“The monsters gone and your daddy here…”
Batboys as fathers

1. Jason Todd(ALLL girls, 2-4 girls)
• Protective but soft dad: Looks like he’d teach his kid how to hotwire a car (and maybe he does), but he’s the first to tear up during a school play.
• Reads bedtime stories with dramatic flair: Does all the voices, sometimes throws in a few expletives before quickly correcting himself.
• Rides or dies for his kid: Anyone bullies them? Jason shows up at school with the most terrifying “talk” a teacher or principal has ever had the misfortune of enduring.
• Teaches them practical skills early: Like street smarts, how to throw a punch, and the importance of carrying snacks.
• “If anyone hurts you, just tell Dad” vibes: Then he vanishes for a couple of hours. No one asks questions.
2. Dick Grayson(3 girls one boy)
• Golden retriever dad: Super involved, enthusiastic, and emotionally available.
• Dance party central: His kid knows every 80s and 90s pop hit. They have choreographed routines.
• Always has a band-aid, a snack, and dad jokes ready: And somehow manages to make even the worst day better.
• Takes a million pictures: Captures every moment — first step, first fall, even the tantrums.
• Teaches empathy and kindness first: Encourages emotional expression and gentle strength.
3. Tim Drake(2 boys)
• Anxious but dedicated: Googled “how to be a good dad” about 1,500 times.
• Coffee-fueled midnight cuddles: If the kid’s up late, Tim’s probably already awake working on something — but drops everything for them.
• Super into educational toys: Probably has flashcards and a toddler coding game by the time they’re three.
• A quiet anchor: His love is subtle but steady. He might not always know what to say, but his presence means everything.
• Raises a tiny, smart-mouthed mini-detective: And secretly loves it.
4. Damian Wayne(Twin dad, one of each)
• Surprisingly gentle (with his kid): Doesn’t trust most people with them and is always watching with eagle eyes.
• Teaches discipline, but cuddles in secret: Has a hard time being emotionally open but melts when his child hugs him first.
• Introduces them to animals early: His kid is on a first-name basis with most of the zoo. Also knows how to feed a bat properly by age five.
• Mini-me energy: His kid is probably as stubborn, blunt, and deadly smart as he is.
• Takes parenting as a sacred duty: He’ll raise a warrior, yes, but one who understands mercy and love.
5. Bruce Wayne(girl)
• Trying his best: He has no idea what he’s doing, even though he has so many children
• Overprotective to the extreme: GPS tracker in their shoes, private security at the playground — you name it.
• Teaches with stories: Lessons often come through stories about “a friend” who was also a vigilante and made mistakes.
• Rare but meaningful vulnerability: Those quiet, late-night talks where Bruce opens up just a little are life-changing.
• Sees being a father as redemption: He’s determined to give his child the safety and love he never had.

After watching the walkthroughs of Prime game one day, the idea came up to create vehicon OC - a tank and a sniper that work together.
The tank was named Tarc (a nickname that was created from his serial number). The helicopter's name is Ledo.
The bottom line is that these are the last surviving vehicons of the species, who traveled to Earth on a Decepticon escape pod.
All in all, it's a pretty typical duo of a calm big guy and an impulsive little guy, who nevertheless give each other the support they need after surviving the horror of the war on Cybertron. I suppose that helicopters were originally made with not the strongest psyche in order to keep them close to the tanks - their main defenders. Tarc and Ledo have moved much further away from their original programs, i.e. mentally they are more evolved, but that also means they are more unstable. So, for Megatron specifically, they're a problematic pair. But the leader is willing to overlook their shortcomings, as these guys are still an strong unit.
Tumblr media
And despite Ledo being a psychologically strong sniper (when compared to other vehicon-helicopters), he still gets broken from time to time. Hell hasn't gone away for both of them. But in the years they've spent together, Tarc has learned to express empathy (tanks are created quite indifferent and poor on emotions )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After everyone left Cybertron, the two survived by using spare parts from their dead comrades. There's already a headcanon here that the choppers could give first aid to their tanks if they got too badly damaged during the hostilities. They didn't replace medics, of course, but it increased their chance of survival, which was key for this pair. Of the most noticeable details, the Tarc had the left half of the "wall" replaced with a new one. The sniper, on the other hand, had part of his leg taken from one elite siker (their distinguishing features may change though)
Tumblr media
I don't know if there will be minicomics with them, but just like these guys. Despite the fact that there are almost no references with their anatomy and everything is drawn almost at random x)

Caitlyn and the Grey- Symbolism
I think it’s interesting to consider the Grey, within the narrative, as symbolic of Caitlyn’s character arc throughout Act 1, and how she is influenced by and influences the wider context.
The Grey is, I think, a morally grey choice. Its symbolism and use encapsulate the tensions at the time both within Caitlyn’s character and within the wider context of Piltover and Zaun. It also preludes the outcome of Act 1, and where this leads Caitlyn, Piltover, and Zaun.
Ive tried my best to unpick the threads which twine together in the narrative, but this is only my interpretation and there are aspects I may have missed. Along the same line, I have decided to focus on Caitlyn, so my analysis of why other characters (like Jinx and Vi) make their choices is not as in-depth, and definitely deserve their own analysis.
(I made an earlier post about Caitlyn & the Grey, but some of my wording was a bit shoddy and the analysis not as explored as it could have been. I hope this offers something better.)
Caitlyn- loss, the crown, and vengeance:
Following the attack on the council which kills her mother, Caitlyn is grappling with her emotions.
She feels a deep, deep grief for the loss of her mother. She is also guilt-ridden, blaming herself for not stopping Jinx whilst she could- ‘I had the shot.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she is angry. Incredibly angry. Jinx is the target of her anger- literally; Caitlyn fantasises about shooting her. ‘I want to tear that laugh from her throat forever.’ Clearly, she wants some kind of vengeance.
On top of this, she now has the ‘legacy’ of the Kiramman house sitting on her shoulders. Guilt-ridden, she admits to her father she feels neither ready nor deserving of becoming the matriarch. But nonetheless, people are now looking to her. Her father can collapse at the funeral, but she must stand tall. The only people she admits vulnerability to are those closest to her- Jayce and Vi (especially Vi emotionally, crying in her arms).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crown is heavy, the grief is drowning her, but Caitlyn does recognise that her anger is having a negative influence on her thinking. ‘I know,’ she says to Jayce he expresses alarm at her desire for revenge (this is a line I will come back to later).
And that self-reflection is important to consider, too. Caitlyn in season 1 is intelligent and perceptive, and recognises in her succinct, direct manner both her own ignorance to and the extent to which the Piltover/Zaun divide stretches. ‘This city needs healing. More than I ever realised.’ ‘Please,’ she asks Ekko, ‘let me help you,’ or else, ‘the cycle of violence will never stop.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the council attack, some kind of conflict does, unfortunately, seem inevitable between the two cities. Whether this be all-out war or not, the cycle continues. But whilst Caitlyn is impacted by the attack, she retains being driven by the same empathy and perception which made her open to recognising her own ignorance.
Both Caitlyn and Mel are reluctant that a full-scale invasion of Zaun occur, knowing this was the act of a ‘single deranged individual’ and that ‘innocents could be caught in the cross fire.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Ambessa’s interjection, however, the invasion is set to go ahead, although without the use of Hextech.
Ambessa fans flames further by aiding the chem-baron attack on the memorial service. And this attack exacerbates all of Caitlyn’s negative emotions.
The pressure on her shoulders as the Kiramman heir, her guilt, her grief. Her anger, absolutely. I think that this is when they become the prevailing emotions which influence her choices and cloud her self-perception, as well as her perception of others.
And this is when things get grey.
Establishing the Strike team:
Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship in Act 1 definitely deserves its own deep dive. I’m painfully aware I’m not giving it the attention it deserves here. But, for the sake of brevity, I think, for Caitlyn, Vi anchors her to the self-reflection she is beginning to lose sight of.
Following the memorial attack, Vi is looking for the Caitlyn she knows, the Caitlyn who took on the council in season 1. The Caitlyn who, after that failed, was ready to make a new plan and ‘fix’ things. The Caitlyn who was a misfit to her own society. The Caitlyn she fell for.
But Caitlyn is hemmed in by the Kiramman pressure and her emotional struggles. Vi urges her to stop the invasion- this will only lead to more hurt on both sides- but Caitlyn cannot think of how to ‘fix’ things. ‘She dies and leaves this giant hole, and I’m just supposed to fill it.’
