♰ . 𝒹opamine detox & why it’s important
⠀⠀
─── first of all what is the role of dopamine .ᐣ
dopamine acts on areas of the brain to give you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction & motivation. dopamine also has a role to play in controlling memory, mood, sleep, learning, concentration, movement & other body functions.
⠀⠀
─── what is a dopamine detox (fasting) .ᐣ
dopamine detox is a form of fasting from any activities or pleasures that produce dopamine so that drive for quick rewards decreases.
⠀⠀
─── what are the benefits of doing dopamine detox .ᐣ
𝟭 . regulates your dopamine response, so your brain can function at it’s best. when dopamine level is to high it can lead to addiction, impaired decision making & mental health problem,
𝟮 . makes you feel calmer & less anxious,
𝟯 . reduce the risk of depression that social media produces by addiction & comparing your life to other people,
𝟰 . boost your sleep quality & academic performance,
remember: benefits will always depending on the person, so do NOT compare to each other ♥︎
⠀⠀
─── what to avoid during dopamine detox .ᐣ
social media: spending endless time scrolling, liking, & commenting on social media platforms can really mess with our brains because of these little dopamine hits what keep us addicted,
gaming: especially avoid the super stimulating ones. they send our dopamine levels through the roof & make it hard to pay attention to real-life stuff,
eating junk food: high-sugar & high-fat food destroy your eating habits & body, including brain,
caffeine: it gives us that kick, but it also stimulates dopamine, which is why we gotta be mindful of our caffeine intake during a detox,
nicotine, alcohol & drugs: do i really have to explain?
watching shows: binge-watching your favorite tv shows it’s amazing way to spend time & flood your brain with too much dopamine,
⠀⠀
─── how to create a detox-friendly environment .ᐣ
𝟭 . designing a digital detox space
set up an environment that minimizes digital distractions. you can do this by creating a dedicated workspace or relaxation area where you limit or eliminate access to digital devices,
𝟮 . mindful nutrition
it’s important to choose foods that help maintain balanced dopamine levels. this might involve consuming foods rich in precursors like tyrosine (found in lean proteins), clean food & nutrients like antioxidants (found in fruits and vegetables) to support overall brain health and function,
𝟯 . engaging in low-stimulus activities
low-stimulus or low-dopamine activities are those that don't trigger excessive dopamine release. examples include meditation, gentle exercise, reading, or spending time in nature. engaging in these activities during your detox helps maintain a calmer & more focused state of mind, making it easier to resist the allure of high-dopamine behaviors & substances.
creating a detox-friendly environment is crucial to supports your efforts to reduce the impact of overstimulation on your brain's reward system. it sets the stage for a healthier lifestyle and a more balanced relationship with activities that can lead to excessive dopamine release.

This quote made me think, how do you think tastes and styles of cooking differ between the tribes? Each party member has their own style of food, but Eupha and maybe Heismay are the main ones who we could extrapolate things about their culture from.
I think that paripus food definitely uses the most spices. Rhoag food uses the least
oh im so glad at least one person asks me this i've been thinking like. too much about tribe culinary profiles lately
Tumblr media
so to start a while ago i tried to group all the principalities into their climates and ecosystems right. aside from the fact roussainte are fuckin everywhere from what we know:
oceana has a healthy fishing business and is mostly woodland, through they have a small stretch of arid land from central euchronia
central euchronia is high in desert and (presumably) arid soils, though for the purpose of sustaining grand trad let's say that south euchronia contains fertile wetland
montario is extremely mountainous and cold BUT it also has that patch of thick forest though a lot of the fauna there are like. venomous and spit fire
virga island
so when i think about the food part of their cultures i tried to keep in mind where a majority of the tribes seem to be located and how that would have impacted their culinary development, assuming that the population has been relatively consistent since the annex war. there's also their individual values to consider (VERY LONG UNDER CUT)
clemar are like, white brits, so i think assuming they have similar food to irl england is a good starting place. thanks to central euchronia having the desert climate it does however i think mostly in oceana do they have fish as part of their meals and in grand trad its mostly a delicacy. a lot of local dishes that are made up of what can be found lying around, nothing too complex, but due to the nature of where grand trad Is i think they lack a lot of real "desserts" that aren't considered a luxury (sugar is expensive)
roussaintes NEED high protein meals to sustain the amount of physical work they do, so i think meat and leafy green vegetables are a staple in most dishes. lentils, tofu (soybeans are actually really protein dense), nuts, the like. roussainte in montario probably have a lot of spice in their meals for cold weather but to also manage their appetite during military work.
rhoag are a tricky case but hear me out: i feel like a lot of their food takes after other tribes due to how long they live. it's probably customary for a rhoag to wander around a lot in all the time they have to live, so a lot of what they cook ends up influenced by all the other tribes in different ways. as for methods i imagine that they focus on recipes that don't require much physical labor (spending most of your long life in your geriatric stage probably isn't great), so a lot of soups, pan fried stuff, grilling, etc. is probably shared around.
