sing a duet in the background
They decide to leave
Helen shows up like the bothersome creature (/aff) she is
They meet the Not!Them
Smiting song, which is mostly action-packed but there's four parts and the third is MAG 165 (Not!Them - Jude - Lonely house - Jared)
Hunt song starting with Trevor and ending with Daisys death
Uptown house (Either off-stage or Salesa starts trying to sing a song but they faint and he complains when the lights go out)
Martin sings a duet with himself
Jon kills real estate agent, which starts off as a statement but that one woman derails it
Short song abt the Eye & London
Song abt and/or by WTG about their cult where they 1) love each other and 2) deny being prophets whil the cultists sing a chorus about how great the prophets are
Jmart visit Jonah & Jon sings about how he could make things better in his place and gets more & more enthusiastic until Martin interrupts him and they fight (through song?), ending with Martin storming away
Jon sings abt how he knows what's best / Annabelle sings to Martin that she can show him what's best
Jon notices that Martin is gone and goes after him in a boat. (While he's rowing, Fight Song starts going "like a small boat… on the ocean….." and then Basira shows up and climbs in his boat and stops the song (shoots the speaker?) /hj)
Annabelle villain song in which she also explains the rift ("You've grabbed something/someone's attention" while looking directly at the audience. Jon, Martin & Basira follow her gaze but don't see anything) + for sure do the "You have no idea who's listening/watching, do you?"
They talk about what to do & vote that they'll follow Annabelles plan, much to Jons distress. (Make what they want to do very clear here)
Jon goes up, song where he gets his revenge (& ascends)
When he becomes the pupil and the song stops, Jon really looks around and sees the audience & goes kind of "What… Who- Who…? O-Oh. Oh." and stares at them before getting distracted by Martin arriving, who can't see them
Martin arrives and they talk and find what they have to do
Short but bitter-sweet last song together
Ending
Bows

in light of the absolute roller-coaster of catastrophies that was Part 52 and the very understandable wave of pessimism that followed in the fandom I'd like to say that yes, I might just be delusional, but I fully 100% believe that Malevolent is going to end well, and that it having a tragic ending would ruin the whole story.
Malevolent is about Hope, hope in the face of the impossible, hope in the face of things infinitely bigger and more powerful than you, hope in the face of absolute, utter desperation. and it worked so far. when Arthur and John were at their worst, when surviving seemed impossible, hope is what kept them going and what ultimately made them overcome everything they've gone through so far (not unscathed, for sure, but alive and together).
so when you look at the podcast as a whole, at the message that it's trying to convey, what sense would having it end in tragedy make? for example, having either John or Arthur or both die. that their hope was ultimately useless?
I like to compare it to the ending of The Magnus Archives (SPOILERS!!!!!) and how, in that case, a tragic ending was fitting. TMA's whole point was that by the time most of the characters realized stuff was Bad, they were already long since doomed (anglerfish metaphor!!). there was ultimately no hope or choice for them, but the choice they did have was to go through it together. Jon and Martin died together, bringing the Magnus Institute down with them. it was a tragic end that left all of our hearts in shatters, but it was also the perfect end to their story. (END OF SPOILERS FOR TMA)
having said that, Malevolent is not like that. ending in tragedy would go against everything the podcast has been trying to say.
so yes. I fully believe that both Arthur and John are going to live, and that John will get a human body of his own. I could even enter the realm of unpopular opinions (at least based on the fanfictions I've read) and say that I'd love it if Arthur got his sight back, stripping John of his usefulness and leaving him to grapple with the fact that he can be loved and needed simply for who he is, and not for the service he can offer.
again, I might be delusional but I'll be very disappointed if Malevolent doesn't end well. probably bittersweet, sure, probably not a perfect happy ending, but still a good one.

Hi it's me again. TMA/POKÉMON AU??? YES HELLO PARDON ME I NEED TO THROW MYSELF AT THIS OCCULUS AU YOU'VE GOT GOING ON IF YOU DONT MIND
*BUSTS DOWN THE DOOR* I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED
I’ve had this AU simmering away for a while and but haven’t posted that much about it, so thank you for the excuse to scream about my extremely self indulgent Pokémon x The Magnus Archives AU
*ahem*
Introducing:
POKÉMON OCULUS
Tumblr media
(Here’s an illustration I did after getting your ask - Champion Jonathan and his ace Pokémon, Vigitera!)
This AU is set in the Ervenis Region, a relatively small island region off the coast of Galar. It closed its borders two years prior to the main storyline, shortly after its Champion went missing during a series of attacks in its major cities and his predecessor was found murdered. Since then, an acting Champion has been instated and the borders have been reopened, but the Champion still has not been found. Most Ervenisans believe he is dead.
However, the Ervenis Champion isn’t as dead as everyone thinks, and his disappearance is only the first in long chain of events that will shake Ervenis to its very core, orchestrated by a man who aims to rule over a ruined world governed by nothing but his own will and the fear of people and Pokémon alike, and who will stop at nothing to bring that goal into reality.
More lore under the cut!
