Some commentators were saying that while Leclerc might be topping the FP2, Norris was the one who was actually fastest over one race lap. Is this true, you're my resident expert, I need you to tell me

Yeah no, this is the recency bias and British bias taking over. We saw them do the same thing for Carlos after he won too, they treated him like he was going to be the best forever. This is not shade at either Carlos or Lando, but if you look at the rhetoric used after their wins there are a lot of similarities. Especially with the British bias we see them cling to anything they can use to hype Lando. I don't think this kind of thing from the press serves either driver long term. It holds them to a ridiculous standard they are eventually going to fall short of.

But now to answer your question. Let's look at what the data shows.

FP1 - fastest laps Charles - 1:15.969 Lando: 1:16.980 I don't think Lando got a really good run in FP1 but that's the data we have for that session.

Here is the FP1 graph. Ignore Charles on the hard tyres because that was a pace test. What we want to look at is the soft tyres and the overall top speeds. Again Charles was not only fastest on one lap, he was consistently fastest.

Here is their fastest lap. Lando and Charles were matched in sector one, Lando picked up time on that low speed turn, but Charles really built the gap in sector three mostly due to better braking.

FP2 - fastest laps Charles: 1:15.906 Lando: 1:16.980

Lando didn't do much on the softs so I don't want to do a fastest lap comparison here because he didn't really have much of a chance to really test that this session. However look at the far right on this graph where they are both on the mediums. Again across multiple laps Charles is consistently faster. There are a few where Lando has the edge, but it's not a majority. Lando being faster than Charles on 3-4 laps over the course of 2 free practice sessions in my opinion does not make him the fastest overall and it certainly does not show his pace is better.

Charles has been a full second faster than Lando, what are they talking about? Now Mclaren might not be going for all out top speed runs yet. But that doesn't matter here because the issue is what commentators and reporters are saying, and it doesn't line up with what we are seeing on track and in the data.

I have no idea why they wouldn't highlight Oscar more as he is currently the fastest Mclaren on the field for these sessions thus far.

Take all of this with a grain of salt because teams are testing things etc. I don't think this is the best of what either Charles or Lando have to offer this weekend. We will probably see both of them better come race day. The issue here is how this data is being reported on.

Sometimes commentators just say things. I really could not tell you why. Obviously Lando is in the spotlight because he's coming off a win, which I am sure is exciting for his fans and British fans especially. But they don't need to artificially hype him up, he's just in free practice and he's doing fine. Is he putting on a jaw dropping performance of speed? No. But it's free practice it doesn't matter.

Thoughts, ramblings and a hot take from the conclusion of the Border Gavaskar trophy series:

Yes, Jasprit Bumrah is an excellent bowler who did an absolute number on the Australian side 4/5 games in the series. But I don’t think he should have been man of the series, because his side didn’t win. What he did, did not retain the trophy for his side. Yes, he put up some great stats (arguably because India over bowled him and has now lead to him being injured mid test), but one player’s stats don’t win a series, and man of the series should ultimately be about overall impact on the series.

The player of the series should have been our lord and saviour Pat Cummins. I know he’s often man of the series, and I’ll admit a personal bias to the man because I’ve always liked him as a player and I personally tipped him as the best choice for captain post-Paine scandal, but here are some facts.

This is the first time in ten years that Australia has outright won (not drawn and retained) the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

This is the first time in a long ass while that Australia has outright won a series after a first test loss

Australia won the series despite including three players on debut, including a 19 year-old opener replacing a legendary recently retired opening batsman.

They clinched the last test before tea on pink day, day 3, despite nutcase worsening pitch conditions that truly made old grown-in pitches of the SCG on day 5 look predictable

They won this series in front of record crowds, including the second year of memorial and honours for Shane Warne at Boxing Day

And, in my mind, one of the most important points:

Pat Cummins’ Australian side currently holds all 5 bilateral trophies it plays in (The Ashes, Border-Gavaskar, Trans-Tasman, Benaud-Qadir and Frank Worrell) and the World Cup in 50 over format, and the World Test Championship. The only thing they don’t currently hold is the T20 World Cup, in which they came second to India.

It’s quite literally not possible for all of those trophies to have been won in Australia. It’s truly a versatile team, held together by a well-loved leader and exceptional cricketer. Many teams placed under the pressure that Australia saw in this series would dig their heels in and not make a bid to win, but draw. His team did not give up under that pressure and adversity, and there is always, always a way forward. There’s a running line in my home that cricket is played above the tentorium, meaning, headspace and mental approach is one of the most important factors in the game, and as a captain, I think this is where Pat Cummins makes the greatest impact in his leadership of the team.

On his individual stats level, in this series, he won crucial runs for the Australian side when it mattered most, and took many, many wickets and catches, while making essentially strategic decisions with the team on fielding and preserving the bowlers to prevent injury. Despite being a self-professed bowler, his stats as of the conclusion of the Boxing Day test rank him 3rd in the world on the rankings as an all-rounder. He really is that good. His impact on this team, on Australian cricket, is palpable, and for those reasons, he should have been man of the series.

(I could also make a case for how Travis Head was an equally quality choice for man of the series for his over 448 runs in the series.)

Big props to India on the series, and extra big props for participating in pink day, unlike certain other sides that play Australia in December-January.

ahhh. recency bias is real bc brazil 2024 was just such a... relief. max's car had been flopping, he hadn't won like in the last 10 races, the fia hated him, his team was a shit-show, he was starting p17... so to see him win, with a banger opening lap where he made up like 9 places, and then how he kept making the right calls, keeping the car in line when everybody else was spinning off and struggling. it just meant a lot to me because it also meant a LOT to him

similar to this, silverstone 2024 and monaco 2024 because it was just so evident how much those wins meant to lewis and charles

Well here we go again. Brett loses. I am sure it's because we are not a 1/2 ppr league but whatever it is he is now 1-3. Cliff had a great week putting up 119 points even with Mahomes throwing two INT's and laying down on the 1 yard line. He didn't need it - he won without those bonus points. A big shoutout to Cliff for picking up Achane on the waiver wire and actually playing him. He put up 29, the most of any player on his team. Great job Cliff. Brett, I don't what to say except the obvious...maybe make some trades?

Kyle won! Kyle actually won! He only put up 83 points....but after starting the year off with 3 losses in a row he grabs one and begins his climb back into relevancy. And of course with every winner there is a loser...and this week that loser is Gabe Scott. Yes, that means Gabe moves to 0-4. Is that Gabe's fault? Well, yes, kind of. Bottom line, he didn't believe in DJ Moore and the Chicago Bears. If he would have played DJ instead of Rashid Shaheed...then tonight, he would be that little girl in the GIF above. But, he didn't...probably because of his bias against the Bears from being brainwashed his whole life into thinking the Lions are good and the Bears are bad...but whatever it was - he lost. NIce win Kyle. I BELIEVE.