She needs Vi to anchor her. ‘Everything is falling apart,’ she laments. ‘We won’t let it,’ Vi promises. She retains that connection, that grounding and belief in Caitlyn, in the woman she knows (and loves). They can stop the invasion, take matters into their own hands.
This holding onto their optimism to ‘fix’ things remains important, even as tensions are incredibly heightened after the memorial attack. Even as they are trapped in these tensions, part of the cycle. The choices they make becoming part of the cycle.
It’s a battle within itself. Vi is trying to hold onto Caitlyn for as long as she can throughout Act 1. And Caitlyn is still there, but she is battling with herself. With her grief, guilt, and anger.
And as they devise their plan, we see Caitlyn at the Kiramman archives. She is taking up the mantle. She uses the literal symbol of her family- their key- to discover the archives, the vents, and the Grey.
The Grey reflects back on her face, her pensive expression. In an earlier post, I said this represented the dark path Caitlyn is going down. However, I think it is more complex. I think it reflects her struggling to grapple with her emotions and the pressure and tension of the current situation and how these are convincing her to make a morally grey choice.
It is important to place the establishment of the strike team and their use of the Grey within this context.
Tumblr media
The Strike Team and the Grey
The Grey is indicative to me of the situation in which it is used. This is reflected in how it is used, and in its very nature itself. It is a morally grey action because of the what, why, and how.
The wider context is also important, and we are invited by the framing to consider the comparisons and contrasts in the strike team’s use of the Grey the historical precedent of its presence in Zaun.
I want to explore what the Grey actually is and the strike team’s use of the Grey first before turning to Caitlyn specifically and why she chooses the Grey and what it represents.
There are a lot of layers you could consider when breaking down the moral greyness of the Grey. In the process of writing this I saw more and more from other people (I will link an interesting reddit post at the end). I have included some, but I think I’d rather this just add to the conversation than be in any way an attempt to make a ‘definitive’ post about the Grey.
Zaun: Context:
First, a brief summary of what is happening in Zaun when the strike team enters to provide context.
Jinx puts it best- ‘it’s all going to shit.’ Fighting has broken out amongst the chem-barons now vying for power in the vacuum Silco has left. The ‘Sucker’ sequence shows fighting on the streets, fires breaking out. Children like Isha are running from the chem-barons’ goons, part of the child labour they employ in the shimmer factories. The Firelights are bringing people to their safe haven because of all the fighting. Deaths are referenced in a meeting with the chem-barons organised by Sevika.
Sevika calls these ‘turf wars.’ I have inferred that different chem-barons control different areas of the city- ‘you started this dance when you raided the Rapturewalk.’ Innocents are getting hurt because the conflict is in the city itself.
(I will discuss Jinx later)
What is the Grey?
There is actually a lot of grey area when it comes to the Grey in the specifics. But we do know:
Air in the fissures became increasingly toxic owing to the rise of industry, this toxic air became known as the Grey
This can lead to negative physical effects- reddened eyes, irritation of the lungs; long periods of exposure can lead to the deterioration of the affected areas
Kirammans installed ventilation systems to prevent the air from being so polluted
We do not know whose industry created such pollution. We do not see anyone die as a direct result of the Grey, but clearly, ‘factory smog’ is not a healthy thing to be breathing in over long periods of time.
How do the strike team use the Grey?
The strike team have three key objectives:
Locate Jinx
Dismantle shimmer
Neutralise any agents still loyal to Silco
The Grey is used by them to target these three objectives. We are shown this both in episode 2 and through the ‘Hellfire’ sequence in episode 3. They deploy the Grey on Silco’s goons, then the chembarons’ bases and the shimmer factory (destroying amounts of shimmer), before seeking out Jinx in the arcade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To an extent, their actions could actually benefit Zaun. Destroying shimmer, something which stems from the damage Cait and Vi see shimmer cause, because of Silco and Singed, during season 1, would be to destabilise the power struggle going on between the chem-barons causing violence on the streets.
The literal use of the grey does de-escalate the violence. When chembaron Smeech reaches chembaron Margot’s base (a big statue of her face- someone’s got power), he comments that the Grey has ‘cleared the place out. Might have made our jobs a lot easier.’ They were anticipating confrontation, but it has been prevented.
The use of the Grey is not a long-term nor Zaun-wide affair. The strike team moves from one spot to another (using the vents to do so, something you could argue allows them an element of surprise on their targets which prevents them from fleeing to a place where innocents might be put in direct danger, and also prevents alarm among people at the sight of the strike team in Zaun), targeting the chembarons and their lackeys who monopolised the streets of Zaun for their violence and shimmer trade.
The Grey seeps from Margot’s base but the street itself is not flooded. As the strike team enter the arcade the Grey seeps in, but when Jinx escapes afterwards, the street outside is clear.
The Grey is used as part of a mission targeting specific objectives to prevent a full-scale invasion which could put civilians in danger.
And yet, the Grey is used. It functions as a weapon to debilitate their targets. It has unpleasant side effects, which alongside the strike team’s use of violence with their Hextech weaponry, allow them to incapacitate their targets.
(We can’t be sure how long the Grey takes to dissipate, or how long the chembarons’ people are exposed- we see some of the same characters at Sevika’s rally in episode 4, and they appear physically fine; I interpret it as short bursts of exposure- Caitlyn has control over the stopping and starting of the fans in the vents- we see her pulling levers, twisting handles).
The framing invites us to consider this morally grey approach through comparing and contrasting the strike team’s use of the Grey to its historical precedent in Zaun.
The Kiramman archive illustrations present it as a monster, a billowing mass which swallows Zaun. Through the eyes of both Jinx and Heenot, Smeech’s lackey, it also appears as such, as do the strike team who emerge from it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This emphasises its harmful potential, which comes, more crucially, from the fear it derives. Vi argues with Jinx that they used the Grey to ‘clear the streets. To keep people safe.’ The violence has been de-escalated, there are no civilians being directly harmed by the Grey, but it has based itself on this fear owing to the historical precedent of the Grey in Zaun.
And yet you can also contrast. That the strike team are presented as part of the monster suggests they control the dissemination of the Grey, contrasting with the swamping monster, out of control, which floods through all of Zaun in the historical images.
A frame of Silco’s goons running from the strike team and their cloud of Grey is immediately followed by an historical image of innocents Zaunites running from a billowing beast. We are seeing once again the historical precedent of fear, but we are also noticing the differences- the Grey is controlled by the strike team, it follows them, and the only people in the frame are Silco’s goons, no innocent civilians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Once again, we don’t know how far it could spread but as others have suggested, the thick air of the undercity could impede its progress, and it never makes it down to the Firelight base. Combined with the targeted use, I think it is fair to therefore make this contrast).
All of this illustrates my earlier argument- the Grey is indicative of the situation in which it is used. The objectives of the strike team which could benefit Zaun intertwine with a way of going about those objectives which is morally grey and therefore underlines how the characters and their choices are becoming enveloped into the historic cycles of tension and violence which exist between Piltover and Zaun.
This neither makes them good nor evil- they are morally grey. It represents their interactions with their wider context, how they are influenced and influencing the wider context.
It represents how Caitlyn is doing this, how she is morally grey.
So why does she make this choice? What is influencing her which makes the good objectives of the strike team tainted so grey?
Caitlyn- Why choose the Grey?
Tumblr media
‘Can I do the right thing for the wrong reasons? Is it bad that I’m making friends with my demons?’ - 'Hellfire'
What is key for me about the Grey in the narrative is how it symbolises Caitlyn’s emotions, her mental state. The Grey is a pollutant, and how its smog affects the physical body is a reflection of how Caitlyn’s emotions are affecting her mentally, and therefore how she in turn interacts with the wider context.
As I said earlier, the memorial attack exacerbates her anger, which is in turn exacerbated by her grief, her guilt, and the pressure of the Kiramman name.
As the strike team conduct their mission, we see how Caitlyn’s negative emotions influence her choices and cloud her self-perception, as well as her perception of others. This, for me, is why the Grey is the weapon of choice within the narrative.
There are literal considerations you could take into account as to the why, and I’ve sort of explored these in the how- preferable to full-scale invasion, vents allow for targeted use, short-span use non-fatal etc. But for me the symbolic nature of the Grey reflecting Caitlyn’s emotions, and crucially how these push her to make morally grey decisions, is what defines the why- the above lyrics to ‘Hellfire’ encapsulates this nicely.
So, what is the ‘wrong reason’?