(Some of the AU-specific names and terms might be placeholders in that I haven’t been able to come up with anything better lmao)
(Also some of the art might be a bit old)
General Lore Stuff
Jon is the Champion who went missing, and Gertrude is his murdered predecessor.
Martin is Ervenis’ Pokémon Professor
Martin being the Professor is literally perfect.
Be. Because.
All of the Pokemon Professors (except for the newest ones) are named after trees.
And Martin’s last name is BLACKWOOD. Which is an ACTUAL TREE.
Tumblr media
(My first rough attempt at drawing Jmart in the Pokémon art style)
Also jmart are extremely married
They’re Ervenis’ favorite power couple
(Professor Blackwood for half of the main plot: *sighs.* …I miss my husband. I miss him a lot. I’ll be back.)
Their Pokémon ship name would be Londonfogshipping
Martin has a Galvantula (most likely a regional form), a Sinistea, a Frosslass, and a Togekiss
Jon, in addition to AU-specific Fakemon, has a Gardevoir and a Luxray
Jon also has a shiny Appletun on his team and Martin has a Flapple. Make of that what you will :D
Also yes there are Fakemon in this thing
I have never designed any Fakemon before except for one thirty-minute period of time from when I was ten but I’m not going to let that stop me
Tumblr media
(Initial Fakemon sketches! Three guesses as to which characters get Sqwyrm and Manickregus and the first two don’t count)
(Also Ervenisan Yamask has another form, which evolves into Ervenisan Cofagrigus which is inspired by the Do Not Open coffin)
(I have a whole list of Fakemon designs I want to make but 90% of them aren’t fleshed out at all)
Tim and Sasha are Professors in their own right, and also Martin’s assistants/fellow researchers
Tim has a Houndoom because I saw another TMA Pokémon AU that gave him one and I really liked the idea, he also has a Ludicolo because I lost a debate with my friend who is also into both TMA and Pokémon
Sasha has a Dartrix and a Meowstic
Most of the Avatars are gym leaders
Tumblr media
(Yippee gym leader designs!)
(Not pictured because I ran out of steam before I could draw them: Michael and Helen, who run a double Electric-type gym; Daisy, who runs a Dragon-type gym; Karolina, who runs a Ground-type gym; and Jared, who runs a Normal-type gym)
Elias is the acting Champion in Jon’s absence and the secret leader of Team Chrysalis
The current Elite Four consists of Peter, Simon, Maxwell, and Annabelle
You might have noticed that Jon and the gym leaders are all wearing (mostly) black pendants/brooches
This is part of the Ervenis’ region’s “gimmick:”
Metafestation (which is. Almost definitely a placeholder name)
Skilled trainers can use special items called Metalenses to tap into the psyches of Pokemon and Trainer to manifest the shape of their desires and the power of their emotions in reality.
You basically give the Pokémon a JoJo Stand
Each Metalens must be specially shaped and cut to suit unique trainers and Pokémon, and since using poorly made Metalenses may have disastrous consequences on its users, only a handful of people have the qualifications and legal authorization to do so
(Gerard Keay is one of these people!)
Metalenses are usually worn as pendants or brooches so they’re close to the user’s heart
For the Metafestation power-up to be strongest, the trainer and Pokémon must have a shared goal/desire and a deep bond
(This bond does not have to be a positive one. It just needs to be strong.)
These Metafestations have their own typing system, though no one’s been able to figure out exactly what it is yet.
It’s the Fears. The Fears are the typing system.
Though most users of this system aren’t aware of it, Metafestation comes from achieving a delicate balance of both desire and fear.
When I first came up with this idea, it was JUST Fear, but I felt like that was a bit dark for frickin POKÉMON so I added the desire aspect
After all, what we fear and and what we desire often go hand in hand
You desire safety because you fear its absence, you desire light because you fear the dark, you desire freedom because you fear being confined, etc.
For example, Professor Blackwood desires companionship, and fears being forgotten. Most of the Metafestations he and his Pokémon create are foggy and cold, but in a way soothing at the same time.
Though a small handful of them are spindly and laced with puppet strings and reflect his desire to wield his cunning for good.
(However, he hasn’t been able to properly use his Metalens in years. The first and only time he tried after his husband vanished, it backfired horribly, consuming both him and his Pokémon in a chilling fog and sending them spiraling into unconsciousness. It took weeks for them to recover, and Professor Blackwood bears a physical scar of the incident in the streaks of stark white in his hair.)
Of course, most people don’t have just one desire/fear. The Metalens just channels the strongest ones, and most users don’t achieve more than three separate tertiary types of power-ups.
One of the biggest exceptions is Jon.
He desires many things: Safety, love, knowledge. He also fears many things: Being manipulated and controlled, abandonment, the unknown.
When he was a child, something happened to him that scarred his psyche in such a way that he could channel all of his desires and fears.