BOOMER SOONER vs TREE HUGGERS

Do we really think Scott Krippayne is shocked? He won again. He won with 2 players still to play on MNF. Will anyone beat him? Stu Jones tried but came up way short. He even had 35 from Diggs and 25 From Herbert and couldn't get it done. Sorry Stu. You did all you could do...it just wasn't enough. But, you know what this means. Next week Scott Krippayne who is 4-0...plays Bebo Norman who also is 4-0 - in an epic battle to determine who remains undefeated through week 5. Should be an amazing match up!

Well well well. Dana Cappillino going into MNF with the lead and the high point. Mitch White who loves to take that free $20 whenever he can - still has Seahawk Defense to play but he will need just over 14 points to steal the win and potentially the high point. As always - Mitch started the night with a free 20 points...and as we all expect...those numbers will go down right? Well, no...not when the defense is playing Dana's favorite team - the New York Giants. Sacks, Fumbles, INTS galore...and then a pick 6 when Giants were just ready to score and boom just like that Dana's great week ends up being a loss. So for a 3rd time in 4 weeks Mitch White takes the high point and the win.

HOWARD vs TuPADRE

Well, the final match up of the night was close when it started and stay close all night. TuPadre had a small lead and both guys had a running back yet to play. Rob with Seattle's Kenneth Walker III and Gully and Son with Matt Breida on the Giants. It all pointed to a slugfest on Monday night to determine the winner but as the night went on Rob creeped toward a win...with a TD from Walker III and then finally late in the 4th Quarter a break out run that put him in the lead and taking the win. Sorry Gully and son...what a brutal beatdown to have to watch that horrible game and end up losing in the final minutes. Congrats to Rob Howard.

- this is basically connected to the one before this but is a dancer, she did ballet as a kid then her parents enrolled her in a professional dance school. She had to quit because that on top of being the student body VP, her work in the animal shelter and being a farm hand in her family's farm it's just too much work

- her and ao'nung are irish twins so even though they were both born in the same year she had to step down a grade (hence why she's classmates with Lo'ak and Kiri)

- the Maihoa family are loaded so you'd expect her to be snobby and uptight right? HELL. NO. Tonowari and Ronal raised her better than that (she would make do with whatever she has, she's literally so low maintenance and would appreciate ANYTHING)

- they have this private strip of land where they converted into a golf course where they'd go golfing any time (it's literally a 5 minute drive away from their estate) she and Ao'nung would golf every weekday if they didn't have any homework and would stay there until sunset

- he sometimes asks the most obvious questions that some of his classmates start laughing as a result 💀 jokes on them though they didn't ace the test like he did

- he's the type of person to stutter when he's nervous so when he came to Kiri's house to meet their parents for the first time it took him 1 whole minute to say hello to Tuk who opened the door asking him if he was the doordash guy

- he can hold his breath for 3 minutes (imagine you're just relaxing on the beach and you see two 7 year old boys floating on the surface of the water)

- he's always been the friend that was almost NEVER allowed outside, if his grandma does allow him outside she only gives him an hour or so but Ao'nung has already used up like 15 minutes for begging so...

They drank them on the rooftop that night while they watched the sunset (and scrambling down when Tsireya spots them halfway across the beach)

- braids Kiri's hair for them (they could literally be eating lunch together with the group and next thing she knows Rotxo's asking for a rubber band to tie her hair off)

- wears those puca shell necklaces and sometimes wears a sweatband to school (I know im describing Michael from Duckrockers but HUSH)

- used to always eat in the classroom of his favorite teacher who teaches AP Lit, that is until Ao'nung found out and invited him over to eat with him and his swim team friends, until they eventually just started eating on another table, Tsireya joined them as well because her friend group was getting a bit too tight iykyk (fake ass bitches) then Lo'ak started sitting there because he Tsireya started dating, then Lo'ak invited Kiri over because he had a bet going with Ao'nung that Kiri would be the first one to ask Rotxo to be their boyfriend, then Neteyam decided to eat with them too because someone had to ratio the absolute havoc these 4 wreak during lunch time (2 to 4 is better than 1 to 4, poor Reya)

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Vytal Festival Tournament! I hope you're all as excited as I am, because we're kicking off the festivities with two matches at once! Team RWBY vs Team ABRN, and Team BRNZ vs Team JNPR! I hope you're ready for a match to remember, because you won't want to miss either of these fights!

Brawnz: We give!

Jaune: Huh?

Brawnz: We give up! You win!

Jaune: I- You- We-

Nora: We won! (Crowd boos) Listen to our adoring fans!

Ren: Why did you give up?

but then as you two started to spend more time together you gradually started getting closer

now the two of you have the cutest parent/child like relationship ever

take his babying tendencies with the other members and multiply it by 10

he always tries to take care of you in small ways like giving you water after dance practice or making sure you don’t overexert yourself

a bit overprotective but for the most part he just let’s you do whatever

also nags you a lot

whether it’s to do your homework or to eat something

he’s very worried about you all the time because of rude fans and netizens

but at the end of the day he knows you can handle yourself

even then you still depend on him sometimes

seonghwa also probably scolds the other members if they go too far with pranks/teasing

his bias towards you is very obvious

but he still sees you as a smol child that has to be protected at all costs

hongjoong is basically seonghwa’s behavior around you but 10x worse (not in a bad way tho lmao)

he definitely nags you a lot more because he’s a stressed leader

but that’s just how he shows he cares for you

definitely favors you a lot more than the boys when they are being annoying

he also makes sure you’re okay and in perfect health all the time

usually lets you help develop new tracks when you’re in the mood to help

sometimes even gives you some producing and recording tips, while also letting you listen to his most recent tracks

and also the type to say “no one but me is allowed to call you stupid names and tease you”

speaking of stupid names, he barely refers you to your actual name off screen, he always has dumb nicknames for you

and vice versa too, you also can get pretty creative with names

but he’s also one of the members to automatically know when somethings wrong with you, like yunho he’s emotional support for you

also encourages you to push harder as well (ofc not TOO far), because he wants you to be the best version of yourself

no one can hurt you in any way or that person will get a piece of yeosang’s mind

even though he’s an annoying brat around you all the time, he still deeply cares and cherishes you cause he really does love you like his sister

he loves you so much! san thinks you’re so adorable and he just loves you so much

probably praises you for every little thing you do too. the others sometimes get tired of his antics sometimes but you find them cute

you steal his attention from wooyoung and that sometimes causes petty rivalries, but it’s all just fun and games

he’s also another member to know when something’s up with you, cause you guys were even close during trainee days

initiated a lot of skinship with you, and he likes to play with your hair too and vice versa

also a lot of aegyo between the two of you, you two are just so soft for each other it’s irresistible

san is also the type of friend to wake you up at like- 3 in the morning to play games with him or watch a movie

speaking of games, you guys also play a lot of games together

most of the time san wins though

if you speak english, he probably asks for tips and lessons on english, and you’re partly the reason why he has a smooth accent and decent vocabulary

you also probably tease him a bit, especially about his dance audition to KQ, which always results in a smack

if you aren’t a rapper, you probably try to imitate his rapping. it always looks very silly and he just cracks up at the sight

you two also cause a lot of chaos when it’s just you and the others without the 98 liners

