PhD vs. EdD: The Undeniable Supremacy of the PhD over EdD
PhD vs. EdD: The Academic Showdown You Didn’t Know You Needed The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and the Doctor of Education (EdD) represent the pinnacle of academic achievement in their respective disciplines. However, salient differences exist between the two degrees in terms of legacy, purpose, structure, reputation, and rigor. This essay undertakes a thorough comparative analysis to argue that…

i think what really sets me off is that poetry, literature, and calligraphy were not only masculine pastimes to have (+ the scholar class was male-only, famously), nie huaisang focusing so much on them is reminiscent of chinese dynastic succession struggles. in the past, unambitious siblings would throw themselves into the arts, poetry, music, etc, while eschewing politics and power plays so their siblings who DID have ambitions for the throne wouldnt kill them. having martial and military power made you a threat, and with how the cultivation world at the time looked geopolitically, it was crucial for him not to attract too much attention (esp with what type of cultivation qinghe nie is known for). it's such a small detail but makes perfect sense, especially taking into account how he is meant to be a frivolous second young master and not the heir like his brother (where such a sentiment would be much more frowned upon). there is sm nuance to his character but western fans see his fans and how he has no idea how to pick up a sword and go "ok hes the effeminate limp wristed artist lol"
#ling.txt#mdzs#nie huaisang#actually i wrote an essay on this a while ago.... wld anyone want to read an actual academic text on how western perceptions of gender#influence how nhs is read and miscontructed#edit: essay is posted btw. if u even care

I have finally understood why my (surgeon) dad's gallery used to be filled with random pictures of cut open stomachs. My gallery is now filled with just coatings after coatings on aluminium. Once the research starts, it genuinely gets so exciting. I love the work here and I finally, truly, believe I have chosen the correct career path.

Psychology is a very broad field, and there are a lot of different aspects to this field. It’s really hard to navigate this science without a bit of academic knowledge, so I’m going to open up my asks in general for people who are interested in psychology. I have access to several academic databases and I would love to share them with people who want them! I also really want chances to info dump and get excited over psychology more often :,))
My research surrounds psychology, especially psychopathology and DID research, so a lot of my support will be good through that. However, I do have a bit of knowledge on other branches of psychology if you are interested (e.g. sensation and perception, cognitive, early childhood development, some neuropsychology). I can also connect these to psychopathology fairly well, that being my specialty. If this actually gets interest, I may make a side blog to help give psychology education.
I have more information under the cut if you would be interested!
(Yes I know a lot of the tags are DID related but thats a big target audience of mine so sue me /lh)
If you do send me an ask, make sure to be as specific as possible. I can (and will) do some extra preliminary research to figure out things, but the more specific the better for me! Terms that are used colloquially usually have other terms in research/are misunderstood by general discussion. I also have access to general textbooks covering branches of psychology if you are interested in the overall field!
Also please be sure to ask me for a simplified explanation if you need one! The abstract, background info, and discussion sections are your friend.
No question is a stupid question!!
Here are some different overall categories to stir up some interest (and these are categories I definitely feel the most comfortable in, but it is not an expansive list):
Sensation and Perception: This is the study of the different senses and how this contributes to our perception of the world. The research surrounds the physical detection of stimuli through the senses (sensation) and how the brain interprets this information (perception). Some commonly covered sense are: vision, audition (hearing), vestibular, somatosensation (touch), interoception, olfaction (smell), and gustation (taste). (I am currently looking into the vestibular system, it’s very cool).
Cognitive psychology: This is the study of how people think and process things. A lot of this includes attention, perceptions, memory, language, and problem-solving skills. This branch is all about the process of information, including the ones we are not consciously aware of. (I have been a TA for this class).
Developmental psychology: This is the study of development through the human lifespan. It is typically broken down into early childhood (infancy to 10-11 years of age; infancy can also be separated on its own), adolescence (roughly 12-18 years), adulthood (age ranges from 18-65, but this is usually broken down), and later adulthood (65+ years of age). It can be very all encompassing of psychological functions.
Social psychology: This is the study of how society impacts the thoughts, feelings, and actions of the individual—regardless of whether it is an imagined or actual interaction. Social psychology can cover things such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, disability, etc.. Covers conformity, deviance, socialization, prejudice, and more.
Personality psychology: This is the study of personality traits we can find in an individual and how it influences an individual’s behaviors, adaptations, or interactions. The three levels of personality analysis: human nature (how alike we are to the entirety of humanity), individual/group differences (how alike we are to specific groups), and individual uniqueness (how we are like no one else).
Biological psychology: This is the study of the biological and physiological processes that make us react and behave in the ways we do. It includes human anatomy to explain the interactions of biology (endocrine, immune, neural pathways, etc.) to psychology. When I use the term “biomarkers,” it is most likely related to biological psychology
I can probably make a few posts about how to navigate research papers, the kinds of papers you will come into, different statistical tests, and some general basic introductory psychology information.