Vengeance:
Vengeance. That is what Caitlyn wants. Vengeance against Jinx.
It is born, crucially, from her grief, her guilt. It stokes her anger and soon becomes an all-encompassing smog which clouds Caitlyn’s thinking.
Jinx remains the spectre of Caitlyn’s fantasy as the strike team carry out their mission. She appears as a silhouette in the vents. She taunts them in the arcade with the shooting game. Caitlyn hyperventilates before taking a shot at a figure which mirrors her earlier fantasy in her hideaway. The impact frame of her eyes is pretty disturbing, evocative of how twisted Caitlyn’s mental state is becoming the longer Jinx remains elusive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She becomes increasingly aggressive as their hunt continues. She shoves wanted posters in the chembarons’ people’s faces. She is cold and threatening with Heenot. And the ‘Hellfire’ sequence makes clear just how vengeance is twisting her as she appears a figure tinted red, eyes fiery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caitlyn is losing sight of herself. Losing sight of the wider context. This is affecting how she treats others.
Recall her conversation with Jayce in the hideaway, his alarm at her anger. ‘I know,’ she acknowledges, and confesses, ‘I just understand now how easy it is to hate them,’ she admits. The attack on the council has made bolder the line of divide cycles of violence bring- ‘them’- but Caitlyn is hanging onto her self-perception.
But the memorial attack changes things. ‘Animals,’ she calls the attackers. This dehumanising word demonstrates how much Caitlyn is losing sight of herself. Her empathy, her prior reluctance to see any difference, on a human level, between Piltover and Zaun (hiding in Vi’s childhood home in season 1 she says, ‘we’re people, just like you’).
Losing sight of the humanity in others means Caitlyn is also losing sight of herself. Her own humanity. And, if the Grey is depicted as a monster, and the monster is reflecting Caitlyn (and under her control), this says a lot about how vengeance is twisting her thinking, suffocating her person, and causing her to contribute to cycles which divide and hurt.
Tumblr media
‘Leader of House Kiramman’:
This ‘losing’ of identity can be reflected further, I think, in how Caitlyn’s personal motives define her using the Kiramman name, her first taking up the mantle.
She utilises the power of her family name to assert her choices over the council. Once again, it is important to consider that this does prevent the full-scale invasion, but I think it is fair to argue Caitlyn is also being influenced by her need for vengeance. The Kiramman name is tool, a key, which can get her what she wants.
And I think it is interesting to consider how her reversing the helpful intentions of her ancestors in installing the vents, utilising the Grey instead of dispelling it, represents both Caitlyn losing sight of herself and her prior issues with her family name.
‘I know you doubt the merit of your birthright, Caitlyn,’ Cassandra says. In season 1, we see her resisting the stifling confines of what her mother expects and wants for her. She is a misfit.
After Cassandra’s death, the pressure of the name Caitlyn does not even want bears down on her, along with the guilt of perceiving herself as complicit in her mother’s death.
And Caitlyn struggles under this weight until the Kiramman name is twisted, too, into a tool not dissimilar to the Grey. She is not yet ready for the responsibility and how such power and privilege affect both Piltover and Zaun. It is her ‘legacy,’ but Caitlyn is losing herself.
This is even more impactful when considering that many of Caitlyn’s issues and arguments with her mother derive from her being a reluctant and unwilling heir. The Kiramman name came between them in life, and in death is twisted, as Caitlyn’s grief and love for her mother become twisted themselves by vengeance.
There is irony in learning the Kirammans helped the undercity with the vents, something altruistic similar to Caitlyn’s own values when she is not choking on grief and vengeance. But the placing of the crown on her head happens at the hands of tragedy, and it rests twistedly for now.
The Grey becomes Black and White:
This is all key in why I think the Grey, what it represents, and how it is used, act as a prelude to the culmination of Act 1- Caitlyn’s appointment as commander.
Ambessa is impressed with Caitlyn’s assertion in the bunker, observant of her grief (and Salo’s) after the council attack, and perceptive of the power of the Kiramman name. As Salo says, ‘it bewitches people.’
By the end of Act 1, Caitlyn has failed to capture Jinx and left Vi after feeling betrayed by her for stopping her from shooting Jinx, therefore endangering Isha. By this point, I think there is no stopping the sliding slope into the black and white brooding figure of vengeance we see in the ‘Paint the Town Blue’ sequence.
She is choking on her emotions, and with Vi, her anchor, gone, is ripe for Ambessa’s picking. Caitlyn needs direction and Ambessa is offering it to her. She promises Caitlyn the thing which has slowly consumed her over the course of Act 1- vengeance. She steps further down this course.
Thus, grey turns to black and white. Caitlyn becomes complicit in, is the face of, the Piltover/Noxian occupation of Zaun, the violence this brings. Caitlyn has lost sight of herself in her hunt for Jinx and therefore others are harmed for her purposes (and Ambessa’s).
Tumblr media
Caitlyn comes back to herself, slowly (from episode 4 we see her grappling her position), although of course, remains permanently changed (it’s interesting how the vengeance and idea of either doing the ‘wrong thing for the right reason’ or 'right thing for the wrong reason’ follow on in act 2 but that’s not my focus here).
Jinx and the Retaliation:
I think Jinx’s retaliation to the strike team’s mission and their use of the Grey underlines how its moral greyness feeds into the cycles of violence (I’m only going to analyse here her actions in relation to Caitlyn’s- this is already way too long and she deserves her own post).
Jinx is, like Caitlyn, motivated by her emotions, particularly related to Vi and her upset at seeing her as part of the strike team. She tells Sevika she is going to ‘finish what’s left of her family’ after their fight with Smeech, referring to their confrontation in the Temple of Janna.
She retaliates against the strike team to do so- setting trigger explosives in the vents, hanging vivisected dolls of them from a propellor she ties Heenot to in the first step of luring them down to the temple.
He says, ‘Jinx is off the rails, even for her. She’s got a real fire lit under her ass. She’s planning something big, right here in the pipeworks. She was heading towards the old tunnels. Something about rerouting the vents.’
Jinx begins using the Grey against the strike team. She breaks a pipe and, along with arrows, uses it to lead them to the temple. And, most significantly, at the conclusion of the fight, Sevika triggers explosives which puts Jinx’s ‘big’ plan into action. The rerouted vents drive the Grey up into Piltover, where it explodes in great plumes which flood streets and paint the town in a multicolour splash.
Tumblr media
The cycles of violence have continued. Caitlyn wanted vengeance on Jinx, but Jinx has retaliated right back. In light of the ways in which Caitlyn and Jinx parallel each other near constantly throughout ‘Arcane’ (especially in season 2), I think this is suggestive of the futile nature of vengeance.
‘An eye for an eye,’ and you lose sight of yourself. Caitlyn’s hideaway is blasted with the Grey, the wind chime feature which had represented her feelings in episode 1 broken. There is no more space in herself, at this time, to piece apart her thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the attack on Piltover allows Ambessa to consolidate her position as Piltover’s saviour and assert her will.
There is so much more you could say about Jinx and Caitlyn, especially because of how they parallel each other constantly throughout the show (how their uses of the Grey contribute to them becoming symbols of something of which they are doubtful is really fascinating to me), but for the purposes of this deep dive on the Grey, I hope this suffices.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
The conflict which so much defines the shared history of Piltover and Zaun is growing steadily more volatile during act 1, and it is interesting to piece apart how characters impact upon this- there are good intentions in the strike team’s mission, but these are inseparable from the morally grey means through which they go about it.
Means influenced by emotions which have grown from the prior continuance of the cycles of violence. ‘Arcane’ is a tragedy, and there is certainly tragedy in watching Caitlyn be so changed by events.
The Grey is a reflection, a symbolic representation, of how Caitlyn changes throughout Act 1. How she is influenced by and influences other characters, and the impact this all has on the wider context. The morally grey path she goes down in her quest for vengeance.
By act 3, we see her having realised the error of her ways, knowing what she has done cannot be erased, but willing to fight against cycles of violence, walk away from her vengeance, and ‘trust in tomorrow.’
But in the smog of the conflict, everything seems grey.
I hope this exploration of the symbolism of the Grey was interesting. If you’ve reached the end of this, thank you so much for reading- I realise it is really long. I’m just very much fascinated with this show, so… I appreciate it!

An undeniable sensation pooled in the apex below your abdomen, causing your eyelids to flutter slowly open from your slumber. Your brows drew firmly together as your mouth gaped wildly open, releasing silent sounds of pleasured expression. But you were forced by the consuming reality in your brain to push the face that rested against your thighs, and the heavenly lips that had already landscaped the area of your cunt in prior situations.