also you two aren’t allowed to cook together anymore

one day when you it was just you and the 99 liners, mingi threw some flour at you while baking and it caused a whole ass war

hongjoong spent an hour wiping frosting off of the wall, and you guys got a huge scolding from seonghwa. still worth it though

you probably steals his hoodies cause they are so warm. he either doesn’t mind or gets whiny about it

probably has pasted sticky notes all over your room before in random spots, and you did the same to him too

you two are the equivalent to chaotic twin siblings and it’s just adorable

wooyoung can and will annoy you to death with his stupid antics, and vice versa too

you two probably didn’t get along at first in trainee days but now you guys are the closest you can get

he’s very affectionate around you that even SAN sometimes gets jealous, san of all people! you have to be very special to make him jealous

also those petty rivalries between you and him over san never really last that long, it’s just stupid bickering

probably tags along with you and mingi to prank the other members

he usually wins them because you can’t beat that man’s charm, but sometimes he makes a comment a little too inappropriate that results in a scolding

both of you also do a lot of stupid dances together, and the other members just watch you guys wonder what the hell you two inhaled

if there’s a rumor/false scandal surrounding you, he will comfort you the most and protect you at all costs, even going as far to glare and call out someone who insulted you

he doesn’t really show it cause he doesn’t like showing affection on screen, but he always looks out for you

no one dares to mess with you when jongho is around cause they know they are gonna get their shit rocked

mingi and wooyoung learned that the hard way

he’s very caring for you and although he doesn’t show it by hugging or in any other physical gestures, he shows it through words

he actually was really shy to talk to you at first cause he thought you were really pretty, so you guys talked through notes

eventually he came out of his shell and now he talks to you like one of his close friends

if you’re one of the main vocalists, you and him probably sing a lot together, even when he’s breaking apples

has probably taken you to a few puppy cafes before so you could frolic with all of the adorable dogs

he just really wants the best for you, even if this isn’t super visible on screen

you also jump on his back a lot to make him carry you cause he’s a strong boi

he also just picks you up randomly and throws you over his shoulder just for your reaction

and it’s a lot of screaming fyi

overall, he brings out the more calming and quiet side in you, but it’s nothing bad, because both of you know that you care for each other

Making a list of how I personally rate/feel about the 2021 Ovenbreak Cookies for the fun of it!! I'm prolly gonna make a 2020 and 2019 list since I was around during those years, too!! But for now, 2021 Cookies (and Pets I guess because some pets got their own trailer)!!

Chess Choco Cookie: 7/10 - They're adorable and I love their plotline!! Spooky twins trope my beloved. I still think about the line here they "lost their rook" and Earl Grey Cookie stands as the opposing rook in the story.

Earl Grey Cookie: 10/10 - He's a lovable caretaker who adopted two kids and technically is a Cookie of Darkness! He's a perfectionist that's haunted by his pet/past mistakes and I think about him WAYYYY too much.

Cookiemals: 5/10 - They're decent? Nice to see the opportunity of actual animals being sentient cookies and they give a little more information about what Wind Archer does in the Dessert Paradise... But other than that and the fact that there are three of them, I don't think they're very remarkable.

Windcatcher: 4/10 - Made for a good plot point and looks nice. Not much else to say about them.

Churro Cookie: 8/10 - I have a bias for forest cookies, and Churro fits well into the headcanons that I already had for Millennial Tree. Churro's misunderstanding of the Tree 'abandoning them' could be used in so many ways and the fact that this fella stood up to a LEGENDARY? And WON? Banger moment. The only reason there's no 10/10 here is that I'm still bitter over Fig Cookie not getting any attention in this update.

Ice Juggler Cookie: 1/10 - The only point here is from the fact that the color palette and food choice is nice and clever respectively. Terrible personality, terrible plotline, decent ability. I would trade this cookie in for someone like Muscle Cookie but that'd be an insult to Muscle.

Banana Cookie: 4/10 - A bit too oblivious, but her colors are nice. It's disappointing how she and Ice Juggler Cookie were a part of one of the most forgettable updates of the year.

Starfruit Cookie: 6/10 - I love her design and her ability to see into the future seeing the stars. It may be an overdone trope, and they missed out on giving her a connection/way to give Moonlight a possible personality... But the design and story of this update really makes up for that missed opportunity!!

Eternal Eye of Darkness: 3/10 - Looks cool. Had no plot relevance and just exists now.

Licorice Cookie: 8/10 - Silly necromancer twig that reminds me of Team Rocket go BRRRR. In all seriousness, I think the Devs did a great job manifesting his Kingdom personality into Ovenbreak.

Bell Pepper Cookie: 5/10 - Genius kid that can't get along with other kids that easily. He would be higher if he didn't bring down the AI Run 2/Field Trip Event so much. I like the relationship he has with Aloe, but it would have been much better if these two shared separate updates. Also, he's just... Hero Cookie but Revamped.

Aloe Cookie: 10/10 - Despite the drama they caused me (and still do), they're one of the best cookies to exist within the Cookie Run Franchise. The mystery surrounding the future (much like Roguefort Cookie's mystery surrounding the past) has me hooked, as well as the entire plotline of the original AI Run. I could not ask for a better cookie.

Butter Pretzel Cookie: 6/10 - I love her shtick of painting with butter, though her personality is a bit of a meh for me. Maybe it's just because I dipped out of interest for this update, but I can't really find myself enjoying her past how she looks.

Almond Cookie: 2/10 - Stop being weird about him I STG. His personality and connection with Walnut is nice, but he really needs to believe in his kid more. Not very appealing aside from the 'not wearing his coat properly' part of his design.

Lilac Cookie: 7/10 - Drama aside, Lilac has been growing on me as of late. I was jealous that he was the one to receive masculine pronouns instead of Aloe (since they were both NPCs that had the chance of appearing), but past that he's honestly very intriguing. The fact that he's supposed to assassinate royalty but doesn't do so due to the connection he has with Yogurt Cream Cookie is a trope that I find compelling.

Scorpion Cookie: 8/10 - A mysterious creature that's very deadly and teases a lot... Matched with a clever design and one of my favorite design quirks of 'barely opens her eyes, but when she does it MEANS SOMETHING IMPORTANT'... I wish she had more development.

Bellflower Cookie: 10/10 - Despite how the plotlines took a downturn due to having to follow Gingerbrave at the time (and being a weird mix of main plot and Guild Adventures), Bellflower is so interesting and beloved to me. Can we talk about how she has to now spread the truth about Lotus Dragon Cookie while living close to them and those that are loyal to them? And has to have some sort of undercover rebellion against a DRAGON? I think we should talk about that more.

Ginseng Cookie: 4/10 - Decent cookie. Not very interesting in terms of ability or plot relevance, but would make for a good father/grandfather figure. Also spawned a funny meme from the official Twitter.

Hydrangea Cookie: 7/10 - Gorgeous design and a wicked personality. As a Pomegranate Cookie Apologist (half-joking), having another priestess that follows an evil higher power but puts up a slow-going and relaxed front is SO GOOD.