ishkia are almost 100% spice fiends, if you're like me and assume they have bird-like traits in a lot of places they probably have much higher spice tolerance than most other tribes, in addition to their climate requiring warmer meals. a lot of farmwork is probably done down in the lush forest area because mountain farming is historically a bitch and a lot of Brain Food can't be grown in the cold. heavy "brain food" presence in casual meals (fatty fish, coffee, collard greens). a lot of roots, mushrooms, and foragables that grow in cold climates (snowpeas, watercress, acorn, etc) at high altitudes are common, though this sounds horrible bc you cant really Get them anywhere else in euchronia.
nidia because of the Everything read to me as having a high dependence on magla-rich food and stuff that grows low to the ground. a lot of root vegetables (carrots, potatoes, turnips) and berries (straw, blue, the likes) that can be infused during the growing process. lot of emphasis on eye health on that note (leafy greens, citrus, probably raise a lot of chickens for eggs in their villages). theyre very fae folk inspired to me so i imagine a lot of their delicacies are an important part of their culture (muffins, candied flowers, tarts, yknow)
paripus probably take a lot after recession foods given their status and wide-spreadedness, a lot of cheap options like rice, beans, grains, fruits and meat dried. however i also see them as having a large amount of "leftovers" or "community" foods yknow? stuff like hunters stew or bread pudding or salads, generally stuff you can make with what's left over after a big meal and you can share with other people. i think they probably have a lot of "loose" recipes with easy replacements or things you can swap out if you don't have them.
eugief society is analogous to japanese culture if you look at the architectural styles of heismay's village and his clothing so they probably have a lot that's taken from there haha. fish, savory foods, big on spices and they probably invented some form of oil frying. i imagine that the area between oceana and euchronia is heavy in rice production due to the hot and humid climate, on that note
mustari are very analogous to southeast asian/pacific islander culture! lot of rice, game, seafood, emphasis on pairing sweet with salty or savory. i imagine a lot of steamed or roasted foods. mustari that came to the capital or montario probably ended up having to mix traditional styles with the ones present there, esp due to the lack of ingredients that were only capable of being found on the archipelago (side note: here's a nice article about this stuff that i found interesting)
as for elda theyre like. they remember shit from the old world. i know this probably just means they understand how to cook meat the best and get how to properly process certain foods with what cooking material but what if will came out and showed people how to make french fries. imagine

I've been thinking about that time my mom who has hypoglycemia asked my little brother to bring her something "with carbs and protein" a few days after Thanksgiving last year. He panicked and gave her a plate of warmed rice with cold ham slices layed on top! My other brother immediately took that away and gave her a PB&J sandwich instead.
Do you think something similar would happen with your Warriors and the Chain? Who would panic and give him something he technically asked for but wasn't an actual meal/snack?
oh for sure, and honestly im sure the entire chain has done it at some point. War’s experiences are based on my own and when he goes down to the floor he looks so so awful it’s a little terrifying and having him look so pale he looks gray because all the color has drained from his face and him turning to one of the chain and going “i need food” is definitely sending a few of them into panic mode and they will bring him the first thing they find no matter WHAT it is
sometimes its hard for him to eat because hes so nauseous when his sugar gets low so something like a slice of bread, orange juice, dried fruit, whatever is good initially because it helps him tell himself “no im not sick im not going to throw up, my blood sugar is just low” so he can then convince himself to eat more, so he is not super picky about what they bring him so long as its Something. he can’t afford to be too picky when his options are whatever he was brought or passing out, and also sometimes its hard to get him stuff quickly when they’re actively traveling

I wanna get even half the chest and body that you have. I know you said you basically just did push ups so I was wondering if you had any specifics. How often? How many?
Gonna use you as inspiration lmao
hey anon! i know it sounds CRAZY simple but yeah. literally just push ups at home on your carpet or hard wood floor will DO IT. whatever you find comfortable. i think pecs are SURPRISINGLY easy to get, and gay men and straight women love a nice set of boobies on a man, they really give you that "macho" look LOL so definitely try for it. you can probably get some smol but fierce tiddies in about a year.
gonna do a [read more] so i can yap to you in full detail:
if you're a complete beginner, start with like 10 push ups, if you think that's nothing and you're not fatigued yet, do more than that, like 20. keep doing that until you can do an insane amount of push ups and then stop when you start getting tired/failure. do that daily. the more the better. you can take some rest days, on those days you can like walk or jog or something to get more lean. if you consider yourself slightly overweight, definitely walk/jog daily.
Tumblr media
and when you do push ups, make sure they're not half assed. like, when you see that skinny guy in your gym class going REALLY fast but stupidly out of form, that's probably doing nothing but injuring him LOL. go on youtube or look up an article about push ups, there are lots of evidence that prove you can get boobies with them. i learned pretty much everything from online btw, go on youtube and just look up how to get pecs at home if you're too cheap for a gym membership (like me. i don't have a gym membership)
Tumblr media
here's a random image i found on google, don't worry about any of this other stuff in the picture for now. just do regular push ups for now and you should have results. but another thing i'm leaving out is obviously you need to eat right. try to eat like 0.7-0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight. some protein rich foods you can eat are stuff like chicken/beef/pork/fish daily (with rice) or low fat greek yogurt, beef jerky, and buy some protein shakes at the store. almost anything protein tastes nasty to me btw but beauty is pain.
also some life hacks because my fat ass (and lazy ass) loves fast food/eating out in general, go to panda express and just get a bunch of chicken and broccoli LOL that shit has so much protein and it tastes good. goddamn. basically just consume meat daily for gains.