Daryl hadn’t fallen asleep beside you, he had sullenly returned to his poisonous putridity of his home the eve before, dreading his father’s exploitive rage. As much as you wanted to continue receiving the fantastic oral that he was perfectly tainting your body with, you were commended by your saint lifestyle to shuffle away, rejecting his efforts of keeping his face attached to your most intimate area.
“D.” You addressed him by the initial, reaching beside you to pull at the dangling string of your bedside lamp so that the bulb would create an ambience that would aid your eyesight, rather than squinting in his direction through the consuming darkness. Daryl melted his face in the tousled sheets that rested raggedly beside your legs, chewing anxiously on his bottom lip.
He just wanted to see you, and get lost in one of his all time hobbies so that he wouldn’t need to bring acknowledgment to the repetitive reason as to why he had snuck in your home with the key that you had gifted him in the dead of night. “Daryl… look at me honey.” With concern filled empathy, you combed through his brunette locks with your fingers, squeezing your thighs together so that he wouldn’t be able to visualise his sacred escape for the moment.
This was important, far more important than any sexual activity. It took him a couple of minutes to finally build up the strength to comply with your soft demand; you weren’t forcing him, he was well aware of that fact, however he resented skulking away from your embracing and delicate nurturing, and thus he drew his face upwards, his blue and bruised eyes connecting with your orbs that unfortunately did not hold shock.
His father was sadistically cruel, he never let up on a chance to unleash his pent up frustrations and anger out on his sons, it was why Merle had joined the military - to escape the man that had raised them without any aspect of love. It didn’t matter that you were half nude due to his skilful appearance, you shuffled down the bed towards him, crossing your legs as you brushed your fingertips across his shoulder that was clothed in a shirt made of tired fabric, and he restrained a wince.
“Oh honey.” You cooed, seeing a horizon of purples and blues and deepening greys that harshened his features. “You can stay here, for as long as you need. I’d hate for you to keep going back there, so…” You braced yourself to say the words aloud, aware that Daryl was a young man whom was easily shaken. “Why don’t you move in?” You would never hurt him, emotionally or physically, no matter what situation that you found yourselves in.
Your blood boiled like there was a stove interlinking your veins to your arteries as you thought of any man bringing such abuse upon their child, but especially horrid old William and his treatment of Daryl. The bruised son’s lips conveyed his emotions in a wobbling manner, as he allowed his well constructed walls to lower, and water glazed in his eyes. He held you, and sobbed, and sobbed, until he was all out of frustrated tears, and you knew then, he would be using that silver key every day.

CREATING AUTHENTIC DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING CHARACTERS: A WRITER'S JOURNAL
Introduction
Creating authentic characters in your writing is essential for engaging storytelling, and this includes characters who are deaf or hard of hearing. To craft a character that accurately represents this community, it's crucial to do your research, gain a deep understanding of their experiences, and portray them with sensitivity and respect. In this journal, we'll explore how to write a deaf or hard-of-hearing character, including key information and preparation steps.
Understanding Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Characters
Research: Start by researching deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals' experiences, challenges, and culture. Read books, articles, and personal stories, and watch documentaries or interviews featuring members of the Deaf community.
Consult with Experts: Reach out to members of the Deaf community or experts in Deaf studies to gain insights into their experiences. They can provide invaluable guidance and help you avoid common misconceptions.
Diversity Within the Community: Understand that the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities are diverse. Some individuals communicate using sign language, while others rely on lip-reading, cochlear implants, or hearing aids. Be aware of these differences when creating your character.
Character Development
Backstory and Identity: Consider your character's background. Were they born deaf, or did they become deaf later in life? How do they identify within the Deaf community? Understanding their identity and experiences will shape their character.
Language and Communication: Decide how your character communicates. Are they fluent in sign language, or do they primarily rely on lip-reading and spoken language? Their communication style will influence their interactions with other characters.
Cultural Awareness: Explore the cultural aspects of the Deaf community. Understand the importance of Deaf culture, including its history, art, and values. Incorporate these elements into your character's life when relevant.
Writing Tips
Dialogue and Communication: When writing dialogue for a deaf or hard-of-hearing character, be mindful of their unique communication style. Use visual cues, body language, and facial expressions to convey emotions and context.
Access to Information: Consider the challenges your character may face in accessing information. This could involve issues with closed captioning, subtitles, or accommodations in educational or work settings.
Social Interactions: Depict social interactions realistically. Show how your character navigates conversations, group dynamics, and social events within their community and with hearing individuals.
Preparation
Sensitivity Readers: Consider hiring sensitivity readers who are part of the Deaf or hard-of-hearing community to review your work and provide feedback. Their insights can help you avoid stereotypes and inaccuracies.
Learn Sign Language: If your character uses sign language, take the time to learn at least basic signs. This will not only enrich your writing but also demonstrate your commitment to accuracy.
Beta Readers: Seek feedback from a diverse group of beta readers who can assess the authenticity of your character and offer constructive criticism.
Engage with the Community: Attend Deaf community events, workshops, or online forums to immerse yourself in the culture and better understand the perspectives and experiences of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
Creating a deaf or hard-of-hearing character that resonates with readers requires dedication, empathy, and thorough research. By following these steps and embracing the rich culture and diversity of the Deaf community, you can create a character that is not only authentic but also promotes understanding and inclusivity in your writing. In addition, when writing dialogue for your deaf or hard-of-hearing character, remember:
It's important to clarify why, when writing dialogue for a deaf character, you should continue to use structured English grammar and not sign language structured grammar.
Maintaining Structured English Grammar:
Readability: Writing in structured English grammar ensures that the text remains accessible and comprehensible to all readers, including those who may not be familiar with sign language or Deaf culture. It avoids potential confusion that could arise from using sign language grammar in written text.
Universal Understanding: English is a global language, and adhering to its grammar rules allows for a wider audience to understand and engage with your story. Sign language grammar varies between different sign languages, making it less universally applicable in written form.
Respect for the Medium: While sign language is a rich and expressive mode of communication, it is primarily a visual and gestural language. Attempting to replicate sign language grammar in written text can be cumbersome and may not fully capture the nuances of sign language communication.
Balance of Realism and Readability: Striking a balance between authenticity and readability is crucial in storytelling. Maintaining structured English grammar while depicting a deaf character's interactions helps convey the character's experience without compromising the reader's ability to follow the narrative.
As an illustration, consider the following text: Dialogues with Descriptive Sign Language:
Sarah greeted John with a warm smile, her hands moving gracefully as she signed, "Hi, how are you?"
John returned the greeting in sign language, his expressions mirroring his words. "I'm good, thanks. Did you see the new movie?"
Sarah's eyes lit up as she signed back enthusiastically, "Yes, I loved it!"
In summary, using structured English grammar when writing dialogue for a deaf character is a practical and respectful choice that ensures your writing remains inclusive and accessible to a broad audience while still authentically representing the character's identity and experiences.
Furthermore, it's essential to avoid creating a character who is overly perfect or one-dimensional. In real life, we understand that everyone has imperfections and complexities, regardless of whether they are deaf or hard of hearing. Therefore, it's entirely acceptable to depict your character as a villain with a hearing issue if that aligns with your storytelling goals.

Pluto generations
Aries (1823 - 1851)
The presence of Pluto in Aries defines a generation marked by a pioneering and assertive spirit, reflecting a profound longing for independence. Those influenced by this placement often take on key roles in instigating social change and revolutionizing established systems. Historical events from 1823 to 1852, such as the Wars for Latin American Independence, the First Opium War, and the Women's Rights Convention, exemplify the transformative impact of this astrological configuration.
Taurus (1852 - 1881)
Pluto's position in Taurus defines a generation characterized by unwavering perseverance, determination, and a profound connection to the material realm. These individuals prioritize stability, security, and the sustainable use of resources, leaving a lasting imprint on economic systems and environmental consciousness. Notably, during Pluto's transit in Taurus, the Industrial Revolution surged forward, marked by the rise of corporate structures in industries like railroads and steam engines.
Gemini (1882 – 1913)
The generation under the influence of Pluto in Gemini witnessed the dawn of the Second Industrial Revolution, aptly named the Technological Revolution. These individuals, marked by intellectual curiosity and adaptability, excelled in communication and media, significantly shaping cultural and technological progress. The era marked the birth of influential figures like John Maynard Keynes and Benito Mussolini, along with German scientist Robert Koch's identification of the tuberculosis bacterium. Notably, the First World War occurred during this period, bringing significant changes in all areas of life.