Lotus Dragon Cookie: 9/10 - Same as Hydrangea Cookie, but with even more points on the design scale. Their lore and ability to steal life force to 'grant wishes' is SO GOOD.

Sour Belt Cookie: 6/10 - Beloved personality and fitting addition to Dinosour Cookie's family. I'm not that big of a fan of her looks or what she makes in terms of fashion, but she certainly stands out in a good way.

Chocolate BonBon Cookie: 5/10 - Not my style whatsoever, and her obsession with the past should come back to bite her in some way. I don't mean this in a mean way, I mean this as in 'she deserves her own plot outside of the one she was mixed in where the past literally haunts her'.

Amber Sugar Cookie: 9/10 - The only reason why a point is docked is that he caused a small stir due to a mistranslation and also was a part of one of the most grind-y updates to date. I wanna know more about this stunning little bee boy!!

Sugar Glass Cookie: 5/10 - Great design and pretty location (and interesting concept with the shadow selves in the Hard Mode trial), but the personality and relationship with Amber Sugar Cookie just doesn't sit right with me.

Eggnog Cookie: 10/10 - Absolute father figure. Just a warm man with a big heart. He's a goofy lad that I would absolutely accept as the canonical Santa of any universe. There is no weird/mature reason for me liking him as much as I do (like some people), I just genuinely think he's a really good character and want him to hold me.

Tiramisu Cookie: 10/10 - He's a determined lad that wants things done on time and takes things a bit too seriously! His plotline with Eggnog was incredibly engaging, and I can't help but to root for this little guy when he's going along his business on the train!! Also, his relationship with Millennial Tree got a good chuckle out of me

Overall Cookie Rating: 6.5/10

Summary: The beginning of the year was very pleasant until there was a hard drop at the Pudding Cup Circus. The updates made me lose interest until the AI Run 2/Field Trip event came out and it still barely held me there. I only stayed because of Aloe, and even then the drama surrounding them really brought me out of the game, and I kept myself on the sidelines for the updates afterward (I still haven't seen the entirety of Butter Pretzel Cookie and Almond's Plotline despite Roguefort Cookie's involvement it was that strenuous). Surprisingly, Bellflower and the rest of the Lotus-Related update really brought me back and helped me enjoy Ovenbreak again. This year's anniversary was the weakest it had ever been, and I honestly feel like swapping the anniversary update for the Holiday Update would have been so much better.

Regarding the chaos and aftermath of the Verstappen crash at the 2021 British GP

Before I begin, this is solely my own thoughts on the crash and aftermath of it, resources and intel being from various news reports, articles, interviews, social media reactions/on track fans reactions, commentators, careers etc. Also important, this post was made around 11 PM CEST, so other news after that or in the midst of this, I haven’t considered.

  Comments and discussions are welcome, though remember to keep the tone guys. I rarely comment on anything on Tumblr, but looking at this chaos, I felt like sharing a bit.

  Starting on the incident that happened, I don’t believe that I can clearly decide what happened and who caused, and the only comments I have is that I believe it was a racing incident that has no bad intention. We hear in conclusion from sources (there was an after analysis) (e.g. also Lewis’ Sky Sports interview) that both could have given each other space. Lewis trying to get in, and Max defending his position. People who think Lewis did it intentionally clearly have no common sense, no one wants Max to end up going to the hospital (but he is fine so no worries). Of course, nothing excuses that a crash happened, and it’s a big shame.

  All the hate Lewis is getting should tone down, I think it’s fair to be critical in perspective of racing which consists of the crash and his comments regarding it, but anything that comments on something other than that with negativity, shouldn’t be.

  Something that many F1 fans have brought up and Horner I believe (slightly) is Lewis 15+ years of experience in Formula one and numerous of championships. Which I think in any sport or topic isn’t a fair argument, because mistakes happen to anyone, no one is immune to that, though this is not me calling the crash a mistake, because I don’t believe that is the right word. It’s more Lewis knowing the danger of closing in and Max of course defending himself on track, and this is the end result. And if anyone was a viewer of the Euro 2020 Football Cup Finals, it’s a bit like the Southgate criticism on the penalties.

  This also applies to all the fans who bring up Max’ aggressive and old nickname “crashstappen” from his early F1 career. Whether you have your impression from Netflix’ Drive to Survive or the fact that you’re new, anyone will agree that Max has matured greatly both on and off track, in my opinion one of the calmest drivers on the grid considering the amount of criticism, hate and burden that he gets/has. The fact is that there have been some people on Twitter (when I now and later comment on fans and reactions, it’s usually the very chaotic Twitter), that mentions Verstappen’s past, the infamous Baku and this season’s races where Lewis is the one who, in their words, “has backed up and gave space” (the reason I say their words is because I can’t quite remember so I won’t say that I know for sure). But again, as I mentioned, this is not valid, because it doesn’t excuse what happened today. Every track is a title fight, and previous races and tactics doesn’t apply to this. What I mean is that because Lewis gave space previous races, does it mean that Verstappen should crash? Or worded differently, because Max didn’t give space like he has previous times, that “it was coming” or that he should crash? Biggest takeaway from this is that past and future shouldn’t mean more than what happened in the present. This leading me on to a bit of the hate Max got which I think was quite undeserving, especially under his circumstances, which is f1 fans (mostly Twitter) calling it “karma” and using his young past to somehow “justify” the crash.

Also I really disliked the videos of “British fans” (we can’t actually determine that all were British, but it was home track) cheering when the crash happened, but in general I think cheering on a crash will always be awful even if you’re favourite driver gains position. Gladly though, it quickly died down on the stands as they realized it was hard impact. Very Euro 2020 vibes, though a much better English crowd- Just kidding, maybe you can see I’m not happy when any kind of fans act out of order (also I don’t hate English football fans, but sadly, the ones who make stupid actions overshadow the rest).

  Now I also want to comment a bit on the drivers and teams’ comments and the PR.

  So regarding Max’ social media post about the race. I honestly think it’s fair for him to be upset, no one wants to be taken out on the first lap considering that he is leading while a VERY good and competitive Lewis is trailing behind. My first reaction was that it was quite an aggressive post and the part about him unfollowing Lewis (if that is correct, I haven’t seen it myself yet) was obviously implying that he isn’t happy. Though, emotions run high as well does Lewis’ celebration reaction. I know his mind is to win on track and he has always been outspoken about that fact. Also I don’t quite believe that Max’ comments were full heartedly himself, but the PR team considering he’s just been at the hospital. I’m not happy with his post at all, but I understand both from a PR perspective and a driver’s. I believe almost any driver on the track would have said something like that in an interview if it happened to them. This just happened to be online because of health circumstances.

  Regarding Marko and Horner, I must disagree with their aggressiveness or at least the way they decide to comment on it. I do understand the anger, considering the championship but also concern for Max (anyone who knows their relationship knows that they care about him.) Again, I have to say emotions run high and if anything, managers are good at, and this is not specifically only attacking Horner, but it’s stirring up tension. I would say it’s fair for him to say, and quite expected, not saying I think it’s fair for Lewis to receive though (hopefully you get what I mean).