Tumblr media
also ONE more thing in terms of eating [moderately] healthy (i still don't eat healthy but i try) stop drinking soda, stop drinking alcohol, stop doing drugs, just drink nothing but water, green tea, any tea you want, just make sure it has no sugar. if you crave sugar, get diet soda like diet coke (it's 0 calories) but avoid drinking too much of that because aspartame.
THIS IS A LOT OF INFORMATION but i get asked about stuff like this a lot so hopefully this is enough. LOL. i'll get asked again probably haha but oh well. and again i'm not a fitness expert, just an enthusiast. good luck. remember anon, BEAUTY IS PAIN. and youth is only temporary, so you might as well look sexy before you get old.

Hello I hope you are having a nice day! I am planning on writing a haikyuu fanfiction where one of the characters has type 1 diabetes with celiac and epilepsy They are serious about pursuing volleyball professionally. and i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood? Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
(haikyuu anon pt2) which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s? Does pricking your fingers make them sore? Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)? could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then? Sorry for bombarding you with these questions. If anything else comes to mind please add to it! Thanks you
hi!!!
these are some wonderful questions, and i'm gonna throw a lot of info and resources at you! first, anecdotally, celiac and t1d are pretty commonly comorbidities (occuring together) bc they're both autoimmune diseases. i know a lot of people with both, including one of my best friends from when i was a kid. and i have an epileptic family member, so i'm just all around excited about your ask :D
How would he need to adjust insulin levels for practices and games? How often should he check his blood?
for t1d and sports, i recommend checking out this page on diathlete, which is all about managing blood sugar while doing (often very competetive) sports. (i am NOT a sporty person, but i DID do karate extensively for about fifteen years, and a lot of activity comes down to: checking bg often, keeping low bg supplies nearby in case, and having a lot of protein before activity to keep your blood sugar steady.
modern pumps normally have an activity mode built in, but before that, most people would manually reduce insulin before/during a game. not everyone has to do this tho.
(common snacks are PB and bananas, cheese and crackers, yogurt, etc. stuff with some carbs to go with the protein.)
(this got LONG, holy stars. putting everything from here on out under a cut)
Would seizure medication affect sugar levels? Will seizures affect sugar levels and what to do then?
for anit-epileptic meds, idk enough about them to say if they affect bg, unfortauntely. if you have specific meds in mind, i would look up common side effects on drugs.com (i promise that's a real, professional, non-shady site lol)
idk if seizures affect bg, actually! great question! i'll say that stress (such as, having a seizure) tends to make blood sugar go up. however, i'm tempted to think a tonic-clonic seizure (the kind with heavy shaking) could count as a form of activity? i'm not sure how to guide you here, unfortunately
some webpages talking about t1d with epilepsy:
If he ingests gluten how would that affect his sugar levels?
people with celiac who ingest gluten are going to experience severe inflammation, which is commonly known to increase blood sugar levels AND make a person temporarily more insulin resistant. high BG also causes more inflammation, so. feedback loop.
also, gluten is a carbohydrate, and if your character isn't used to eating it, will probably have trouble figuring out exactly how to bolus insulin for it. (even if they know the exact carb counts, different types of carbs take longer to digest and can require bolusing earlier or later than for other types of carbs.)
some links to resources talking celiac and t1d:
which insulin pumps/glucose meters were available in the late 2000s/early 2010s?
so i found this AWESOME page from the Wiley library from 2010 talking about the history of the insulin pump. def recommend reading through it, it's not that long and it's really cool. i also stole the following image from there, which answers your question.
animas went out of business or was discontinued a few years ago but was popular for a while before that. i have the omnipod, and have had the omnipod since 2006/2007, so if you have technical questions, feel free to throw them my way.
Tumblr media
that's all you need for your question, if you're interested here are other sites talking about insulin pump and cgm hx, bc im a nerd:
as for glucometers, don't feel like you have to mention brand names. they all work basically the same way; turn on, insert strip, poke finger, hold bloody finger to appropriate edge of strip, yell a lot bc you didn't get enough blood or the meter timed out, and rinse repeat until everything is successful.
brand names from 2000s/2010s i can think of include: freestyle, one touch (my old beloved), accu-chek. the original omnipod handheld controler (the PDM) had a meter inside it, which was awesome.
Does pricking your fingers make them sore?
yes.
it doesn't always hurt, but, imagine poking yourself with a small, fast-moving needle. if you get just the right spot, you won't feel it. if you get the WRONG spot, g-d help you cause you'll feel it for days.
also, constant pricking creates scar tissue. i haven't really pricked my finger for about two years now unless my pump/cgm stops working, but i still have limited feeling in my fingertips. like, can tap hot pans to see how hot they are without causing pain. i don;t recommend this but i do it, so. don't be like me :'D
good news is the visible scars--little black spots--went away eventually!
Does injecting insulin into your gut make that area painful when pressure is put into it(when diving for the ball)?
it sure can!
bruises are common from injecting, pumps and cgm sites also cause bruises. like after you get a vaccine? some areas bruise worse than others, this differs person to person and site to site. but if someone can feel it, it's just like making contact with any other bruise.
could the pump/monitor be placed on the body unlikely to be hit by the ball?
general recommend placement sites are, for starters:
back of the upper arms
abdomen on either side of the belly button to the hip
thighs (front or side, some people also do back of thigh)
upper buttocks (the fattiest area)
lower back (where love handles show up)
ideally you want it placed in fattier areas. muscle is ok but moves a lot and can disturb the site. bony areas = 0/10, do not recommend. much pain.