befriending people who analyze media the same way you do is like winning the lottery finally i can talk about cybertronian politics and social structures without seeming insane
#☀️ txt#transformers eating my brain for 90% of my life has the unfortunate side effect of compelling me to write academic essays#i need to read mtme and other idw continuities so i can write a sociological analysis of cyberonian functionalist ideologies#and how alt modes affect perceptions of identity self-esteem and self efficacy#and thusly how both those societal level AND self imposed restrictions lead to the civil war

people are so quick to laugh at other people for taking extremely loaded and upsetting representation in media ~too seriously~, but also conflate the words of some of the most powerless marginalized people with censorship by the FUCKING US GOVERNMENT. it’s so disingenuous it’s so silencing it’s so fucking shitty
it also very much feels like the cultural moment we’re in right now, where bringing up issues rooted in deep irl power structures is automatically written off as oversensitive and reactionary. it’s just media, until it’s an example from real life—then it’s just not that serious, or it’s childish to draw those connections, or it’s censorship to bring it up in the first place. allusions to irl violence are chump change but irl violence is always an isolated incident. and no one cares that this attitude magically seems to exclusively benefit the extremely conservative worldview that holds power
like lmfao no i don’t think it’s your right or anyone’s right to cover your eyes to obviously shitty offensive media writing laden with cultural baggage…. so that you can ~just enjoy it~! does this say nothing about you when you jump to silence the critiques of folks who noticed the harmful shit that went over your head? hot take… media is actually made and consumed by human beings who live in a society
#i don’t hate the fallout show but neither do a lot of the ppl lobbing extremely valid critiques?#devaluing all media critique as censorship or petty fandom bullshit or whateverrr makes my blood boil#ya’ll we live in real life. there is a massive body of academic work studying how media absolutely affects societal perceptions#and how many tropes (like extreme violence against black men or black characters made incompetent for comedic effect) have deep roots#that is real. i am so sorry#get over yourself! it’s not the Mature position to not give a shit about anything#no one is harming you in any way when they bring up issues with your favorite Franchise#i’m so sick of seeing critical ppl devalued as childish and petty when ppl throw fits over the tiniest critique of their fav tv show

@mothcub 's video about plagiarism from earlier this year. An important watch.
#james somerton#hbomberguy#mothcub#my thoughts about this:#1. as someone who's had something similar happen to me (on a much much smaller scale) i appreciate mothcub's analysis of the situation#2. this is not a discussion of academic plagiarism but of plagiarism in general - ie 'passing someone else's work off as your own' -#but especially in cases where 'the work' is your entire presence/'brand'/perceived visual style or style of communication#and 3. mothcub raises an important point about the public *perception* of plagiarism and how outrageously acceptable it often is#I think the most important thing hbomberguy has just done is show people that copying IS in fact a lazy and shameful thing to do#that it IS in fact a violation#i think that was something that needed pointing out and I'm glad he did it

you need to stop thinking your anecdotal experience is a substantive generally applicable argument. you need to stop assuming that being directly impacted means you have a comprehensive understanding of things. and you need to stop feeling like people who say batshit things are correct because they’re speaking from experience and the broad strokes sentiment is something you agree with and support. please.
#and EYE need to stop getting mad that people are making imperfect arguments on the internet#repeating to myself over and over this is not a publication this is an unfiltered pace#people speaking on their experiences is how you find the general perspective of the collective. understandable and still valid.#I really wish that people who were attempting to go about legitimate productive discourse did so through different means#and that’s why this post is unrebloggable bc ultimately it is not a useful actionable complaint#like a social media platform is always going to be about the collective experience#more than objective discussion#and just because I am frustrated by that taking on an academic tone doesn’t mean it’s a less functional form of communication#also like people falling flat on their face to listen to any internally contradictory opinion from a marginalized voice is still like.#ten times better than the version of collective commentary that exists to exclude the dissent/minority#and I think a lot of people who make the complaint I’m making#about overly identity focused anecdotal perspectives online#forget the alternative isn’t perspectives with more academic rigor it’s town halls with tighter gates.#social media isn’t where organized dialectics happen#and so that’s not really the best lens through which to view the platform#demanding academic rigor from public space conversations is how you get debate bro ethos#listening to how individualized perspectives shape one’s perception of structures is how you form an understanding of positional politics#effective communication#and how demographics are systemically led towards certain belief structures#the public space is IMPORTANT#however I am also an individual. so I am allowed to express my frustration with the public space in the public space. that’s how this goes.