  Commenting a bit on Lewis’ Sky Sports F1 interview, we can confirm he didn’t know about Max going to the hospital before celebrating. Anyone who wins has the right to celebrate, especially at home, so props for his win, though unfortunately through a crash (this meaning Verstappen was his biggest threat on track). Though I wasn’t pleased about the commenting on Max. This leads further into the interview.

  We get Lewis’ insight on the incident and where he sees Max as the aggressive one, both not giving each other space and having the crash as end result. So in conclusion, Max trying to defend his position and Lewis trying to get in, fair. Please watch the interview, because it clears up a lot of what is spoken about in the media.  

My thoughts on Lewis’ response both before and after hearing about Max going to the hospital in the Sky Sports interview, is that he probably could’ve/should’ve toned down on Max being the aggressor, as they were both considering what the crash led to, and him saying that it was just about who was going to give space until it was too late. It kind of goes against what he just said. But I do agree that Lewis has the right to celebrate because he simply won. I also liked that he had championship spirit saying that considering what happened, it didn’t take the shine away from his win. It may sound disrespectful, and I do still kind of think it is, but on the other side, it’s him being competitive, and both drivers have each other’s respect on being able to fight on track. So he’s got the spirit, just maybe not the right interview to show the most competitive spirit (I think the most competitive spirit/response he’s shown this 2021 season)

  A bit more on his spirit and fighting on track is seen from Lawrence Barreto who tells us that Lewis has the “game on” spirit and is ready for attacks on track but there needs to be respect on track “and if not this will happen more often I guess.” - Lewis. Just a bit more closure from another source, I like that he is more responsive, but this does make it sound like he blames Max for it. I think any driver who are up against each other have the right or it makes sense to give the majority of the blame to the other, they have their own rear mirrors (see it from their own perspective when they drive, quite literally), but it isn’t the best comment to be honest. Since he says himself, both could’ve given space.

  My biggest disagreement that I must mention is the penalty Lewis got, which was the 10 second penalty. Assessing the severity of the crash with high speed, 51G impact, first lap etc. I think the penalty didn’t really serve much of a penalty, but this is also me being critical of the penalty system. These 10 second penalties don’t really make you lose that much of position (depends on car), also this is not a blow at Lewis but just the system. Afterwards, he was also given 2 penalty points. I think compared to someone like Yuki who also got 2 penalty points for crossing the white line twice while entering the pits and George yesterday at the Sprint Race (1 penalty point + 3 place grid penalty) are quite different but looking at the number, there isn’t a big difference in what’s given. But all of this penalty talk is on the stewards and system, so nothing against Lewis and he did take his penalty that was given.

  I did not comment much on the actual incident as I have a hard time really deciding (I can admit I see Lewis unintentionally drift a bit in + this being a very fast turn, I believe just a misjudgment but so many fans think it was intentional), so therefore do read and watch the current and coming interviews and articles to get some racing perspective. It keeps updating and even drivers like Riccardo, Leclerc, Alonso etc. have given their comments, and who better to listen to than professionals themselves. So I encourage you to get perspective there, because I know not all of us are the most technical fans, and we tend to comment by being led through a bias and crowd.

  But if we’re feeling a bit tired from today, so far the drivers are leaning towards a racing incident. They speak of it as quite unclear to determine, basically saying that both drivers could’ve done and were doing something --> could’ve given space.

  We all have to remember this situation is a big deal since it’s the only two to be fair at the moment, who are competing for the championship. Both mad talented and on each other every track. Media blows it out more than them and before we know it, they’re back to what they do best, which is drive.

  Heart goes out to Max, it was quite an impact and if not his worst crash so far in his career. His team radio was quite scary to listen to, I’ve never heard him so shook, but he is doing quite fine at the moment, and he will hopefully recover well enough for the next race.

  As well for Lewis, emotions are running high and people are quick to assume and accuse without using common sense that Lewis wouldn’t endanger Max or himself. He has every right to celebrate a win and props for him winning.

  In conclusion to those who has taken the time to read, don’t let my thoughts be any decider, but more so a way to understand and be a bit more open minded. We are all subjective in the end and I try to see from both perspectives and to be critical as well, not being led by others’ opinions. I’ve stated my sources, and this is only my overall thoughts at the very moment, so remember, as drivers evolve and move on, we do too.

  I again encourage you to watch and research with an open mind so not being led on bias, especially if you’re willing to spread anything on the topic. It serves a greater outcome than sprouting from emotions and lack of information, as we have well seen from this sport. Because media does influence and we as an audience is a part of it. So I must remind again, that this is simply my thoughts.

re: lia thomas, it's possible you've seen this and it hasn't altered your opinion (which is fine, i think it's a complicated question), but fwiw this article changed my thinking on that particular case and i've come to think that the topline reporting of it is driven more by bias than by a rational assessment of the situation; in particular it shifted my thinking to learn that (1) on the same day that she won the race getting so much attention, she lost a whole bunch of other races, and (2) [especially this one] the mediocre previous performance i'd seen attributed to her was in her last year of competing on the men's team *after* being on HRT for a year already, and that before she started HRT she was in fact a talented and competitive male swimmer, and her current standing compared cis women swimmers seems pretty in line with where she might have expected to wind up at this time in men's swimming if she hadn't started HRT. that seems fair to me, especially since, again, it's just demonstrably not the case that no cis woman could hope to compete with her, since a bunch of them beat her. again, i do think it's complicated and am still puzzling it over myself, so i am not trying to talk you into agreeing with me. but this was a situation where reading more about it really pretty completely shifted how i'd been feeling about it and i feel like the information that got me there has really not gotten enough attention. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/lia-thomas-trans-swimmer-data-b2044949.html?amp

Well my first point is that elite athletes don't compete at the same level each time so Lia Thomas doing badly in one race doesn't really mean anything one way or another, it's about general trends. Look at it like this: in one competition, Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps swam the same time for the same race but it was one of Ledecky's best times ever since it was a final for her, and she won the race, and it was one of Phelps' worst times since it was a non-ranked heat for the men and he wasn't ranked anywhere near the top.

It's also not about some cis women being able to beat Thomas either, because of course some women are better than some men, like Serena Williams can beat a high school tennis player and she might be able to beat like Andy Murray 1-1 since she really was that amazing, but there's a reason that the women's professional tennis game is 3 sets while the men's is 5. While some women can play for 5 sets, it's been discerned that the average professional women's tennis player doesn't have the endurance of a man of the same calibre, and they're some of the most physically fit people on the planet.

Also, Lia wasn't ranking in the top 16 for men before she started HRT in the men's competition; by all reports she was an average swimmer that wasn't making it anywhere near the podium, and now she's winning women's competitions so ... yeah. We can talk all we want about how taking HRT and estrogen affects people's athletic performances but the reality is that when people transition after puberty, trans women don't end up with the same level of estrogen as cis women, and that absolutely impacts athletic performance and strength.

A/N: it’s opening day for football and I was inspired😂

“I know damn well you are not shit talking right now” Your eyes were wide and jaw slacked as you stared at your boyfriend. “Oh I am fuckin shit talking right now babe. Your team sucks. Just accept it”. Football was never a sport that you both could just calmly watch together, You and Chris were far to competitive for that. Especially with the intense loyalty you both had to your home teams the Patriots and the Y/H/T.