Tumblr media
people place sites basically anywhere bc scar tissue builds up and you run out of room eventually (rotating sites is very important bc it delays scar tissue forming!). some popular alternative, non-insurance-approved areas are:
the back of the forearm (i recommend shaving first, this hella hurt when i peeled off the adhesive and idk why it's so popular)
back of calf (i like this one)
shoulder blades (love this spot, but awkward to reach and awkward with bras)
and chest (have not personally tried)
which is the least likely to get smashed into by the ball, the ground, or another player? idk, i never played volleyball. back of the arm, probably? that, stomach, and thighs are typically the go-to for most people, i think, so you can't really go wrong there. it's good that you're thinking of it, bc it is a concern that athletes have to consider
there are also sleeves and extra adhesives available to help keep sites from ripping off or falling off. this website has a few different types so you can see wim.
omnipods are cool for sports bc they don't have any tubes to get tangled up or caught on something. other pumps all have thin tubes connecting the insulin reservoir and electronic parts to the actual site, and i have never understood how people manage to play sports and NOT get their tubed pump ripped off??? but lots of people don't have major problems with it ig.
lmk if you have any more questions! i love to talk about this stuff!

Vacation recap
Sunday: Travelling day, pretty low cal meals, lots of sitting. My granma didn't comment on my appearance, but my mom said I've lost an awful lot of weight. I just shrugged it off by saying I think it's been just an fine amount. She's usually not the one to comment on weight stuff so I was a little baffled.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Monday: I literally ate less than my 16 month old toddler. We had almost identical serving sizes for meals, but he had some extra snacks between meals because he's a hungry hungry boy.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Tuesday: Walked tons today. With baby mostly since I did all the 'babysitting' today. Appetite was down and I barely ate anything. Hubby was a bit grumpy due to the heat and him being grumpy really triggers me for some reason, even tho I know it has nothing to do with me.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Wednesday: Still no appetite. I felt quite down most of the day. Hubby tried to talk with me a little and cheered me every time I finished my plate, but it didn't help much. I finally pooped. For some reason I usually get backed up when we come here (it's an outhouse situation), but never for this long.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Thursday: Granma finally cracked and commented on my weight. She said something like I've let myself get skinny and I shouldn't leave food on the plate when I didn't finish my breakfast and gave it to hubby instead. Later she also said that it's good to be in shape but there's no use in beating/forcing yourself too hard when I mentioned about the run race. I just told her that my appetite hasn't caught up with the training yet.
I guess I haven't eaten even close to what I was supposed to. I have a strong urge to snack (between meals and on unhealthy stuff), which has become really uncommon for me.
I'm finally seeing my skinny self. I think it has something to do with the scene change, being in the cottage rather than home. Or maybe I've lost some water weight as well, I think I look way skinnier than during the first few days, but I doubt I've lost that much weight.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Friday: I think I finally ate close or even slightly above maintenance (which IS my goal). I did a lot of timbering and it grew my appetite. I didn't have to leave anything on the plate and even took seconds at dinner.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Saturday: Barely ate anything because hubby was in a bad mood again. I even skipped lunch and just said I'm not hungry when mom and grandma asked if I'd eaten.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Sunday: We continued with timbering so I was rather hungry again. I think I ate enough. I haven't pooped since Thursday and it's starting to feel annoying. I had a big portion of plum/prune kissel to move things around (Kissel is kind of jelly-like stuff, but without gelatin, grandma makes it without sugar I think.)
I ended up with low key binging. Nothing huge, just didn't have self control and ate some chocolate between meals and some popcorn grandma made. I feel horrible, this hasn't happened after I relapsed. I think my urges to overeat are due to the low protein content here, I think I barely eat the minimum amount I should. Or it's my luteal phase, who knows.
🪻 🫐 🪻
Monday: Travelling back home. I feel super constipated so I might give myself salt water flush when we get home. I'm a little afraid to weigh myself tomorrow, but it's not gonna change much even if I wait for a day or two.

10/20/23 Things I did to help myself.... what did I have to change? Seems like everything some days.
Healthy Tips
Realistically evaluated my eating habits. It was either not enough or too much, no in-between. That was part of my problem.
Most restaurant meals are too much, even if you think you are ordering the 'healthy option'
It is not normal to gorge yourself on appetizers, drinks, & a giant entree. Choose a moderation mindset: Pick one or 2. Share an app. One drink. Pack half your entree 'to go'.
Our society is driven by consumerism. I had to take steps to stop that. Meet people to do activities, not to consume things.
Water- I shoot for 200 oz of water a day.
I take low cal beverages with me... nearly everywhere. Tea, coffee, sparkling water.
Try all kinds of different tea.
Meals focus on protein and produce. If you are still hungry- eat another portion of meat and produce.
Try to eat as unprocessed as possible. They add stuff to our food to make our brains light the F up. It isn't natural and devastating to people like me who are especially susceptible. Often when I have issues (yesterday!) It is because I had a processed item.