Cancer (1914 -1938)
Pluto in Cancer signifies a generation characterized by deep emotional sensitivity, nurturing instincts, and strong family values. Living through World War I, the Spanish flu pandemic, and the Great Depression, they grew up in a challenging era that shaped their conservative outlook. This generation, often referred to as the "Greatest Generation," prioritized family, spirituality, and adherence to societal norms. While their emphasis on politeness and chivalry had positive aspects, it also gave rise to dark elements such as sexist gender roles, racial segregation, and cultural supremacy.
Leo (1939 – 1958)
Pluto in Leo defines a generation marked by a quest for self-expression, creativity, and a hunger for recognition. Born during historical events like the Nazi invasion of Poland and the Battle of Stalingrad, these individuals challenged authority, imprinting their influence on art, entertainment, and leadership styles. Ruled by the Sun, Pluto in Leo symbolizes a fresh start after periods of war and chaos, fostering a sense of self-value and confidence. This prideful, generous, and naturally leadership-oriented generation, however, tends to resist change and stands firm in their philosophies as a fixed sign.
Virgo (1957 – 1971)
Pluto in Virgo defines a generation marked by a robust work ethic, practicality, and an innate drive for perfection. Born during pivotal events such as the first documented AIDS cases and Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, these individuals contribute to societal shifts in health, wellness, and environmental consciousness. Ruled by Mercury, Pluto in Virgo emphasizes efficiency and hard work, fostering reliability, trustworthiness, and empathy. This generation focuses on rebuilding and technology, epitomizing an era of research and preparation, notably during the Cold War.
Libra (1972 – 1983)
Pluto in Libra defines a generation marked by a profound yearning for harmony, justice, and equality. With Venusian qualities, these individuals are inherently social, compassionate, and value connections with others. The events during their time, such as the end of the Vietnam War, the introduction of VHS, and the rise of personal computers, align with their commitment to justice and duty for the collective. This generation, while not necessarily seeking radical societal reshaping, is more focused on preserving law and order, offering assistance to those in need, and rectifying wrongs through the pursuit of justice.
Scorpio (1984 – 1995)
Pluto in Scorpio defines a generation marked by intensity, depth, and profound transformation, playing a pivotal role in societal shifts related to power dynamics, sexuality, and psychological exploration. While the preceding Pluto in Libra generation advocated for balance, Pluto in Scorpio pushed the limits, ushering in events like the Gulf War, the end of the Cold War, and the advent of the World Wide Web. Resilient and empowered, they navigated constant transformations, developing a keen ability to adapt and thrive through each metamorphosis. This generation also contributed to a shifting cultural perspective on sexuality.
Sagittarius (1996 – 2008)
Pluto in Sagittarius shapes a generation marked by a thirst for knowledge, cultural exchange, and a global perspective, contributing significantly to societal shifts in education, philosophy, and belief systems. This generation, embodies the archer's bravery and fearlessness, fostering a spirit of rebellion and outspokenness. Sagittarius' affinity for networking and socializing with individuals from various nations aligns with the rise of the internet, a tool that facilitates global connectivity. Key events during this period include the successful cloning of Dolly the sheep, the introduction of the Euro to financial markets, and the groundbreaking launch of the iPhone in 2007.
Capricorn (2008 – 2023)
Pluto in Capricorn defines a generation marked by ambition, pragmatism, and a distinct focus on challenging traditional structures, leading to transformative changes in politics, business, and governance. Ruled by Saturn, this era, encompassing events such as the launch of Bitcoin, the Syrian civil war, Edward Snowden's revelations on mass surveillance, and the COVID-19 pandemic, unfolded amidst the Great Recession and the rise of social media. The influence of Saturn instils a commitment to rules, regulations, and social changes that align with a desire for structure and order.
Aquarius (2024 – 2044)
Pluto in Aquarius heralds a generation marked by innovation, individuality, and an impassioned pursuit of freedom and social progress. The current era unfolds amid a new global order, carrying both anticipation and uncertainty. Emerging from the constraining Capricorn era, Aquarius brings a promise of hope, healing, and a future-focused mindset.
Pisces (2044 – 2067)
Pluto in Pisces gives rise to a generation marked by empathy, spirituality, and a deepening of the collective consciousness, contributing to societal shifts in compassion, art, and transcendence. As one era concludes and another begins, this period signals the resurgence of spirituality, with people connecting profoundly to the universe through meditation and prayer. Anticipated as a peaceful time with minimal conflict, technological progress may temporarily slow after the Aquarius era's boom. This wise generation is poised to challenge traditional norms, potentially leading to the disappearance of gender roles, marking a significant chapter in human evolution.

Bargaining
by Dice Anon
The first thing he notices about the place he wakes up in, is that it’s bright. Blinding, from the sharp darkness of the caverns that held his home, his people, his clan. His clan. The thought makes him sick. Oh no. He closes his eyes again, tight. The light is just– too much.
It’d been so dark in that cavern. He hadn’t thought to look behind him, hadn’t thought to attack Honeysong, hadn’t thought to—
He’d not thought anything through. The stars are making his head spin, the clear air starting to choke his brain tight with emotion. It feels like it’s sharpening his mind into shards, shattering them alongside his clarity. He doesn’t know if…
Gentledawn. Rookfeather. It was meant to be a simple ceremony, to invigorate the clan and aid in their battles, war looming above them. It didn’t. His mouth turns dry, remembering their faces. Their trembling, shaking snarls. Those five demons— no, ruffians. Shadowed birds drowning in honey while flames lick at their heels, of course. That anger, that anguish. That sting in his heart.
His brother’s face comes to mind. Pale fur, parted by scars that were caused by—
He forces his eyes open, blinking the dark spots from his vision. He realizes that he’s laying on grass, chest freckled with stains of slight green. It smells of a foggy day, and that fills his throat with nostalgia, clogging his reason for a brief moment. He rises to his paws, lifting his head up into…
  Cherrystar stares him down. Fuck.
He glares at her, not moving. She doesn’t move either. Those sunshine eyes stare deep into his own heather gaze. He lets his fur bristle, tail beginning to lash. He doesn’t care anymore. All ideas of respect and illusions of grandeur have gone out the window. He doesn’t care anymore. He doesn’t care.
  He doesn’t.
  He…
“Did you really think I’d let you go and take my clan?” Her voice fills the air, and he really looks at her for the first time. She looks exhausted. Ravenstar— no, he lost his leadership. Ravenshade doesn’t have an answer for her. He doesn’t.
“You better prepare for Wolfbite’s ceremony, she’ll want the clan stable before the next Gathering.” Ravenshade knows he’s avoiding the question. He doesn’t have an answer. He doesn’t have the energy to be angry. He doesn’t have anything anymore.
Cherrystar is looking at him with a level gaze, and he knows that she understands. It’s infuriating, that look. It was so blank and unrevealing, and always made his head spin with annoyance. He can’t take anything from that expression. He can’t. He can’t, he just needs time and rest and—
He was so excited, damnit. Finchbeak, oh Finchbeak. He looks away sharply, turning his gaze to the ground as his chest constricts. He can see the roots of that damned forest beginning to cling to his paws, ready to drag him down. He takes a shaking breath and looks—
—up into the eyes of his mother. Her brilliant gray eyes, almost silver among the speckles that dot her pelt. Brilliance gleaming off her pelt in thick starlight, bouncing off his eyes in a way that makes him speechless. Tears form in his mind, unbidden.
“My little corvid, you’ve done wrong,” Her voice was a leveled calm, and Ravenshade wanted to leap into her embrace and purr all his troubles away in her arms. Just like he was a kitten. He doesn’t. “I asked for empathy and you gave me tyranny.”
Ravenshade doesn’t respond, looking back down at his paws. The dark roots begin to intertwine around each other, brushing his carpal whiskers. He wants to flinch at the sensation. His chest tightens at the idea of talking to his mother, a pumping through his veins that makes his nerves dull with comfort and his chest tighten with a need.
“All I ask for now—” He tries.