It was so bad that even your respective families forbade you from watching any football game where your home teams were playing against each other. “Oh I’m sorry but I distinctly remember my team kicking your teams ass in the Super Bowl-“ Chris shouted so loud you could swear the whole neighborhood heard him “That was years ago! Let it go!” You giggled “never, because butter fingers Brady dropped the ball and we rightfully won-“ you smirked and turned your attention back to the game and mumbled “Mother fucker cheats anyway”.

Chris heard you and you felt his blue eyes burning into your skull, you turned to look at him and you were met with the most offended expression “that’s not true and you know it. You’re just mad that we’ve won more super bowls than any NFL team!“ you smirked. It wasn’t often that you pressed his buttons but in the moments you were in the mood, you enjoyed the hell out of it and today was one of those moments so you decided to take it further “because they cheat Chris. That’s not very fair to the other teams now is it? I mean there was the practice recording incident, deflate gate, bias refs, I mean the list goes on.”

You tried your hardest to not laugh, especially because his cheeks started turning red and you knew you had him. Hook, line and sinker. “Why do you do this?” You giggled “Because it’s fun”. Chris took a breath and shook his head “I’m only in town for a few more days and you really want to spend it busting my balls?” “It wasn’t my idea to watch football Christopher” sass noted. “Besides, didn’t you tell me that you liked it when girls gave you a hard time?”

This time is was his turn to smirk and you saw the mischievous glint in his eyes. “I like that you give me a hard time and for the record, I just wanted to spend time with my girlfriend, you’re the one who put the game on”. leave c!phil out of bullshit 2k21 -- a not so tiny post by a new enthusiast

As someone who finds both common fanon and actual canon to be quite fun, I really think the general DSMP fandom would benefit greatly from a few things in general: the greatest, in my opinion, is learning to accept that popular fanon won’t usually be the canon you receive. Another, of course, is that POVs are golden, but with these two things being flimsy in being accepted, they are the major flaws that cause about 90% of the absolute messy takes that gain traction, oftentimes poisoning a canon character's ability to exist in the story.

My biggest beef regarding this comes from how y’all treat c!Phil, so here I am, being annoying on main side! 

TL;DR... Just because someone acted like like a guidance to others, doesn’t always mean that they'll want to be the father figure role for everyone that breathes. Similarly, pinning down a character on a single trope is wack, so don't be surprised if they grow away from it.

The Dream SMP plotline is not written out like most popular media. With so many moving parts in the form of daily streams and the wonderful tool of live improvisation, it makes perfect sense that such a giant cast would not always be on the same page. Adding onto that, it also makes more sense that a vast majority of the cast will be placed into supporting roles, as the story needs to have characters that serve as narrative anchors and others that function as the links in a chain, all weathering the storm that is the plot.

Screentime, of course, plays a major factor into canon exposure -- in terms of the Dream SMP, POV matters equally, if not more, too. 

It’s a pretty neat way of showing things, but in the end, the fanbase has a lovely (read: godawful /lh) way of analysing characters, particularly when it relates to how they interact with others from their fave character’s POV. The tendency to analyse things from a single character's POV is fine, but not when attempting to critique the greater whole of a conflict. Both sides, no matter how wrong they may seem to be, matter.

Adding onto the fact that everything is live, there are things that will spiral out of control, casual words being skewed and thus having the potential of a single line seemingly contradicting the entire ‘story’ that the fanbase has made. If it directly affects a fave's POV in particular, one is more likely to take offense, as bias immediately bars one from trying to see the other person's side of things.

POV is important. 

Which brings me to c!Phil, and how critics tend to ignore his perspective to prop up another character, or justify the tearing down of another.

Improvisation is both a blessing and a curse; the fanbase, however, loves to test out the latter. With it, the fanbase starts crafting tales to justify it...And so begins the mess that is c!Phil discourse.

Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is not supposed to be your fave’s fluffy father figure... unless you’re c!Wilbur!!!

Family dynamics are generally loved for their potential for comfort, particularly those of a found family nature. Fandom in general tends to lean into them wholeheartedly, with most major bases having at least one prominent group present; SBI, of course, is no different. From fanart to popular fanfiction, it's arguably the biggest group dynamic alongside the Dream Team, and for that, a precedence was set. 

c!Phil, if he ever joined, would fix everything! All of the ‘kids’ would turn to their new mentor and everything would turn out fine! This all knowing, morally just character will chuckle at their antics and wacky hijinks will follow! Fun times, right? /s

The hope for it, however, has long since been shattered, and frankly, good for him!

To go a little ooc, cc!Phil has stated multiple times that, while he was friendly with a lot of the cast as c!Phil, his only paternal link (at least biologically) lies with c!Wilbur. Simple, right? It should be -- there are multiple clips of him saying this -- but fans choose to ignore it in their critiques, generally citing favouritism or downright neglect for the character’s flaws. From 'favoring' Techno (who, in canon, holds the highest link in friendship outside of c!Wilbur's familal link) to 'neglecting' to visit Tommy (who he barely knew, and also assumed, like many others, that he was fine), these critiques weigh heavily on the scale that judges Phil’s so called father figure trope. 

The story, however, has only leaned into (and persisted with) that for c!Wilbur alone, and adding onto it, there is an established acknowledgement from both ccs. That confirmation should hold the most weight, especially since both Phil and Wilbur seem alright with it. Even so, that familial has yet to be explored much for both characters, particularly regarding c!Phil, who has his debut (at least narratively) in a scene that feels opposite to the classic fatherly role.

c!Wilbur denounced accepting that helping hand to fall entirely into his explosive end, setting a precedence unlike most fatherly types arriving to save their kid. Usually, fandom narrative would love a close save, father and son uniting to heal and build up what was broken, but c!Phil’s entrance inks his story in failure. Angsty, right? We love angst!

And yet, as the story ticks on, the bad takes pile up.

Why? Well, I’l used to think that it is a “funny haha” type thing; a way to grieve for a character that was lost, as Alivebur was genuinely a great character. However, with the plot slowly progressing c!Phil’s story to evolve away from the ‘mentor the kids’ trope , I should have seen a storm on the horizon.

It should have been seen from the moment he stabbed c!Wilbur in the chest, but optimism is one hell of a smokescreen.

Built up fanon, however, is probably the greatest fog to ever exist.

There are lines before the button room confrontation that paint a picture of Wilbur seeking out the approval of his father (who seemed distant, at least from his POV), as well as hints to the SBI dynamic, but with the countless dismissals/retcons from CCs involved, as well as little to no consistent canon acknowledgement of this team dad role...Why base an entire hate piece of c!Phil just because popular fanon isn’t real? 

Why, for the sake of building up a well rounded character, would one place the title of a communal parental figure on a grieving father who has little attachment to the community involved, especially when most of them are too busy delving into their own issues?