Sometimes I add a fiber supplement to my drink. Adds calories yes but I don't worry about it.
Try to only have 1 sweet thing a day. The later in the day, the better. I will actually be shooting for every 3 days or so.
Some of my craving issues were blood sugar related because I was pre-diabetic and had PCOS- which has an insulin problem.
If you haven't eaten, plan and eat a healthy meal that has a substantial amount of protein.
If you have eaten already, try to distract yourself with a task. If you are still truly hungry 20 minutes later- have another bit of protein & veggies.
Walk daily. But don't count it as your cardio.
If you work at a desk, get a standing desk and try to work up to standing daily.
Cardio 3x a week. Whatever you enjoy. Yes, you have to enjoy it. If you don't, you haven't found your activity yet.
Weight training 3x a week. Lift all the weights you can, as often as you can manage. You are now in training. For life!
Supplements- figure out what works for you. I am currently on: Sam-E, NAC, Nomorbidity, Alkemi, allergy stuff, and some other stuff I rotate in.
Read books that help your mindset. Atomic habits, mindset books. 10 mins a day, make it a habit to improve yourself.
Watch YouTube videos that build your motivation and determination.
Things can get better. I also utilize therapy! There is no shame in needing help!
I am becoming a healthier person and every choice reflects that.

so i woke up in mid of night and proceeded to eat the whole bulk sized coconut unsweetened plain yogurt w bananas. i was feeling sluggish already but after brushing my teeth i feel a bit o pep.
yes so this gal has eating disorder issues. no im recovering bulimic so not gonna throw up. !
plus it was low calorie and had good gut bacteria stuffs for me/us/the biome.
problem is with silk brand which has more protein they don't got sugar free or unsweetened mini yogurts. im excited to see if this coconutty 🥥 brand does! i sense they might! but alas i may be disappointed.
and it's okie to eat a bulk size unsweetened coconut yogurt now and then. i believe if i subtract the bananas from equation it will be less "tasty" and "alluring" for my eating disorder.
so perhaps i shall purchase it again and do better next time.
right now it's june 10 i have ten sugary soy milk yogurts and one bunch organic bananas. the fifteenth i receive a hundred dollars for food stamps. must shop at walmart bc the yogurts is cheaper there (i think)
anyway back to bed my doves!
i will try to keep up with notifs eventually and heart yalls things do some rebloggin.
virtual angel giving reiki virtual hugs! tee hee. wtf lol

Woke up 8:30am, left with mom to nearby city at 9:00am. She stopped to get some fuel before we continued our trip. Billy Idol's Rebel Yell plays in the radio and I love it! :D We arrived to this city a bit before 11am (it takes 1h to drive there).
We first went to piercing shop to show my piercings to the piercer. She was happy to see how well my piercings have healed (earlobes fully, cartilage too even that it's still a bit swollen - this is normal!) so I bought myself little tiny diamond earrings from her and she even changed them for me to my earlobes! :3
Then mom and I visited this BIG cemetery where her father and brother rests. I found 2 huge white feathers there! A good sign :)
Then to store 1: I found myself very nice scented candles with "take 3, pay for 2" offer, feet "mask", feet bath salt, some Christmas gifts and other stuff. After shopping we came to a car, got in, turned power on and again Billy Idol is playing from the radio! :D
Store 2: Found more Christmas gifts - even if only few.
Store 3: I planned on getting only 3 items from this food store BUT they had so good and different offers that I fell for them, ahah! So I bought myself some berry soups, vegetables etc.
Store 4: Biggest food market in the said city (to my knowledge). I bought so.much.food! I spent 87 euros on food AT ONCE! I NEVER buy food so much at once! But they had some sales too which I fell for, ahah! I bought 2 HUGE cauliflowers since they were 1€ / kilo, I bought lots of fruits and vegetables, chicken meats, eggs, butter made of plants etc. and I also found 2 last shirts with discounts! My whole point to this trip WAS to get 2 new shirts since my (acid) back sweat has eat holes to my 3 other shirts! (Yes, I don't have much clothes overall. I like to use the one and the sames as long until you can't wear them anymore since they break... :'D)
Store 5: I bought new flavored waters since they didn't have my favorite water. Bravely I bought 6 bottles of 1,5 liter bottles. Flavor: Pineapple-lime. I DON'T LIKE pineapple juice or anything like that! I like pineapple ONLY from the can and on top of pizza, nothing else. So I was skeptic when I took the first taste test.... and that water... was so freaking YUMMY! So so good! :D Not only that but it has VERY LOW calories and sugar levels so yay! (I did check these two with protein level from most ingredients I bought today)
Store 6: Just fast walking through. Didn't find anything. We drove another 1h to get back home.
And during this whole 11H LONG shopping I saw cars with number 44 on them SO MANY TIMES! I think I broke my record of seeing them during one day! Wherever I looked, there was 44! All the freaking time! But that was really nice and assuring, too :) Now I'm sitting in dark living room, TV on on Olympics while it's thundering outside <3 (just rain and few rumbles then and there - probably the edge of the cloud as always).
I should warm sauna and go to bath since I always feel sick, cold and feverish after these exhausting shopping trips (we didn't even go to this big mall where we usually always go) but I also wouldn't want to go - and I know I will be shivering in bed if I won't go wash myself. Simple shower is just njah...