The Unseen Threads: Weaving Together Religious Studies, UFO Research, and the Human Condition
The convergence of religious studies, UFO research, and explorations of the human condition yields a rich tapestry of themes, illuminating the complexities of belief, perception, and our quest for understanding. A notable aspect of this intersection is the organic transition from traditional academic disciplines to the study of unconventional phenomena, as exemplified by the guest’s journey from religious studies to UFO research. This convergence underscores the notion that belief systems, whether rooted in religiosity or experiences with the unknown, share common dynamics, highlighting the value of interdisciplinary approaches in understanding human experiences.
Personal narratives and synchronicities play a significant role in shaping one’s predisposition to exploring unconventional topics, as evident in the author’s account. This phenomenon speaks to the deeply personal and often serendipitous nature of research interests, emphasizing that individual experiences can serve as potent catalysts for scholarly pursuits. Moreover, the acknowledgment of these personal influences fosters a more nuanced understanding of the researcher’s perspective, encouraging a more empathetic and open-minded engagement with the subject matter.
Delving into historical and folkloric records reveals a profound, cross-cultural narrative of encounters with the unknown, challenging the modern, Western-centric view of UFO experiences. The existence of aerial phenomena reports across various traditions, including Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, medieval Chinese, and Islamic, positions these experiences within a broader, timeless human context. This historical depth not only expands our understanding of UFO phenomena but also underscores the importance of considering non-Western perspectives in the pursuit of knowledge.
The evolving legacy of UFO researchers, such as John Mack and Allen Hynek, illustrates a shift towards nuanced, multidisciplinary approaches, acknowledging the complexity of the subject. This development encourages a move beyond simplistic skepticism or credulity, embracing instead a more balanced and informed understanding. The resurgence of interest in these figures’ work serves as a testament to the field’s growing maturity, recognizing the value of diverse methodologies in illuminating the human experience.
The intersection of indigenous knowledge with modern technological endeavors, as hinted at in the “Right Stuff” connection, underscores the enduring relevance of ancient experiences with the unknown. This theme resonates with the broader conversation, suggesting that, despite the trappings of modernity, fundamental aspects of the human condition remain constant across time and culture. Ultimately, this realization invites a more humble and inclusive approach to understanding, one that acknowledges the wisdom of diverse cultural and historical contexts.
As we navigate the convergence of these disciplines, several avenues beckon further exploration, including the intricate interplay between perception, reality, and knowledge, and the question of whether Western struggles with the unknown are universally applicable. Moreover, the potential outcomes of emerging research initiatives promise to illuminate new pathways in understanding non-human intelligence, underscoring the importance of continued inquiry into the human experience. By embracing this interdisciplinary pursuit, we may uncover a more profound understanding of belief, perception, and our shared quest for knowledge, reminding us that the pursuit of understanding is, in itself, a timeless and deeply human endeavor.

Good students, on the other hand, constantly raise the bar for themselves
as they focus on what they haven’t learned and mastered yet. This is why high achievers who have had a taste of the vast amount of knowledge out there are likely to suffer from what psychologists call imposter syndrome, the feeling that you are not really up to the job, even though, of all people, they are (Clance and Imes 1978; Brems et al. 1994).

Thank you!!! And how timely—I've been planning to dress up as an infamous, ex-college student for Halloween.
And if you wanted a cooler answer, I've nothing for you. I'm not a hedonist, neither a murderer nor an anatomist, and I am a part of precisely zero secret societies. [I steeple my fingers.] What say you to that? /j

There was this post I saw awhile back that asked what was the one thing you would get pretentious about since everyone has at least one. I didn’t reblog it at the time, but my god if I have to see any more bad faith or media illiterate surface level take about Chainsaw Man, I’m going to become the literacy devil
#Parker says things#I’m not going to get into spoilers especially from the manga but please 😭😭😭#this is a story about fear and love and cyclic abuse and societal perception and just#relationships developing in the mundane moments and how those can also be twisted and so much more#I could write a whole academic thesis on Kick Back alone. or the other pop culture references and what they symbolize#or the psyche of any main character or even more#but too many people reduce the anime to ‘waifu bait’ or hating Denji or any other character for surface level reasons#anyways this is on my mind bc I was thinking about Makima again shfjfjfjfh#I don’t care if someone drops the series or doesn’t like it but don’t tell me it’s a cringe fanservice or whatever when it’s not 👍#you can dislike it overall but I’m gonna be annoyed if you walk up to me in cosplay to tell me I’m a bad person for dressing up as an antag