It’s madness, luv, and frankly, antis cannot let c!Phil process any of his grief (or flesh out his character) without his contributions being fatherly. His role has been idealized to the point where he is not a character on his own, but an accessory to the happiness of other characters. That is not how the world works, and in a conflict riddled server like the dsmp, arguing that it should be like that is counterproductive.

c!Phil had his own shit to deal with, and as he slowly uncovers how fucked up the server actually was, he merely adapts to it. He learns to play the game by his own rules, and people become mad that he’s succeeding in his own way. It's as simple as that, particularly when referencing his initial exposure to the world he now inhabits.

c!Phil is a man who used to hear of his son’s success from the letters he received, words spinning tales of won revolutions and newfound friendships. To a father, those letters are more than enough to assume that all is well, and with it, he had no reason to check on his son, who was already old enough to be carving his path alone. For him to arrive and see just how broken his son actually was, and then, in front of faces he only vaguely knows, kill said son... There's a lot to take in.

He shouldn't have had to care about L'Manberg in those moments, not when he had his son in his arms, dead by his own goddamn weapon; his son who, to his knowledge, was doing pretty well up until he caught wind of his plot. Yet, he does.

He gives them the benefIt of the doubt, even ignoring the one person he has shown to have deep history with (c!Techno) to assist the nation in defeating the withers and rebuilding what was lost.

c!Phil stays in a nation that has seemingly brought his son right into his demise, holding in that grief to help people who he assumes have the chance to rebuild, to reform. For a moment, he trusts that the system can turn into something positive, offering to hunker down and do what he can to help. That’s the start of a fatherly type role for most -- with many expectations rising from fans to ‘fix’ all these traumatized characters.

In another plot, perhaps critics could have gotten the tropes they want from c!Phil, but to blame the character for reacting negatively to a world he barely knew, right after seeing it ruin his son and target a friend...Maybe the need for a "father figure" only stems from making their faves happy.

Characters that don't directly support your fave are not inherently awful characters. Critique based on that alone is...flimsy, really, but honestly, you can use to to show how they process things.

Which brings me to the events leading up to Doomsday, and with it, the steady rise of c!Phil’s defining traits.

Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is one of the most loyal members on the server, but loyalty doesn’t mean he's blindly following along!

The butcher army arc, while nestled among the mainline story of Tommy’s exile (which I will not even mention, because those dadza takes about visiting may deserve a post on their own), allows for c!Phil to see into the minds of those who had once been with (or even against) his son’s plans. Sure, he may be witnessing them after the eve of their newfound traumas, but this is an important observation to make when comparing how easy it was to denounce his affiliation to them and side with c!Technoblade.

Unlike the new Administration, slowly dipping deeper and deeper into their own form of power hunger, c!Technoblade’s base desires had never wavered. His trust in others, however, had, still nursing the sting of a betrayal, but with no conflict in sight. He is reforming, finding comfort in his solitude, and still maintaining contact with those he trusts.

Techno's Compass, for one, is a major example of their mutual trust. Despite being on opposing territories, they are civil enough to trust each other, just like old friends.

Thus, when you take two old friends who are more than used to conflict -- one grieving and one betrayed, but both seeking neutrality -- it shouldn’t have surprised the antis that c!Phil would place c!Techno’s whereabouts (and life, mind you) over some government he barely knew. 

And yet, above all else, c!Phil starts off as a neutral party for everyone's sake, forgoing potential conquest for peace.

To c!Phil and c!Techno, it’s like fighting back to back, knowing that one can always trust the other to fend off those just waiting to take advantage of your blindspot, while also quelling the need to imagine your partner turning around and doing the same. That sort of friendship is forged through many, many hardships.

They betray what little trust he had built in them. That’s on them.

c!Phil is aware how untrusting c!Techno is, and while c!Techno feels safe enough to give his all for c!Phil, he never exploits it to get ahead, which is something L'Manbergians felt okay with doing.

They take a book out of the playbook used on c!Techno, for c!Techno.

They went after yet another person who was close to him, using their power and influence to hold an execution under the guise of seeking justice. If c!Wilbur, at least pre-corruption arc, sent letters to his father, one would at least expect some of his old ideals of freedom and fairness to leak through into his friends, right? To see those c!Phil assumed would hold similar ideals immediately skew towards a darker, brutal side, particularly in threatening others to get what they wanted...Well, shit hit the fan.

c!Phil does not have that strong relationship with any former L’Manbergians, and despite there being potential for such, it didn't work out that way; instead, however, those characters manage to mistake his kindness for weakness. They take his preferred neutrality as a way to exploit him, to gain in such a way that he lost agency...

No more Mister Nice Dadza, and honestly, he’s justified in that notion.

They’ve lost his trust, time too short to have gained that strong link like c!Techno’s or c!Wilbur’s, and with it, came the inevitable association with Doomsday.

c!Phil knew c!Techno’s intentions from the beginning -- which had only wavered into dormancy because he had grown tired of fighting, understanding that the cycle he wishes to break is not worth his efforts -- so the agreement in participating is effortless. 

c!Dream was there too, of course, but in their mutual quest for eradication, it’s made canon that c!Techno and c!Phil hid away most of their arsenal, despite seeming overprepared. They have no loyalty to c!Dream; they’re smart enough to play along, however. He was a means to an end.

There’s no lies present in their relationship; c!Phil needed someone who didn’t try and pull wool over his eyes, and c!Techno let him see.

c!Techno needed someone who wouldn't stab him in the back, and c!Phil stayed true as his hidden sword.

Which is why, as the two joined forces, ideals aligning and power synergized, they didn’t think twice about nuking the nation to bedrock. Mutually agreeing that the system needs to die, they did what they could, and they succeeded.

How cool of them, tbh LMAO.

New L’Manberg tugged too hard at the sleeping tiger’s tail; they shouldn’t have expected it to roll over.

Their openness to each other was known.

There was no need for underhanded plays, for hidden betrayals, for undisclosed words.

Their loyalties were strong.

They were in sync.

In conclusion (maybe, maybe not...this shit is long holy heck)

And that’s what makes c!Phil an interesting character: He tends to be critiqued in reference to chatacters who have very well wronged him, have no affiliation to him or get associated to him through popular fanon. There's a lot to cover that I haven't (from Ghostbur to the whole Tommy 'dilemna') but overall I'm digging what I have now and if I ever get more energy, I'll continue!

I mean to be fair, CFVY drew a short straw getting matched up against Mercury and Emerald in the Vytal festival. Considering Merc was even stronger than Pyrrha or Yang at the time (only lost to them because he threw), he and Em would probably have stomped SSSN just as hard if they were matched up.

Not saying it makes the "leech" comments justified but still.

So, there are a few points to make here.

1. Unlike the real life audience, Coco had no knowledge of Emerald and Mercury being more skilled than your average Hunter student. All she knew was that she and Yatsuhashi got trounced in their 2 vs 2 battle, and Sun went on to be a finalist despite the fact that he's not even an upperclassmen like Coco. She doesn't know anything about whether or not she was fighting kids of generally higher caliber than strictly average students, all she knows is that she and Yatsuhashi did lose, and fairly easily, and Sun and Neptune did not lose. This is what I mean when I say the way she talks is unfounded. We might look at this and say 'well we know Emerald and Mercury are better than most' but she doesn't know that.