But overall super nice day <3

Did you get diagnosed with cfs? Or like how did you know you have cfs? (Wondering because I think i have it)
heyyy cutie, so number one im rlly sorry if you have cfs, spoiler alert, it sucks dick, like acc kinda the worst thing ever, but it does provide an absolutely airtight excuse for when you want to get out of stuff, especially with teachers so that’s a win
so i think i’m gonna first describe like how i got it and what it’s like and then do diagnosis, im really sorry this might be a rant so brace yourself. (this came out wayyyy longer than i expected so sorry, it was really cathartic though)
so in like december/january when i was 11 i got glandular fever which developed into cfs. it meant that within pretty much a week i started sleeping 20 hours a day and that lasted for about six months, i then slowly started getting better but it was a really long process, i was going to school maybe 1 day a week and i couldn’t do any sports, for a while i could barely walk down the stairs, i remember my mum trying to take me on a walk around the block and i had to sit down like five steps out my front door. i lost a lot of weight cause i was eating about one meal a day and i don’t really remember that entire year of my life, it’s just kinda a black hole which is pretty terrifying. since then it’s been excruciatingly slow recovery and now when i’m pretty much back to normal health but i still have to be so careful about how much sleep i’m getting or how much sport im doing. i faint a lot and have super dodgy blood pressure/sugar because of cfs. i describe it to people (who don’t understand spoons) that everyone has the same budget but in my shop everything costs double. so you do a workout and that takes energy and time to recover, i do a workout out and it takes double the energy and double the time to recover. so i get flare ups a lot where i can’t go to school for a week and stuff.
basically my diagnosis process was kinda crazy, so i first got it when i was 11 which is like really extraordinarily young meaning it was a nightmare trying to get diagnosed. doctors like rlly didn’t want to deal with it, also it was just before covid so i was low on the priority list. i got passed around a lot, someone thought it was my heart, someone else my immune system i had SO MANY blood tests done, like thousands but nothing would show up on them, so no doctors believed me. they thought it was just a teenager being tired. eventually when i fell asleep on the bench during an appointment they were like oh okay this is a problem. i eventually found a consultant who specialised in it which was a godsend and she helped so much and explained what was going on. but for the first six months we had no idea and it was terrifying, i was at the top of the high risk list for covid and had to shield cause everyone thought i was going to die or something. my mum got so desperate she took me to see a private doctor who told me that drinking lucozade would fix the issue. this was also before long covid which raised a lot of awareness so everyone was still in the dark and deeply unbothered. either way it’s really scary but the only solution is to wait it out, it’s horrible but that’s kind of the only thing you can do. here are my best tips though. I promise it does get better and you will find someone to help you.
-don’t push yourself ever, if your body is saying it needs rest then it needs rest. you will make yourself feel 1000% times worse if you push yourself and it will also slow your recovery.
-always carry an energy/protein bar on you. at. all. times. especially if you’re like me and one of your side effects is fainting. eating something really helps so make sure you always have food on you.
-actually tell people to fuck off if they’re not being understanding, remind them it’s a legally deemed a disability and don’t let anyone pressure you into doing anything because you ‘look fine’, i found having doctors write notes to the school really helpful cause then i had actual proof but i got into many many fights with my school nurse
-this also goes for doctors you have to look after yourself and that extends to fighting for yourself. tell them everything your feeling, don’t let them brush you off, say that you’re not okay and need help, at some point someone will listen i promise even though it takes a minute.
-also when you do feel you have enough energy to do things, please don’t immediately start trying to catch up on work, it’s a really traumatic experience and you have to prioritise your health and that includes mental health. go for a walk, do something creative, see friends these are as important to your recovery as resting is.
-feeling like a burden is something your going to have to get used to. ask friends and family for help you have a chronic disease you need it.
-also this sounds like bullshit but i found taking vitamins really really helps especially vit D. i don’t know if they acc work or it’s a placebo effect but either way i think they make a big difference.
look after yourself, it’s truly so horrible and scary, trust me i know but it’s going to be okay and there is a light at the end of the tunnel and i promise you do come out the other side. there is a doctor out there who will listen to you and it will be okay it just doesn’t feel like it right now. and i swear to god if you don’t send me more asks or message me if you have any more questions or need advice or support or someone to rant to i will find where you live track you down and slap you (joking obvs but seriously i am like always here i mean it, i didn’t have anyone to talk to and i know that can be so scary so i am like really really intensely here for you) it’s going to be okay, look after yourself cutie. i hope this helped and sorry for the rant.

🍔, 🎶 and 👻 for the symbol meme!
🍔 - What kind of food does your muse usually eat? Do they have a favorite food, or favorite style of food? Do they have allergies? Are they vegan, vegetarian, etc.?
No severe allergies. Sensitivity to some things that hurt her body like specific oils and some melons.
Carla eats weirdly. She needs a lot of protein, salt, and carbs to function, and her metabolism means she always has to have food on hand or risk severe blood sugar crashes. She used to have no love for food because it never made her full or feel good. Really it was just Derek trying to enforce a poor diet on her for her condition.
After years away from him, she eats a lot more regularly, but never in front of people. A big part of learning to do that was Raul, or Nighthawk, of the Guild, making her things to eat. Carla has a lot of smoothies and purees she freezes and has on her for foods because they're light. She eats a lot of fish. Unsurprisingly.