“You are in no position to make demands, Raven.” Gyoza’s voice cuts in, heavy accent filling his ears with–
  With—
“Father, I ask for protection for my kittens.” He needs to see this through. He needs to see this through. He needs Finchbeak to be okay. He needs them to be okay. He’ll never see them again; he needs them to be okay. He’ll never see them again. He’ll never—
“Raven, no tears. I ask for no tears.” Gyoza’s voice is slow and comforting, and Ravenshade realizes that he’s started to cry. He doesn’t care. He snaps his head up, and looks into his father’s eyes.
He sees himself reflected in them.
“All I ask is that they are safe,” The roots are climbing up his arms now, thirsty for those tears. It thrives off of the suffering of its inhabitants, and it feels the anguish it could have, sliding between the thick pelt of a dead tyrant into desecration itself. He tries to speak through the terror that fills his whole being.
“I ask this as your son and not as a leader. I come to you, bleeding, and ask that you gift some mercy—” The roots dig into his flesh. “—not to me, but to my children. Finchbeak’s litter is—” Blood leaks from old wounds, healed long ago. It’s almost time. “—my own and I just want their safety–!”
A root slides its way in between his jaw and teeth, and he crunches down hard on it as he attempts to speak, hissing in pain. It comes out garbled, sliding between each bone harshly, stinging his gums. The taste of iron fills his mouth, and he stares into his father’s eyes, pleading and begging.
The world fades away as soon as he sees his father nod.

I feel deeply uncomfortable seeing how misunderstood Mike is—not just by the general audience but especially by some fans within the "Byler" fandom, who are supposed to be the ones who understand him best. They are incredibly harsh toward him, wishing for his death, for him to be beaten and humiliated, all because of his behavior in the last two seasons, particularly towards El and Will. This is largely due to his repressed homosexuality and internalized homophobia, but also because of his mental health, which is, in reality, utterly miserable yet so widely ignored.
These Byler fans, many of whom are teenagers or in their early twenties and some even part of the LGBTQ+ community, show little to no empathy towards him. They fail to realize the level of violence that existed against homosexuals in the United States during the 1980s, amidst the AIDS crisis and under Reagan's presidency. I strongly encourage you to conduct in-depth research because it is evident that you vastly underestimate the extent of the widespread, normalized, and, most importantly, violent homophobia of that era. Even people who could have been open-minded were wary of gay individuals out of fear of contracting AIDS, fueled by widespread paranoia and mass hysteria.
I believe Season 1 already paints a clear picture of this atmosphere—through Joyce’s words about how Lonnie referred to Will and through the slurs Troy and his friend used at school. These lines and characters were not included merely for storytelling purposes; they subtly highlight the pervasive homophobia present in the town (and the country) at the time.
Countless gay individuals of all ages in that period preferred to reject the mere idea of being homosexual—along with their own feelings—and would even become homophobic aggressors themselves as a form of self-preservation. At that point, it was pure survival instinct. To avoid being bitten, you bite first.
Now, let’s remove the supernatural trauma from Mike’s context and consider his reality:
We have a child who has been bullied throughout his school years in a small American town during the 1980s, a time when the AIDS crisis was at its peak. His best friend is bullied for appearing/being gay. When Will goes missing, the town—including his own father—suggests that it was expected because he was gay. The only plausible explanations, according to them, were either:
He was kidnapped and murdered by a “queer” (and let’s not forget “sexually assaulted” because one of the most dangerous stereotypes about gay men at the time was that they were pedophiles).
He committed suicide by jumping off the quarry because he was gay.
Everything related to being gay at the time was synonymous with death—whether from AIDS, suicide, or murder for simply being gay. And this violence, hatred, and fear were widely accepted and validated by society.
Now, imagine placing all of these subtle yet deeply ingrained messages inside the mind of a 12-year-old child.
On top of that, Mike’s emotions have always been ignored or minimized by everyone in the series, especially by his parents (even if they mean well). So what do we have? A traumatized child who has been humiliated and relentlessly bullied all his life, who has been made to understand that expressing his emotions and feelings is pointless, that no one listens to him, and that he should stay silent.
Even from the beginning of the series, Mike has always had a bit of an "attitude"—which, when he was younger, was endearing to the audience. But that’s mainly because he is extremely sensitive and deeply caring, yet he struggles to express himself and be heard, as most people don’t listen to him—especially when it comes to his own emotions and feelings. So what does he do? He bottles everything up. He internalizes every emotion until the pressure builds to the point where he explodes—just like in Season 2 when he lashed out at Hopper after being emotionally exhausted and pushed to his limit upon learning that El had been alive the whole time without his knowledge.
Mike’s situation is incredibly complex, with countless factors influencing it: his repressed homosexuality, his internalized homophobia, survivor’s guilt after El saved him, guilt over hurting both El and Will, his complete lack of self-esteem, his unresolved trauma from being bullied, supernatural traumas, the quarry scene (he was suicidal at 12—I repeat this because it still doesn’t seem clear to many people), his fear of losing Will or El again, the massacre at the lab where Bob never returned… I could list dozens of examples.
But do you realize the sheer emotional and traumatic weight he has never "unpacked"?
The only reason people are so harsh on him is that, for the past two seasons, we have had zero insight into Mike’s perspective. We have no access to his thoughts, emotions, or inner world. All we can do is observe him closely, piece together what we know about him since Season 1, and logically connect his behaviors, facial expressions, and words.
But here’s what’s truly baffling: these Byler fans who are so cruel to Mike are supposed to already know everything I’ve just explained. They should understand it. Yet, despite this, they show a complete lack of empathy for him. It’s as if, to them, Mike isn’t allowed to make any mistakes.
Yes, his behavior is frustrating. Yes, he has made mistakes. Yes, he has said hurtful things. But isn’t that what being human is? It doesn’t change the fact that he has always been a kind-hearted person with a huge capacity for love.
I mean, if we’re really going to judge a character’s worth based on their mistakes, should we condemn El for making Max fall over out of childish jealousy in Season 2? Should we blame her for violating Mike and the boys’ privacy by spying on them? Should we hold it against her for outright denying and dismissing Mike’s pain when he said, “I’ve been bullied my whole life,” and she simply replied, “No, you don’t”?
Of course not. We acknowledge that those actions were wrong, but we understand the context and underlying reasons behind them. So why is there such a glaring lack of understanding when it comes to Mike?
Yes, his behavior is frustrating, but ask yourself—would you do any better in his situation?
I’m sorry, but I find it incredibly hypocritical that people normalize insulting and hating this character while completely ignoring the context.
Mike always apologizes to Will when he messes up, which shows that he does reflect on his actions (even if he only does this for Will). He is willing to put himself in danger—even risk his life—to save and protect those he loves. He has a massive heart. He does not deserve the sheer cruelty I see directed at him on Twitter. His actions can be criticized, but he does not deserve to be hated or insulted.
Because the reasons behind his actions in the past two seasons are, in reality, deeply tragic.
Mike is profoundly miserable, and I am convinced he is suffering from depression—especially with the clues subtly left in Season 4, which many fans have picked up on.
I sincerely hope that in Season 5, they finally reveal what Mike has been feeling all along—shedding light on the internal struggles he has been battling silently for years. Whether through Vecna or some other means, Mike needs catharsis to finally heal. He needs to suffer—not for the sake of suffering, but because it is the only way for him to face his traumas and emotions instead of repressing them.
He has been running from his own feelings, burying them so deep inside that they are eating him alive. He is reaching his breaking point.
And that is heartbreaking—not only because it speaks volumes about how poorly mental health was treated in the ‘80s (and still is today) but also because even now, the audience continues to ignore it.
Instead of blaming Mike for his behavior, ask yourself: Why is he acting this way? Why has he changed? Why does he say the things he does?
The answers confirm that, more than anything else—besides therapy and being happy with the man who loves him—Mike needs to heal. He needs to understand that he matters, that he has worth, and that his emotions are valid.
And believe me—if he felt safe enough to express them, he would.
PS : While responding to an anonymous message reacting to this post, I ended up developing even more analysis and depth on this topic as I kept writing. So, consider this post as part 1, and feel free to check out part 2 here, which is even more detailed (and which I’m proud of and spent hours writing, haha).

Random hcs in no particular order:
- Everyone in wxs is autistic
- Bpd Shinonomes
- Saki uses a cane or a different mobility aid (depending on how bad) on flare up days, has POTS, used a wheelchair for awhile after getting out of the hospital due to being weak physically
- Mafuyu has low empathy
- Toya has arfid and struggles with reading faces/body language and tones pretty badly (autism)
- Trans Ena and Akito: they switched names and helped each other with shopping for new clothes
- Bigender Tsukasa, uses any pronouns, trying to grow out hair too
- Kohane likes to do An’s nails and eventually started doing Toya and Akitos
- Emu has high empathy, which leaves her overwhelmed sometimes
- Akito is in denial about having adhd
- Agender Toya, doesnt care much abt his gender and doesnt care how ppl see or refer to him, likes long skirts
(🪼 for any if u would like)
-🦇
Take one look at that group of clowns and tell me their neurons aren’t at least a little divergent.