2. It's really hard to gauge power levels anywhere past season two due to the combat going down in quality consistently, even though volume three is a little better than the fighting with the Maya models. But, we can still look at Coco, who had a volume 2 moment and seems to have a lot of power, but very limited mobility, and Sun, who is more mobile and less straightforward and can go head to head with Torchwick (who seems all in all to be a very strong, fast, and skilled fighter despite losing to Blake fairly easily in volume 2,) and fight Adam with Blake when he's been portrayed as over the top powerful. And we can see that at the very least, they're on a similar level, and Coco is an upperclassmen. We can maybe chalk the differences up to struggling animation or bad fight choreography choices (like having Coco slowly walk up to Grimm who wait and let her talk to them before she uses her clunky purse gun to smack it,) but just from a non-professional outsider looking at the way the two of them fight, I think Sun is at the very least 'up to par,' so if the book doesn't have Coco acknowledging that she was wrong about Sun, we can pretty easily assume it's a case of author bias. There's no reason we as an audience should be expected to believe Coco is better than Sun in terms of combat, because it's not something we've seen in the show proper.

But 3. There is a pretty good reason to believe Sun and Neptune could hold their own with Emerald and Mercury better than Coco and Yatsu could, and that's that Cinder was literally rigging the fights via making sure the right people got paired up in fights. They needed Merc to go on to the 1 vs 1 fights, they needed him and Emerald to win their 2 vs 2, and this was back when Cinder was calculating and careful. It makes total sense to think they picked people they knew they could beat. And there's kinda good reason for them to have not picked Sun and Neptune to go against. Firstly, Coco and Yatsuhashi both seem to be power driven, less mobile fighters, which gives Mercury and Emerald two advantages. The fact that Mercury is mobile, incredibly fast, and very strong, and the fact that Emerald is better able to lasso a stationary fighter and pull them into the trees to get them separate from their partner better than she could with an opponent that moves around a lot. There's also Sun's light clones to worry about that could theoretically make it easier to gang up on Mercury and lock him into place and he is also very fast with a ranged, less clunky weapon so could keep with Merc and his fighting style. Plus, Sun is a climber and a Faunus with heightened eyesight, who could better find and fight Emerald when she's hiding in the trees, and though her semblance could probably rattle anyone, I did note in my post that Sun doesn't blanche at much or get scared very easily. That's not to say he wouldn't get scared if he started hallucinating, but they might have heard about his daring, devil-may-care attitude from Torchwick and just wanted to be safe and steer away from that. On top of that, Neptune is a character we don't really see try in a fight with people, but he has an electric weapon and a water based semblance, both things that could have very bad results for Mercury. Neptune's biggest weakness and presumably the reason he and Sun didn't win their 4 vs 4 faster is that he's afraid of water due to not being able to control his semblance, but Merc and Em wouldn't be able to use that against him without having Mercury also have to avoid any water, and if Neptune's semblance did trigger, that could've wiped Merc out of the round (assuming his prosthetics aren't water proof.) But even if water didn't factor in at all, one hit from Neptune's trident might make Mercury's prosthetics less functional anyway.

This isn't to say that Yatsuhashi and Coco didn't get a short straw, because in a fair tournament, opponents wouldn't have the chance to make sure they're paired with people who have skill sets that don't work well against their own. But I do think that based on what we know of Sun and Coco, and based on how we know Cinder was rigging things, I don't think Sun and Neptune would've been beaten just as easily. They may not have won, but I don't think they would have been beaten as easily.

But, that's not really the point. Because like I said, Coco doesn't know any of that. She just was judging a lowerclassmen who got further in the tournament than her despite not knowing him at all and mocking him for needing help in a three against one fight, despite having failed plenty herself and despite losing fights especially when you're outnumbered being super common in the show proper. She was just being petty and rude. And you're right that her assuming he was a 'leech' was pretty out of line. She clearly never bothered to think that maybe Sun was friends with Team RWBY and was helping them because they were friends and Sun wanted to be there for them. It's more completely unfounded presumptions on her part, and like I said, it feels to me like she's more threatened by Sun than she wants to admit, and is just finding excuses to think badly of him.

But, here's hoping Coco stops being that way soon and we get development and she admits she's wrong about Sun.

You've explained that at work your response to negative people is to ignore them and focus on the job. Outside of work, is your response any different? Do you ever feel pulled towards the "younger you" dealing with some asshole on the streets? Or do you still mostly ignore people/not deal with it (as much) due to living in a better environment?

To be clear, my reaction to shitty situations and awful people is determined mainly by impact. It’s not decided by my age, feelings, pride, peer pressure, etc.-- it really comes down to how their words and actions affect my life, my goals, and my loved ones. If there’s no impact to my life, my goals, and my loved ones, then I don’t respond. If there’s a huge impact to my life, my goals, and my loved ones, then I respond strongly.

For example, I was born poor and raised in a rough and gang-infested neighborhood in Los Angeles. If someone disrespected me there, we had to fight (physically fight, not this online back and forth we have today). If I didn’t fight, I’d be seen as weak and the problems would get worse. I could be jumped on my way to school, get my belongings stolen, get my home vandalized, etc. My life (personal relationships, mental health, physical health), goals (career, net worth) and loved ones (brother, mother, etc.) are affected so it required a strong response. After I fought and won, I earned respect, but also peace and quiet-- I was rarely bothered again.

Now let’s take another example, let’s say a bunch of Tumblr users decided to run a “WE HATE MR. ENTJ” campaign and spammed my inbox with insults. Would that be disrespectful? Yes. But is it impactful? No, it’s not. My life (personal relationships, mental health, physical health), goals (career, net worth) and loved ones (wife, brother, cute puppy) are completely unaffected so it requires no response. In all my years on Tumblr, I’ve never responded to a single crazy person that came at me on this platform and I’m so confident of this fact that if anyone can find evidence of me doing otherwise I’ll reward you with $1,000. 

Both situations are disrespectful, but only the first one requires a strong response.

To your question: I ignore negative people at work not because their behavior doesn’t piss me off-- it absolutely does-- but because their behavior doesn’t impact my career. If their behavior did impact my career, then I’d definitely confront them, but firing me would be like firing Michael Jordan from your basketball team so I’m largely immune to fuckery. My career is red hot and I can achieve my goals much faster by ignoring these people rather than focusing on them. If I were somehow theoretically fired due to internal politics, I’d just move on to a better role for even more money since I have a line of suitors from top companies or I could take another sabbatical with my IPO money or retire or do whatever I wanted. There’s very little impact either way. The same applies to outside of work if I ran into an asshole on the streets. What’s the impact of the person’s actions? If no impact, then no response. If strong impact, then strong response. 

I always have been and always will be a highly confrontational person with a bias for resolving problems that negatively impact my life as quickly and effectively as possible, but my problems have changed so the solutions have had to change with them. The types of things that impacted me before don’t impact me very much today, if at all, and so they usually don’t require a response.