👻 - How does your muse handle feeling scared? Do they enjoy horror? Do they believe in the paranormal? What calms your muse down? Do they have any scary stories?
She just stonewalls and gets ahead of the fear by dissociating and attacking it if she can. She truly doesn't get scared by much. When she does get scared she spirals and catastrophically reacts first, or tries to solve what's scaring her immediately.
Carla is fine with horror. She surprisingly believes in some of the esoteric stuff, and has more of an animist perspective of how metaphysical things function.
Carla calms herself down from extreme emotions by screaming or hitting things. Or she cries. For more manageable things she'll detach and breathe, then do something physical or lose herself in something cerebral instead. Her tolerance levels are simultaneously extremely high and low. She can take a lot before snapping but she also might decide to prematurely snap anyways.
Yeah she has scary stories but not fun ones. They're just disgusting or sad.

I’m gonna share another very useful approach to life as an adult with ADHD: cooking and nutrition edition.
The American idea that dinner is “meat/protein with a veggie and a side” and that this is somehow an easy thing to prepare is a lie. That’s so much work. Sometimes I like making a meal that requires a lot of effort but that’s not sustainable for my average weeknight dinner.
I would like to instead introduce you to my world of Sauce Based Cooking. It is predicated on the idea that the “one pan meal” is not a category of recipe but rather a decision made by the chef. There are some deviations (some meals require a pasta pot and/or sheet pan) but that’s still way less than a lot of recipes call for. If it requires a blender, simply close the link and step away.
Rules for Sauce Based Cooking Freedom:
Have more spices/flavorful pastes than you know what to do with. Better than Bouillon and miso paste and curry paste and spice mixes etc etc. You are not running an authentic Tex-Mex restaurant from your kitchen just get the taco seasoning packets.
If you eat meat, you should be buying bone-in skin-on chicken thighs. Not chicken breasts. You can braise a chicken thigh for two hours and it will only get tastier and better. Cooking a chicken breast is stressful and requires a level of precision im not prepared to give to a chicken.
Focus on learning to make tasty BASES. You have learned if you make it and it tastes good to you. Nail down a good cream sauce, perfect your 20 minute marinara, learn a coconut curry, figure out the basic components of a marinade. Add some ground ginger to your chicken soup and thank me later. Then cooking is just beating protein and veggies into submission under your sauces and above your grains.
Don’t try and make ~dishes~. I call this “Zelda cooking.” You need something that you enjoy eating and gives you the nutrients you need to function. Prep vegetables and proteins you like and dump them into a sauce you also like. Add some polenta or bread or rice or couscous or any other grain to soak up the sauce and make it filling and satisfying. 9 times out of 10 it’s gonna work. The only decision you need to make is the flavor profile of the sauce.
Buy the precut vegetables. I know. It feels wasteful. So much plastic. But I promise you it’s way more wasteful to throw out half your groceries and order Uber eats 5 days in a row because you never managed to chop an onion. It’s okay. Precut/frozen vegetables and canned ingredients and prepared food items are going to be your lifeline. I can turn a rotisserie chicken and plastic tub of mirepoix (pre chopped onions, celery and carrots) into a delectable soup with just things in my pantry at this very moment.
Same as above but line the pan with foil. Save yourself a dish.
Add at least one vegetable to everything you cook. This might be controversial but you need fiber. And all sorts of other vitamins and minerals that things like kale and carrots and sweet potatoes have. My go to is canned chickpeas. A jar of marinara plus some canned chickpeas and kale is suddenly a hearty and filling topping for pasta that’s gonna satisfy me way more than just the pasta and sauce. And all I had to do was dump a can and a bag into the pot. That’s not a dish that really exists or has a recipe but it’s Sauce Based and I eat it a lot.
Keep some fortified cereal (most cereal is fortified by default) and trail mix on hand. Sometimes I get in a funk and order a lot of takeout or just eat a lot of carbs and not much else and then get woozy because I’m a little dumb and don’t eat a lot of animal products so all my Nutrients are low and that makes cooking harder. Fortified cereal and trail mix together will have most of the stuff you need to get rid of the lightheaded wooziness (iron and b12 and fats and sugar) in a dense little package that’s easy to munch on while cooking.
Finally, I know online recipes and Pinterest are great and wonderful but get proper cookbooks whenever you can. The first reason is that even with AdBlocker online recipes are a minefield and can be distracting and frustrating and overwhelming which are all things you don’t want when knives and hot pans are around. The second is that you will learn so much about cooking from a proper cookbook and the better you are at cooking the easier and faster it goes. ThriftBooks has plenty as will your local library or even older relatives. Ones like “Cook What You Have” by Christopher Kimball and “The New York Times Cooking No-Recipe Recipes” book and the classic “The Art of Simple Food” by Alice Waters are great.

Do you think Xander, Alex or Dana enjoy desserts? If so what do you think they like/don’t like? Also what hobbies do you think Xander and Dana have outside their jobs? Sorry I love the smallest and most frivolous of details about characters I love to think about the kinds of things they enjoy it’s fun to me
Dessert:
Xander: Hates sweets. He eats 99% cocoa powder dark chocolate and it is NOT fair trade. Fuels up on sugar only as needed to reach carbohydrate goals. Would not turn down dessert in a social setting, but would rather order a second appetizer or entree in private.