HEAVY believer of this one, always one of the first things I mention when someone asks me about my hcs
I drew Saki with crutches once and I think it gave me a whole new perspective. I love seeing people interpret her with mobility aids, she would absolutely put stickers on them when she can
YES. This one feels canon
Touya has expressed that he tends to struggle with tone and understanding people, and his parents haven’t thought at least ONCE that maybe “hey, maybe our kids neurons are divergent”
I see this a lot with the Tenma’s, I’m so glad to see that it has spread to the Shinonomes (<- heavy transman Akito headcanoner)
Tsukasa is my favorite gender. I genuinely struggle with settling on a gender hc for Kasa because that creature is so girl yet so boy. You take one look at him and you’re flash banged with gender. LONG HAIRED TSUKASA. I always draw him with long hair, you get it
THIS IS SO CUTE. They all have matching nails. I’ve always imagined Kohane to have really nice nails for some reason
OH I LOVE THIS. Ive always seen her as the type of person to be like “If you cry, I’ll cry!” and I like the thought of it leaving her overwhelmed. Because, obviously she’s gonna have her limits with how much emotions she goes through in a day. Which is a lot.
ADHD Akito is canon he came to me in a vision and whispered it in my ear
Gender lacking Touya truthers, we rejoice🔥 (<- Nonbinary Touya liker here) AND THE SKIRTS. OH MY/pos

Connection-based spirits are rare entities in the Fade that embody the positive, nurturing aspects of emotional connection, empathy, and care. Unlike more intellectual or chaotic spirits, these spirits focus on fostering bonds and emotional healing, acting as guides and comforters to both mortals and other spirits. They symbolize the ideals of kindness, selflessness, and love in its many forms.
Spirits: Benevolence, Compassion, Kindness, Love, Eulogy (coming soon), Joy (coming soon), Comfort (coming soon)
Note: There is very little information about Love-Based Spirits in the DA lore. Below are theories surmised from the lore, not necessarily confirmed as canon.
Tumblr media
Essence: A Spirit of Benevolence reflects active kindness and goodwill, particularly in deliberate, purposeful acts of charity or altruism. It thrives in situations where aid is freely given and seeks to foster selflessness in others.
Behavior: These spirits are proactive, often appearing to encourage mortals to act for the good of others. They thrive in dreams or Fade constructs tied to acts of heroism, service, or sacrifice.
Interactions with Mortals: A Spirit of Benevolence might inspire mortals to perform acts of kindness, offering subtle guidance or visions that nudge them toward helping others.
Potential Danger: If corrupted, a Spirit of Benevolence can become a Pride Demon, twisted by the belief that its acts of charity make it superior to others or that its way is the only correct one.
Tumblr media
Essence: A Spirit of Compassion embodies empathy and the deep care for others' well-being, both physical and emotional. It exists to ease suffering and to support those in pain.
Behavior: These spirits are gentle and attentive, drawn to places or individuals experiencing grief, loss, or emotional turmoil. They are often calm presences that offer solace and healing.
Interactions with Mortals: A Spirit of Compassion is most likely to interact with healers, caretakers, or those who bear emotional wounds. It may subtly guide their actions or directly intervene in dreams to provide comfort.
Potential Danger: When corrupted, a Spirit of Compassion can become a Desire Demon, its care transforming into obsession or possessiveness, seeking to control those it once wished to help.
Examples of Spirits of Compassion: Cole from DAI, the Spirit of Compassion during the quest In Memoriam in Minrathous during DATV (this spirit later becomes Eulogy).
Tumblr media
Essence: A Spirit of Kindness represents gentleness and the small, meaningful acts that make others feel valued and cared for. It thrives on quiet gestures of goodwill and the everyday expressions of love and respect.
Behavior: These spirits are unassuming and subtle, often acting through whispers or impressions that encourage individuals to offer kind words, a helping hand, or a moment of understanding.
Interactions with Mortals: They may appear in dreams as fleeting, reassuring presences or encourage mortals to notice and respond to the needs of others in thoughtful, gentle ways.
Potential Danger: While difficult to corrupt, a Spirit of Kindness might become a Despair Demon if its efforts to foster goodwill are repeatedly thwarted, transforming into a being that spreads hopelessness and indifference.
Examples of Spirit of Kindness: The Seer who helped Taash when she was sick as a child told her mother that a Spirit of Kindess wanted to help. (source: Rivaini Seers and Spirits)
Tumblr media
Essence: A Spirit of Love embodies emotional connection and deep affection, including love in all its forms—romantic, familial, platonic, or even self-love. It thrives on the bonds that tie individuals together and seeks to nurture and protect those connections.
Behavior: These spirits are drawn to strong emotional relationships and places of intense devotion. They may work to strengthen bonds or heal rifts between individuals, often acting as protectors of love.
Interactions with Mortals: A Spirit of Love might appear in dreams to offer reassurance or guidance in relationships. It could also intervene subtly in the physical world, inspiring gestures of affection and reconciliation.
Potential Danger: When corrupted, a Spirit of Love can become a Desire Demon, obsessively twisting love into unhealthy attachments, jealousy, or manipulation, seeking to control or possess the object of affection.
Example of Spirit of Love: (Speculative) The Lady of the Forest in DAO might be a Spirit of Love.

Role in the Fade
Love-based spirits inhabit areas of the Fade shaped by strong emotions of care, connection, or affection. They are often found near dreamscapes associated with relationships or the memories of deeply cherished bonds. Their presence can be stabilizing and restorative, promoting harmony and mutual understanding among mortals and spirits.
Corruption and Demonic Transformation
When corrupted, love-based spirits often transform into demons driven by warped emotional extremes:
Spirit of Benevolence → Pride Demon: Twisted by self-righteousness, believing its goodness makes it superior.
Spirit of Compassion → Desire Demon: Becomes possessive, using emotional connections as tools of control.
Spirit of Kindness → Despair Demon: Its efforts to foster goodwill become overshadowed by hopelessness.
Spirit of Love → Desire Demon: Love becomes obsession, manifesting as jealousy, control, or unhealthy fixation.
Mortals’ Perspective
Mortals often view love-based spirits with reverence and hope, particularly those who are sensitive to the Fade or in need of comfort. The Dalish may interpret these spirits as messengers or protectors sent by their gods, while the Chantry might see them as rare examples of benign spirits sent to guide mortals in their faith. However, fear of corruption or deception means even these spirits are approached cautiously.

Rubellite, the love stone
💟 Rubellite is a striking and rare variety of tourmaline, known for its vibrant shades of red, pink, and purplish-red. Its name is derived from the Latin word rubellus, meaning reddish. Unlike many gemstones, rubellite's color often remains consistent under different lighting conditions, a quality that sets it apart from other red or pink stones.
💟 It is found in countries like Brazil, Mozambique, Afghanistan, and Madagascar. Brazilian and African mines, in particular, have produced some of the most vibrant rubellites on the market.
💟 Rubellite is used to activate and balance the heart chakra, making it effective for emotional healing. It is believed to help release deep seated emotional wounds and traumas, promoting self love and compassion. It is thought to promote forgiveness, harmony, and emotional balance, making it a helpful aid for mending strained relationships and improving one’s capacity to give and receive love.
💟 It is believed to encourage self love, helping individuals to accept themselves and build confidence in their personal worth. It's vibrant pink-red color is often linked with romantic energy, passion, and a sense of connection. It is thought to enhance intimacy and strengthen relationships by increasing openness and affection.
💟 Rubellite’s energy is said to help overcome feelings of lethargy or apathy by increasing enthusiasm, joy, and emotional resilience. Many people use rubellite to ward off emotional fatigue or to find motivation during challenging times. It’s also sometimes used in energy work to support the body's physical health by boosting vitality and motivation, particularly in matters related to the heart and circulation.
💟 It’s bright color is often associated with creativity and personal expression. It can inspire confidence in one’s creative abilities and can be helpful for those who feel blocked creatively. Many believe rubellite can help diminish self doubt, encouraging a more positive, empowered outlook.