It’s what makes him such a potent conduit for the power-up system, and what makes him a prime target for:
Team Chrysalis
Team Chrysalis is a criminal organization/sort of cult disguised as something innocent: The Magnus Institute, the region’s main research institution that Professor Blackwood works at
The AU’s main plot gets kicked off when Professor Blackwood finds evidence that his husband, the missing Champion, is still alive
If this were a real game, the main story on the side of doing the gym challenge would be helping Professor Blackwood look for clues about Jon’s whereabouts and about The Magnus Institute’s hidden goals
Professor Blackwood also figures out that it’s very likely that Elias had a hand in Jon’s disappearance
(Professor Blackwood for the other half of the main plot: *slams down the Do Not Open coffin in front of Elias* It’s a coffin. There’s a name engraved on it. “WHORE!” IT’S EMPTY!! *grabs Elias by the collar* AND YOU’RE GOING IN IT!!!)
The Elite Four are also part of Team Chrysalis and fully on board with its plan
Though Annabelle might have her own machinations going on
Team Chrysalis plans to reshape the world as they see fit by summoning a Legendary Pokémon that’s a warped physical manifestation of the fears and desires of all living creatures, and simultaneously embodies and feeds on those fears and desires
(It’s basically all the Fears mashed into one eldritch monstrosity)
(I’m mildly worried this sounds too similar to some existing legendaries but at the same time I’m just spitballing and having fun here)
To summon this Legendary, they need a lynchpin capable of channeling all of those fears and desires
This lynchpin is Jon because of course it is.
Team Chrysalis’ whole plan actually only serves to grant Elias immortality and make him king of a ruined world but shhh none of the team members know that
I have zero idea what the Legendary would look like, I just have the fact I want it to have “Pan” in its name
The climax of the story comes when Team Chrysalis starts their ritual and the end of the world. In order to stop them, their Vessel and the Legendary must be defeated.
Tumblr media
You are challenged by The Archivist!
The Really Self Indulgent Part
I started working on this at the same time that my friend was watching through XY for the first time
So at some point when coming up with all of the story stuff my brain went “what if I stuck Ash Ketchum into the story?”
So Ash is there now. For some reason lol
Tumblr media
He’s 19 now and is just doing his thing and traveling the world
As usual, he takes on the player’s role, challenging gyms and helping Professor Blackwood in his investigation and eventually helping him take on Team Chrysalis
(I made this shitpost in like. Less than an hour lmao)
Ash is so done with these evil team leaders trying to destroy the world
Greninja is also there because tHIS IS MY AU AND I DO WHAT I WANT *MANIACAL LAUGHTER*
And I think that’s it for an overview of Pokémon Oculus!
I have a bunch more stuff for this AU, mostly spitballs and WIP writing snippets, and I do plan on making more art and Fakemon designs eventually (especially now that I’m getting better at emulating the Pokémon art style)
Thank you for reading this far, and feel free to ask me anything about this AU! :D

One of the more depressing effects of systemic transmisogyny is the way some trans women get so desperate for any validation thar they start praising chasers. And not just specific chasers who gave them an apparently "good" experience, but with the entire concept of chasers as a whole. It's like they feel flattered by the idea of people seeing their transness as a positive characteristic, something that makes them attractive and special, while ignoring the way that even "best case" that attraction stems from a place of dehumanisation which sees you as merely part of a class of sex objects rather than an actual individual person. I say "best case" because for many chasers their attraction to transfeminity comes less from a desire for those associated characteristics in a vacuum, an inexplicably desire for girlcock or what have you, but from the vulnerability (both personal emotional and systemically socio-economic) that TMA people experience making them much easier to exploit and abuse
Like Pro-Chaser sentiment is a product of people completely misunderstanding what a Chaser is and what they do. No matter how lonely you are it doesn't do any good to see Chasers as some easy outlet for sex and validation; their treatment of transfems isn't just degrading but is often outright dangerous to an even greater extent than your average TME individual. Not the sort of people you want to be spending any time around
And sometimes you even see this sort of sentiment, this desire to be loved by someone who only loves you as a tranny because at least it's some sort of love you can get as a tranny, creep through when others are treating Chasers in a critical or mocking way. Like the Halimede MF twitter account's whole deal is roleplaying as a (somewhat exaggerated but still recognisable) specific sort of Lesbian Chaser; the "harmless transfeminist girl" if you will. Regardless of what you think of the bit, it's very clearly a bit. It's largely meant to be funny, but certainly not flattering to the kind of chaser Halimede embodies.
Most of the transfems I know recognise this, on one level or another, but you sometimes see girls express an almost genuine longing for her. A desperation for affection so great that it bleeds into how they treat a caricatured depiction of someone that is predatory on a fundamental level, just because it represents a "real woman" capable of feigning some shadow of respect for their identity and struggles despite the obviously dehumanising way with which this character regards trans women and their anatomy. Sure a lot of this "I want Halimede" stuff is just playing along with the joke, but some of it has enough genuine sentiment behind the irony that it makes you worry. To put it in Tumblr terms, HalimedeMF is another example of "You missed the point by idolising her". Which isn't to blame the individuals; the fact it happens at all is just another manifestation of a much larger and more horrible system. But it's saddening how attempts to criticise our oppression, even light-heartedly, can end up just reflecting it back into our faces. We need to do better than this