Dana: Likes sweets a normal amount. Would prefer pizza over cake. Eats 80% cocoa powder dark chocolate and it IS fair trade.
Alex: Can and will eat pure sugar straight out of the bag. Even in his lowest-energy form, he has a massive caloric requirement, so he packs away anything high in fat, carbs, and protein. Pretty much a garbage disposal.
Hobbies:
Xander: He has kept his hobbies secret, even from his siblings. Why he feels the need to do this is a mystery even to him. He's a workaholic, so he doesn't take MUCH time off work, and Dana knows he likes to get up at ass o'clock AM and go work out, nearly every day. If you ask Dana, she mentions that he likes hard rock, grunge, punk-type music, and likes to watch horror movies. These aren't really hobbies so much as sometimes he can't be working out or regular working, and he needs something to pass the time. Since she can't be assed to wake up in time to go work out with him, she doesn't know that he practices parkour/gymnastics as part of his workout stuff. This is less "fun" to him and more a way to expunge the murderous energy that builds up in his body so that he doesn't flip out on his coworkers/subordinates. If he couldn't regularly slam his body against concrete and brick walls, he would probably start actively physically harming people. Karen noticed the random injuries he'd sustain and he'd pretend it was from doing kickboxing instead. Problem with martial arts is they're not solo sports and workout time is alone time for him. This is also why he hates going to gyms despite holding a membership. To practice, he has several favored quiet, run-down alleyways where no one else goes. I hope the impression you walk away with is that he is in serious need of therapy.
Dana: Mostly concerned with making ends meet while juggling college and work, Dana also spent a lot of her time just working. Both Mercer siblings are very driven and goal-oriented people. Had she the free time and money, she'd probably be a party girl. Clubbing, recreational drugs, dancing. Xander hammered safety into her head from a super early age, and they have their mom to look to as an example, so she wouldn't wind up in heavy drugs (or even heavy drinking - she's not a straight-edge like Xander is, but she's not a huge fan of alcohol. Weed is her drug of choice) or crazy flings. She just likes the dancing, the music, the people. She'd be into all kinds of weird, on-the-street art stuff - indie concerts, pop-up galleries, flea markets. She'd probably get into owning snakes or bugs, something low-maintenance and kind of creepy. The woman-about-town, always trying new things, going to new places, making new friends, (hustling them out of money), rinse, repeat.
Alex: He likes to run really fast in self-imposed obstacle courses and try to beat his best time. Or climb up somewhere really high and try to land within 5 meters of a round landmark.

Odds & Ends: July 26, 2024
Beach Vacationers Are Doing It Wrong. Psychiatrist Richard Friedman makes the case that vacations where you do a lot of lying and idling around may “work against the very things a trip is meant to cultivate: a mental reset, a sense of relaxation, happiness.” He argues that what most of us really need a break from is the anxiety-creating “tyranny of self-absorption,” that leisurely vacations only enhance this preoccupation with our thoughts, and that it would be better to take active vacations full of the kind of physical exertion that creates endorphins, absorbs your focus, and takes you out of yourself. As someone who dislikes the beach (especially sitting on the beach), and just got back from spending a couple days in Colorado hiking, biking, and fishing, I endorse this message. The Material Review. OG men’s style blogger Michael Williams (check out my podcast interview with him and David Coggins about developing your “personal uniform”) has resurrected a sister website that he had with his site A Continuous Lean. The Material Review is a bi-weekly Substack in which Williams and his co-conspirator, Taylor Stacey, highlight cool stuff they’ve come across on the world wide web related to gear, travel, sport, food, and life. You’ll find links to interesting articles and products (many of which are American-made). This is how the web should be: human-curated links rather than algorithmically-pulled-together content goo.  St. Thomas Aquinas’ Prayer Before Study. Andrew McLuhan, grandson of famous media intellectual Marshall McLuhan (the guy who originated the idea of “the medium is the message“), tweeted this prayer penned by St. Thomas Aquinas that his father Eric McLuhan (another deep media thinker) kept pinned next to his desk. It’s a prayer to offer before engaging in study. I really like the idea of infusing soul into your intellectual pursuits.  Legendary Protein Toaster Pastry. I’m always on the lookout for tasty and convenient high-protein snacks. One that I’ve been enjoying lately is the Legendary Protein Toaster Pastry. They’re a high-protein, low-carb Pop-Tart alternative. They’re just 180 calories and have 20 grams of protein and only 22 grams of carbs (a lot of which is fiber). They come in a variety of flavors, including brown sugar cinnamon, chocolate (my favorite!), and strawberry. Do they taste exactly like a Pop-Tart? Definitely not. Are they a “frankenfood” that bears little resemblance to actual food and should only be consumed on occasion? Surely. But they’re great for when you need something high in protein and low in calories on the go and have become one of my go-to road trip snacks.  Quote of the Week A man is already of consequence in the world when it is known that we can implicitly rely upon him. I have frequently seen in life a person preferred to a long list of applicants for some important charge, which lifts him at once into station and fortune, merely because he has this reputation — that when he says he knows a thing, he knows it, and when he says he will do a thing, he does it.  — Edward Bulwer-Lytton   Help support independent publishing.