💟 Rubellite is sometimes used as a protective stone for shielding against emotional negativity. It is thought to help the wearer maintain a sense of inner peace in stressful situations. While primarily a heart-centered stone, rubellite is also said to have grounding properties that can anchor emotions and keep them balanced.
💟 It is believed to support spiritual growth and the realization of one’s higher purpose by encouraging open heartedness and deeper spiritual connection. It's energy is thought to bring out qualities of empathy, kindness, and compassion, helping individuals become more attuned to the needs of others.

Enjoy this sneak peek from a future chapter of stars through my fingers like grains of sand!
Cait hunched over her chamomile tea. "I don't even know how to untangle all of this," she admitted. The heat of the cup did nothing to dispel the cold that had settled into her bones.
Andreja sighed. "Nor do I. I am afraid we have reached the limits of my ability to aid you."
"You've already done so much," Cait said. "I'm not asking you for more. I just… who could I even trust with this?" She could hear the despair edging her words, despite her best efforts to shove it down. "Between the alien genome, the uncontrolled empathy, and the mysterious powers, at least one of which has people hunting me…" There was nothing humorous in her laugh. "Even if I weren't worried about my own safety, I can't put that kind of target on someone else's back."
"Captain Caitlyn," came an unexpected voice. "Perhaps I may be of assistance."
Cait blinked. "Vasco? I don't—how?" Andreja looked as bewildered as she felt.
"Barrett once programmed me with a complete psychotherapeutic suite. He believed it would be useful while we were alone in the starfield for extended periods."
Andreja stared at the speaker with an expression of horrified fascination. "I would be greatly surprised if that did not end with blood on the decks."
"The suite was active for… three… days before he instructed me to delete it." As always, Vasco had no emotion that Cait could detect, and yet somehow the robot managed to sound smug.
Andreja frowned. "But if it was deleted, how could it be of use?"
"My protocols do not allow me to immediately delete operating software. The suite was moved into inactive storage pending a formal command to delete. A command that Barrett neglected to give." Now Vasco sounded satisfied.
"So…" Cait floundered, "I could order you to restore the suite?"
"Affirmative." Vasco's voice was definite. "This would allow me to provide the necessary assistance, while fulfilling the requirements of security. I," and Cait was absolutely certain that Vasco deliberately emphasized the pronoun, "will not betray your secrets."
"I never thought you would," Cait replied, absently rubbing her temple. She felt like she was teetering on the edge of a precipice—how could she know if this was a good idea?
"I am fully aware of all factors involved in this situation," Vasco added helpfully. "In addition, I possess a unique qualification."
"What would that be?" Andreja asked warily.
"As a robot, I do not possess emotions of my own." Vasco stated. "Captain Caitlyn may therefore focus on resolving her own emotional distress fully and freely, without the additional stress of holding off another's feelings, as I cannot affect her in that way."
Cait leaned back in her chair, completely gobsmacked. "That—that is a profound argument," she murmured. "I just—"
"Do it." Andreja's voice brooked no disagreement. "You shall find no better option."
Cait could still say 'no'. She was the captain; the order had to come from her. But her thoughts were in turmoil, her judgment uncertain. She desperately wanted to curl in on herself and shut the world out forever—but no matter how seductive the impulse, she refused to simply give up. The people who depended on her (who loved her, though the thought was a knife in her heart) deserved better. And if she couldn't trust herself, she could trust them. "Vasco," she said, surprising herself with the steadiness of her voice, "restore the psychotherapeutic suite to active memory."
"Affirmative, captain." Vasco's metallic voice carried a note of approval. "I will require some time to download and install all updates. It would be advisable for you to locate an isolated area in which we can proceed with minimal interruptions. Preferably, one with no negative associations."
That ruled out about half the known universe. Cait rifled through her scattered thoughts, finally coming up with an idea. "There's a place I know on Montera Luna," she offered. "It's the middle of nowhere, and doesn't have a whole lot of hostile fauna around."
"It will be no more difficult for me to commute to Jemison from there," Andreja agreed—and just like that, it was settled.
Cait stared down at the surface of her tea, seeing only the distorted shadow of her reflection. "How—how are—" She cut herself off; she desperately wanted to know, and yet she didn't. Not when she knew how much she had hurt them.
"They are as well as can be expected." Andreja's eyes were kind. "Cora is doing well in her lessons." That didn't surprise Cait one bit. "Sam…" Andreja hesitated, then continued with the air of one choosing her words carefully. Because Cait was fragile, dammit, and she loathed herself for it. "Sam is recovering. I believe he has sought help for himself." She gave Cait an intent look. "He asks about you, every day."
Cait tried to blink away the tears that sprang, unbidden, to her eyes, knowing it was useless even as she did. She sounded so small when she asked, "Will you tell him—no." No. Some things she wouldn't leave to another's voice, no matter how trusted. "Will you take him a message?"
Andreja nodded. "Of course." She rose from her seat. "I shall leave you in peace to write." Her hand fell to Cait's shoulder in a compassionate touch before she left the hab, her stride as easy and unhurried as always.
Cait pulled over one of the ubiquitous notepads and, with an unsteady hand, started to write.
Dear Sam…

Hiya!! If requested are open can you make cg!Poe headcanons from bsd? (Bungou stray dogs) /nf
Tumblr media
•Poe is deeply empathetic and always ready to listen to others’ troubles. He often finds solace in comforting others, drawing from his own experiences to provide genuine support and understanding
•Poe’s approach to caregiving can be unconventional. He might use his knowledge of literature and poetry to craft personalized advice, blending his caregiving with elements of his literary passions
•Despite his often melancholic demeanor, Poe is highly protective of those he cares for. He’s known to go to great lengths to ensure their well-being, even if it means putting himself in danger
•Rituals and Routines : Edgar has developed certain rituals and routines that help him manage his caregiving responsibilities. These might include daily reading sessions or quiet walks to reflect and center himself before tackling the challenges of helping others
•Healing Through Art : Poe believes in the healing power of art and literature. He often encourages those he cares for to engage with creative outlets, whether through writing, painting, or other forms of artistic expression, as a means of processing their feelings
•Poe’s caregiving style is marked by a quiet strength and resilience. He may not always be overtly assertive, but his unwavering support and calm demeanor provide a steadying presence for those around him
•Poe's own personal struggles and vulnerabilities play a significant role in his caregiving. He channels his own experiences of grief and loss into a deep well of empathy, using his past to connect with and help others navigate their own difficulties
•When caring for a sick age regressor, Poe’s approach is both tender and meticulous. He creates a calming environment with soft lighting and soothing literature. He might read comforting stories aloud or offer gentle, reassuring words to make the regressor feel safe and cared for
•Poe is attentive to their needs, making sure they are physically comfortable while also providing emotional support through his compassionate presence
•With a non-verbal age regressor, Allan relies heavily on non-verbal cues and body language to understand their needs. He uses gentle gestures and expressive facial expressions to communicate, and he is very patient in his interactions.
•Poe also incorporates visual aids, like picture cards or simple sign language, to help bridge the communication gap, ensuring that the regressor feels understood and supported
•On rainy days, Poe creates a cozy atmosphere by drawing the curtains and lighting soft candles. The sound of rain becomes a soothing background, and Poe might use it as an opportunity to engage in quiet, comforting activities like reading or storytelling
•The rain's gentle patter serves as a calming influence, helping to ease any anxiety or discomfort the regressor might be feeling
•He finds the rain’s melancholy ambiance aligns perfectly with his poetic nature. He might use the soothing sound of rain as inspiration for writing or storytelling, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere that helps both him and the little one feel more at ease
•If the age regressor is throwing a tantrum, Poe remains calm and composed, understanding that the behavior often stems from frustration or distress. He approaches the situation with patience, giving the age regressor space to express their emotions while offering a comforting presence
•Poe might gently guide them to a quieter space and use soft, reassuring words or comforting gestures to help them calm down. He avoids any forceful or confrontational tactics, focusing instead on soothing and de-escalating the situation with empathy and care
•When the regressor is feeling overwhelmed, Poe’s approach is to guide them to calmer activities without pressure. He might suggest coloring, flipping through picture books, or quietly watching Karl explore the room
•He uses subtle cues to steer them towards more soothing tasks, avoiding direct confrontation or forceful intervention
•Poe’s intelligence often leads him to overthink every aspect of caregiving. He meticulously prepares, researching what activities might soothe the regressor or which books are appropriate for their current mood. This over-preparation is his way of showing care, even if he doubts himself along the way
